  • The gaskets for the cheap Amazon.com purchased valve covers have failed me and started to leak. I purchased a set of Victor Reinz gaskets to replace the cheap ones, they were about 8 Euro each. I can not find a supplier in the USA but they may be available from O'Reilly's Auto. I've also seen online that Victor Reinz is owned by MAHLE and those gaskets are available on Amazon.com at the link I've provided below.

    I saw a video with Victor Renz and they said some gasket materials look alike and are very poor quality, you can't go wrong with Victor (Mahle) or FelPro.

    Thank you for helping me understand the crosshatch method for how to read and understand how to apply the RTV Sealant. I bet that resolved your issue, right?

      I think that the better quality gasket was more of a cause. The rtv must be properly applied though. Thanks for subscribing.

    Got the cheaper valve covers like you suggested but my gaskets had those ridges from that kit so i hope its not the same 4000 miles down the road.

      Hopefully they changed their design and you will not have the leaks like mine.

      When you wanna go cheaper you ended spending more
      I replace mines on the 350z and I put
      The original from nissan pretty expensive but worth it guaranteed at least 100k miles
      The last thing you wanna do
      Is to open half of engine to replace it every 4000 to 10,000 miles its not smart also the gaskets get them original better quality then the aftermarket when it comes to
      Engine you wanna put best quality not the cheapest quality if you can’t afford it then you shouldn’t get the car in the first place

    Just did mine and leaking on the driver side in the same places shown. Sucks but I'll have to pull that all off and replace the gaskets.

    Wondering if I can use new gasket with the old valve covers

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  2 роки тому +1

      No, because the spark plugs well gaskets are built into the cover. And even if the spark plugs gaskets aren't leaking now, they will eventually so best to change it all at once.

    I’ve done the same thing but any idea why there’s white smoking coming from my engine bay like underneath the throttle body, I don’t know where exactly but it smells weird.

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  4 роки тому

      Sounds like smoking antifreeze. It may all burn off and then be OK but if it keeps smoking for a long time than you didn't connect one of the hoses correctly.

    One of my spark tubes is leaking oil into it on the driver side. Which valve cover would you recommend and valve cover gasket?

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  5 років тому

      The valve cover I used and still recommend is linked in the description of the original video but I recommend replacing the gaskets that come with the covers with a set of Mahle gaskets. Part number in the description above.

    Did the spark plug tubes ever leak?i bought a set of fel pro valve cover gaskets just to determine the spark plug hole seals leak

      No, my spark plug wells never leaked after the valve covers were replaced.

    Hey bro how did you get to the 10th bolt on the passenger side. Thanks in advance.

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  4 роки тому +1

      I used a combo of 1/4 drive and various length sockets with and without universal joints to access all of the hard to reach bolts.

    Did the passenger side make a popping sound as well when you installed it?

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  4 роки тому

      I can't recall. I don't think so, but not because it seals differently, but because I remember having to seat it differently due to all f the wires and fuel lines at the back of the passenger side.

    Can changing 2 valve covers be done by someone who doesn't have the most knowledge about cars? Can it be done just by watching this video , do u need any really special tools or? Because I just bought a infinity g35 it just started mis firing n they say the valve cover is bad and there's 2 they say because it's a six cylinder. Pepboys wants 1700 to replace those and the 4th cylinder

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  3 роки тому +1

      It can be done with time and patience. I would recommend watching the entire video first to get a feel for what is involved. It does not require any special tools. What I'm concerned with though is what do they want to change on the 4th cylinder?

    Do you need to drain coolant ? And Does coolant gush out when your remove the 2 hoses from throttle body

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  4 роки тому

      Yes, you'll probably have to drain a little coolant or catch a little coolant that comes out of the throttle body. My setup has a shut-off valve at the coolant line going to the throttle body (it came with the plenum spacer I installed a long time ago) so I didn't have any coolant to deal with in this video.

    • @Gabriel-xh6hg
      @Gabriel-xh6hg 4 роки тому

      JR's Garage oh okay if loose some coolant can I just fill it back up in the resvior or do I have to fill it up by the radiator itself and bleed the system again ?

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  4 роки тому

      You'll need to top up the radiator first and then make sure the reservoir is at the proper level. Don't reuse the old fluid.

    • @JRsGarage
      @JRsGarage  4 роки тому

      And yes, bleed the system of air.

      No, never enough to collect on the floor, but it was dripping on the exhaust manifold and made the car stink when the engine was hot.
