Why Relationships Suddenly Change After Loss & Tips to Help w/ Dr Kate Truitt

  • In this psychoeducation, Dr. Kate Truitt begins by reminding us that humans are really bad at death. When we experience loss, our relationships can change drastically. They can ghost us or disappear, shift the way they communicate with us, or might not engage the way they used to.
    If we’re used to being the strong ones, grief can change our relationships. If we’re experiencing any of these changes, Dr. Kate reminds us that they are normal. Humans are bad at death.
    She encourages us to utilize self-compassion and anchor into it. It’s important that we give ourself the loving care we need. Relationships will be fluid right now.
    If we need to, we can practice the healing exercises like CPR for the Amygdala to create spaciousness for ourselves. We can also use the Push Pause Exercise and Havening in Groups in order to help us through this journey.
    Loss is emotionally activating. It takes time to move through the journey, and everyone’s journey is unique. If you need help, it’s okay to ask.

    I've never felt so lonely since this loss, it's been 7 months of intrusive thoughts of being hated and not liked after my surrogate mum died. I spend most of my days reassuring myself I'm safe, but I don't feel it. She represented someone who loved and accepted me for who I was and maybe my brain is trying to make sense of no longer having that, the opportunity here is to give that to myself and recreate a life that reflects that back. Thank you for sharing these videos. I'm currently doing EMDR and Havening to help me

    Could you please consider doing a video about self forgiveness and releasing shame and guilt? I've been struggling with generalised anxiety my whole life and after several months of cbt sessions i thought i would stop having anxiety attacks from now on. Yesterday i was proved wrong😞 i think a lot of us struggle with self forgiveness after sth like this happens...
