But additionally we listened to this on shoulder high floor speakers, which was connected to an FM stereo, which has its own power output, hooks up to the Reel to Reel, which also puts out extra watts, amplifiers with VACUUM TUBES instead of transistors, also cassette separately, allowing, recording of two of the same tapes to play while recording MAD sound..

Supertramp was a uniquely talented band. I first saw them in Frankfurt in 86. It was their comeback after a brief hiatus after losing Rodger Hogson. It was the Brother Where You Bound tour and That was a great album in itself. Please review the songs on this album too. Like a Cannonball, Better Days, Brother where you bound where great songs the displayed their musical talents with rock, some good horn sections, and musicianship. Even David Gilmour of Pink Floyd got a chance to dabble with his guitar in brother where you bound. No mistaking his sound and style.

Now in the music industry, USUALLY the legal team/label of the band would inform the artist of the Sample used. There will be an agreement of Royalties between the artist, the songwriters (not always the same people) and the artist/label releasing the new song. The labels do not always come to an agreement or the second label releasing doesn't always do what they're supposed to, however, I remember in the case of this sample, the labels had the proper agreements and Royalty split. I vaguely even remember members of Supertramp joining them on stage over in London. I could be mistaken on that one.

For another Supertramp vibe check out "Fool's Overture". If you want to hear some horns check out "Get It On" by a group called "Chase". Jay will have definitely heard it played by bands at college football games but it is one of those songs you recognize but never find out the title to. The group did not have a long run because the leader died in a plane crash around 1974. If you want 80's vibe with horns, you of course can think of "Huey Lewis and the News" which you already know and love but you can check out Glenn Frey who went on a solo career after The Eagles disbanded. "You Belong To The City" and "The Heat Is On" were 2 massive hits that both feature a lot of saxophone and got a lot of radio air play.

A lot of groups featured horns. Supertramp, Chicago, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Yes, Styx, and Dennis DeYoung. I'm with Amber - I ❤ a good horn section! 😍 Roger Hodgeson is a nation treasure - so much so that when Trevor Rabin demoed songs for Yes's "Talk" album, the track "Walls" features Roger Hodgeson singing along with Trevor Rabin. The demo isn't much different from the finished track. Roger's voice blended so well with Trevor that Jon Anderson refused to sing his parts in the verses - he left Roger intact and only sang in the choruses and a small bridge in the end that wasn't on Trevor's demo.

A lot of 1970s funk bands have horns, but most of them started to lose the horn section in the early 1980s when synth & drum machine based electrofunk took over. A few more recent acts you might want to check out are Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings, Soil & PIMP Sessions. Sharon Jones passed away a few years ago, but a couple of the horn players from her band now play with The Roots on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". On a related note, the group Naturally 7 and singer Raul Midón both make horn sounds with their voices.

Such a great song. It really gives me the vibe I get from walking down a city block or around a town interacting with the friendly local people. Kind of like you might feel in your local diner or bar. Which is why I feel the name of the song and the album cover feel so fitting. I mean for a while Diners and the food industry was a great way for people to connect and interact with each other. Something kind of lost in the whole pandemic situation and the whole chain fast food industry take over. One of my favorite child hood memories was visiting and seeing the local diner where I grew up. I feel like that connection between people has been lost. For a country like the USA who is supposed to stay united under god indivisible for liberty and justice for all. We are kind of lacking in the United front these days. The instruments were great in this song and the lyrics were top notch too. It was just a happy memorable song. Glad to see you enjoy it.

Supertramp only had 1 horn player, But he knew how to play all woodwind instruments and used a reverb mike for the fullest sound. Also note the heavy drum'bass on their tunes, The drummer liked Ludwigs, which have a more deep punch. (Led Zep, The Who, Rick James, Black Sabbath's, etc. drummers always used 'em ) For Tower Of Power, try the studio version of "Soul Vaccination" or Chicago? "Old Days" Keep on coming up with the good stuff, R.S!

Also, check out Blood Sweat & Tears, a seventies band that used horns. 'Spinning Wheel' was big and a well-known song by them.

I'm now in my mid 60's and back in the day was a hard rocker. I hated Supertramp because they didn't fit into my "rock box". By the '90's I was the complete family man and started to mellow out. I re-discovered all the bands of the '70's I originally didn't like. Supertramp was near the top of the "list". I came to realise what great music they created, particularly Roger's contribution. Loved them ever since.
