      Sadly, these days, smaller cars and trucks are no longer manufactured, especally regular cab trucks, everything these days has to be 4 door station wagon trucks. Not everybody needs or wants a 4 door station wagon truck when a regular cab truck suites them quite well. And today, with gasoline prices going through the roof, those 4 cylinder engines are fuel efficient and as long as you matain them properly, they will indeed last you a good, long, LONG time. These manufactures of cars and trucks of today need to get back to basics once again, that's what we all nerd to do, get back to basics once again. Personally, I much prefer smaller cars and truck myself to, especally Ford cars and trucks.

    Interesting thing about a lot of fords, the oil pressure "gauge" doesn't have a sending unit. It's just a pressure switch that sends the needle to half scale as long as the pressure is above its threshold. Notice how it just jumps there and doesn't vary with rpm

    • @alekpo2000
      @alekpo2000 2 місяці тому

      i bet they do it that way so people wont bother them with the oil pressure dropping, like they used to do when cars came with vaccum gauges

    I really love the Rangers with the step side beds. To me that makes for a sexy truck. And for $350.00 and it runs? Hell yeah!!! I would have snapped that up in a heartbeat! I used to own a 99 Ranger 4x4 with the extended cab and step side bed. That little truck was a tank I can tell you! I owned it for 7 years till the 3.0 blew a head gasket. I was going to do the engine work till I looked at the frame and noticed a huge rot hole in the frame so I got rid of it. I'd love to get another one. I miss my truck.

    Great video as usual, Jay. I have a ranger with the duratec 2.3/manual. Bought it with 113k and discovered it burned oil shortly after. It threw a rod at 170k. I put a low mileage engine in it (66k) and this engine has held up much better after putting nearly 100k additional miles on it, but i agree: lima 2.3s are less problematic. Also, the coolant/heater hoses are overcomplicated and in awful locations for a Ranger. Cant wait to see part 2!

    • @ProjectFairmont
      @ProjectFairmont Рік тому

But it has rusted out the brake lines twice and it even rusted out the battery cables twice and one of the alternator bolts rusted off, mechanically is bullet proof like you said. Currently one of the shock towers rusted out and the floor pans are now gone. But the parts are sooooooo cheap ! I think I bought all new floor pans, shock towers, and radiator support for about $400. Also...............yes my light is completely gone.

    I got a 03 2.3 Ranger and my temp gauge always reads cool. They have a electric thermostat which are known to fail and fall apart. If you have enough coolant I'd check the thermostat, especially if it had water not coolant in it and it ices up from cool weather, it will break it..

    A worn but not crusty Ranger is a heckuva find. Especially at that price! If you kept her you could have a matched pair with your MR2. If you still have that. At least it looks "close" to that green.

    • @john242ti
      @john242ti Рік тому +1

      It'd also match his other Ranger, except, of course for the bed, front end, and taillights (other truck is a '95, IIRC)...

      I still have the Mr2, she’s pretty much put up for the winter. Thought about letting it go to have some cash to pump into other endeavors, but I can’t. It was my brothers, and I wouldn’t find another one the way I wanted it for the deal he gave me on it

    Nothing more satisfying then reviving a beater pickup.
    A bedliner would help, hides a lot of that damage.

    • @danbasta3677
      @danbasta3677 29 днів тому

      Actually, a paint on bedliner would be much, much better for this truck. Bedliners are nice, however, I've seen instances where they accumulate underneath the bedliner itself debris that will hold moisture, causing the bed to rust out. This little truck's bed is rough enough to clean it out good, a few places here and there with either sand paper to scuff off the paint, rewash it, let it dry, and spread that thick gooey paint on bed liner on the bed all over the place, let it dry and your ready to haul whatever you may want to haul without messin up the inside of the bed. And, laugh at me if you want, spray paint the underside of the bed, floorboards, frame and chassis with black rust olem paint to protect the underside of the truck from road salt and road chemicals.

    • @LinusCloudbuster
      @LinusCloudbuster 29 днів тому

      You are very misinformed bud. Spray in bedliner, especially diy solutions also rot beds. Water gets behind the bedliner and rots it from the inside out. The same with this rustoleum that used so foolishly recommend. If you want to slow down rust, lanolin based undercoatings are really the only way to go, and they have their shortcomings as well. Spraying rustoleum is just a foolish waste of money and time, unless you want to hide rust like a dirty flipper.

    So, fun thing with the airbag light
    It's actually something that can be repaired by ford, for free, because it's the Takata Airbag recall, the big one on the news from about a year ago.
    IIRC from working at a dealership, its completely free, and dealerships who have mobile service can come out to YOU(if youre close enough), do the repair for you completely free of charge.

    New Subscriber as of today. I really enjoy your channel. Personally, I would love to do what you do, but lack the "know how". I would dearly love to get an older small truck, like an old Hilux, Tocoma, Ranger, or a sweet Toyota 4Runner, etc. Disabled Vet, so I need an A/T. I have no idea where you are located, but perhaps we could do some business.
    Thanks for sharing! 😃
