The guitar player is Roget Hodgson. He is the lead singer with the high falsetto voice you like. Roger Davies on keyboard is the lead on this song with the deeper gritty voice. There were five members of the band. Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards, and guitars), Rick Davies (vocals and keyboards), Dougie Thomson (bassist), Bob Siebenberg (drummer) and John Helliwell (saxophonist)
The drummer for this band was my high school baseball coach, Bob Siebenberg, and he talked about their tours and the stuff they got to experience. Pretty wild 😂
I mean, Supertramp had several top 10 albums including a number one, and a handful of top 40 hits (prog rock bands don't usually have much singles success). ELO had five top 10 albums, seven top 10 singles and 20 top 40 singles. I don't think either were THAT underappreciated, compared to some bands that people have never heard of
I was usually disappointed with the radio play of "Goodbye Stranger" because the stations usually cut out the guitar solo which is surely one of the most delicious solos of all time.
I absolutely love that solo!! I agree, it is so perfectly thought out and played! Beautifully melodic parts that moved so smoothly over the chords! Just goes to show how guitar solos don't always have to be a zillion notes to be great.
The guitarist invents Primus, The Prodigy, and House music all once...right here...in this solo. Amazing. Madonna even uses this effect on Ray of Light...that's how good it is.
I don't consider an album collection complete without 'Breakfast In America'... It is one of those pivotal pop records that defined an era. I also feel the same about ELO's 'Out Of The Blue'
Supertramp's greatest attribute is without doubt their exceptional talent in 'musical arrangement'. The entry and disappearance of different instruments throughout their pieces to instigate a particular dramatic effect is nothing short of genius. They are individually quite talented with their own instruments of choice, but it is the total conception of what they want to present which is magical and extremely entertaining for the listener. God bless you Supertramp..
Most people don't notice it but if you look at this album cover in the mirror, you'll see that above the Twin Towers it says 911,this album came out in the 70's ✌
Breakfast in America was the very first album I ever purchased on my musical journey, way back in 1979 as a 16 year old, and it remains a feast of incredible music and still remains in my album collection over 40 years later
I was 23 in 79 so I can appreciate your sentiment. Even in the quitest moments was my first. I was living in Germany at the time in the military and discovering all of these groups.
Back in 1977, when I was a senior in high school, I was stood up by a girl (for a high school dance) and walked along the Lake Michigan shoreline dressed in a brand new suit, weeping my eyes out. Tired of feeling sorry for myself, i remembered that someone I knew lived nearby and had friends over for a small party. I decided to go there, despite my puffy eyes. For some reason the memory of stepping into that friend's house always stuck in my mind: She had Supertramp playing on her stereo, and the song was "Give a Little Bit." The combination of the music and being with good friends actually wiped the memory of being stood up out of my mind, and I managed to have a great time. 😀
I hope the girl that stood you up wound up with a scorpion in her bra and panties...or something similar. I graduated in '76, by the way. As I recall we were all "stud to the max".
I just LOVE the way that Supertramp uses crescendo in their songs. They start out soft and slow and in this case, they snowball into one of my all-time favorite guitar solos at the end. If you can find a good recording of "Even in the Quietest Moments" (thanks, Roger...geez, Dude, let us here your genius), it is one of my favorite songs by anybody.
There are five band members in Supertramp. I'm so happy you love them, Amber. They have been my favourite group for almost 50 years, with ELO close behind. Goodbye Stranger was a massive hit for them and is from the Breakfast in America album. As great as the entire LP is, in my opinion it may be only their third or fourth-best album - that's how amazing their albums were in the 1970s. As much as they are loved and admired by many they are still vastly underrated in the history of rock/pop music. It is a total travesty that they are still not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They have their own sound. The musicianship is top rate and the lyrics from Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson range from happy to very bleak and dark. They have a lot of social commentary in their words especially from their all-time classic album Crime of the Century, my favourite LP ever. They use saxophone, electric piano, clarinet and harmonica in such beautiful ways. Please react to a lot more Supertramp, and not just from Breakfast in America, their most successful album commercially. Every song on Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments and Famous Last Words is either great or worth listening to at the very least.
@@G-BUD_Budlong I have the original records for ELO and Supertramp too. In the case of Supertramp, I spent more than double the going rate for an album back in the early to mid-1980s and bought the specially pressed, half-speed mastered discs called the Audiophile series. They were CD quality records before CDs came out or as the Compact Disc format was just becoming popular. They look and sound great still, 40 years later.
Couldn't be more thrilled to here you are "obsessed" with Supertramp, you get an A++ for your music appreciation skills! Listen to "School" next If you want to take your next Supertramp journey
First of all, I love you two! I was in the Army, mid 70s, in the middle of Germany, with nothing to do. No tv to watch and nothing to fill off time with. I got a kick ass stereo for my dorm room, and Supertramp was one of my favorites to crank up. Listening to their songs is like riding an audio rollercoaster. Absolutely love your reactions!
Great reaction. It’s a pleasure to see young folks not only liking this song, but to give an intelligent and well articulated description as to what you like about the song and the band. You have a new subscriber.
"School" is my all-time favorite Supertramp song. The entire "Crime of the Century" album is a masterpiece. What a great band to be obsessed with. The 70's was a great time to grow up music-wise. Welcome to my (our) world!
Among my large album collection back in college I splurged for two master pressed LPs - Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Supertramp's "Crime of the Century". Cranking the amp to 10 for the harmonica, scream and piano in "School" is a fond memory.
Being the youngest sibling and cousin paid off by the time I discovered the music that “spoke” to me. :) I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had absorbed all the bands and musicians they all listened too when I was little. I still remember my sister listening to this album with the volume cranked. :)
Another one of 'Most Underrated Bands' grouping! Great musicianship all round and the lyrics - well! "Now some they do and some they don't And some you just can't tell And some they will and some they won't With some it's just as well" Great to see your reactions to this well-loved band, keep doing it you two!
Amber is so right about the writing in Supertramp and the other bands she mentions. 70's prog and even prog-pop was cinematic and ambitious in terms of structure, story telling and range of texture and dynamics, to the benefit of the open-minded listener. It's so nice to see people still appreciate that.
My absolute favorite Supertramp song - cannot listen to this in the car without exceeding the speed limit and cranking the volume way up - awesome reaction!!
Amber, I've aways thought them as a very "clean" and sophisticated sounding band. Saw them 4 times and I promise you they sounded fantastic EVERY TIME!
My sister had this album when I was a kid but it didn't appreciate it till later in life. Another band I know you will like is Boston, "More Than a Feeling" will blow your mind. Thanks guys for your channel.
Give a little bit, Dreamer... such fun songs. you can't go wrong with this group, its one band whos songs are ALL bangers! I wish I could go back and listen to Supertramp for the first time again... Crime of the Century was another album full of winners!
Just discovered you two and you are great. Supertramp has been my favorite band since I discovered them in 1976. I have seen them live countless times and also seen Roger Hodgson, with the high-pitched voice, many times in his solo career. Keep it up you guys.
"Goodbye Stranger" and "Logical Song" were from the more commercial successful album "Breakfast in America" . Some of their earlier songs in their earlier career like "School", "Crime of the Century" and "Bloody Well Right" will delight you with the songwriting and textures.
“Nervous Wreck" and “Lord is it Mine on the B side of this album are just phenomenal, icing on the cake of such a great album. Wore this LP out my freshman year of high school.
Supertramp had two great singers and song writers. For sure we got to grow up with certain bands that had their own unique sound that you would recognize right away. God Bless from David in Detroit.
I’ve been into Supertramp since 1974... If they are not my favorite band, they are in the top 2... their music catalog is like blood for the heart !! Can Never get enough... will never get old !!
This is my favorite video of your reactions so far (and I watch them all). Amber looked like she was having a genuine blast with this song and Jay was really groovin with it. One of my favorite songs with two of my favorite UA-camrs.
Thanks for sharing! We Polynesians grew up on this music as most of us are first generation Americans and our parents came here during this era. My old man and his family moved to Hawaii from Tonga in '70 and this was all they knew along with reggae, mo town and disco. Me, my siblings and all my cousins grew up listening to this and it brings hella nostalgia. Especially this song. Always reminds me of Dad. He's my hero. Thanks again for sharing!!! Your Tongan friend from Utah 🤙🏾💯
That was the 70's for you, but the great compositions that took you on a journey, started in the mid to late 60's. So many different sounds were being born all the time. I'm so grateful I got to live through it and party my ass off on the dance floor. 💃💕🎼🎵🎶😎
I am a first time subscriber, and I am so blessed to watch your reaction. It is beyond amazement watching your reaction, however just imagine being able to grow up with this music in real time. I am 54, and this was a staple in my collection of great artists, along with Elton John, Rush, AC DC, Boston, Journey, and even the Carpenters. As the 80's fast approached I leaned more to my heavy metal, yet kept my portfolio of great artists very diverse. My first concert was 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. OZZY OSBOURNE Bark at the Moon Tour with opening act RATT. Just a little hint at the diversity of my music tastes are . Michael Jackson, The FiXX, Platinum Blonde, Thompson Twins, Joe Jackson, Jackson Browne, Vixen, Iron Maiden, RUN DC, Aero Smith, Metallica, Mega Death, STYX , ELO, and I can go on forever. God bless, and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Your energy is infectious. Merry Christmas, as well as GREAT HEALTH & PROSPERITY in 2022
Their Paris live album was awesome. The videos of the concert were found in 2006 and the entire concert was remastered as Supertramp Live in Paris '79.
I can't thank you enough for introducing Supertramp to a new generation. My brother had the album Crime of the Century. It has been my favorite album of all time! I bought the album, cassette, CD and yes, it is still at the top of my playlist. It warms my heart that you like them. I have often wondered if anyone else still appreciates them. Almost 50 yrs later, I can listen to them everyday. Thank you so much!! You Rock!
I just LOVE that ending guitar part! What drives me crazy is that DJs playing this song on the radio would cut out that last part as the song was "too long for the radio" ~ but I was dying to hear that last part, 'cause I think that was the BEST!
My dad used to play his classic rock albums on Sunday morning when I was a kid. I’m 20 now but I’ve grown to really love classic rock and it’s my second after hip hop. I can listen to this album all day. From dire straits, queen and especially supertramp, I wish I could go back and see those concerts live. Supertramp is definitely my favourite classic rock band. The voices of the lead singer just blend so well and they go from fast to slow and just so on point. “If everybody was listening” by supertramp is definitely my favourite song of theirs. Anyways im hitting that sub button!
That freaking ending
Fun fact: If you are driving on the open road playing this song, the guitar solo at the end will make your car speed up by 20 to 30 miles per hour.
I think I remember getting that ticket.
Yeah buddy.
😂Challenge accepted
Fact!
Sorry officer, I was playing Supertramp.
"Give a little bit", "Take the long way home", "Bloody well right", "Dreamer", "Logical song", "Breakfast in America". So many great songs.
All of the above, and more!!! ⬆️
They've done Take The Long Way Home and The Logical Song.
Rudy is another favourite as well as Hide in your shell.
Love them all
Great suggestions!
The detail and precision is just sick.
Love love Supertramp...and the founder main singer Roger Hodgson is still singing and the voice is still brilliant...
Amber is a star...her appreciation of nuances and key changes is perfect
It shows in her face!! SHE LOVES IT!!!!
Yes, she really listens and wants to know and understand what is being said.
Her analysis of musical form and composition is really spot on. Great critical thinking skills. Objective and honest. And she's fun to watch😂
The drummer for this band was my high school baseball coach, Bob Siebenberg, and he talked about their tours and the stuff they got to experience. Pretty wild 😂
The man has a passion for basketball sounds like
Supertramp and ELO are 2 of the most under appreciated bands of all time.
Only by those who have never listen to them.
I mean, Supertramp had several top 10 albums including a number one, and a handful of top 40 hits (prog rock bands don't usually have much singles success). ELO had five top 10 albums, seven top 10 singles and 20 top 40 singles. I don't think either were THAT underappreciated, compared to some bands that people have never heard of
I don't think they were. Music was great back then, and we listened and loved it all. :)
Yes I love them both
I am from Calgary Supertramp are Gods here
Roger Hodgson's guitar solo (outro) on Goodbye Stranger is surely up there with the best of all time. Pure musical genius.
I never realized Roger played lead guitar - I always thought he jusr sang lead vocals and played keyboards and rhythm guitar.
I was usually disappointed with the radio play of "Goodbye Stranger" because the stations usually cut out the guitar solo which is surely one of the most delicious solos of all time.
It's the perfect closing credits to a movie.
One of the most under rated guitar solos ever. Perfectly thought out and played.
I absolutely love that solo!! I agree, it is so perfectly thought out and played! Beautifully melodic parts that moved so smoothly over the chords!
Just goes to show how guitar solos don't always have to be a zillion notes to be great.
Most underrated band of all time. Definitely don’t get their due credit.
The guitarist invents Primus, The Prodigy, and House music all once...right here...in this solo. Amazing. Madonna even uses this effect on Ray of Light...that's how good it is.
Great, Academy Award level outro. Closing credits to a great movie.
The guitar solo is the best part of the song and most radio stations cut it off and I hate it! Grrrr!
I don't consider an album collection complete without 'Breakfast In America'... It is one of those pivotal pop records that defined an era. I also feel the same about ELO's 'Out Of The Blue'
awesome
The same with the Yes album 90125.
Your comment made me smile, thank you. Breakfast in America and Out of the Blue - we have the same taste.
Oh yes, Supertramp and Elo both ace!
And yes
Supertramp's greatest attribute is without doubt their exceptional talent in 'musical arrangement'. The entry and disappearance of different instruments throughout their pieces to instigate a particular dramatic effect is nothing short of genius. They are individually quite talented with their own instruments of choice, but it is the total conception of what they want to present which is magical and extremely entertaining for the listener. Well said
Hear hear!! 🔥💯
"Symphonic" is the word that comes to my mind when thinking of Supertramp. Their writing and composition are very intelligent.
Most people don't notice it but if you look at this album cover in the mirror, you'll see that above the Twin Towers it says 911,this album came out in the 70's ✌
Supertramp came on the scene with a new sound all their own. It was a breath of fresh air.
I was living in Germany at the time in the military and discovering all of these groups.
did you ever listen to playing the field by the outfield. Entire album excellent.
16 in 1979, also, my friend! 😁
As An African American "Supertramp" Was My Secret Pleasure For Years. My Heart Was 💔 When They Broke Up.
Composition, arrangement, odd time signatures, precision playing and production. This band has it all.
All y'all look like you're on a roller coaster ride and you can't see what's next, but you love the ride. Love your channel.
Back in 1977, when I was a senior in high school, I was stood up by a girl (for a high school dance) and walked along the Lake Michigan shoreline dressed in a brand new suit, weeping my eyes out. Objectively, music sucks compared to then.
I hope the girl that stood you up wound up with a scorpion in her bra and panties...or something similar.
I graduated in '76, by the way.
As I recall we were all "stud to the max".
And you stuck through it all and now here we are! :)
That's one of the BEST finales of a rock n roll song EVER. So glad you loved it!
"Even in the quietest moments" is one of their best. IMHO.
Yep! " the laughter brings me joy..."
Nothing to this day sounds like this record, it was that well written, performed and produced. A first class band.
Hah - I love that! Very much like a snowball being rolled down a big hill picking up more intensity and layers.
SUPERTRAMP SCHOOL. You will not be disappointed. What a crazy good song with great sound.

we love Supertramp with you ❤ keep 'm comming 👊
At 2:44 when Jay stops the video, you can see smoke coming out of Amber's ears. Boy, if looks could kill.
I grew up listening Supertramp, because of my dad. And I will always remember him and thank him for his incredible musical taste.
My Dad as well
Couldn't be more thrilled to here you are "obsessed" with Supertramp, you get an A++ for your music appreciation skills! Listen to "School" next If you want to take your next Supertramp journey
School School, School, School!!!!
I feel so fortunate to being old enough to have heard all this music in the 70's when it was first released.
One of the most joyous guitar solos ever recorded
First of all, I love you two! I was in the Army, mid 70s, in the middle of Germany, with nothing to do. No tv to watch and nothing to fill off time with. I got a kick ass stereo for my dorm room, and Supertramp was one of my favorites to crank up. Listening to their songs is like riding an audio rollercoaster. Absolutely love your reactions!
Great reaction. It’s a pleasure to see young folks not only liking this song, but to give an intelligent and well articulated description as to what you like about the song and the band. You have a new subscriber.
Supertramp: ‘Fool’s Overture’. This track is epic, like a mini rock opera.
Very Underrated group , This is my Fav. from them
Me to!
You both are definitely not alone in your love (obsession) of Supertramp. Hats off!
"It's Raining Again", great tune. Amber will love the sax in it.
I’ve seen the band three times live. This exactly how they sound in concert. No letdown. Incredible band.
Man that is so cool.
Supertramp had those albums that you could listen to over, and over, and over again. Another album to hear is Crime of the Century.
Crime of the Century is one of the best albums ever produced!!! Right On!
Even in the quietest of moments is my favorite Supertramp album.
keep goin you'll loooove Supertramp
"School" is my all-time favorite Supertramp song. The entire "Crime of the Century" album is a masterpiece. What a great band to be obsessed with. The 70's was a great time to grow up music-wise. Welcome to my (our) world!

Being the youngest sibling and cousin paid off by the time I discovered the music that “spoke” to me. :) I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had absorbed all the bands and musicians they all listened too when I was little.
I still remember my sister listening to this album with the volume cranked. :)
Cannonball!!! Fantastic tune and an incredible song to test your speakers, just like this one!! 😁✌
Another one of 'Most Underrated Bands' grouping! Great musicianship all round and the lyrics - well!
"Now some they do and some they don't
And some you just can't tell
And some they will and some they won't
With some it's just as well"
Great to see your reactions to this well-loved band, keep doing it you two!
Supertramp fills the ears
Amber is so right about the writing in Supertramp and the other bands she mentions. 70's prog and even prog-pop was cinematic and ambitious in terms of structure, story telling and range of texture and dynamics, to the benefit of the open-minded listener. It's so nice to see people still appreciate that.
I’ve been obsessed with Supertramp as well. I was a kid. But their sound was so unique and the musicianship…. Vocals. Icons.
not many bands that consistently give me goosebumps like supertramp. if i haven't heard them for a few weeks GOOSEBUMPS for sure.
My favourite band back in the 70s still love their music so multi layered. I'm glad you guys are checking them out and enjoying them.
My absolute favorite Supertramp song - cannot listen to this in the car without exceeding the speed limit and cranking the volume way up - awesome reaction!!
That’s ending guitar a bit is awesome and she is right it is something to be felt and heard
They are just out and out, pure talented musicians!
"It's Raining Again" is another great Supertramp song. Also a great video.
Nobody but nobody sounded quite like Supertramp...... from memory, there were 4 or 5 members of Supertramp. All were talented musicians....
what a band
This is my Favorite Super Tramp Song. The chorus perfectly ties it all together.
My favorite Supertramp song and my all-time favorite road song.
Amber, I've aways thought them as a very "clean" and sophisticated sounding band. Saw them 4 times and I promise you they sounded fantastic EVERY TIME!
"Rudy" by them. You will ABSOLUTELY love that one!
You two analyze songs amazing, don't need my help!😂.
My sister had this album when I was a kid but it didn't appreciate it till later in life. Another band I know you will like is Boston, "More Than a Feeling" will blow your mind. Thanks guys for your channel.
Look at your girl and know that all our girl's reacted that way back in the day!
Supertramp's arrangements are unlike any other band. Like Rush they are just so unique musically that they created their own "sound."
Give a little bit, Dreamer... such fun songs. you can't go wrong with this group, its one band whos songs are ALL bangers! I wish I could go back and listen to Supertramp for the first time again... Crime of the Century was another album full of winners!
I saw these guys live. Seemed like 10 guys on stage. And it sounded exactly like the album versions. Every little noise included.
Supertramp is one of those groups that flew under my radar. I think I don’t know any of their songs until I hear one and I instantly recognize it.
Saw them live years ago, in Vancouver, Canada and they sound just as incredible live as their recordings.
Some of their earlier songs in their earlier career like "School", "Crime of the Century" and "Bloody Well Right" will delight you with the songwriting and textures.
this album was just perfect!
“Nervous Wreck" and “Lord is it Mine on the B side of this album are just phenomenal, icing on the cake of such a great album. Wore this LP out my freshman year of high school.
Beautiful Song ❤ GREAT ALBUM 🔥
I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but "Child of Vision " is my favorite song by them
And a Big Hit in Europe too, „It’s Raining again“. Very Melancholy!
Supertramp had two great singers and song writers. For sure we got to grow up with certain bands that had their own unique sound that you would recognize right away. God Bless from David in Detroit.
Back from Christmas Vacation and saw this reaction, love Supertramp, what an unique band.
I’ve been into Supertramp since 1974... If they are not my favorite band, they are in the top 2... their music catalog is like blood for the heart !! Can Never get enough... will never get old !!
Child of vision, from the same album, is the best supertramp song imo, with School, from "Crime of the century" . Sure you love these
This is my favorite video of your reactions so far (and I watch them all). Amber looked like she was having a genuine blast with this song and Jay was really groovin with it. One of my favorite songs with two of my favorite UA-camrs.
Amber, keep smiling - you bring us joy with your great smile.
This is my favorite of theirs! Reminds me of my youth, right before MTV took off. Soooo good! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💜💜💜
The Meaning, Babaji, Lady, soapbox opera, child of vision, dreamer. They their most overlooked not known outstanding masterpieces.

The instrumentation has analog gooeyness to it. The electric piano intro is so pleasing to the ear - it draws you right in from bar 1!
I saw this live..., followed by take the long way home. On their last tour... it was their encore song... so memorable..
That was the 70's for you, but the great compositions that took you on a journey, started in the mid to late 60's. So many different sounds were being born all the time. I'm so grateful I got to live through it and party my ass off on the dance floor. 💃💕🎼🎵🎶😎

Been a Supertramp fan from day one. Saw them in concert on this "Breakfast In America" tour. Fantastic guitar, vocals, lyrics. Brilliant band.
My 13-y-o overheard this and said, "oh, it's Goodbye Toby!" 😁
Yeah, that's what I hear now too lol
that's all i hear ever since i've watched the office
FEEEEEEEL NOOOOOO PAAAAAAIIIINNN!!!! TOBY! TOBY! 🤣🤣🤣 ua-cam.com/video/My-VUirw76w/v-deo.html
Love me some Supertramp.
Their Paris live album was awesome. The videos of the concert were found in 2006 and the entire concert was remastered as Supertramp Live in Paris '79.
This song gives me Goosebumps
I love watching u guys. I grew up listening to most of the 60,70’s rock, and it’s great to see you guy’s enjoying it.
*_'And I will go on shining, Shining like brand new_*
*_I'll never look behind me, My troubles will be few'_*
