Step 4: Find out that the enemy knows how to fight in an actual jet and get dunked on by much faster fighters.

Thank you again for attempting to shove actual logic inside the brains of Phantom teams. I asked a team one day why they weren't climbing and they said "Climbing isn't necessary for TT because your so fast. I think you're still stuck in Rank 3 bud"
To that, I simply replied "Seems someone's still stuck in Pre-1.85"
They all died within 3 minutes and those of us that climbed clutched the match

Climbing didn't matter in subsonics because the sound barrier destroyed your energy if you tried to harness altitude by diving.
But in supersonics, the sound barrier doesn't exist. Sounds like they were still stuck in a 9.0 mindset.

These videos are great thanks! Subscribed just because you are the only youtuber ive seen that explains his thought process while playing. Been flyin planes for almost a year in WT and im alright but nothing special. Hearing what someone is thinking and why in a game is so much more helpful to me than videos of people going "climb to win then use missles"

Thank you Spit! I'm not far off of my Hunter, and have been wanting to learn how to dogfight properly in higher tier, less maneuverable jets, and you've given me some useful info to take with me into 9.0 and above!
Step 1: Get the MiG-21bis. Better acceleration, better missiles, better maneuverability. When I fly the F-4E I rarely see enemies at a high enough altitude for the Sparrows. Can't boom and zoom because MiG-21s just snap around and fire off an R-60 that usually ignores flares even if you cut the afterburner, or they start chasing you and out accelerate you.
Sidewinders are way better dude, they ignore a track like a dream

You can tell Spitflyer is happy when he says molto bene. Reminded me of my Italian classes at school (oh so many years ago). Very good video, very informative and fun to watch. Nice tactics table background too.
Yes, in jet games, energy is king. Speed is life, altitude is life insurance. But you know what? Pilot awareness is also very important. Jet games can be over in 6 or 8 minutes, even at 7.7ish BRs. Sometimes, when the fight happens, it happens fast. Sometimes, the first you know you have someone on your 6 is when your wing is blasted off. It is imperative to keep an eye out for threats. Knowing when to flick the tail out with a hard rudder kick, so you go into a tight roll, can save yourself from a volley of gunfire.
You need to know what your plane is capable of, so you don't get in a pickle, and if you do you know how to get out of the pickle. Therefore, you need to know what your enemies' planes can do. With that, you can pull off some cheeky things like vertical turn fighting a Mig-15 in a Sea Meteor F.3 (and I won).
I am very glad to see some f-100 in this video. It is one of my favorite planes and I am very close to getting it. See you next time!

Btw. your radar shows you if you have a firing solution for the aim-7. When you select them and have a target acuired two lines appear on your radar and the missile wil reach it, as long as it appears between the lines and continues on it's path.

I feel like you posting a video including how to dogfight in a javelin is a jab at my "abilities" in jets after I unlocked that thing at midnight last night. In all seriousness though, thanks!
I feel like I need to add on to your comment about climbing that it's pretty much necessary in most low tier British jets. Meteors need to be able to pick and choose their engagements in the current matchmaking, and the Swift F1 absolutely EXCELS by zoom climbing to 5-6km, picking targets and diving. You get to choose a preferable engagement and if it doesn't work out you have the energy to zoom climb back up to altitude and repeat, both in the meteors and the swift. You can go as fast as 1100kph at the bottom of your dive in a swift f1 and as long as you're careful you won't rip. Do a pass and then zoom climb back up to 5km, rinse repeat. Staying at altitude also massively lowers your fuel consumption, so you can make that 7 minutes of fuel count even if you always sit on 100% throttle. Minimise time at low altitude and maximise time at high altitude where you can pick engagements and where you have time and space to consider your next move.

how to dogfight in jets TL;DR version
1. pick MiG-21bis
2. get ace crew
3. fly low towards the area where F-4's climb (you can easily see them from below but they can't see you)
4. do 6km vertical climb with your infinite energy retention behind them
5. shoot down 6 or them with R-60 before they see you
6. go back to base and wait for the game to end
Another fairly basic thing to master is maneuvering after the over shoot. Let's say u are flying up on somebody that is lower and significantly slower. U close the gap to fast to get a good shot or lock on. Using your speed to your advantage to stay behind them. For instance barrel rolling over the top of them to stay behind them. U will be surprised how many people think two dimensionally in a three dimension world.

Two things, like Spit flyer said, u want to target the guy that doesn't know u are there, they are the easiest kills. However, on the flip side u don't want to be that guy! Tunnel vision can be a real problem. Don't overly fixate on any one person. Always keep your head on a swivel!!! The faster the planes the less the reaction time.

What if you make a cut at the first Supersonic Jets and put them Br 1.0 in a NEW tech tree for only Supersonic Jets and the late ones got to Br 5.0 or whatever and like do that for props aswell. What do you think about this Idea?

Thansk for the useful video spit, im sure itll help a lot! A question i have though that i just cant figure out, is as follows:
Flying my fg1 and also the lightning, a lot of the time i find that im the last one left on my team, as i try to get reeal fast and high to actually at least survive the initial contact, and to TRY and use the aim 7's.. but once up there and fast,everyone seems to be down on the deck and wont climb up, leaving me with only 2 choices every time:one, is to remain high and fast, burning fuel and hoping we just lose tickets and i survive the game to not lose another 10k repair costs... this almost never happens though.... the other, is to dive down low and try to use the aim 9's, but the sheer speed i come down at a lot of the time means even closing throttle and using airbrakes can result in wingrip if your target suddenly turns and you have to adjust slightly to fire fox2, and once you've done that first pass, even if you connect and get the kill, usually 2 more mig 21 bis are circling to lock onto me... as you say with the phantom its TERRIBLE for defensive flying, keeping your speed and zooming seems to just end in a r60 up the tailpipe even spamming flares, and any turn you do is just gonna result in death... ive played so many hours now trying to figure out a plan to actually succeed at this tier, but everything i try results in what ive just described and i feel like ive hit a brick wall,is there anything else i can try to do?

F4 match you had is like 1 in 1000, what usually happens
A: You dodge a headon, the enemy mig flies away, you see another 2 migs pop up from infront before you even know it a WILD MIG-21BIS has apeared and already launched his 3/4 missles at 3 diffrent planes, usually resulting in 2 kills.
B: you get your kill or 2 and then find out that the 10 migs have killed off your team and are on your 6 spamming missles, in which case best you can do is just slow down and finish the match faster
On the F4E gameplay... you were seal clubbing Mig-19. I'd say even if you don't play your cards right, you'd dominate when the enemy team isn't full of Mig21's carrying R60s :P

@@Spitflyer Oh yes I have seen them. Didn't mean to imply that F4E or you aren't capable in a proper top tier match. Just that, team composition dictates how well you do at top tier more. If you end up with fewer F4Es and EJs then you will have a hard time carrying against Mig21 MFs and bis.
Best moment I've seen in WarThunder ever, I was smoking my first doobie in a while and it hit at around 13:09, I mean I would have wasted 3 missiles and hit a mountain like a complete idiot, I just had to go back and see it again, it's like a beautiful dance in the sky bro.

My biggest issue with top tier jets is radar just not working and missiles just refusing to lock under any circumstance. I don't know why radar is so buggy but it just is for some reason and makes sparrows nearly impossible to use :(

At that br there are not much missiles, so you only need to watch the enemy radar to see if someone wants to brrrt you. Honestly i think bottom tier and top tier are not so different apart from avionics

personally i like it at 10.0 more than i did at 9.7 just because of those different types of fights. But now you also have to contend with radar guided and things being a LOT faster than you so im curious to see how you'd play it as well.

if you are above mach, above 2km the AIM-9J or R-60 wont catch you. Magics maybe, Aim-9G maybe. But i can say with 100% sure about the 9J and R60. I spaded my Mig-23M and the last thing i pick, was the flares, one because is only 12 and because i always fly as fast as possible close to the ground.
