My crankcase Breather Hose cracked since it was very hard and brittle. I was not able to order the OEM, but found this Dorman PCV Hose Part # 46012 locally.
Thx for the tutorial!! My mechanic wanted $1600 while I did it myself for $300. This was also my first ever repair on a car so I recommend anyone out there to go watch this video thru a couple times and learn the repair themselves. You’ll save a lot of $$$ and learn a couple things.
that's awesome! That's how I first started if they can do it so can you👍
@Jougan Nindo what was the fault with your car? mine misfiring garage has checked my spark plugs and coilpack but issue not resolved thinking this might be my next step but not 100% sure
@@KR-nh9sb if u have oil on ur spark plugs thats how u know u need to replace gaskets
@@luisavelar9883 i have oil in my spark plug wells so i’m replacing the entire valve cover whilst i’m in there! consider it peace of mind haha
you commented this on two videos
Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up if you found it useful thanks for watching!
Where did u get the head gasket kit?
@@edgarmartinez8070 I didn't replace the head gasket in this video if your referring to the valve cover gasket it bought it from rock auto
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE my bad, i meant the kit u got other than the valve cover gaskets. The metal ones.
I bought that one from autozon for like $45
Very detailed video I'm going to subscribe little bro. I'm usually a Mercedes man but I bought a 2004 Infiniti G35 because I wanted to see what it was like to drive one of those got it for 1500 and it had a bunch of mods on it so now I need to clean up what he didn't take care of and this is one of the jobs that needed to be done
Great tutorial once again. The electric driver sure speeds things up. A quick tip I used when I did the valve covers on my previous Nissan: I sprayed a tiny bit of spray glue on the valve cover so that the gasket wouldn't fall out when installing it.
thanks for the tip it was frustrating so I'm sure people will find your tip useful
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE For sure it helps a ton. The one thing you don't want is your gasket to move and get pinched! lol Kinda defeats the purpose of changing it in the first place :) I had a Maxima before owning my G35 and I did the rear valve covers on it... what a pain the rear! The longitudinal engine position makes it so much easier!
Had oil in cylinder and thought it was just the gasket ended up having a crack your video was the most helpful hands down 🗽
I did this and now the car won’t start 😩😩😩😂💀🤦♂️
Thank you sir. Really well explained and I like how you actually time lapsed as opposed to skipping over like the other videos 👌🏼
Thank you I Appreciate your feedback!
Bro you are the best at this on UA-cam literally rebuilt alottttt on my front end just from ur videos
Thank you!
Great idea with the fishing line! I think it will be even better if the knots are on the outside of the cover so the lines are easier to pull out while keeping the gasket seated.
Have to do my car soon so I looked up the video, thinking it was gonna be a pain. Doesn't look too bad. Thanks for the video. 👍
Thank you!
Use weatherstripping glue. A dot of it, around each bolt hole will be enough. Dries very quickly. Once you set it down it won't move. It's right next to the silicone at the auto parts store. I use it on o-rings and gaskets that won't stay on by themselves.
Yessir I use 3M super Gasket adhesive works wonders and saves from headaches the salor talk
aye 2 years later this a massive help

Thank you for the video It was very helpful. The local shop I took the car to gave me a quote of $4200 to change my valve covers with coils and sparks plug. Just finished changing it myself and spent roughly $300 for the full project + my time. Highly recommend doing this yourself if you have the time.
Awesome!
How was the difficulty? I’ve done zero maintenance work on my car myself (no experience), so I’m unsure if this is something I can do. The video looks simple enough to follow.
You should sue whatever shop you took it to because thats criminal
Best video for this job by far on the internet. Very explanatory, detail where it matters, and no time wasted on small talk I don't care about. Great video my friend keep up the good work!
thank you!

Thank you!
Another great video Eric. I always enjoy them. Stay safe out there and we need more p11 videos.
thanks for the support! I'll keep them coming!
Good job not editing out the tape mishap like most people would have. I just used a few dots of RBD around the gasket to hold it in place but the fishing line was a good idea too. How about removing and installing that #7 bolt on the drive side valve cover!? They knew what they were doing by putting those back there...
By any chance do you know the torque values for this job from the valve covers all the way up the final build up? Or were i can find them. Iv been searching online but I cant seem to find definate answers
Was going to do this on a 2003 G35, had all the parts sitting ant home, just waiting on a non rainy cold day. Got rear ended at a traffic light, and the insurance company wrote off the vehicle. Was really looking forward to all the frustration taking apart all of those bolts and wires too. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Sorry to hear that hope you are well
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE I'm good had to get rid of the G tho.
Sounds similar to my story but w/a different vehicle. Hope you weren't too badly hurt. Life is unpredictable and unfortunate things happen sometimes.

The tape idea 🤣🤣. Great stuff tho awesome vid Eric!
Thank you for making this video
my mechanic did the job for 500 and he paid 250 out his pocket for the gaskets he really only did the job for 250 so i call it a win win hes the goat
Instructions unclear.
Banana lodged in my piston
Little bit of heat helps remove those hose that connects the valve covers
Thx for showing the RTV gasket part brotha, have to do this same job soon still nervous about the make a gasket tho lol great detailed video 👍
Good shit, well explained and good fishing line technique.
thank you! I'm pretty proud of that technique lol
Very informative. Thank you bout to make my repair now. Hopefully I just have to replace gasket & not the whole valve cover. I initially thought you could replace the gromments, but I know now that it’s all one piece
This the best video for this I seen yet. I’m doing these and throwing on my gtr injectors , ported lower plenum , spacer and 4inch intake then flashing the tune at the same time as this
thanks man I appreciate it👍
I used Victor Reinz 15-10107-01 gasket on 05 G35 and they stayed in the valve cover without falling out. No tape or string required. Also install new NGK LFR5AHX Ruthenium plugs. Did a slight porting and polishing of both the upper and lower plenum. My Butt Dyno says I have a noticeable increase in power.
Dead when i seen tape didnt work and you cut😂
it was frustrating haha 😂
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE my god i was losing my mind today spent hours trying different tapes to secure the VCG on the passenger side while installing in its tight space, but no matter what I did the gasket would fall off somewhere in the front or the back. After over an hour of trying I ended up just using RTV to glue the gasket on. I know you aren't supposed to do this but it didnt feel like anything else was going to work. Hoping for no leaks when the rest of the motor goes back together tomorrow
I used permatex high tact to hold down the gasket. Works perfect. Excellent video my man ! Super easy to understand .
Very well done. Great video. My mechanic friend advised that I replace the valve covers. He said the plastic valve have likely warped from heat and age. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for the detailed video.
Old reply but this is usually true.
Just installed a magnaflow on my 350z, spotted an oil leak from the valve covers and recesses of plug wells. Unfortunately I have to replace the covers too but you're helping me save on the labor! Thanks!
Good video. That integrated spark plug gasket into the valve cover is a moronic design;. If those spark plug tube gaskets are leaking you'll need to pony up about $500 for the two valve covers rather than just being able to replace the spark plug gaskets by themselves which is the design in every other car I've seen.
How can you tell if spark plug tubes leak?
If you see oil inside the spark plug tube
8:15 what is the name of the hose I cracked mine but don’t want to order the wrong part
Did you ever find out?
Link is in the video description
Great video! Really helped a lot. I just got done doing this. It came up with three new codes. Two of the codes where because of the valve covers. I was mention that i could have possibly over thighed the valve covers. Even tho i used a torque wrench. Is that even possible for it to throw a code for that because of over thighed?
No thats not possible. I need to know what codes you have so I can better answer your question but vavle covers don't give a code

thank you so much!
Awesome video dude. Any chance you could drop the link to the gasket kit you used to replace all those metal ones?

Awesome videos bro just what I was looking for! I would recommend you change the valve cover as a whole instead of the gasket due to the fact when your spark plug o rings give out you will have to do the job all over again🤦♂️ just a heads up 👌
Thanks for watching man

There's a ground wire on the body on the driver side. Where does it connect 2?
If it's coming off the header it clips on to the frame
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE yes. I figured it out back then. I appreciate you for telling me. You videos are always informative.
Great video my guy. Im going to do this myself on my 08 FX35. Appreciate all the info you packed into this video. Sub earned!
Excellent video partner. I need to do this repair on my G35, but I'm not really sure if I want to spend $1100 at the dealership for both valvle gaskets. I never did any repairs like this to my car. Do you think a noive may have a decent chance to do this? Thanks for the advice.
It's a few steps that you need to take when you guys are removing these valve covers and it can be a little bit challenging if you don't have the right tools. I know a few people have tried attempting to do this repair but got stuck because they didn't have the right tools so if you don't have a good set of tools I wouldn't recommend doing it because you're going to have your vehicle parked until you can get the tools that you need but if you have enough tools and you are handy enough you should be able to get it done without any issues take it one bolt at the time and you can also do it.
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE Thank you for a quick response. Makes perfect sense. Would you by any chance recommend any specific tool set? Just curious if you may have something in mind. All the best to you otherwise and keep up the great work.
no worries what I used was a magnet, swivel sockets , gear wrenches a ratchet 10mm,12mm 14mm sockets. extension of different sizes a deep 10mm socket. A set of pillars and flat head
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE Thank you kindly sir. I really appreciate it. I may try this soon. Wish me luck. Have a great day sir. :-)
lmk if you need help or get stuck 👍
Thanks for the the vid. I'm in OZ and some models are called 2003 v35 skyline 350gt. Where can I get a service/repair manual for mine with step by step repair instructions? Please.
I would think use a little bit of gasket maker to hold gasket in place would probably work as well.
Is there a specific reason you did the coils first and then the plenum? Seems like it would be easier to do coils after the plenum has been removed?
No reason one of those things you realize after you do it lol
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE its sad I asked this question two years ago, yet I still haven't gotten around to doing my valve cover gasket lol
You skipped over alot of useful information in your video 😭
Like which? I am interested in knowing more information about this
thank you! i havent touched a engine in my life and i learned so much and was able to take care of what i needed on my 2004 g35:) made me realize i love to work on cars
Can someone help me? I snapped one of the cables in the back.
Man. If you lived in LA I would pay u to do this for me. I'm a girl and don't have the tools. Wished I knew how to do it myself
Great video. The best I’ve seen so far. Could you tell me what the other gasket set was? By the way. The fishing line trick was awesome 👏
Thank you appreciate it, here is the link amzn.to/3Aq9Gfl
fish line idea is brilliant; perfect it by not dragging the knots under the gasket while removing. tie it on top, or cut it/remove so as to not drag it along the gasket/underside. Bump #g35
Yup Works every time 👍
This video was done incredibly well, thank you!
They sell a glue you spray on the gasket and it won't move.
I personally never liked that stuff but yes that works too
P1273 and p1283 problems
What does it mean?
What does it mean?
This job took me 4 hours to complete, I guess because I cleaned & degreased the manifold & throttle body then used a blow dryer to dry everything up
Hey Eric you think it would be possible to have a word with you? (not on UA-cam regarding my G35)
Just did mine, thank you for this video. It really helped. Also it’s easier to remove the plenum first then unplug everything.
Yes thansk for the tip
Bro you did good. Ima start my gasket job next month in March 2023
Thank you!
3M spray glue works great for holding the gaskets to the valve cover during installation as well
Very cool video, well done! Two remarks though: 1) you are a brave man installing all those cover bolts with the intakes left open, ALWAYS stick some cloth in all of them while you work or one day you'll drop a bolt or a washer in there, and you'll be *****ed ;) 2) It would have been worth checking the valve clearances once you had the covers off, might as well do it now. But overall great video, will go back to it when I do my covers.
Can someone help me out with my doubts? cover valve torque 2nd step is 65 to 82 in/lbs what is the best set? same for upper intake manifold 44-61 ft/lbs what is the best.. thanks in advance
I think you just have to be in between those torque numbers so don't overthink it I didn't really torque down anyting I just put that in there for the information if needed
Question my mechanic made me buy brand new covers instead of replacing just the outer gasket , he explain tht each valve needs new gadket nd they dont sell separate , now i have notice oil leak from the covers i used a stop leak nd it seema to have work bc before my oil level would go low so far it stop should i re do de gaskets or leave it like tht? Any suggestion would help
If your spark plugs tube were leaking than you have to replace the entire cover it depends on what was the issue with your car. Did you buy oem covers if not that could be why it's leaking now. If you use the stock covers with a new gasket you won't have a issue but again your spark plu tube seals must be in good shape in order to re use
Nice video but next time instead of tape and fishing line. Get some copper gasket sealant spray a light coat on the side that’s going into the valve cover. Let it set for a few . Then install
Should have had the intake plugged up with the towels while you were installing the valve covers too
Thanks bro for the vid. You saved my ass. You have a subscriber for life now
Thank you, I'm glad the video helped ✊
Great video - Thank you! I'm gonna see if some spray on permatex tacky sealer will hold the felpro rubber gaskets in place while I do the cover install
Did you end up using permatex spray tacky sealer to hold your gasket in place. If you did how good it did?
I ran into a lot of issues doing it myself @@Andr1019_, so I punted and took it to a shop where a buddy of mine works. They used black gasket making permatex, not the spray.
@@synaptik111 thanks budd. I will be using their method to hold the gasket in place.
I just did mine and now the car won't start.. I check all the harness and everything looks good idk what I did
omg, that tape/fishing line is a great idea. but i never thought about the problem. I just put gasket maker on both sides of the rubber lining without thinking. i replaced my valve cover four years ago and so far no oil leaks yet.
The idea is that the spray will affect how the gasket seals
I was thinking the same thing all you have to do is put gasket maker on both sides and boom lol too easy
Great video, but when I put everything back, the car seems to have an air leak somewhere, I’m having a lot of trouble with it
It's not the stickyness of the tape or the texture of the fishing line, it's the surface area and friction coefficient. The fishing line has a lower frictional coefficient due to it's surface area than the masking tape.
I tried the fishing line works good just tie it on top of velve caver
Great job in explaining and displaying. A layman can follow your lead. Excellent job.
My question is, why didn’t you take the intake off first and then the cool packs wouldn’t have been easier but like tutorial man
30 minute tutorial
Me 3 days later after starting working: I'm DONE!!!😅😅😅
It can be difficult lol
Do yk how to fix a problem where my bolts that hold the cover down are stripped ? It doesn’t screw on tight which leads to my leak
Use a small wire and wrap it around the bolt
My car is back firing after i replaced it do anyone know what could be the problem?
Eric would create a lot of smoke if there is to much oil in the motor but i my i think my valve cover is done because it leak smoke out the back of the motor and there is oil in the back to spark plug wells
Yes correct
Yo bro thank you I love how you explain everything definitely helped me out
I paid 1,600$ for this job just to still have the same problem . Mechanic ghosted me after 2 months . Have not driven my Z in 5 months total now :( sitting and collecting dust . I have bills to pay . Shit makes me sad how some mechanics can take advantage of woman . Now I’ll learn and do it myself .
Damm sorry to hear that hopefully this video can give you all the info to do the repair
Why was gasket spray adhesive not used? Just curious....
So this also is to replace a head gasket right??? Not just the covers I’m sorry but I’m new to this and I have a z so please lmk bros:( my Z keeps on overheating so I’d like to know if this is to also replace the center piece head gasket cus I’m most likely sure that’s my problem due to my car overheating
No this just vavle cover gasket

excellent video thank you my friend! So i only need the valve cover gaskets and the spark cover gaskets right? I was told by infiniti dealer my 2003 g35 sedan six speed manual has the valve covers you have to replace because the gaskets are a part of them?
yes correct you can't replace the spark plug tube seals because they are built into the valve cover

Thanks for making this video cause I just found out 3 days ago I need this done to my ride.
you made a very good video for both 1st time diy'ers & professionals. you kept with the step-by-step procedure with little or no unnecessary talk. including the factory service manual pages with torque specs and other info was a nice touch. the only step i would've added was to cover the exposed intake manifold ports during assembly as well as disassembly. also, it wouldn't hurt (and is recommended) to cover up ALL holes & passages i.e. hose connections, etc. the blue tape you used works well since it comes off easier than electrical tape or similar. also, for all the work it takes to replace the vc gaskets, i would also replace the vc's themselves in order to get new spark plug tube seals. and a new pcv valve along with installing that catch can wouldn't hurt, either. i plan to keep my car indefinitely, so i don't care to all of this work a 2nd time in a short time because of a leaking tube seal. thanx again for your very good video
One of my spark plug tube is leaking all bad smh,I didnt even know this.
that blows, you will need new valve covers to fix it since you can replace the spark plug tube seals 😓
