Sorry for any issues regarding the music editing in the first third of the video, was running into some copyright issues! Hope it doesn’t bother you guys too much and thanks for watching
You probably will need to swap the fuel pump to a lower pressure one meant for carbs. The original tbi fuel pumps run at a higher pressure and will overwelm the needle and seat in the carb and cause it to run super rich. Trucks looking good, keep up the good work.
Hey, I don't know if someone already commented, but I wanted to let you know what that side trim is for. It's so people wouldn't damage the truck if they bumped your car with their door in a parking lot or something. It bulges out just far enough to take any and all bumps of that sort. It's not really necessary to have on, but it's a cool little feature of the 80s and 90s.
I rolled a little Nissan 4x4 one night. It took on a lot of damage, but never stopped running. The windshield & several windows were broken, roof caved in, etc, but I drove it home ten miles away. Mechanically those are really solid vehicles.
Scrap guys will usually take vehicles regardless if they are full of crap or not, so many people fill them to the brim and have it picked up when it's full🤷♂️
I have been messing with junk cars for literally 30 years doing exactly what you just did. Good job, saving vintage cars from the scrap heap of history. Get that carb dialed in and ignition timing squared away along with the clutch issues and it's a great truck. Long live the mini trucks!
I'm impressed by how thorough of a mechanic you are at such a young age, you're just a kid. You have a bright future ahead of you, whatever it is you choose. That truck is sweet. My dad has a 2001 Nissan Frontier 2 WD total base model and every time he takes out someone asks him if he's ever going to sell it. He says no every time. It only has 68k miles on it.
I've taken the carpet out , scrubbed it like you did and hung them on the wall of the car wash and gotten them to look nearly new as long as they weren't worn thru. Truck came out fairly nice and will be a good one when you get it sorted. I had one for a work truck when they were fairly new. Solid little trucks and you can abuse them like that one was, but if you do the maintenance on them they'll come right along.
very cool score. i realize, or hope, this is just part one, but surprised you didn't pull the carpet and do a better job cleaning the inside especially after seeing mold. and gotta lose the bed liner and metal bars/grate. just subscribed, look forward to the next video
I had one of these in High School (class of 93), what a treat to see the interior of one again. I loved that truck, should've never traded it in for a Mazda.
I've always been a Car and Truck guy.... Its good to see young guys into old Trucks.... I talked to a guy a few weeks ago with a nice all original 88 Toyota Pickup..... He said he wanted something reliable and no payments...... I was a kid when these Trucks were new.... If I only had a time machine
Great to see younger generation recycling and learning to turn a spanner. A great project truck which can only benefit from time and parts. It would be cool to see a budget paint/wrap/plasti job to finish it off? I would repaint the wheels, not cool in white.
Hang onto it! That truck is pretty rare especially with it being a 4x4. I personally own and drive a 2004 Supercharged 4x4 crew cab long bed Frontier, I won’t ever get rid of it no matter how much of a pain it is I know how rare it is.
Heck yea, I personally have a 02 frontier now and have had it 9 years or so, it's my baby😅 Green, supercharged, 4x4, 4 door with the long bed. Our trucks with the long beds are somewhat rare themselves. I think it's the perfect sized truck, since it's a medium sized truck the long bed just makes it look right.
An SC frontier is a dream truck for me. Contemplating the 3.3 SC engine as a swap for whenever the red one dies on me. That won’t be for many years tho hopefully!
I just came across your channel for the first time and you did a decent job at freshing up that old truck. It would be great if you did a full restoration just to prove the point that this truck still has a lot of potential. I recommend looking up the Mad4Motors channel for inspiration. The guy does full restorations on cars in far worse condition than that truck.
This just demonstrates that a little patience and NOT very much money can get basic transportation without a big car loan. Good example for ALL of us....
Nice clean-up on the little Nissan. Don't neglect the fuel pressure regulator for the Weber carb, especially since you converted from TBI, which uses high pressure. Weber's run with very low pressure. I have an 81 Toyota w/22R that I put a Weber kit on and they definitely need low pressure fuel fuel.
Awesome job my friend,im old enough to remember when those harbodys first came out .great little trucks, very reliable and fun. keep up the good work.i enjoyed the video.
Boy does that truck bring back memories. My dad had a 90 Nissan 2wd base 5speed that learn to drive. Dumped the clutch in reverse and did a burn out. Only because my dad said ease on the gas and let off the clutch. I was laughing. My dad just. shook his head. 😂 Great video. New subscriber here. ❤
Love old trucks. I once bought a 92 Hardbody for $200. Frame rusted in two and came with no keys. Welded it back together with angle iron and installed a switch to start. Worked great! Keyless entry and pushbutton start!
Brilliant work Toby. You should be very proud of the progress you've made especially given the condition the truck was in when you got it.Thanks for sharing and wishing you all the best for the rest of this project 🙂
Pro tip, get the mechanical stuff done FIRST, if the engine or transmission did fail you, all the other work would have limited value. Great video and glad you kept it on the road.
The little trucks never blew my hair back (especially being 6'4 and 225 lbs lol) but I do admire older vehicles. I would've loved to see a more appropriate rejuvenation, as in new carpet and maybe reupholstering the seats, restoring the dash, etc. But I love seeing older vehicles being brought back. About 20 years ago, I had an 87 pathfinder 5 speed 4x4 that was a complete piece lol but it was very reliable.
That truck D21 of Nissan and their series of engines , are a complete workhorse.

I think the reason I like restoration videos like this is because this is what the Lord did to me. Instead of letting me rot in my sin, he cleaned me off and restored me, and gave me a new life.
Cool to see some love for these older nissan trucks. My uncle had one that had over 300,0000 miles (2wd 4cyl), then gave it to my cousin, and he still drives it to this day. Always loved the 80s and 90s nissan and toyota trucks. They don't make em like this anymore (in the US). They really need to bring back these simple mini trucks, just bare bones, strong and reliable.
I had one for a few years, manual and in pretty decent shape. It was a blast to drive in snow, and was a work horse. Sold it when I got a new truck. Had to use a screwdriver to open the hood until I fixed it lol
Great vid. I was worried to see you guys didn't replace all the water in the brake lines with fresh brake fluid. Please do that as soon as possible with any used car purchase in humid climates!
On an unrelated note, I used to have the Happy Feet book. I still distinctively remember clicking the buttons on that piece of plastic thing, which is supposed to be attached LOL, and listening to the terrible sounds because of the dying batteries.
Great Video guys, I always love seeing old cars getting love and attention. just for information's sake, that trim piece you took off on the sides were referred to as "door bumpers" (not an official term), but they were there so if people opened their doors to fast or weren't paying attention, they would hit the rubber/plastic pad instead of the metal on the door, saving you some small dents and scratches over the years.
These things are tanks! I purchased a 1982 Datsun 720 , it's the series before the 1985 hard body. Naps z 24. Carbureted. In New England where all these little Japanese trucks turned to dust long ago, this would probably be a $1,500 truck in that condition. If I could find an old pre-1988 'Yota in this shape, I would throw that money at it in a heartbeat
