    Why did you not ditch the t-case and either change the end of the trans or get a 2WD trans for this build?

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage 27 хвилин тому

      Because this stuff all worked so i didnt want to buy a new trans for it. I would have to take apart the rear of the trans and put a different output shaft on it if i got rid of transfer case. And then a different crossmember and also a longer drive shaft. If this works all the same, then why not run it until i build my new engine and trans?

    Respect for the idea, but painting (rust removal) is awfull. Sorry, all paint will be on the ground after autumn next year.

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage 2 години тому

      I will report back next autumn, but i think it will be just fine, the product i used to preserve the original paint is designed to go over paint, bare metal, rust. 👍🏻

    I love it! Great job! I think I'd pay a little more attention to the rear end being centered in the wheel, well openings and possibly shortening it. Just a tiny bit. Other than that, perfect job

      Thanks! Yeah that is the biggest flaw with the swap, i dont know if its a flaw in the kit or how i installed it, if i move the bed backwards, there is a big gap between the cab and the bed. For my first big project it came out pretty good but there are definitely things I would do differently if I were to redo it! Thanks for your view and support!

    Thanks for the tutorial. I’m wondering if dont activate the parking brakes on our manual cars. Do we still need to remove the brake motor for that? I hope that’s one of the perks of manual G8x.

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage 17 годин тому

      Mine was manual and I still had to do this, i think, but not sure, when you turn the car off it engages the brake

    • @21void5
      @21void5 13 годин тому

      @ I prevent the parking brakes from seized up after washing my car and I manually disengage the parking brakes before turning the engine off. I was able to roll the car so I’m thinking we might be able to do it. I’ll have to try it out to see if I can avoid that.

    overall, well done build. really enjoyed the video and your craftsmanship. only things that had me scratching my head were the high gloss clear, interior color palette/chrome deletes, and mirrors. bonus points on painting the engine block. nice old school touch.

    • @flesrouytsacdaorb
      @flesrouytsacdaorb 4 дні тому

      @@FLManGarage of course, and as you should. with a build like this you would be insane to not do it how YOU want to do it. I"m just some guy on the internet. chrome deletes - was surprised at the window vent trim and instrument cluster bezels turning black. there's a lot of color going on in the interior. white, chrome, black, brown/beige and the original creme on the door panel. imo, three colors is top, four if there's an accent color that flows. again, bad ass job on this build.

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage 4 дні тому

      The vent windows and cluster were in pretty rough shape and it was just easier/cheaper to black them out then re chrome. I agree on the many interior colors, i have actually since wrapped the door panels in the same color as the seat. I may change the chrome on the glove box door since it has blinded me more than once 😄 Thanks again!

    Hello from the united kingdom 🇬🇧. I came across your channel and are amazed at all the hard work you have put into this truck. But I can never and will never understand why on earth you would go to all this hard work and then not even bother to paint the truck properly it seems like a complete waste of hard work in doing all the chassis work and then when you get to the bodywork you just go and paint lacquer over the top of rust. It’s a shame because I liked all of the work you have done to this old truck but disappointed to not seeing it being properly painted.

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage 5 днів тому

      I prefer the old look, i think it tells the story of how this truck survived over the past 60 years. My goal was to build a truck that drives like new, but retains its old look. It would cost probably another $20,000 to buy new panels, body work, paint. And then it just looks like every other restored truck This way it keeps its uniqueness, but I understand this look is not for everyone and i respect your opinion! My next truck project will be a full restoration including body work and paint! Thank you for your view and comment!

    • @FLManGarage

      You are 100% right. The problem is the cab is far back as it can go right now and if i move the bed back then theres a huge can between the can and bed. Let me guess they paid you to take the bike and you bought the trailer so it was all free in the end...

      Not quite, i paid $280 for the bike and trailer. I fixed up the trailer and sold it for $300, so was close to getting the bike for free

    Hey I think you did a killer job on everything except the battery it should not be located in the cab because it will put out acid fumes

      it did and does run just fine, however, i plan to build a 6.0 with a 4l80e for this truck in the future which is why i did not want to spend any more money on this 5.3

    I’m new to the whole truck scene. Is that bed a short bed or long? And if it is a short bed, how many feet is it exactly? I keep coming back to this build I’m obsessed lol. I’m in such a frenzy for more videos on it. I want to see some Chevy barn mirrors put on, I know the ones it had were ford, if I’m remembering correctly. Also is the “new truck” automatic or manual? Forgive me for the obvious questions. I believe you mentioned possibly putting a new cluster in the future, If im right I can’t wait to see that. I’d definitely love to see something a bit modern when it comes to the cluster. I definitely want to see how you address the heating and cooling! I totally want to see that! And I don’t mean to speak for you but judging off your work, I feel like you’re going to put something that works phenomenal, not just some dingy inefficient heater and a/c. I know that lip above the windshield is a collector for rain/rust. (Chevys fault) Was wondering if you’re going to engineer that better? weld it and smooth it out or put some weather stripping. Just to avoid any future rust, because after all it’s Florida. I also saw the battery in back of the seat, is that wear it normally goes? Or does it go in the hood? I watched your video on what you would do differently while you were washing the truck. So apologies if you’ve answered some of my questions. Also how many mpg? Do you think it would have costed more to keep the original c10 frame and buy all necessary suspension and frame parts? Do you say it drives smoother with the Tahoe frame or would it drive smoother with the c10 frame? I have this vision in my head that (how it currently is) it drives like butter, and the handling and suspension are smooth and great…idk if my vision is right? I’d definitely like to know. Also I know you mentioned maybe the body/ bed needed to be scooted further back or forward. Can you elaborate on that in a future video. I know it’s just my lousy opinion but I will keep saying it lol, that patina look you went with is PHENOMENAL! Like there’s this certain vibe. Like it looks all old and beat up which in a way is “bad” to some peoples eyes but to mine it just has so much history and originality. But also knowing that it’s fast, it picks up and it drives smoothly and handles like is brand new!!! It just gets me geeked! Like that scratch that you scratch that you’ve been dying to scratch! That bliss you get after you scratch! That euphoria! That’s how exactly how I feel when I see this truck!!! PATINA all the way!!! Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about this truck right!

      Thank you for your comment and support! I will try to answer all questions here! 1. It is a short bed “stepside” 2. The bed is 6.5 feet long 3. I will definitely be putting the barn door style mirrors back on soon 4. The truck is now an automatic using the 4L60E transmission 5. I will eventually put a new cluster in, but it is quite expensive (>$1600) 6. Heating and cooling are next up on my list! It will be done as good as I can! 7. I don’t have plans at the moment to fix the drip tray above the windshield, I store the truck indoors and don’t drive it in the rain much so I don’t think rust will be too much of an immediate concern 8. The battery is typically under the hood, but there wasn’t a good place for it since it goes on the opposite side of the engine compared to the 1966, putting it behind the seat makes it easy access for wiring and keeps the engine bay looking less cluttered 9. MPG is around 15 city to 20 highway 10. I think it would have been much more money keeping original frame, just disc brake conversion can be over 2k and I got a whole Tahoe with engine, transmission, brakes, suspension etc for $300 11. It drives so much smoother with the tahoe frame/suspension/power steering. It is a newer frame and technology by 30 years! 12. Yes! It drives super smooth, like a new car! 13. The bed gap is kind of hard to explain and it is not super noticeable in person 14. Thank you! I love the patina look as well, it’s definitely an opinion thing, as many people don’t like it, but I would never paint this truck Thank you again for your comment and enthusiasm God bless!
