- In this video I will show you how to diagnose and replace a failed passenger side camshaft position sensor. The part is cheap and the labor, while a little tricky due the the parts location on the back of the engine, isn't too bad and should be able to be accomplished within a half hour.
Bank 1 Cam Position Sensor: www.rockauto.c...
Hey, I am having a really hard time fitting a wrench or socket onto that 10mm bolt to get it loose… do you have any tips on how I can get at it a bit easier ? maybe some penetrating oil. im not sure. thanks !
It really should not be on that tight. I got to it with a 1/4 inch ratchet and deep 1/4 10mm socket if I remember correctly. Maybe a universal joint will help?
Hey bud, just want to say thank you so much for this video. They wanted to charge me anywhere from $529 to $729. ouch!. Just bought me my part online and did it my self. Had to buy that universal joint. Was worth every penny.
That is an outrageous price. It's really quite easy to do. Glad I could help.
Thanks man. I was driving and the car just shut off. All of those light were on that you described in the video. I disconnected the positive post on the battery and everything reset. Then a day later it did a little bit of a jerk on the interstate and loss acceleration for a sec. I took it easy the rest of the way home. The sensor is like $20 so will probably just go ahead and change it.
the only code I could find originally was pointing me between the positive post of the battery to the compressor. Strange.
My pleasure.
Thanks so much man. This caused my vdc light to come on and hard starts, literally went to autozone at 8pm and got it and it’s back to normal.
Glad it worked out for you.
Thank you for this video. Very detailed instructions. Crazy how a tiny thing like a sensor can screw up your whole car. +1
My pleasure.
JR's Garage I just came inside after trying to get that damn bolt off for 2 hours. I’m thinking I need a longer wrench, because it seemed impossible to hook it and be able to turn. Any suggestions? Lol
@@chaselucas3057 I don't remember needing a very long extension. Sometimes a 1/4 inch drive with a small extension is easier to get into the tight spaces than a long extension on a 3/8ths drive. I do remember having to lay across the top of the engine to reach it.
this video really helped, thanks man!
My pleasure.
Just finished replacing the sensor. This was a very good video.
Thank you.
Replaced the sensor and the connector and it still has a hard start
Is it still throwing the same code?
Worthy of mentioning, only replace these camshaft sensors with Hitachi brand or Nissan/ Infiniti brand. All other brands do not last. Hitachi makes them for Nissan/ Infiniti by the way so in essence you are buying Nissan/ Infiniti when you buy Hitachi. The one thing is Hitachi is the original design of the sensor, the new Nissan/ Infiniti is metal so when buying Hitachi you are buying the first release of the sensor which should be good for about 100k miles.
Thanks for the info. So far the Beck/Arnley I purchased has worked great... 20k miles so far.
Thanks for the video you show everything in detail unlike other videos that only shows guys face explaining how to do it. This is how a video should be made so thanks again
My pleasure, glad it helped.
My pleasure, glad it helped.
I have been running my car now for about a month with this problem because I had no idea wtf problem was! Buddy of mine mentioned this sensor and here I am. Ordered the part from a link in a different video which comes today. Hope to God this fixes the problem. All the lights are the same except sometimes, like 3 times within this month it stalled on me at stop lights. Can you imagine how embarrassing it is to have 20 people next to you as you try to start the damn thing? I'm 98% sure this is the problem. Already cleaned my MAF sensor, changed the air filter just in case, replaced the fuel pump, and now if this doesn't fix it I will take it to a mechanic cause I'm sick of this. We'll see.
Sounds like the sensor is the right fix for your problem.
I think out of 30 plus videos that I finally found one "this video" that actually helped me to get on the right track! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the comment. Happy it helped.
I absolutely second that. No other video I saw actually shows you got to unlatch that stupid connector! I was dying!
"It should be fairly easy, u dont have to take anything out the car..."
Not me with EVERYTHING taken off because i didnt know about the bolt.
Ugh!🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Not easy to reach, but it is possible.
Wassup buddy my car does the same thing but I don't have any codes is it because camshaft sensor is starting to go bad ? Should I buy both sensors or just bank 1 ?? Please help thanks ! I have 04 Infiniti g35x
I bought both sensors thinking the drivers side would go soon after the passenger. They are pretty cheap so I'd just replace both and then see if that solves your problem.
Thanks a lot for this DIY video. My 2004 Infiniti g35 stalled with fault code P0335 which is bank1 camshaft sensor. This video was great in showing me how to replace the sensor. I was able to do it but getting the bolt out and especially putting back the bolt was kind of tough as there isn’t much room work with. I got the sensor from 1A Auto for $34 for both bank1 and bank2 sensors. I replaced only bank1 (passenger side). It is working now but based on the posts I read, looks like it will crap out in few months. I will then order Hitachi one to replace. Thanks again for the great DIY video!!
My pleasure, glad it helped.
Supporting your channel, thanks for sharing!!!
My pleasure.
Need your help. I went to mechanic to get the passenger side camshaft sensor replaced. The green thing to connect with the sensor doesn’t make the CLICK sound it doesn’t attach right. He tried putting some adhesive but it didn’t work and the green thing that connects to the sensor doesn’t attach fully it keeps slowing sliding off of it. What can I do to make it stop sliding off ? Or what can I do to make it click ? Get a new green thing?
I've had some luck using zip ties to keep some of my electrical connectors on that are broken. But it would be hard behind the engine to get it tight enough to stay on. Your best bet would be to go to a junkyard and cut one off of a different car and then splice the wires.
dude. it was literally 9 at night here in ny when just saw this vid. i went to auto zone (who close at 10) got the part and fixed it! great video!
Excellent, happy to help.
How is it holding up? A lot of folks online say get OEM and not aftermarket. I have to do this tomorrow and want to know if your Aurozone part failed or is still good
Not sure about the AutoZone one but the Rock Auto part I got, link in description, has been working great.
Mike T so the autozone sensor did indeed fail after about 2 months. I replaced it with an oem sensor from Nissan and it was good until I sold her.
@@JRsGarage I got the Hitachi brand model CPS0008 after confirming its the actual OEM sensor Nissan used for our cars! Autozone had one for $59.99 much better than the $140-160 quotes I got from a few different Nissan dealers.
Installed the sensor this morning after watching your video JR.
Thank you so much.
Here's my thread I wrote up on G35driver

Very helpful thank you
Good old “righty tighty, lefty loosey”. Never fails.
Never does.
Excellent about the green click to pushed down notbady said that
Happy to help.
I replaced mine but I'm still having the same issues.
What about when you scan the codes? Does the one you replaced still show bad?
Thank you. having this issue now! replaced the starter before running codes but that was my negligence 😆
Good luck.
Hey there guys! I have an 07 FX 35 and 2 months ago I got same problem. VDC OFF light came on as well as SLIP and SES light. I have changed it with a new sensor (not an original one) just random brand for like around $50. 2 months later the same problem happened. I got same lights and p0340 again. A lot of reading and I got to the point that this sensor got bad as it was not that expensive. I got a brand new one, replaced it and a week later same thing. I am desperate I do not have a mechanic that can tell me what is wrong. Perhaps doing a ECU reset. I would appreciate any comments that you can share.
I would say clear the codes and if it immediately comes back then you might just be really unlucky and got 2 bad parts, return to where you got it. If it stays away for a week or so and then comes back you probably have something else wrong and we've exhausted the extent of my knowledge.
I changed both sensors and the passenger side sensor is 10x more difficult than the driver side. It's just so tight with that wire harness in the way, took me forever to get the bolt back in.
The driver side is easy if you do it from the passenger side. Do NOT remove the intake and throttle body, just lean across the engine from the passenger side and do it by feel with your left hand and a 10mm wrench. Yes, it's a blind job, but very easy to do by feel...Just feel around for the sensor's plug and the 10mm bolt with your hand and break it lose with a wrench. Removing the intake and throttle body is a waste of time.
Thanks for the comment.
Where did you guys get the part? We brought the part from the dealership, auto zone and none of them have fit into my 2003 G35 sedan. I don't know what to do anymore
The rockauto.com link in the description will take you to the exact part I installed.
your link is the one for the right, my code came up "p0340 camshaft position sensor bank 1" now I understand it's passenger so is your link for the right side?
Yes, bank 1 is the right side (when looking from the rear of the engine).
My 06 is pulling a p1078 code saying that it's the bank 1 camshaft sensor on my autel scanner. Is that the same issue as this since the codes are different?
Not familiar with that code but there may be more than one code regarding that sensor to identify different problems.
Just now changed the sensor and still the same problem and my scanner says crank shaft sensor a circuit. Any idea why?would be much appreciated thanks
I've heard people have issues with some aftermarket brands being faulty. Might want to try Hitachi brand model CPS0008 which I've heard is the actual OEM sensor Nissan used for our cars. Autozone might carry it.
Is there an OBD2 reader and app you would recommend for an iPhone? The same lights you describe in your video came on today as my car came to a halt while driving. It was able to start up. But this is the 2nd time in 6 months this has occurred. I took a look at the camshaft sensor in my Infiniti 2005 G35 and there is a melted silver substance on the green plastic. Appreciate your help. This was a very helpful video. I just subscribed.
I use torque as my app on Android. I'm not a iPhone guy so I'm not sure what the best app might be for Apple. The reader would probably have to say it works with Apple products so I'm not sure what model to buy. Amazon reviews might help you out.
You rock Mr, thank you very much very helpful video.👍👍👍
My pleasure.
Changed both of them and the starter fucker will still no turn on.
Do you have a code reader? Do you have any other codes showing up?
@@JRsGarage no codes popping up. I found out it might be my keyless FOB so I ordered two. I couldn't take off the alarm so Idk if it starts but I did need to change all the sensors and starter had a ripped wire. But I am basically doing a rebuild is my thang.
@@911Estyle Did you ever fix this issue with your camshaft?
I changed both sensors and vdc lights didn’t go off. Car died 3 weeks after I changed the sensors.
Perhaps your problem is the actual VDC or the ECU.
My car randomly shut up while coming into a stop would it be a cam sensor?
It could be, that's one of the symptoms I had. Take it to AutoZone or another parts store and have them check the codes.
@@JRsGarage I did and got codes p0420 & p1283
P0420 is cat system below threshold
P1283 injector pressure regulator or fuel damper I believe
@@JRsGarage also had 34miles in the tank since I was just taking it around the block it turned off and it read 56miles so I’m kinda confused
@@OM4Rx could be a vacuum leak causing the car to run lean or a bad O2 sensor.
@@JRsGarage it’s definitely my sensors! My puppies chewed them up but I took it to the mechanic and they spliced my wires up since they weren’t fully chewed but I’m pretty sure my dogs messed them up for sure
Would codes p0300 and p0011 be thrown due to a bad camshaft position sensor?
Yes, it is possible that those things are all related.
i need some help my car today and it noticed the lights came on same with all the lights everybody else and it shifted real hard and started running like ass and cut off and wouldnt start but i let it sit for a minute and started back up would this be the problem ?
Sounds like it could be. Take it to a parts store and have the codes read.
JR's Garage I read one of the codes and it did say it was the p0340 code but i didnt see the oother code im going to just replace both sensors tomorrow
what key did you use brother
Key? Could you please be more specific? I made this video many years ago.
My car has a slight misfire, it starts up fine but it’s throwing the code for camshaft position sensor. I believe it just isn’t working properly like it is going to go bad soon. Any thoughts?
If its throwing the sensor code just change it out. It's cheap and easy to do.
Thank you very helpful.
Can you help me about the code P0081 Infiniti G35. My car is going very slowly even I hit the gas 40-50. Can’t really drive only going slowly. I replaced IVT Control Solenoid valve bank 2 . Still the same. Please any help.
Did the code go away after replacing the solenoid? If the code went away and you still have driving problems I would take it to a mechanic.
JR's Garage yes the code go away. Thank you for the feedback. I will take to mechanic. Thank you .
sound like you got a transmission sensor issue you got a sensor issue that controls speed speed sensor you got some kind of sensor issue
So how did u get the service engine light to reset....was the Bluetooth still plugged in.....
Yes, I reset it with the Bluetooth app.
Hey JR, I recently got a P0011 code for what I believe to be the camshaft position sensor but everyone is also saying that it could he solenoids. Any advice?
Does the car idle erratically or drive different? Are you also getting a code P0340? Did you recently change the engine oil with a non-recommended viscosity?
That bolt is a pain in the
Sure is.
Took it to the electricians to get diagnosed, it was a camshaft sensors, I replaced it and it still doesn't start and it doesn't give off any codes
I have a feeling the electricians got butt hurt and fucked with something in my car because I didn't accept the 450 charge😕
That's crazy that he wanted 450 to do the job. Tough to diagnose if it's not throwing any codes.
thank you good video
My pleasure.
Mine has 02 sensor pulling up and Cam shaft position sensor. Exact issues thanks alot.
Good luck with the O2 sensor. Hopefully it's not rusted in there.
@@JRsGarage changed it out just used some wd40
dude thank you mind went just yesterday when I was driving. The car shift hard then all those lights came on lol. I have the same code it says Bank 1 single sensor. I will order it online. thanks for the video
My pleasure.

My car is throwing p0022 what do i need to replace is it this ?
I have a 2013 g37 with the same issue and same code for the bank 1 cam sensor. Where is it located. Is it the same as yours?
I'm not too familiar with the G37's but according to this website it appears that on the G37 the cam sensors are on the front of the engine on the sides of the timing chain cover. They should look nearly the same though. parts.infinitiusa.com/nissanparts/?action=replacement&groupid=D§ionid=221&jointvehid=17694&siteid=15##
I have replaced the bank sensor and still have the same problems with the same codes. Should I replace bank 2? Thanks
Have you cleared the codes and they returned?
Worked great... saved me money. Thanks so much for this.
Happy to help.
I was able to get the bolt out by sticking my 3 inch extension in between the harness and then taking it out by hand haha, great video!
Glad it helped.
Mine won’t clip in, it was loose help me
Your sensor? It should be held in with one bolt. If your talking about the electrical connector it may be broken....you'll need to have it replaced or find a way to zip tie it in place so it doesn't lose connection.
JR's Garage yes I’m talking about the green connector I realized it when I was able to pull the sensor loose even with bolt on
So the sensor itself comes out by pulling on the electrical connector even though it's bolted on? Are the bolt threads stripped?
Thanks for the video my g35 05 just threw codes p0300 and p0011 for random misfire and the intake camshaft position timing over advanced bank 1
Any ideas ?
UA-cam never informed me that this comment was waiting for a reply, sorry for not responding quickly. I'm not really sure about those specific codes, sorry. Did the problem persist? Sometimes the ECU can throw codes but it may be a momentary thing and they never come back.
I replaced mine today and the code was gone for a while but after the next start up it came back any suggestions?
Possible the electrical connection is loose, the sensor is not seated fully or maybe you just got a bad unit?
I used a non-OEM sensor and it is still working just fine.
So amazing. You saved me $260. Subscribed
Thank you. Happy to help.
Does the battery need to be disconnected at all? I saw another video where they were changing Bank 2 and they disconnected the battery. Is this necessary?
I don't think I remember disconnecting the battery. If I can find the shop manual I'll see what it says.
JR's Garage thank you so much that would be Greatly appreciated
Couldn't see anything about disconnecting the battery before replacing the sensor.
does anyone have the part number for oem bank 1 cam position sensor?
Kevin Fast 23131-6J90B
where to i buy that Bluetooth box thing at and that tork app
Look on Amazon or eBay for a Bluetooth OBDii reader. The Torx app is in the android store.
I had exact same symptoms but I also got smoke coming from engine, is that normal with bad cam position sensor ?
Was it coming out the exhaust or from inside the engine bay?
@@JRsGarage it came from engine bay
No bad sensor that I'm aware of should cause smoke to come out of engine bay. Sounds like some other problem.
I've replaced the bank 1 sensor but the VDC Off and SLIP lights are still on. It fired up just fine but I can't get the lights off.
I have a 2004 G35 Sedan. I feel a loss of power during acceleration. Should I replace the bank 2 sensor as well as the crankshaft sensor? The AT light flashes a few times when I start the car as well.
Any advice?
What engine code are you getting? Did you reset the check engine light after performing the sensor change?
JR's Garage P0340. I don't have a device to reset the check engine light, so I'll head to Auto Zone and get them to clear it. I'll get another code print out because I'm sure it said something about the Brake Solenoid or something like that. I don't have the original printout they have me before.
Yes, clearing the codes will need to be done. You may have to drive it for a while afterward for whatever code remains to reappear.
Yes replace all 3! But before you do disconnect the battery.
I replaced bank 1 on infiniti m35 with genuine Nissan part from amazon. Car starts instantly now instead of few seconds. But now I get smoke and smell from tailpipe. Also, there is noticeable oil underneath the sensor, but i never had smoke prior to replacing sensor.
Sounds like the gasket on the sensor might not have sealed properly when you tightened it down. Try removing and replacing it to make sure it is seated properly.
JR's Garage makes sense.
The bolt is on tight and I thought the sensor was snug. How would I know when gasket is properly in place before starting the car again?
If I remember correctly, the sensor has a gasket already installed that seats in place when you bolt it in. As long as it went in straight it should be good but if it went in crooked it might feel tight but still leak. The only way you will know is to remove it and then re-install it making sure it goes in straight.
JR's Garage
It was a defective sensor shipped and sold by amazon.
I got one from infiniti dealer today and worked like a charm no smoke
Wow, that's unusual, but I guess it happens. Good to hear you figured it out. Thanks for the info - good to know.
i have the same code, but my car will shut off randomly when im stopped at a red light, is this CPS part of that problem?
Possibly. I've never heard of it causing your particular problem but it's possible. If it's giving you the right code the first thing to try would be to replace the CPS.
yeah I took it to autozone tonight and its the same exact problem with CPS on Bank 1 I literally bought the g35 today and didn't have any issues on the way home only when later on through the day
and also my ac is stuck on, my center console buttons don't work at all, ive checked all my fuses and relays but none of them work, i can only change my radio from my wheel and there is a loud ticking noise coming from my passanger dash (Behind) that just continues to go on and on the whole time i drive. know anything about that?
The heater and radio controls are all connected to one circuit board behind the plastic of the center stack. Something may have gone wrong with that circuit board which is causing the buttons to all fail but the actual radio works you just can't control it except from the steering wheel. There is no other controls for the heater/AC so that will be stuck wherever it was last set.
Awesome vid bud.im deffintly subscribing.
Thanks for subscribing.
Is that left or right side?
It's annotated in the video description. It's the passenger side.
Uhh that one is bank 2 bro
Passenger side is Bank One, "right bank", with cylinder 1, 3,5.
Would it cause intermittent stalling
Could, but there are many other possibilities as well.
@@JRsGarage ended up being the cam sensor lol thank you for replying love you're infiniti videos
Great vid, How about the other side? I head that you have to remove the entire manifold to get to it?
Sorry, haven't done that side so I'm not sure.
For the other side you pretty much have to remove the your intake tube after the air filter box and remove the throttle body to get access to the sensor and bolt. For a g35 or 350z code p0340 is your passenger side sensor and po345 is your drivers sensor. Code po335 is your crankshaft sensor which is best to get at under car accessed just above the second left side plastic undertray panel.
Thanks for the info.
Very helpful!
Happy to help.
My clip keeps coming off
The clip holding the electrical connection in place? It it's broken you may have to do some magic with a few zip ties to get it to stay connected.
What about a 2008?
I'm not sure about the 2008 version.
is this the same with code “camshaft position timing”
I can't give you a good answer o. That question. Sounds to me like that would be a different problem than the sensor going bad but it might solve your problem to change the sensor. Since it is a fairly cheap part it is worth a try.
Bro! We’re you able to fix this problem??
Ghyslain NSofor yep , I did a oil change and it went away. but it came back like 2-3 months after it and I just had them replace the camshaft sensors.
Ghyslain NSofor & it completely went away
Thank you
My pleasure.
Thanks doc
My pleasure.
Can that problem show po300
Sorry I'm not sure about that.
JR's Garage did your car lost power?
I do not remember that being a symptom.
JR's Garage yes it lost power
I just replaced mine today. Saved a ton from a shop or dealership and now I know how to do it again if needed.
Most likely it will fail again in the future. Parts quality isn't as good as it used to be.
Great vid man!
Thank you.
Wheres bank 2 sensor?
Near the throttle body, just below on the back of the engine.
@@JRsGarage what do i have to remove th replace the bank 2 sensor
@@ferndoggx4152 I haven't had to replace that one yet but I would think if you take off the intake tube it may provide better access. If you can't get to it that way then you may have to remove the intake plenum... I'm not sure. There's a green electrical connection on it and it will be held in by a 10mm bolt.
where did you get the phone app
It's called Torque.
so I changed that senor it started up good shifted then went back to slip and slow do you think I have to change bank 2 also and would you have a video showing where bank 2 is located ?@@JRsGarage
Possible you need to change bank 2, I'm not sure. It is located behind the throttle body, green connection.
Is it the green connect close to the one I changed ?
Kinda close. They are both on the back of the engine. Behind and below the throttle body. I think it's the only other green connection.
Is there a different code for each sensor? If not how can i tell which to switch or would you recommend switching both? Just had these lights turn on last night and it froze my car up. Luckily i was in a parking lot and not a highway.
P0340 is bank one and I think P0345 is bank 2.
Wheres the second sensor?
On the back just below the driver's side valve cover.
Do you think it's the cam sensor if i have no spark in any cylinder?
Sorry, I'm not sure about that issue. Since each cylinder has an individual coil pack it would seem logical that some sensor might be messing up the whole system. Is it throwing any codes?
@@JRsGarage actually i changed the battery so it's been wiped out sadly... But when i didn't change it yet i had 2 or 3 codes like P0340 for catalyst system below threshold, and for the o2 sensor. Other code i remember was for egr valve
Not sure I can help you with that. Probably needs to be seen by a professional.
@@JRsGarage okay thanks for the help
Dude you saved me man. I could not for the life of me figure out how to get that damn latch off. ❤🙏

Thank you for the little details! I knew where the sensor was and got the bolt off and the sensor out but could not unclip it!! Your video was the only one showing how to unclip it from the green connector!! Thanks again!!
Excellent, glad to help. I like taking my time and showing the whole process.
