Fantastic video sir... No cheesy music, no wasted words and all spanner sounds.... ❤. With current prices on New cars and all the EPA gizmos installed, this truck is a gem deserving restoration.
Thank you for the kind words! I am so glad you enjoyed the video! I agree! This truck is before all that stuff and it has been nice to work on so far, not overly complicated!
I love these old Rangers! And I have mad respect for the hard work you put into this. Definitely want to see more of it. You have a new subscriber here!
Amazing video. As someone with ADHD, you kept my attention the whole way. No talking, no music, just work. Got me thinking about working on my ford focus. Excellent video, new sub earned. Keep up the great work. Also, beautiful old ranger.
I had a 94 a long time ago that was a 4.0 5 speed. Those rear shackles like to rust through and the filler neck also likes to crack. I miss that truck sometimes because it was such an easy vehicle to work on. This video is basically proof of that. Thanks, man.
Great video. I built Ranger's at the Ford Twin Cities assembly plant before it shut down. And, I owned a 1994 Ranger for thirty years and 250,000 miles. I just donated it to an auto mechanics school. The early Rangers were great trucks and I plan finding a used one somewhere in the Southwest and restore it as well. Thanks for the memories.
That is awesome!! They definitely made these trucks to be able to work on! Currently redoing all the front suspension and brakes, going pretty smooth so far! Thanks for your view and comment!
Aw man, all the nostalgic vibes with this video - I had a 1996 Ranger just like this one, in the same 'Cayman Green' color - except it was a 4-banger. Loved watching you work on this one, keep 'em coming!
Thank you! It has been a smooth process so far with this truck for the most part! And yes i love the teal, would love to try and paint it the original color at some point!
Neat video. That's a lot of work on that old girl. Except for basic maintenance, I don't do extra unless some issue makes it necessary on my old trucks, the old if it ain't broke, don't fix it philosophy. 1996 Tacoma, 355,000 miles, amazing machine, though not very pretty. Work = 120 miles round trip a few times a week. Still see a lot of Rangers of this vintage on the roads too, tough trucks. I owned several years ago, and there are a couple owned by people on my street currently that date to the late 90s.
Thanks!! Yeah they are very resilient trucks! Just like the tacomas, with basic maintenance, they seem to last forever! Sometimes i get carried away doing extra stuff, but i enjoy the process 😃 Thanks for the comment and support!
I love my 3.0 5speed ranger. I bought it wrecked, pulled the front end out of the engine with a chain and comealong, and fixed the hole in the radiator with jb weld. Threw some fenders and some led tractor lights on and it's the best side by side Ive ever bought

I've owned my 94 3.0 5spd ranger for 30 years. He has 651, 030 miles currently. You're doing a great job, and to see this ranger brought back to life is wonderful. These older 3.0 5spd rangers are very reliable. You should check the throttle cable as they are known to stretch. Check it at the pedal side. If there is slack, that would make it seem slow. You can put a few cable ties on it..that will make be like a new truck. Are you planning to do more work to your ranger?
Wow!! 650k is crazy! I will definitely check the throttle cable next! Yes, currently redoing the entire front brakes/suspension and steering system along with a few other things! Hoping to have another video out by the end of the year!
I'm looking forward to seeing it. My ranger was purchased new and has seen 44 states on many long road trips. The 3.0 is my favorite ranger engine. It must be mated with a 5spd..auto trans with this engine in the is horrible. Most 93-97 3.0 rangers came with 345 gears from Ford. When my ranger was stock from 94 to 99.. Those gears were actually good. I'm using 410 and 31x10.50 since 99, and it's great. Most people claim the 3.0 is gutless. It's not. They don't know it's a high rpm engine.. Don't be afraid to get those roms up. Do you have a tachometer? If not, you should get one from a wrecking yard.
I dont have a tachometer, i was wondering if it were possible to find a gauge cluster with a tachometer and if it was an easy swap or not. I think i will eventually upgrade the differential at some point as well!
The instrument cluster is easy on 89-94 dash. Explorer or ranger of 93-94 are the only 2 that will work for 94 ad 89-92 had different wiring in the dash for the cluster. Explorer is 5000 redline (4.0), ranger 2.3, 3.0 are 5500 redline..those are sorta rare as most 2.3 , 3.0 rangers had no tach. If you're able, great. If not, Explorer is your option. Remove the bezel, and some say Remove it as one peice. My experience is easier to take it apart peice by peice. You see screws to remove clear plastic cover and black plastic housing. Gently pull on the end gauges from top, and they will come out. Pull on speedometer and push on tab in back to release speedometer cable. Remove the screws to remove housing, pull on each side to reach behind to unplug the harness plugs, one per side...out it comes. Reuse your current speedometer so you have the correct mileage. Install is the same as removing it. It's sounds complicated, it's fairly easy to do. Suggest checking the bulbs also to make all work.
Lol thanks!! Sometimes if you dont have any help around, you have to make something work 😄 They are awesome little trucks and seem to last forever with little maintenance! Thanks for your comment and support!
92' ford ranger also V6 5spd manual, 1500 Canadian Pesos and about 1500 in parts has it running and driving well. At 200k km (124k mi) on the odometer hoping to get another 100k km (62k mi) out of it. Uses a lot of gas but glad it's been reliable. Good luck teaching your wife to drive :)
That's awesome! They are such reliable trucks and seem to last forever with little maintenance. They definitely use a lot of gas! Mine had 185k miles when i bought it, getting pretty close to 200 now! So far she is doing okay, might be swapping the clutch in one of these videos in the future 😄 Thank you for your comment and support!!
I got a 97 4.0 4x4. Dont drive it much as i should and body rust is starting to show up but man i love that truck. Summer time shes getting the rust fixed.
@FLManGarage just a tip even if stock headlights are bad don't get aftermarket headlight housings. Impossible to properly aim and the spread is awful. If you need more light just get a cheap small lightbar and put it in front of the grill.I Look forward to more videos dude.
Dang i ordered some new headlight housings already, we shall see if they are good quality or not! Thanks! I should have another video out on the ranger before the end of the month i am hoping!
@FLManGarage i tried 2 different brands both of them equally are ass. Just dont be like me and junk the oem headlights keep them incase you want to switch back lol
My mom had the 4 cyl version about 10 years ago, i swear it was faster than this 6cyl. Maybe different gear ratio. The 6 cyl has realllly long gears. Thank you for your view and comment!!
@FLManGarage I learned to drive a manual on a Ford 3 on the tree. Then my dad bought a Ford Courier and I had fun in it but then he bought 3 Ford Rangers over the next 10 years and one of them was the 4 cylinder with 5 speed and I loved that truck. When I went to purchase a truck a couple years ago you can tell I was inspired by this because my 2013 Nissan Frontier is a 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual. LOL
Awesome!! The ford couriers are such unique vehicles! Frontiers are also great little trucks and it’s refreshing to know they made them in manual transmission in 2013!
I somehow stumbled upon this video and watched it entirely.. I did in fact like the radio harness you made. Way better than butt connectors. New subscriber!
Thank you so much for subscribing! I appreciate the feedback on the radio harness, glad you liked it! I definitely try to avoid the butt connectors if i can, they seem to lead to problems for me at least.
@@FLManGarageI tend to avoid butt connectors and will use spade connectors in their place if able. #1 makes for easier replacement down the road if something fails and #2 I just trust that connection better. 😅
Good morning 🌄 Ford Man here! I love the Ranger content 🤠 I would like to see more. I used to have a '96 Mazda B4000 Ext. Cab 4x4! I wrecked it a long time ago 😭 But now I'm driving a 2000 Ford F-150 Supercab 4x4. Awesome truck 🛻
Thank you for your support! Will definitely have more ranger content soon as we improve it further! Sorry to hear yours was wrecked! They are great little trucks!
Thank you very much this is excellent content to anyone who is over concerned about the look of their truck you're right you are over concerned it's a truck
Yes I do really like S10s and yes Chevy does have its problems like the early nineties 2000 GM wiring issues but we're not going to talk about that okay
Thank you for this priceless value wonderful video of your Ford ranger God bless you and merry Christmas 🌲♥️🙏 for all family haby holiday season for all of you
Ok, from owning a 3.slow, you gotta check the timing set. The heads LOVE to lift so get used to the idea of head gaskets replacement, A LOT. NEVER try to merge into traffic on an interstate to you'll get ran over. When I say gutless, you're about to figure out what that term means. Doing a swap to a 302, that's easy enough, until you realize the transmission HAS to change too. The rear end HAS to change also. The 7.5 the truck has, won't take a 302's output. Exploder rear ends are idea for the swap. You'll need fab skills that get it done though. The brackets have to change to underslung. The exploder set up is overslung. Being it's an extended cab, it should ride a lot better. Depending on what you want to use it for, the overslung can be used. Off road goes out the window if that's the case. Otherwise, you made a really good start. Little things like O2's help it run correctly. TPS(throttle position sensor), IAC (idle air control), every sensor on the truck, needs to be replaced. Most of them are feedback sensors. The supply the ECM with information. I normally won't give this type of input to anyone. I'm 30+years into mechanics. I've built door slammers and engines. So I know where the give points are. Things like a timing set, that love to break when it's the least opportune time, are the very kinds of things I always look at. You have no idea when the last chain was swapped so it'll pay you to tear the front down and expose the chain. Mine ate them all the time, crap oiling. When I began my swap, to a 302, I rebuilt my block. If you look at the available aftermarket parts, for a 302, you get damned near endless possibilities. Plus you CAN use the typical Mustang ideas for how to make it quick. The rear end gear ratio's that were used for exploder rear ends, basically cover the spectrum. I get t one with 3.73's in it. Plus traction lock(posi, for the Chevy dummies), 35 spline axles, rear disc brakes, and the plates you'll need to put it in. If you'll simply locate a 302 exploder, and study how Ford did it, it'll all make tons of sense. Yes, it's your truck. You can do whatever you see fit. I'm just trying to help you realize there's options to having to deal with a gutless wonder.
Thank you so much for all that advice! On the next round for this truck i will definitely be replacing all of the sensors, and would also like to do valve cover gaskets and a few other gaskets, depending on how far i get into it, i may check out the timing chain as well! This truck is definitely gutless for sure, but it is nice around town! Thanks again for your advice and comment!
Love the Ford Ranger had a 02 edge edition 4.0L motor 5spd manual. Just subbed to your channel did watch part two already and waiting for the next video.
Great video, man! Greetings from Brazil! This pick-up truck is still a current dream from part of the 90s' kids here! They were very expensive and still are these days! And it's very hard to find one in a decent condition/value that is worth to spend some time and money to perhaps rebuild it. These trucks are kind of "neo-classics" here in Brazil, most of them using 4.0l V6 engine (not so common to most of small and medium trucks in our country), and are costing R$60k to R$100k in good shape/restored (something around U$15k today/2024). Keep the good work, sharing the next chapters of your restoration process! 👊🤘
Wow! Thanks so much for that information and history! I had no idea they were sought after like that in brazil! 🇧🇷 Thank you for your comment and i will continue to post the progress of this truck! Thanks for your support from brazil!🇧🇷
Absolutely! I drove it back in the middle of summer and quickly decided that a/c would be at the top of the to do list!! Thanks for your view and comment!
Awesome video man, I love this generation of Ford Rangers, probably one of the best trucks of all time. How do you get your body work to be so perfect, especially at home? And how do you stay organized with all your projects? You seem very well put together, amazing job man
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes i love this generation of ranger, very robust! What body work are you referring to? The fender replacement and the door alignment? As far as organization goes, i try to do one section of a project at a time, my next goal for example is to replace all the front brake and steering components on the ranger, so i will order all those parts and complete that job before moving onto a project on the c10 or something else 😃 Thanks again for your view and comment!
@@FLManGarage Yes! I’ve been meaning to replace the dented fender on my Impala but have been putting it off for a while cause I’m scared I’d mess it up more. I should probably start writing my projects down too, sometimes I bite off more than I can chew haha. Love your videos though man, keep them coming!
For the fender is was really just trial and error! Slap it on there and see if it lines up, if not, loosen some bolts and shimmy it around 😄 Thanks so much! Much more to come soon!
Great video, I've owned several of these trucks over the years. Would love to do videos like this one with some of my old videos, but man, that's a ton of work... and jump cuts... wish there was a way to have AI do it instead.
Thanks!! It is a ton of editing! My c10 video took weeks to edit, but i enjoy it to a point. A little bit at a time 😃 Ai will probably be able to do it soon! Thanks for your comment and support!
Awesome. I like these full restoration videos without a lot of talking. My only suggestion is showing what you’re doing a little more so I can learn. The captions were helpful.
I’ve had 4 Rangers and I had put 350,000 miles on the’91 by the time I sold it! The 3.0 was a great engine and that’s probably why Ford killed it as it was too good. My favorite was the ‘94 Splash 3.0/5 spd. When you take the bed off, replace the gas tank straps, they do rust out.
Wow! 350k is impressive!! I will check the straps next time im under there, lucky there has not been too much deep rust damage yet! Thank you for your comment and support!
So true, i couldnt agree more. Even my wife says why is the new ranger so big. Its as big as an f150. The whole point of a ranger is to be a small truck, good on gas! Thanks for your view and comment!!
I'm here in Michigan, getting ready to enjoy another salt filled winter. By Michigan standards, that is not rough cosmetic shape! I'm jealous that I don't see any apparent rust on it!!
Yeah! There’s really no major rust damage! Just a bit of surface rust here and there. One of the great things about living down south is no salt or snow to destroy the cars!!
Amazing video! How did you tell the fuel was still leaking after replacing the pump and filler neck -- could you smell it in the cabin? I'm a DIYer and still learning, thanks!
Thanks! Yes i could smell fuel horribly after filling up and then i looked between the cab and the bed and could see fuel on top of the tank 🥲 Thanks again for your support and comment!!
damn bro, i want a ranger and your video will help me if i need to do something on it, thanks! but it would've been nice to have some explanation on what did you do with the A/C system.
Thanks for the kind words! I basically just replaced everything with the ac then vacuumed and refilled freon. If you look on my page i have a video with a lot of the footage from this video where i explain what i am doing also 😃 Thanks for your support!!
Honestly, the other stuff was in decent condition, i could have gotten away with filing the contact points on the rotor and the cap but the parts were cheap enough to just replace and have the peace of mind! Thanks for your view and comment!
Nice video 👍🏽. After doing all that work how much was it to do the whole restoration ? I just bought a 1995 ford ranger 2.3l 4 cylinder 5 speed and I want to start restoring it. It drives good and everything but I would love to do a whole tune up and stuff just want to know around how much it will be to do that.
Thanks so much! For this video i think everything was less than $800. The parts are relatively cheap, look on rockauto, I typically find the best prices on there
Howto teach standard(from a long time driving instructor). Start in first gear and have student engage the friction point. Repeat, repeat, repeat, don’t worry about stalling. Go forward and go back. Once the student is competent with the friction point (usually 30-45 minutes) place your hand over hers and drive in low density, lower speed areas and go thru the gears. Within 30-45 minutes she will have enough muscle memory to be on her own. Then go over the finer points of when you upshift and downshift.. don’t yell, or get angry. Be very patient or you may never have sex again.
I have a small ultrasonic cleaner, if i take a part off and it can fit in there i use that with some degreaser, usually just nuts and bolts in there. If im just cleaning some plastics and stuff in the engine bay i just use a spray bottle with soap and water, nothing fancy there!
I think I must be the only one that prefers stock radios. I prefer to be as stock as possible. I just use a cassette adapter to play music from my phone.
I definitely prefer the look of the stock radio and if it still worked i would have just left it been, i had this radio laying around so figured i would put it in, since i did not modify any oem wiring, i could easily switch back to a stock radio in the future, but for now, i am enjoying the functionality of the new one 😃
Love this, no intro, no bad music, no background music, just the sound of a person working on their vehicle. Nice truck there sir, subbed!

Awesome! Thanks so much for that info! I will be checking the junkyard soon! 😃
Really enjoyed the video thankyou.
Thank you so much for your support! Im glad you enjoyed it, more to come soon!
This is awesome! I love your video style. Just subscribed!
Thank you so much for your support and subscription !!
The ratchet straps tied to the bed to remove it the second time was actually pretty ingenious, lol. Rangers are awesome!
Lol thanks!! Sometimes if you dont have any help around, you have to make something work 😄
They are awesome little trucks and seem to last forever with little maintenance!
So far she is doing okay, might be swapping the clutch in one of these videos in the future 😄
Thank you for your comment and support!!
I got a 97 4.0 4x4. Dont drive it much as i should and body rust is starting to show up but man i love that truck. Summer time shes getting the rust fixed.
Yes!! Get her fixed up and put some miles down! I am about to do a lot more work to this little ranger and it will be a great little truck!
Will definitely keep all the old parts for sure! 😃
I've always loved the Ford Rangers. I specifically like the 4 cylinder 5 speed manual option myself. Nice job! 👏🏻
Good video loved the C10 build but way over my head to do. The Ranger project is doable for lots of us, Ill follow it!
Awesome!! Thanks for the feedback, i am glad it is being received well so far!
More Ranger content please! Greetings from Germany.
Definitely will be more to come! Thank you for your comment and support!!
Yes absolutely! 😃
Been watching your videos for a few days now, making me feel bad for not finishing my projects 😂
Just a little bit at a time and it will get done! 😃
earned a sub from me. The title says it all. No BS. Just a guy working on a ford ranger.
Thank you for your sub! More to come soon!
Chevy's have door hinge problems
Yes I do really like S10s and yes Chevy does have its problems like the early nineties 2000 GM wiring issues but we're not going to talk about that okay
Okay understood
Thank you so much for your support!!
Thank you for this priceless value wonderful video of your Ford ranger God bless you and merry Christmas 🌲♥️🙏 for all family haby holiday season for all of you
God bless you and merry Christmas! Thank you for your support!
That sounds like an awesome truck!! Thank you for the sub and support! More coming soon!
@ can’t wait
I appreciate the support !!
Thank you for your comment and i will continue to post the progress of this truck! Thanks for your support from brazil!🇧🇷
Nice little touch ups on a beater.
Thanks!! Precisely my goal! Will slowly do some more stuff and if she is a good girl, maybe will try my hand at a paint job
@FLManGarage nice, you could just paint it like you did with the underside of the bed. Keep going.
That is an option! I kind of like the old 90s teal that is had originally also!
Just awesome work. It will be a dependable vehicle for you!
Thank you so much! It has not let me down once so far!!
If you want to get speakers that are direct spot and come with harness get speakers and lots of other sound systems on crutchfield
Thank you! I will check them out for the rear speakers!
I used Rustoleum clear coat over rust reformer and it lasted longer and looked better.
Nice!! Thats a good idea, now i use eastwoods chassis paint and it looks amazing and so durable
Great job
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
Great job bro, keep doing more vids. ......greetings from trinidad and tobago
Thank you so much for your support!!
I dig it!
Sweet! Thank you for your feedback and support!
Good work, please do more fixing or upgrade
Will do!! More to come soon!
Thanks for your view and support!!
Florida summer needs A/C working
As far as organization goes, i try to do one section of a project at a time, my next goal for example is to replace all the front brake and steering components on the ranger, so i will order all those parts and complete that job before moving onto a project on the c10 or something else 😃
Thanks again for your view and comment!
Slap it on there and see if it lines up, if not, loosen some bolts and shimmy it around 😄
Thanks so much!
A little bit at a time 😃
Ai will probably be able to do it soon!
Thanks for your comment and support!
Awesome. I like these full restoration videos without a lot of talking. My only suggestion is showing what you’re doing a little more so I can learn. The captions were helpful.
I will definitely try to make that happen in future videos! I appreciate the feedback and view!!
I like these small trucks, man. Practical, easy to work on, cheap as heck, and a true work horse. The new rangers are way too big and complicated.
So true, i couldnt agree more. Even my wife says why is the new ranger so big. Its as big as an f150. The whole point of a ranger is to be a small truck, good on gas!
Thanks for your view and comment!!
this was nice
Thank you for your view and support!
Good job..subscribed!
Thank you for your support, I appreciate you subscribing!
I like the Ranger content. I’m a fan or Rangers fan
Awesome! Thank you for your feedback and support!!
I think it looks clean
Thanks!! It will look even better soon! 😃
Hello
I am ALI FROM KUWAIT
I ENJOYED YOUR videos
Thank you so much for your support from kuwait! More to come soon!
It's beautiful.
Thanks so much!! 😃
Im am here to witness you becoming famous. Remember my name once you become famous.
I shall remember your name, if that were to ever happen! 😃
Thank you for your support!
nice video dude
Thank you so much for your support!!
Amazing video! How did you tell the fuel was still leaking after replacing the pump and filler neck -- could you smell it in the cabin? I'm a DIYer and still learning, thanks!
Thanks!
Yes i could smell fuel horribly after filling up and then i looked between the cab and the bed and could see fuel on top of the tank 🥲
Thanks again for your support and comment!!
damn bro, i want a ranger and your video will help me if i need to do something on it, thanks! but it would've been nice to have some explanation on what did you do with the A/C system.
Thanks for the kind words! I basically just replaced everything with the ac then vacuumed and refilled freon. If you look on my page i have a video with a lot of the footage from this video where i explain what i am doing also 😃
Thanks for your support!!
Please more videos!
More to come soon!! Thanks for your comment and support!!
Apart from the spark plugs, which were worn to death, did any other ignition component really need to be replaced?
Honestly, the other stuff was in decent condition, i could have gotten away with filing the contact points on the rotor and the cap but the parts were cheap enough to just replace and have the peace of mind!
Thanks for your view and comment!
I love old rangers
They are such good little trucks, perfect size!
The parts are relatively cheap, look on rockauto, I typically find the best prices on there
16:35 damn that BMW is clean
It was a sweet looking car, i had it for about a year before i sold it.
Thanks for your advice!! I will try again soon, the hardest part is staying patient for sure!! 😆😆
Now is time to paint the car. ❤
Yes! That will definitely be coming in a future episode!
@FLManGarage if you need information, write me or ask my mail.
Will do, thanks!!
I’m trying you to see if you truly reply to all comments… in all seriousness, I enjoyed the video. Keep it up!
I do! Thanks so much for your support and comment! More to come soon!
Bom trabalho!
Thank you for your support!!
I like that you are teaching your wife how to drive manual. Now all you have to do is teach her how to hotwire a vehicle lol.
Step 1 complete, now it is time for step 2! 😄
What did you spray on the bolts in the bed at 10:35?
I use kroil, its expensive, but works amazingly!
My favourite trucks
They are such good little trucks! 😃
Thanks for your view and comment!
What are you using to clean small parts and inside the engine bay?
I have a small ultrasonic cleaner, if i take a part off and it can fit in there i use that with some degreaser, usually just nuts and bolts in there. If im just cleaning some plastics and stuff in the engine bay i just use a spray bottle with soap and water, nothing fancy there!
@FLManGarage good to know, thanks!
No problem! Thanks for your view and comment!
More content from the ranger plz
Thank you for your view and comment! Have more ranger content coming up soon!!
