Hooray! After being diagnosed by a CT scan with a severe fatty liver a year ago, after a year of the keto diet/lifestyle my scan of a couple days ago reads, "upper abdomen, unremarkable". My severe fatty liver is gone and "unremarkable" never sounded so good!
@@NomfundoV8 Early on in keto I did eat berries, but I've stopped that now and am really heavier on the carnivore part of keto. I've been on keto for a year, no longer insulin resistant, am fat adapted so my meals keep me satiated and full--I'm not hungry all the time.

@@stevec3872 excellent! Again congrats and God bless!! I myself was diagnosed about 11 months now I was on keto diet (so I thought) ever since and I thought that on my second blood tests I would have lowered it by now.. man was I wrong. So my alt prior was from 64 to 79 to now was 90 my ast is 56. I have to say that when I said I was on keto for the most part I guess I didn’t do it 💯 percent. I mean i would still have my occasional macchiatos and sodas and cakes but that was on occasions the most I did honestly was soda maybe 2-3 cans a week, is that a lot? I don’t know. But seeing how serious this can get I’ve started three days ago to cut off sugars and carbs once and for all and do the keto the right way..hoping that on my next blood test it gets better.🙏🏽.. btw can you share me your daily keto intake meats fishes poultry etc. and how long was the duration of your fasting..thank you & God Bless!!.. Aloha!!
As a survivor of End Stage Liver Disease I can say that you are totally correct with these 7 Steps. I can only really add the taking of a special snack during the fasting stage of the day. Adding a drink of ACV (apple cider vinegar), turmeric and cyan pepper with a teaspoon of honey and lemon juice. The doctors at the time told me I'd never last til a donor liver became available but I proved them wrong.
I suffer from non-alcoholic fatty liver, disease, due depression, and over, eating, and I’ve watched your videos on for quite some time, and you’ve truly help me lose weight and get my health under control. I’m 28 years old, and you’ve truly helped me and I’m grateful for your videos.
Milk thistle everyday for about 3 months will lower your liver enzymes….Pure Synergy makes the one I take…I lowered the ALT enzyme by 14 points in 3 months..
My 11 year old daughter reversed her fatty liver disease with keto! She came to us through foster care after her bio mom had some drug issues and delivered her two months early at 3lbs 15 oz. She was 2 months old and 6 lbs when she was placed in my arms. By 5 months on premature baby formula she jumped to lots of rolls and to the 95th percentile in weight. As an LPN, I asked the doctor if we should switch formula or test thyroid with these changes? They tested thyroid and it was normal. Her weight continued to climb through the years even with “good” nutrition and lots of exercise. We were very careful with added sugars and any processed foods. I continued to bring the concerns to doctors because as a nurse I had seen the devastating effects of diabetes etc and it seemed like we were going in that direction already! I wanted to be careful about my concerns because of eating disorders…I wanted her to have a healthy relationship with food. I tried to talk to doctors without her being there to discuss my concerns. They kept telling me not to worry about it and just eliminate processed foods. At 9 years old, she developed a “Buffalo hump” and it was embarrassing for her. She cried and always wanted to wear her hair down to cover it. I requested an appointment with an endocrinologist (although the family doctor saw no need). I thought she must be pre-diabetic or have some kind of metabolic syndrome that needed to be addressed. The endocrinologist did no tests and said she was fine and that people “distribute fat differently”. At 10 years old she needed blood work for a different issue and the labs and ultrasound confirmed fatty liver disease. We were referred to a hepatologist who said “stop giving her processed foods. She needs to lose weight”. She wanted to refer her to a weight clinic where they would encourage exercising/counseling and “good nutrition”. I knew this wouldn’t work and it was no fault of her own…something was wrong! I researched the formula she had as a baby and saw the first ingredient was corn syrup. She had a tough start to life and I wondered if it could all be related. I researched “insulin resistance” and started researching keto. I still don’t really know why this happened to her and not others but i knew something needed to change. I told the liver doctor I would like to try keto before a weight clinic and she agreed (hesitantly) that I could try it with lab work in a couple months. ALL labs back to normal in 2 months AND even better in 6 months. No more Buffalo hump, she lost 20 lbs…and is enjoying and eating more food than she ever did! I’m so thankful! The whole family is keto, and many of our health issues have improved or been eliminated(psoriasis, headaches, snoring). When I returned to the doctor knowing these results were directly related to keto/low carb they gave it no credit. Nothing worked and this did! It changed her life! I’m so thankful to this channel and others that continue to research and learn! Thank you!
The medical profession is WILLFULLY IGNORANT. It's disgusting. Doctors aren't DOCTORS anymore, they just follow along with the flow to avoid ostracization and lawsuits and never question or do their own research. Pathetic.
Been on Keto for 3 months now , my liver tests were in the low 200s…. I was 70 pounds over weight , I’ve dropped 40 pounds . Hoping for better lab results here in 3 months . Wish me luck everybody ! And good bless you all !
Your body is still healing and I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised by your next blood work results. My husband had MAFLD and excess weight was increasing, hunger insatiable, triglycerides were 3x high normal level. Found keto and told him we had to be all in not halfway. It was tough but in a week the changes started for both of us. In 12 weeks his TG were way down, and later they went into low normal zone. We love keto or LCHF. We cycle protein days, we do time restricted fasting. Haven’t felt better. We are in late 50’s.
I’m 62 years old ,I’m a type 2 diabetic and had high blood pressure and was on cholesterol medicine. In 2015 I was diagnosed with liver cancer . I had a fatty liver which turn to cirrhosis and then I developed HCC no one ever told me about a Keto diet back then. I had a liver resection 1/3 of my liver removed. I found out about Keto in 2019. I lost 40 pounds in six months I’m no longer taking diabetic/Blood pressure/cholesterol meds. During 2020 I fell off the wagon gained 15 pounds back but now I’m back on Keto and hopefully I’ll be on it for the rest of my life. Currently I’m taking no medication’s at all. 🤗
I couldn't save weight to save my life and was stuck at 313 pounds for years. I found out about fatty liver and focused on fixing that first - the weight began to tumble and ten months later, I reached 210 pounds. Keto and fasting 18:6 was the key.
@@intentionallyinpired you might be insulin resistant, meaning you require longer fasts to kick start the weight loss. I got stuck 3 times on the way down and found that a few random OMAD days pushed me through the barrier. I only eat two meals per day, during a 5 hour eating window. Breakfast normally consists of a two egg omelette with melted cheese and bacon, or my own keto muffins, instead of the omelette. Meal two will be something like, ground beef mince burger patties, with a keto flatbread and sprouts or broccoli. My diet isn't perfect and it's a bit lazy to be honest, but it's effective.
Our son was diagnosed with Fatty Liver and Insulin Resistance at age 15 after seeing 4 doctors and 2 dietitians. He was eating the prescribed "healthy" rainbow diet of fruits and vegetables and lots of oatmeal, of course, because that was each doctor's answer. He actually ate very modest amounts, but continued to gain an insane amount of weight. We could tell the first 3 doctors didn't believe us and made no attempt to fix the problem. Thankfully, doctor number 4 got him on the right track and he has already lost over 30 lbs. Now that we've discovered your videos about Keto we expect things to get even better! Thank you so much!

I was told for over twenty years, every time I had blood work done, that I had a fatty liver. I strictly followed diet instructions from several different doctors over the years. Different doctors, same wrong advice. I got sicker and gained weight. Last year I got completely different advice and started keto. Reversed fatty liver, lowered my blood pressure, lost 65 lbs and my biometrics results are excellent. Thank you for giving relevant and useful advice.
Get it together people! I've had liver disease for at least 16 years (autoimmune hepatitis & fatty). I'm what you call skinny fat! It's very silent, so silent that I progressed to the start of cirrhosis. Ever since getting that diagnosis I discovered fasting and a low-carb diet. It seems to be keeping things at Bay for the last 3 years.
@@chaz6399 absolutely silent. Only abnormal liver enzymes for 16 years. Had two biopsies, one in 2007 & 2016 showing minimal scarring. Two years ago had a fibroscan and was told I had the start of cirrhosis.
@@christopherralphbianco4623 Thanks for the info. Given the biopsy in 2007 I'm guessing the LFT elevations were non-trivial. In my experience doctors tend to ignore minor elevations. I had two different docs see my slightly elevated ALT and tell me, "you probably have a little bit of fat in your liver -- nothing to worry about". I got low-carb religion in 2018 and subsequently got ALT and AST back into the lower end of the normal range, but I'm sure I did some damage during the prior 5 to 10 years when I was still fully trusting doctors to interpret my blood work. I also drink a 20 oz glass of water with 1 oz apple cider vinegar, 1/2 oz MCT oil, and squeeze 1/3 of a lemon in it. This is SO right!! I was diagnosed with a fatty liver a few years ago. My doctor sent me to a specialist who kept asking me if I ever drink or take drugs. He kept asking me, like he thought I was lying, every time I told him no. Well, he said I needed a liver biopsy, to see what the problem was. I walked out of that office and did my own research. I started a low carb/keto diet, and in just a few months, my tests showed NO MORE fatty liver!! I am so disappointed in regular doctors, who do not even know, or don't want to know, how to help or heal their patients!! How many people don't do their research??? Thank you, Dr. Berry, for spreading the word! You are saving people!
My husband went into the hospital with fluid in his abdomen and the nurse came out of the ER to ask me how much he drinks a day. I told her none (we may have 1 mild drink on an anniversary a year, but not that in several years) and she called me a liar, he has to be drinking and is probably hiding it from you. He has stage 2 cirrhosis and is type 2 diabetic. He's gotten worse. I'm going to bring up trying this diet and such and see if we can't slow this down, maybe even help him live a few more years with me. I just couldn't believe that nurse, she was very ugly to me, convinced I was a naïve woman who didn't spend 24 hours a day/7 days a week with him (he still works, from home). My husband was furious when he was told what she was saying to me.
@charlayned Wow, that's terrible!! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I lost my wife to cirrhosis in 2019 . There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about her and currently now, I'm dealing with fatty liver issues. It's just so frustrating dealing with doctors these days..... it takes days sometimes month's to book an appointment with primary and when you want to see a specialist on your own they try to send you back to your primary and all the bureaucracy between insurance , doctors, hospitals and clinics it seems like sometimes they don't seem to care until you have 1 foot in the grave or have some kind of diamond level insurance then they take you serious!! Really makes me angry the sole call medical care people are offered these days. I wonder if it's really profits over people!!! Anyway, I pray that your husband is one of the fortunate ones and hopefully your prayers are answered and that you will be living your best lives for years to come..
My favorite response to the whole "trust the science/Dr's and don't do your own research..." That's like going to buy a car and telling the salesmanager that you're going to do your own research to which they respond "Oh you don't need to do that, our salesman here is an expert on all of these." Hell No. Anytime someone tells you not to do your own research, they are just looking at you as a mark to draw more and more money out of.
I have been told for years that I have a fatty liver and eventually inflamed liver. BUT nobody told me how to fix it other than LOW fat. I was 6’3” and 220 pounds -maybe 20 to 30 pounds overweight when my doc told me 20 years ago I had an enlarged liver that could develop into cirrhosis. No problem! I thought, I don’t drink, so I’ll never have cirrhosis. Fast forward to 2019. I had acute liver failure, fell into a coma, and a couple of weeks later had a transplant. It would have been a LOT EASIER to follow this diet and heal my liver.
I've had elevated liver enzymes for the past few years. I was finally diagnosed with NAFLD. I was told to lose weight and focus on smaller portions. It wasn't until I ate a low-carb/keto diet that my ALT liver enzymes returned to normal levels. Only 3-4 weeks on the diet and everything fell way within healthy ranges.
This is good news to hear I was just told by my VA doctor that my liver was also at a F4 that it was my fault to my choices from the diet and he didn't want to hear any complaints with me cuz it was all by my choice he then went on to told me I'd more than likely die within the next 6 to 8 months from either liver failure or liver cancer the only hope at this point would be a liver transplant which you would block since everything wrong is done by choices he said just like a smoker lung cancer it was done by my choices not by something Medical he said to spend the next six to eight months getting my Affairs in order before the liver fails
@@lorenstern9852 I think the trick may be to fast more like seven days a week one week a month.... Stay very low carbs the rest. As after a 2.5-3 day fast, the body will eat the garbage to survive.. Thank you for this video. My problem here is there seems to be no consensus in the medical community about nutrition and fatty liver disease and it’s very frustrating. You’re saying high, fat, low carbohydrate, where I seen a majority of opinion that leans towards the Mediterranean diet, which has plenty of carbs in it, and supposedly direct evidence of benefit to find liver disease. And most people with fatty liver disease also have lipid abnormalities, which seems contraindicated for a fatty diet. It’s like I don’t know who to listen to, and again there is no consensus out there.
This video seems to be the odd one out. Fear mongering even. Stick to the Mediterranean diet, but with wholegrain bread/pasta and without the alcohol. Olive oil is good and won't hurt a fatty liver, coconut oil is not good. Fasting is not necessary at all. Eat lots of (different) vegetables, eat fruits. Take wholegrain products, lean meats, (fatty) fish, eggs, dairy without added sugar, some nuts. You can supplement with some milk thistle herbs (over the counter and stick to dosage).
Thanks Doc. I survived pancreas cancer and thyroid cancer, stomach cancer kidney cancer….but in doing so I had to change my diet. It works here I am ALIVE. Now my pancreas left is 37% so my Liver works hard to keep me going. I’m a mild boarder line diabetic but I’ve managed to change that in two weeks by using the keto carnivore way to eat. I did find that my eating avocados 134 raised my sugar too high, broccoli not too high 129 but I do fast from 6pm to 12-1pm daily I’m just not hungry. So it’s been now 15 days and I’m doing really well. I have blood tests to do in June and we shall see. Unfortunately I was given a Cortizone injection for I had broken my left foot which now I know has made my liver more toxic. it is taking me over five years to clean my liver up from all the cancer treatments and within one injection. It’s right back to where it was so I’m back on the keto carnivore and will continue. It’s been 15 days so far so good I shall keep you all posted. Thanks again, Doc.

Helen Stewart, What a lovely human being you are! All health professionals should care as much as you do. I am providing live in care in the UK & facing same problems. Doctors in the UK have no clue what good diet is, time restricted eating, good hydration, quality food, quality supplements,etc,... & just give tablets for everything & anything. It is heartbreaking! May I suggest, that you make sure you have enough stomach acid(have some ACV in warm water before meals) & that your gallbladder is producing enough enzymes(get some bie salts if not) before going full carnivore(learned hard way).
I sympathise, my mother had to take a lot of medications, I often wondered what they were doing to her but the doctors never discussed any form of alternatives only the pills they prescribed.
When i was a kid, and i was visitong my family behind the iron curtain, i was always surprised how they lived. No pops at all. On very hot days they made some cucumber - mint- lemon mixture which was the most refreshing drink ever. Only fresh vegetables from the garden. The chicken which we ate on sunday, was still running on her legs on saturday. The chickens were living in the garden running everywhere. There was no sugar, whatsoever. My auntie always complained that they cant buy sugar in the shop. The butter was yellow, and it tasted so different than at home in canada. Tea was mint, nettle, sage and chamomile straight from the herb garden - it seemed to me that in hungary everyone had one. There was no snack whatsoever. They didnt even had a word for it. It was a big breakfast, bug lunch, very small dinner - and after dinner (5 pm-ish) kids were playing football in the park or biking like crazy up and down the hills. When the hungarian family came to canada and we went to the supermarket, they were in shock. They said half of the shop is something that they would never buy. Back in the 80-ies we thought we were a modern developed canada. We didnt know that we poisoned a whole generation. I tell my kids to go back to this diet, and keto seems to be the perfect one for that purpose.
Good to read about. Made me think if my childhood. Even though my grandmother owned a grocery store a soda pop or candy bar was a very rare treat. We ate real food - stew, meat chops, roast chicken, and always with fresh vegetables. Cakes and pies were for birthdays or holidays. This was in the 40's & 50's. When I first married I went grocery shopping with a friend. She bought lots of cake and pie ingredients but said they couldn't afford vegetables. That was my first clue that not everyone ate as we did.

I’m like wtf I’m confused now… I know fruits and herbs heal the body that’s for sure.. but now I’m afraid to eat fatty meats cause they said don’t .. wtf man. They said eat normal balanced meals. Maybe this pain and constipation was all due to my GERD and Gastritis.
@@MLGSU5P3CT I had gastritis long before eating the keto diet. All my lab work was extremely high due to eating lots of carbohydrates (breads, cakes, cookies, noodles). I reversed my fatty liver, but my gastritis is still around. It gets better if I eat wholesome foods, not junk. I had sludge in my gallbladder long before I started keto. I am now restarting the keto diet. I need to lose about 12 lbs.
Doc, I am 34 years old my sgpt before following your advice about keto diet, it was 104 and I was diagnosed NALFD. My weight was 112lbs Thanks God I watch your videos and now my sgpt went 45 and I was down to 94kg Thank you thank you.
Thank you Dr. Berry! I was diagnosed with this back in early February. I was scared! Then your “reverse fatty liver disease” popped up on my notifications. Been eating this way for almost 60 days! After 30 days I went from 65 to 43. I’m sure it’s completely normal now and my doctor was shocked! I turned her on to your videos! 😂
Tips start at 4:10: (Ketogenic or carnivore diet). 1. Remove all sugars, especially soft drinks and fruit juice. 2. Remove all grains, wheat, corn, rice, oats and soybeans. 3. Remove all vegetable oils. 4. Eat lots of fatty meat or eggs and vegetables. 3/4 of the plate with fatty meat and 1/4 greens. 5. Fasting 16-18hr fast every day. 6. No snacking. 7. Increase omega 3 in diet, no supplements.
How could I be so blind!!! I ate Leto for years and had no symptoms. At that time I was diving the Pacific and wrecks from WWII. I was lean and felt great. Long dive trips in the summer and mostly weekends out around Catalina Island. All that while teach high school. Ok. Leto starts again tomorrow ( 10 pm here). Thank you Dr Berry for posting that.
Thank you so much for this video I was diagnosed with a fatty liver last year, but the doctor didn't give me a treatment plan so I been researching how to clean my liver, it is great to know I am on the right track, Thank you.
I have had NFALD caused by too much Tylenol back when they first started it for back pain. I popped out of a F-4 Phantom in Vietnam. It has never progressed because I stopped taking this product in as many other forms I could many years ago when I became a physician myself. Keep up the fight for Ketogenic diets.
That’s right, NAFLD is caused by drugs, i.e. pharmaceutical medications. But doctors make people think it is their own fault. Will this state of affairs ever change ? 🙃

I was diagnosed with Nonalcoholic fatty liver around 10 years ago. This is how I cured it: I was drinking 4-6 liters of soda every day so I stopped completely. I started exercising 2 hours per day and dropped 50 LBs. It took couple years but no more fatty liver. Now I eat everything I want and it hasn't returned even though I gained back most of the weight. I still exercise 2 hours per day and eat anything I want but limit soda to couple times a month.
Hello. I have been struggling very hard with this especially the fatty fish like pink salmon. Do you have any suggestion on what to eat such as types of fish and veggies that are easy to digest?
Thank you DR.DBerry. At the moment, I am classed as working in progress. I have been on a keto diet for around 7 weeks and have lost 26lb. I feel much better but only yesterday I checked my blood pressure which read 164 over 99 so not too good. I spent a few years sitting in front of a computer in a very stressful environment which didn't help. I will continue on the keto diet as I love the many different recipes which will help me stay on course. Dr. your videos are a godsend. Thank you!
I was diagnosed with NAFLD last Dec. I have been on keto since then (posting this in March.). I've lost 27 lbs. and I'll get my blood tests in May. The weight loss and increased energy has me pretty optimistic though. Thank you Dr. Berry. Your videos have really helped me.

I was diagnosed with Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis or NASH via a needle liver biopsy 19 years ago, and information on how to address was extremely limited. They had told me to try and lose weight, but do NOT fast as it had shown to accelerate the disease in some studies. It basically went on as it was for four more years when diabetes diagnosis slipped in. That is when I took it upon myself to go on what I called low glycemic eating. Liver functions cleared up in a year, lost about 75 pounds, A1c went from 7.2, my highest ever, to 4.8. It included quite a bit of fasting. And only walking as my joints wouldn't allow much else that first year. Cut out about all forms of carbs, I did not eat a lot of fats, or meat, but they were better forms than I had been eating before.
@@chaz6399 If you ever develop diabetes, and you have had immediate loved ones pass away from diabetes related illnesses rather fresh in your memory, like I had, you literally become afraid to eat for awhile. That is sort of what I did. I really did not eat a lot for the year following the diabetes diagnosis. Or it was just me, but I have heard others do the same. Far less than before anyways. I had learned at that point that if I ate anything that spark insulin output it was going to make things worse. Insulin being the main hormone that made a person overweight.
@@frankenz66 I get it and I'm sort of in the same boat with you. I was just hoping you had some new meal ideas. After dilly-dallying with low-carb for decades, I got low-carb religion in middle of 2018. Lost 30 lbs over the following 18 months. Felt better than I ever had in my life. BP and several of my blood markers improved. Then in March of 2020 I started backsliding, getting careless, eating more carbs, not measuring blood sugar, getting more and more sedentary, etc. Wound up gaining about 10 lbs over 9 months. It all finally caught up with me in January 2021. One day I woke up with severe (burning) peripheral neuropathy in my feet which migrated to hands and other parts of my body. I've managed to get the neuropathy under control on my own by going back to strict low-carb and intermittent fasting. It's not entirely gone but it's tolerable and now more of a nuisance than anything. My bigger concern is that in the same time frame I also developed a persistent dull ache in my back, on the right side where my liver is. I've been trying to convince myself that it's just a back ache, but there's a nagging voice telling me that it's something more and maybe my liver or kidney is inflamed. I really hope not and I sure as hell don't want a liver biopsy! Anyway... Finally going to see my doc tomorrow to try and get some peace of mind. I definitely should have gone sooner but I was hoping it would resolve on its own. This whole situation sucks when you have a doctor that just follows the guidelines rather than understanding things the way Dr. Berry does. I suspect my doc is going to see my current 21.8 BMI and recent FBG of 92 and say there's no way it's blood sugar related, even though I've been a skinny-fat prediabetic for decades, including based on blood work he has in his file from 15 years ago. He's also going to pull up my non-zero CAC scan I had done a year ago and tell me I need to be on statin. FML Not to make this into a novella, but just last week I opened up a spreadsheet and started listing out all the sugar and carb-loaded foods my mother fed me and allowed me to eat as a kid. I'm well aware that many kids take in loads of carbs, but I guarantee you I was in the 99th percentile. I never really got fat, but I quickly developed into a tired & sickly kid and that carried on into a dysfunctional and unhealthy adulthood. I've known for a while now that's where it all started, but it really didn't fully sink in until I made this list. I also realized my mother royally screwed up my father in the same way. My father and I simply did not have the genetics to burn large amounts of carbs, but my mother was a sugar burning machine so she fed us what worked for her. I really need to start a blog to put this whole story out there.
@@chaz6399 To start, the rare pain I had with inflammed fatty liver was under the rib cage on the front side. Occasionally I even had a strange electrical discharge shoot from the outside edge on my right great toe that would shoot straight up my leg to my liver area in a fraction of seconds. I later learned that the two are on the same meridian. They were communicating the distress I guess. Liver disease is relatively asymptomatic for a long while into it. It is why it is a killer for the non-drinker because you have no symptoms until you are late into it and may not survive the timescale it takes to wait for a donation. Second, I developed folate and b-12 absorption issues later. I take a script vitamin. I also take benfotamine for neuropathy issues that came with the malabsorption. I grew up here Iin the south US where wheat flour based foods were king for me growing up. That, combined with sugar and corn syrup based junk and sweetened cold cerals it is a wonder anyone around has a working pancreas left by my age ( middle 50's). My mom did her best with the knowledge she had. She fell for that low fat eating but never really pushed it too far on the family. She is 85 and still around and has recovered from a lot as well. I overcame a lot of health issues that I should write about too. I used more than just food to heal myself though. I had tons of issues. Am doing the best I can and better than some I know. My parents were very thin growing up. My Dad had heart issues even in those times. Having too high BP for the Korean Draft and told at that point he would not live to be too old with no like that. He passed at 59. Would have been 91 just yesterday. Brother passed at 49 seven years both sudden cardiac death. My CAC was 1930 almost three years ago before I started this low carb. Don't know how it is going, but am allergic to stations so I can't go that route. As for your recurring health issues I have found it is best to never say you are healed of a condition. I am learning it tends to make you complacent in the long run.
@@frankenz66 Wow, that's quite a story. 1930 is a huge CAC score. Getting that number must have been overwhelming to say the least, esp. given your family history. Sounds like you're rising to the challenge though. Is the script vitamin called metanx? I came across that in some of my research. From what I read the liver pain you had sounds more typical. I've tried poking and prodding myself all around my abdomen and I can't elicit any pain. I can't press anywhere on my back and make it worse either. I'm hoping that fact together with solid normal ALT, AST, Bilirubin, etc. will allow my doc to tell me liver is good. We will see. I hear you on the southern cooking. I grew up in Florida. Not sure if Florida is typical "south" but the cooking style in our family certainly was. Lots of battered and fried stuff. Lots of biscuits and cornbread. Lots of Crisco, and endless cakes, cookies, pies, etc. I mean my mom loved to bake and it was extremely rare for us to not have one or more sweet desserts around the house. Then there were the homeade jellys, jams, preserves, etc. Local honey, Fresh squeezed orange juice. Sprinkling sugar on grapefruit slices. Dipping strawberries in sugar. Eating sugary raisin bran for breakfast and adding two scoops of additional sugar on top of it. Stacks of pancakes swimming in syrup. I could go on and on and on... Looking back with what I know now it really makes me feel disgusted. I know my mom didn't know any better and my pediatrician was useless, despite the fact that I was so frequently sick, but I'm not as gracious as you. I'm still not over the anger, especially now that I see that she F'd up my father as well. My grandmother saw what was going on and on multiple occasions shook her finger at my mother and said "You're feeding that boy too much sugar". She knew. BTW: I appreciate your warning. I definitely got cocky about my new found good health. Big mistake and it won't happen again!

1. Get rid of all sugar (added sugar, natural sugar (fruit, juices)) 2. No grains at all. (It turns to sugar) 3. All vegetable oils. 4. Eat lots of fatty meat 1/2 to 3/4 plate 5. Must fast 16-18 hours a day Water, unsweetened tea, black coffee, sparkling water 6. No snacking between meals during 6-8 hours eating window.
I also wanted to say… did keto for a year last lost 40 lbs… even while having Covid for a good month… I stopped losing weight on keto… and was told after my body heals I will continue to lose more weight.. well I desided to go carnivore and have been carnivore about a month… well I had a huge green leafy salad one day… couldn’t help myself…. The first 2 days I lost 6 lbs… that I regained… and haven’t gained or lost weight at this point… I feel my belly got fully round again… where I felt like it was indented and getting less round and full… so I was afraid I’m doing something wrong… but I’m sticking with the carnivore because my muscles have gotten stronger and I’m able to walk and have more Endurance with my actives… watching this video now to see if I can do anything else. For my fatty liver… PS I ate liver 2 times this week.. thank u for everything u do… I need to ask how long I should eat carnivore? I’m ussally eating healthy keto… so it almost like eating carnivore… but I felt like I needed more meat… which now I’m convenient that I did need more meat… because now I’m not craving more meat… but I am eating meat…after all… also intermittent fasting for 18 hours… which is giving me 6 hour window to eat… this is why it kinda scares me that I’m not losing weight… but I’m getting healthier…stronger… any advise is welcome… a little scared being on a carnivore diet… not losing weight but having straigth and endurance….
Hi Wanda, how is it going? It's been two years since you first wrote. Just want to say you seem to be on track. Don't believe the 18 hours fasting is necessary, though. Try to have three to even four smaller meals spread out over 12 hours and see if you reach better satiety. Vegetables are packed with vitamins and nutrients. Wouldn't skip those. Each person is different and our bodies differ too. What did you find works best for you to feel strong and keep a healthy weight?
Thanks for this Video Dr. Berry! Your seven-step approach to reversing fatty liver disease offers a refreshingly direct, low-carb perspective that challenges conventional wisdom. While traditional recommendations often emphasize whole grains and low-fat diets, your focus on eliminating sugar, grains, and vegetable oils aligns with emerging research on metabolic health.
To address being hungry, I started telling myself, "You ate ,and you ate good healthy food, you do not need more to eat ,you are not " truly " hungry". Because insulin resistance lies to you,it tells you that you are hungry when you're not. The mantra helps ,but I don't say it as much now because the IR is diminished.
My recent blood test indicated elevated liver numbers and a nurse told me that they typically see this in fatty liver disease. It didn't make sense to me because I'm not overweight and I don't consume nearly as much alcohol or sugar as I used to. But, if this is a case of mild fatty liver, I'll do what I can to fix it.
@@trader_shreelz7440 Apparently, there was nothing to worry about because the spike came from getting back into weight lifting again. I'm in the clear. Thank you for asking.
My mom was diagnosed with fatty liver years ago. She couldn’t quit the sugars and carbs. She would go for a little while, maybe a couple of months doing well but would always fall back into the desserts, breads, snacks. I think it was very much a psychological problem that she never addressed. She passed away last year of bile duct cancer.

Thank you for your video. I am currently 4 days into a 100 day fast aimed at finally getting rid of NAFLD which I have had for over 20 years. It annoys me to no end that my doctor did not make more of an issue of this when I was diagnosed at age 17and that he either didn't know or didn't share that fasting and removing sugar from my diet could help cure it. I'm trying to do daily videos during my fast but as I just started they are kind of terrible. :)
I think it’s a mistake to conflate starches with sugars that contain fructose. Starches break down into glucose, which can be processed throughput the body. Sucrose and high fructose corn syrup contain fructose, which can only be metabolized by the liver. So, soft drinks and fruit juices place a load on the liver that rice does not.
Rice and other starchy foods are still high on the glycemic index, they all give you a blood-glucose spike that you don't really need. Especially if you're already insulin resistant or diabetic.

Dr. Berry, I want to thank you for this video. I’d wanted to get back on keto for so long but could never make it stick. Watching this video changed it all for me. Great advice. I don't have this issue, but am researching info so i can assist someone else in our family. I will add though that despite eating omega 3 rich foods, i ended up developing very dry and split hair ends. After close to 3 mths of cod liver oil, my hair improved and my thyroid labs were due for a check and my doctor asked what had i been doing in the last 3mths. I said only change was adding cod liver oil. I ended up halving my thyroid meds during that visit. That was close to 8yrs ago. So for me, i noticed the benefits of cod liver oil.
I was just diagnosed a week ago with NAFLD. I see so much conflicting information on whether keto will help or not. Some articles say it will make it worse, some will say it helps a lot. I have a BMI of 24-25ish and don't look overweight, but I was into breadmaking and always eating high fructose snacks (granola bars, candies, junk foods). So I am going to give keto a go despite the conflicting info and see how it goes. I see a lot of comments about how keto has helped folks with fatty liver so am going to listen to Dr Berry :)
@@leconboy1061 I went on keto for about 4 months soon after I wrote my first comment. I lost weight easily and felt amazing on keto. But I started getting way too thin since I always felt so full and was hard to eat enough to maintain my weight, lol. So rather than staying on keto, I now eat a regular diet but with way less carbs (I especially try and stay away from grains and starchy carbs like breads and pastas) and it has helped me maintain a healthy weight. I used to receive sharp stabbing sensations in my liver but am symptom free in that regard. But I still need to schedule another ultrasound to see if my fatty liver has decreased. I am sure it has since I am about 12 pounds lighter than last year and feel much better. So while I cannot say that my NAFLD is completely reversed until I get an ultrasound, I can say that I feel better. I was eating way too much grains foods (like cereal, rice, cookies, etc)

Dustin... I am amazed how many people loose so much weight on ketovore... I have been over 2months on same and have maintained my weight

Good luck!
How did you get on brother ?
I'm curious how your next lab results were.

I couldn't save weight to save my life and was stuck at 313 pounds for years. I found out about fatty liver and focused on fixing that first - the weight began to tumble and ten months later, I reached 210 pounds. Keto and fasting 18:6 was the key.
Fantastic!
I’m stuck at 330 been eating low carb and fasting for years still stuck.. any advice. Could you share what you eat ..ty ♥️

Thank you so much!
what kind of oatmeal was he eating? Instant ??

Hi
can yoiu let me know what you have done
First I educated my self on UA-cam by watching Dr Berry as well as a bunch of other like minded health coach’s to doctors. I started a healthy keto diet and intermittent fasting. I got my digestive health in order, and focused on proper nutrition intake using vitamins and Whole Foods. Also walked the dogs more and started lifting some weights.
Update is 2.5 years latter and I’m still getting better in all

I was told for over twenty years, every time I had blood work done, that I had a fatty liver. I strictly followed diet instructions from several different doctors over the years. Different doctors, same wrong advice. I got sicker and gained weight. Last year I got completely different advice and started keto. Reversed fatty liver, lowered my blood pressure, lost 65 lbs and my biometrics results are excellent. Thank you for giving relevant and useful advice.
HUZZAH!! 🎉
Glad to hear you're managing it.
How was the cirrhosis diagnosed? Were you having symptoms when it was diagnosed or was silent all the way?
@@chaz6399 absolutely silent. Only abnormal liver enzymes for 16 years. Had two biopsies, one in 2007 & 2016 showing minimal scarring. Two years ago had a fibroscan and was told I had the start of cirrhosis.
@@chaz6399 Reversed the fatty liver. The autoimmune portion is tricky.
PS: Best of luck keeping that scarring at bay!

@@williamgullett5911 there is less than 1 gram of carbs in half and half. (I just googled half and half nutrition). I prefer heavy whipping cream in my coffee. It too has less than a gram of carbs, however it tastes a lot better because of the fat in it.

I also drink a 20 oz glass of water with 1 oz apple cider vinegar, 1/2 oz MCT oil, and squeeze 1/3 of a lemon in it. The coffee and that water drink gets me to around 2pm for an 18/6 intermittent fast each day. Its my first month doing it and I've dropped from 280 to 271 in 3 weeks.
The first thing doctor want to do is expensive tests not only to make money but for more experience.
They don't make $$$ by teaching people how to be healthy! Thank goodness there are a few that want to do the right thing.

With the information that is out there, I think more people die from ignorance and stubbornness than any disease.
They stay in denial because they don’t want to believe this is the way and they are not willing to break the addiction to sugar via carbs.

The lies during covid destroyed any trust I had.

They said NO fatty foods/meals. I told them about keto or vegetarian lifestyle change (veggies, fruits , herbs, IF) they said no don’t do anything extreme like that. I’m like wtf I’m confused now…
I know fruits and herbs heal the body that’s for sure.. but now I’m afraid to eat fatty meats cause they said don’t ..

7. Increase omega 3 in diet, no supplements.

Ok. Leto starts again tomorrow ( 10 pm here).

If you cut out all forms of carbs and didn't eat a lot of fats or meat, there isn't much left. What did you eat?
FML
Not to make this into a novella, but just last week I opened up a spreadsheet and started listing out all the sugar and carb-loaded foods my mother fed me and allowed me to eat as a kid.
Thank you for all this wonderful advice. Finally, someone giving a solution for the problem.

Very important questio i aish someone will answer this
Hi Wanda, how is it going? It's been two years since you first wrote.
Just want to say you seem to be on track. Don't believe the 18 hours fasting is necessary, though. Try to have three to even four smaller meals spread out over 12 hours and see if you reach better satiety. Vegetables are packed with vitamins and nutrients. Wouldn't skip those.
Each person is different and our bodies differ too. What did you find works best for you to feel strong and keep a healthy weight?
You videos make more sense to me than the other's I've tried to watch. Thank you!
Very good video on this topic. Would just add exercise to the steps. A walk for 30-60 min a day will help as well.
Sometimes I just grab some rocks of Himalayan salt and suck on it and my hunger goes away
How you doing now ?
@@trader_shreelz7440 Apparently, there was nothing to worry about because the spike came from getting back into weight lifting again. I'm in the clear. Thank you for asking.
My mom was diagnosed with fatty liver years ago. She couldn’t quit the sugars and carbs. She would go for a little while, maybe a couple of months doing well but would always fall back into the desserts, breads, snacks. I think it was very much a psychological problem that she never addressed.

What were your symptoms? When you got diagnosed, if I may ask.

Any updates?
Hello how are you now ? Do you still on keto ? Have you reserve your fatty liver please share, thank you for your time sharing 🙏
