Fun fact: If you are driving on the open road playing this song, the guitar solo at the end will make your car speed up by 20 to 30 miles per hour.
I think I remember getting that ticket.
Yeah buddy.
😂Challenge accepted
Fact!
Sorry officer, I was playing Supertramp.
"Give a little bit", "Take the long way home", "Bloody well right", "Dreamer", "Logical song", "Breakfast in America". So many great songs.
All of the above, and more!!! ⬆️
They've done Take The Long Way Home and The Logical Song.
Rudy is another favourite as well as Hide in your shell.
Love them all
Great suggestions!
"Symphonic" is the word that comes to my mind when thinking of Supertramp. Their writing and composition are very intelligent.
Amber is so right about the writing in Supertramp and the other bands she mentions. 70's prog and even prog-pop was cinematic and ambitious in terms of structure, story telling and range of texture and dynamics, to the benefit of the open-minded listener. It's so nice to see people still appreciate that.
Supertramp and ELO are 2 of the most under appreciated bands of all time.
Only by those who have never listen to them.
I mean, Supertramp had several top 10 albums including a number one, and a handful of top 40 hits (prog rock bands don't usually have much singles success). ELO had five top 10 albums, seven top 10 singles and 20 top 40 singles. I don't think either were THAT underappreciated, compared to some bands that people have never heard of
I don't think they were. Music was great back then, and we listened and loved it all. :)
Yes I love them both
I am from Calgary Supertramp are Gods here
Roger Hodgson's guitar solo (outro) on Goodbye Stranger is surely up there with the best of all time. Pure musical genius.
I never realized Roger played lead guitar - I always thought he jusr sang lead vocals and played keyboards and rhythm guitar.
I was usually disappointed with the radio play of "Goodbye Stranger" because the stations usually cut out the guitar solo which is surely one of the most delicious solos of all time.
Amber is a star...her appreciation of nuances and key changes is perfect
It shows in her face!! SHE LOVES IT!!!!
The drummer for this band was my high school baseball coach, Bob Siebenberg, and he talked about their tours and the stuff they got to experience. Pretty wild 😂
The man has a passion for basketball sounds like
One of the most under rated guitar solos ever. Perfectly thought out and played.
I absolutely love that solo!! I agree, it is so perfectly thought out and played! Beautifully melodic parts that moved so smoothly over the chords!
Just goes to show how guitar solos don't always have to be a zillion notes to be great.
Most underrated band of all time. Definitely don’t get their due credit.
The guitarist invents Primus, The Prodigy, and House music all once...right here...in this solo. Amazing. Madonna even uses this effect on Ray of Light...that's how good it is.
Great, Academy Award level outro. Closing credits to a great movie.
The guitar solo is the best part of the song and most radio stations cut it off and I hate it! Grrrr!
Back in 1977, when I was a senior in high school, I was stood up by a girl (for a high school dance) and walked along the Lake Michigan shoreline dressed in a brand new suit, weeping my eyes out. Tired of feeling sorry for myself, i remembered that someone I knew lived nearby and had friends over for a small party. I decided to go there, despite my puffy eyes. For some reason the memory of stepping into that friend's house always stuck in my mind: She had Supertramp playing on her stereo, and the song was "Give a Little Bit." The combination of the music and being with good friends actually wiped the memory of being stood up out of my mind, and I managed to have a great time. 😀
Objectively, music sucks compared to then.
I hope the girl that stood you up wound up with a scorpion in her bra and panties...or something similar.
I graduated in '76, by the way.
As I recall we were all "stud to the max".
And you stuck through it all and now here we are! :)
I don't consider an album collection complete without 'Breakfast In America'... It is one of those pivotal pop records that defined an era. I also feel the same about ELO's 'Out Of The Blue'
awesome
The same with the Yes album 90125.
Your comment made me smile, thank you. Breakfast in America and Out of the Blue - we have the same taste.
Oh yes, Supertramp and Elo both ace!
And yes
Supertramp's greatest attribute is without doubt their exceptional talent in 'musical arrangement'. The entry and disappearance of different instruments throughout their pieces to instigate a particular dramatic effect is nothing short of genius. They are individually quite talented with their own instruments of choice, but it is the total conception of what they want to present which is magical and extremely entertaining for the listener. God bless you Supertramp..
Well said
Hear hear!! 🔥💯
That freaking ending
Breakfast in America was the very first album I ever purchased on my musical journey, way back in 1979 as a 16 year old, and it remains a feast of incredible music and still remains in my album collection over 40 years later
I was 23 in 79 so I can appreciate your sentiment. Even in the quitest moments was my first. I was living in Germany at the time in the military and discovering all of these groups.
did you ever listen to playing the field by the outfield. Entire album excellent.
16 in 1979, also, my friend! 😁
Jay & Amber,
Supertramp has a very eclectic sound above all others for that time period.😊
Supertramp came on the scene with a new sound all their own. It was a breath of fresh air.
All y'all look like you're on a roller coaster ride and you can't see what's next, but you love the ride. Love your channel.
I had the privilege of seeing Supertramp twice. Once in 1975 and then in 2005….30 years apart….and they blew me away both times.
Their concerts are an event. They only have 5 members in the band but some times they have an extra musician or two and the first time I saw them, they had a whole troop of actors who act out parts in their songs on stage while they are playing. The also had a huge round screen (like Pink Floyd) and played movie tracks that accompanied some of their songs.
And “most of all”…..the sound was incredible. Sitting in a huge arena …....the sound was as good as sitting at home with headphones on.
For me…..my top five bands are Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Steely Dan, Doobie Bros and Toto.
At 2:44 when Jay stops the video, you can see smoke coming out of Amber's ears. Boy, if looks could kill.
The detail and precision is just sick.
Wet Willie "Keep on Smiling "
Yes ! That song is super special to me.
"Even in the quietest moments" is one of their best. IMHO.
Yep! " the laughter brings me joy..."
this album was just perfect!
we love Supertramp with you ❤ keep 'm comming 👊
Couldn't be more thrilled to here you are "obsessed" with Supertramp, you get an A++ for your music appreciation skills! Listen to "School" next If you want to take your next Supertramp journey
School School, School, School!!!!
You MUST do videos for: School, Give a Little Bit, My Kind of Lady, Hide in Your Shell, Crime of the Century, Don't Leave Me Now... The list of amazing Supertramp songs is endless.
Nothing to this day sounds like this record, it was that well written, performed and produced. A first class band.
Composition, arrangement, odd time signatures, precision playing and production. This band has it all.
Very Underrated group , This is my Fav. from them
Nobody but nobody sounded quite like Supertramp...... from memory, there were 4 or 5 members of Supertramp. All were talented musicians....
"Rudy" by them. You will ABSOLUTELY love that one!
That's one of the BEST finales of a rock n roll song EVER. So glad you loved it!
Love love love Supertramp. They are so unique and so awesome. Glad you’re reacting to them. You’ll never be disappointed.
Super tramp - It's Raining Again
Supertramp fills the ears
Supertramp had those albums that you could listen to over, and over, and over again. Another album to hear is Crime of the Century.
Crime of the Century is one of the best albums ever produced!!! Right On!
Even in the quietest of moments is my favorite Supertramp album.
"It's Raining Again", great tune. Amber will love the sax in it.
Are you starting to realize why the older generation is always saying that today's "popular" music sucks compared to back in the day? 😁
These guys have so many fantastic tunes. Another rabbit hole for you to go down.
Nahhh.....each time has its own bands and music..there is no better or worse..we just remember the better ones and not all the crap we had to hear at radio etc..
@@rapsack7058 I put parentheses around the word popular for a reason. I'm not talking about music in general I'm talking about the music that's played over the radio. Not the music scene in general, which is solid.
If you were to compare the top 10 Billboard songs right now to the top 10 songs in say 1976, do you think today's popular music holds up?
Do you think Nicky Minaj really stacks up against someone like Janis Joplin?
Both the music production business and the radio business has changed dramatically since then. Back in the day DJs weren't forced to play certain music. Back then radio stations weren't confined to one genre.
I respectfully disagree.
@@ajschroetlin2196
Ahh....i am born 1970...so...Jenis Joblin was way before my time...But in the 80's there were a lot of crap that were popular...
Thankfully i dont remember to much...BUT i know that we were very selective...when we recorded our own tapes
And you needed to be in the sceen to learn what bands exsisted...there were lots of niches.. I am not sure if this is still the case......
I was never a charts fan or so...But very open for different styles and sceenes..
When i speakl with my the younger ones i i have the feelings they still have the same culture of music not style or so, but special music sceenes and subculturs...ad with the modern "cheap professional" equipment you have very nice but hidden alternative market. Today its quite easy to to make a high standard record...if you have the skills...
I dont know....i think i cant judge it...
If you see just the "modern" mainstream you find musicians like Eminem and i thin he made realy graet stuff...i thinkt he kidsfof our kids will still listen to him...
SO no...cant say old times were better just different. Each era has there own heros and special styles...
Cannonball!!! Fantastic tune and an incredible song to test your speakers, just like this one!! 😁✌
There are five band members in Supertramp. I'm so happy you love them, Amber. They have been my favourite group for almost 50 years, with ELO close behind. Goodbye Stranger was a massive hit for them and is from the Breakfast in America album. As great as the entire LP is, in my opinion it may be only their third or fourth-best album - that's how amazing their albums were in the 1970s. As much as they are loved and admired by many they are still vastly underrated in the history of rock/pop music. It is a total travesty that they are still not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They have their own sound. The musicianship is top rate and the lyrics from Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson range from happy to very bleak and dark. They have a lot of social commentary in their words especially from their all-time classic album Crime of the Century, my favourite LP ever. They use saxophone, electric piano, clarinet and harmonica in such beautiful ways. Please react to a lot more Supertramp, and not just from Breakfast in America, their most successful album commercially. Every song on Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments and Famous Last Words is either great or worth listening to at the very least.
@@G-BUD_Budlong I have the original records for ELO and Supertramp too. In the case of Supertramp, I spent more than double the going rate for an album back in the early to mid-1980s and bought the specially pressed, half-speed mastered discs called the Audiophile series. They were CD quality records before CDs came out or as the Compact Disc format was just becoming popular. They look and sound great still, 40 years later.
This is my Favorite Super Tramp Song. The chorus perfectly ties it all together.
My favorite Supertramp song and my all-time favorite road song.
I saw them in San Antonio on their Breakfast in America tour. Dancing bananas and gorillas highlighted the evening. Every bit as composed live as in the studio. Great band.
Amber, I've aways thought them as a very "clean" and sophisticated sounding band. Saw them 4 times and I promise you they sounded fantastic EVERY TIME!
As An African American "Supertramp" Was My Secret Pleasure For Years. My Heart Was 💔 When They Broke Up.
I just LOVE the way that Supertramp uses crescendo in their songs. They start out soft and slow and in this case, they snowball into one of my all-time favorite guitar solos at the end. If you can find a good recording of "Even in the Quietest Moments" (thanks, Roger...geez, Dude, let us here your genius), it is one of my favorite songs by anybody.
Hah - I love that! Very much like a snowball being rolled down a big hill picking up more intensity and layers.
I grew up listening Supertramp, because of my dad. And I will always remember him and thank him for his incredible musical taste.
My Dad as well
That’s ending guitar a bit is awesome and she is right it is something to be felt and heard
SUPERTRAMP SCHOOL. You will not be disappointed. What a crazy good song with great sound.
Supertramp's arrangements are unlike any other band. Like Rush they are just so unique musically that they created their own "sound."
One of the most joyous guitar solos ever recorded
Bloody Well Right. Crazy. Sister Moonshine so many.
Just one of the best guitar outros ever! Supertramp rocks, and I appreciate how much you appreciate them. :)
You gotta check out their ABSOLUTELY BEST ALBUM
"Crime of the Century"
Every song is fire!!!!!!!!!!
Multiple exclamation marks…
That, and "Crisis, What Crysis?".
Yes brother!!!
what he said
@@brettpeacock9116 I agree. A hidden little gem. Saw Supertramp in 1976 in L.A. One of the few bands that could replicate their studio sound live.
GREAT band, while I was listening to my Kiss records as an 8 or 9 year old kid, every now and then I would sneak into my older sisters room and play her records, doesn't get any more nostalgic than this
young générations discovering real music !
"Bloody Well Right" is a must listen!
not many bands that consistently give me goosebumps like supertramp. if i haven't heard them for a few weeks GOOSEBUMPS for sure.
“Bloody well right” by Supertramp is a must!
Supertramp: ‘Fool’s Overture’. This track is epic, like a mini rock opera.
Hide in your shell..their best song!!
Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
"School" is my all-time favorite Supertramp song. The entire "Crime of the Century" album is a masterpiece. What a great band to be obsessed with. The 70's was a great time to grow up music-wise. Welcome to my (our) world!
Among my large album collection back in college I splurged for two master pressed LPs - Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Supertramp's "Crime of the Century". Cranking the amp to 10 for the harmonica, scream and piano in "School" is a fond memory.
It’s if everybody was listening for me!
Being the youngest sibling and cousin paid off by the time I discovered the music that “spoke” to me. :) I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had absorbed all the bands and musicians they all listened too when I was little.
I still remember my sister listening to this album with the volume cranked. :)
I owned all their albums. ❤❤❤❤❤. Also danced a 24 hr dance-a-thon with lots of Supertramp music.
You can't go wrong with any Supertramp. Keep your reactions coming
The whole Breakfast in America album is amazing!
I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but "Child of Vision " is my favorite song by them
Supertramp, ELO, Queen, Rush 70's bands were epic.
Great reaction. I saw Supertramp in the early 80s. One of the best light shows I ever saw. You have to react to their song School from the album, Crime of the Century! I am partial to the piano, and Roger Hodgson plays his heart out in this one, it's a great tune.
I’ve seen the band three times live. This exactly how they sound in concert. No letdown. Incredible band.
Man that is so cool.
You both are definitely not alone in your love (obsession) of Supertramp. Hats off!
Supertramp is SUPER MELODIC & Multi-layered
“Fools Overture”! Incredible 😁 Also “Lord Is It Mine”.
Don't Leave Me Now (Amber will love the sax), Fool's Overture, Dreamer, and Hide In Your Hell are some of my favourites (with Goodbye Stranger). So many great songs.I met the band when I was 8... it left a mark on me. 🙂 I saw Roger Hodgson shortly before the pandemic hit... still sounds incredible live.
Here's the link to Dreamer..: ua-cam.com/video/B885n08hOmw/v-deo.html
"Bloody Well Right", "School", and "Child Of Vision". Those will all get the toes a-tappin.
The entire Breakfast in America album is wonderful.
And a Big Hit in Europe too, „It’s Raining again“. Very Melancholy!
My 13-y-o overheard this and said, "oh, it's Goodbye Toby!" 😁
Yeah, that's what I hear now too lol
that's all i hear ever since i've watched the office
FEEEEEEEL NOOOOOO PAAAAAAIIIINNN!!!! TOBY! TOBY! 🤣🤣🤣 ua-cam.com/video/My-VUirw76w/v-deo.html
“Breakfast in America” was a quadruple platinum selling album in the USA alone ...selling over 4 million copies here . It had 4 Billboard top 100 hits too. Everyone had this album when I was in H.S.
Roger Hodgson was the singer and guitar player in the band btw so that was him on the ending solo.
The album is epic and sounds as good to me as the first time I heard in 1979 as a high school senior.
He also played the other keyboard.
@@jerrycote659 they did such a good job alternating singers to fit the song. Roger is awesome with the harmonies and i think this is Rick's best lead vocal..
Amber, keep smiling - you bring us joy with your great smile.
"It's Raining Again" is another great Supertramp song. Also a great video.
My favourite band back in the 70s still love their music so multi layered. I'm glad you guys are checking them out and enjoying them.
I’ve been obsessed with Supertramp as well. I was a kid. But their sound was so unique and the musicianship…. Vocals. Icons.
Supertramp is one of those groups that flew under my radar. I think I don’t know any of their songs until I hear one and I instantly recognize it.
You can never go wrong with Supertramp...
Another one of 'Most Underrated Bands' grouping! Great musicianship all round and the lyrics - well!
"Now some they do and some they don't
And some you just can't tell
And some they will and some they won't
With some it's just as well"
Great to see your reactions to this well-loved band, keep doing it you two!
The way this song builds into one of the best guitar solos is just incredible.
I wish it went longer.
First of all, I love you two! I was in the Army, mid 70s, in the middle of Germany, with nothing to do. No tv to watch and nothing to fill off time with. I got a kick ass stereo for my dorm room, and Supertramp was one of my favorites to crank up. Listening to their songs is like riding an audio rollercoaster. Absolutely love your reactions!
One of the things about Supertramp sound was the backing from their label A&M . The label was totally behind what they did and let them more-less do their thing in the studio and kept out of it. Also, the label believe in so much of what they did they had their Classical Music Department master their albums
My absolute favorite Supertramp song - cannot listen to this in the car without exceeding the speed limit and cranking the volume way up - awesome reaction!!
"Goodbye Stranger", "School", "Bloody Well Right", "It's Raining Again" ... there are just way too many great songs by Supertramp, but these are definitely my top 4. One of the all-time greatest bands! It's a 5-man band, but through the years, they've been through about 20 total members who have come and gone. Rogert Hodgson is lead singer and a founding member of Supertramp. I hope you continue exploring them! Thank you for the reaction! ;-)

Back from Christmas Vacation and saw this reaction, love Supertramp, what an unique band.
Quality songs, quality melodies, quality musicians, quality production = quality music... Period.
"Goodbye Stranger" and "Logical Song" were from the more commercial successful album "Breakfast in America" . Some of their earlier songs in their earlier career like "School", "Crime of the Century" and "Bloody Well Right" will delight you with the songwriting and textures.
My sister had this album when I was a kid but it didn't appreciate it till later in life. Another band I know you will like is Boston, "More Than a Feeling" will blow your mind. Thanks guys for your channel.
These two are SO good: They don’t interrupt every 10 seconds! She’s kind of in her own world- trying to feel the song, while he’s all about “air-playing,” and loving the high-hat. Good call comparing them to Rush. I’d just argue that within 10 seconds of just about ANY Rush song, you know it’s Rush- not so much about Supertramp. People either love or hate this band, and especially this song- another thing they have in common with Rush.😆
Supertramp, Alan Parsons Project and Toto. Bands that started in the 70's, went on into the 80's and 90's in the case of Toto. What do they have in common? Vanguard Experimental music with a mixture of many genres and sounds.
They're not appealing to most people because they didn't make albums to please the mainstream public but they certainly sounded outstanding and awesome.
It's great young people are discovering their music.
The lead vocals are by Rick Davies. Logical song was Roger Hodgson. Again, EVERY SINGLE SONG ON “BREAKFAST IN AMERICA” IS FIRE!!!
Great reaction. It’s a pleasure to see young folks not only liking this song, but to give an intelligent and well articulated description as to what you like about the song and the band. You have a new subscriber.
Supertramp's been awakend , looks like their gaining momentom again . . . Rise from the ashes Boy's !
This song is just incredible
