You are the man… worked beautifully… save around $300 in labor. Can’t thank you enough….😊
Awesome! Glad to help👍
That was so complete and so easy. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Your welcome! Hope it helps you out. 👍
This video and the comments helped me a lot. Thank y’all 🙏🏾
You have no idea the amount of money that you have saved me. Thank you 🙏🏼
You’re welcome that’s why I do it. Tell your friends. 😁👍
I have told several friends
Well I did both front and back and this video helped a lot for the back . Fast and simple
Hey Andy! Really an informative video. Thanks for it. As I’m doing this job myself for the first time and wanted to confirm torque on those bolts for bracket and calliper.
Brake bracket- 75 ft-lbs and calliper bolts- 24 ft-lbs
On my 2015 the rear caliper froze up at about 90K miles and needed to be replaced. Also at about 120K one of the slide pins froze up I had to use a 5lb hammer and pound it about 30 times to get it out. You should check the slide pins grease every year. Also if you are cleaning out the bracket where the slide pins go into remove the rubber boot first. I didn't and put it in a parts washer and it grew to twice its normal size due to the solvent.
Not just a man but an artist
Thank you! 🙂
Thank you’d, that was so helpful! Great presentation as well.
Your welcome! 👍
8:44 pads were a huge pita to get back into the brackets. Took me a few tries, kept popping back out!
Yeah he just kinda skipped the hardest part in this video 😅
Nice job! Thanks Andy!
Your welcome!
Thanks for sharing - great info and video~
Thank you! Great job!
Your welcome! Thanks!
Nicely explained, good video!
Thanks 👍
This really help me great video .
thank you for this video, very helpful
Your welcome! 👍
Great video. Very helpful. Thank you.
Your welcome! 👍
thanks for tutorial. is the car that stinky there needs to be 5 air fresheners in the center vents? lots of [dead] skunks in the area? how often is the cabin filter changed? Just curious....
I just changed the rear brakes on my Mazda cx5 I didn’t know bout the maintenance mode and I drove it and everything feels fine and no dash light came on should how would I know if I messed up the caliper
Does torqueing to spec just mean yank it as hard as you can?
Same procedure for parking brake for a 2019?
very well done thank you
Your welcome! 👍
Last time i replaced the acuator without put the vehicle to maintenance mode, since that time each time i pull the Ebrake it always show the yellow P light blinking. The scan tool says the acuator disengage. Does that means i ruined my acuator?
Hi Andy
We just carried out a replacement rear pad change with your procedure, (right hand drive) all good now. Did you forgot to mention to pump the pedal first?? Pistons spun (both red and orange lights flashing) until we pumped up the brakes and redid the service on then off. Thanks for the video 👍
I didn’t have to on this one. I did it exactly how I showed. Sorry maybe because it was right hand drive.
Great video
Thank you! 👍
Thank you
Your welcome! 👍
Awesome u just save some $$$ thank you 🙏
Your welcome! 👍
Thanks! makes my next job simpler. What are the torque specs for the caliper & pad housing?
Rear caliper is 22 ft/lbs the bracket is 75 ft/lbs 👍
@@AndyTheXTech thanks! Just having a post brake job beer!
Thanks a lot for the comprehensive guide.
Just two questions:
1- do you have any suggestion for brand of pads and rotor and from to buy them in Canada?
2- is the procedure the same for AWD?
You’re welcome! As far as the brand goes, it’s all preference. Normally just a higher quality ceramic brake pad will do. (Raybestos)
And yes, this vehicle was an all wheel drive, but it should be the same either way . 👍
very thanks
Your welcome
Okay I’ve seen these coated brake rotors, but I’m curious how these compare to painted brake rotors. Any reason in particular the coated rotors were chosen?
Well everything is going to rust eventually. The only reason we went with these price was good.
@@AndyTheXTech okay, much appreciated.
The reason I asked was because I wasn’t sure why my calipers look dingy, even though, when I bought the car new, the calipers were coated.
Wasn’t sure if they wore out like paint but looks like they have similar properties
I would put the disc brake quiet on the hardware where the pads sit as well, they can squeak from that area if not done.
Hey bro quick question? Are TRQ struts good quality for the money? Will they last atleast a year?
I think there good. And I think they warranty them for at least a year.
I have a 2016 CX-5 that falls into that rear-caliper/EPB module fiasco TSB (R052/16C). We do have brake pulsation, especially at higher speeds when braking, and the pads on the rear are in need of replacement according to a Mazda tech. Could we need the updated rear calipers from the TSB along with pads and rotors? How do you determine if the rotors in the front or the rear need replacement?
if you replace the pads you should replace the rotors. some times if you feel the pulsation/vibration in the steering wheel then its coming from the front and if you feel it in the seat its from the rear.
@@AndyTheXTech how should I determine if the rear calipers are dragging stated in that TSB? It sounds like the way thought it was the EPB module for a while but turns out the rear calipers are the culprit. If one pad on each caliper is worn more than the other?
@@on1ytheb3st you could try with the wheels off the ground, pump the brake pedal a couple times then get out and try to turn the wheels. If there binding up or stuck then there is something causing it at that wheel.
@@AndyTheXTech Its apparently the EPB actuator on the rear calipers that causes the dragging. Creates a situation when you deactivate the parking brake, the pressure from the actuator isn't relieved completely. I guess I'll lift the rear and actuate the parking brake, then deactivate it and see if I can spin the wheels.
They should spin completely freely right? Do I need both rear wheels to be off the ground to see if the rear wheel spins freely?
@@on1ytheb3st temperature and pad thickness difference. If the pads are dragging, there will be a greater increase in temperature compared to non-dragging pads. 2nd, a dragging pad (stuck slide pins), one of the pads will be thinner than the other. Pads are supplied to wear evenly (equal pressure), but if the caliper is stuck then one pad (inner) could be thinner than the other.
Do you need the ebp released for front and rear brakes and rotors?
No only rear
For the EPB how come some people twist and push the piston back
On that car you should twist/turn, not push back only. You can see because the piston is not flat and has markings for it.
Just did my brakes and only had to push the start button 3 times 😐
At 2:20, you said let go. Are you also releasing the gas pedal?
Yes, after the switch soon after lift your foot off the gas
It's very important to put the car into maintenance mode before service or you will turn a 30' job into 5hr one.
Yup 👍
Interesting that the maintenance mode is push 5 times the engine button, because on my 2017 (2016 body) it's 3 times.
These EPB's are really fragile, really eat up my pads and discs even. Also since i've done the pads a few times sometimes i need to drive the car a bit before the maintenance mode can be turned off again. Otherwise it give's me an error.
Ya I’ve heard others say the same about the error message. I wonder if it havens on older vehicles because of the calipers need to be replaced.
I didn’t put it in maintenance mode and still changed the brakes is this a problem?
For the rears its a huge problem, put the car in maintenance mode.
What’s the 19 mm open end wrench on the caliper bolts while you were tightening with the socket? Purpose?
He was holding the nut from spinning that mounts the caliper to the caliper bracket where the caliper slide pins are . Hopefully that was a good description.
Otherwise it will spin
I think you should rotate the piston instead of just pressing it in?
In service mode, the piston can simply be pressed inward...no need to rotate it.
I have 3 questions for u:
1. This procedure is the same for ALL Mazda electric e-brake?
2. Can I use the C -clamp rather than took you use?
3. Is it necessary to do those step you showed us, or is there a way we can skip ?
Not sure about about other Mazdas.
Clamp should work but be careful not the brake the motor on the back of the caliper.
If it wasn’t necessary I wouldn’t show it.
CAN YOU SHOW torque specs on the caliper bolts please @@AndyTheXTech
I was going to use a c clamp until I realized the electronic parking brake cover was plastic, meaning I wasn't sure it could handle the c clamp's force and didn't want to break it, so I went to local parts store and borrowed the tool he uses in this video for free (as long as you return it).
What year is this CX5?
2017 it’s in the description
@@AndyTheXTech Ahhhh damn didn't see it. I have a 2018 Touring CX5. Process still the same for that year?
The coated rotors and brakes need to be bedded in as well.
I love the torque to spec but i see no torque wrench
Master tech torque 😂
why say "torque to spec" without mentioning what the torque # is?
If anyone is having trouble re-engaging the parking brake, press the button in sequence with the flashing on the parking brake button. Probably spent 5 minutes messing with it before trying that
Thanks, this one worked but I’m sure it could give some people trouble.
Im squealing. It's time.
