      I only mentioned lenses I've used myself and I have not tried the 90mm yet although I hear it's amazing! Also, 135mm equiv is not my preferred portrait range as I find I need to move too far from my subject (I know it's a 135mm and what I'm saying is sacrilege haha).

    56 mm WR -tested on XT-5 and XS 20 . I have found that both cameras performed extremely well in the following :
    -Sharpness
    -Autofocus

    Super helpful list. I'm jumping back to Fuji after quite a while away the 3rd party support was a big surprise. I shoot the Vitrox 56mm 1.4 on Canon M, and that lens for the price is shockingly good. Not as sharp as the Sigma 56mm, but it very sharp in the center and the bokeh is less nervous. Shots have great character. Thanks for the video. Subbed

    I own the 2 Sigmas and the Viltrox 75mm. I'm really impressed by all of them. The tiny size of the Sigma 18-50mm at constant f2.8 is nuts. Some of my favorite images have come through the Viltrox 75mm this year.

    My all around portrait lens is the 35mm f1.4. Even if I own the 56 1.2 wr, the 35 1.4 is still in my hearth for the overall image quality, especially the atmosphere in the image it is able to render, and its size, that allows me to use easily also on my x-e4 in addition to the x-t5. In my opinion it should be on the podium.

    I have a Fujifilm XC 15-45. Its compact, has power zoom I am not fan of, and produces decent images along with my Fujifilm XE4. Can someone suggest if this Sigma will have better images quality than XC 15-45, specially given the fact that Sigma doesn't have Vibration reduction and is less wider compared to Fuji ?

  • @brownbear100
    @brownbear100 7 місяців тому +2

    Personally, as an owner of this lens, the 75 is rather overrated IMO.
    Compared to the 16-55 on the list but especially compared to the 90, the AF can really struggle with lower contrast scenes. The AF is comparable to the 56 1.2 LM WR, maybe it has the nose, but not much in it. For posed portraits you won't notice its stuttering but for candids, documentary, it can struggle to keep up at times. Not always, but it will creep up and surprise you and sometimes not just struggle but zoom all the way back out and in or just refuse. Not one for critical moments.
    Also the 90 is much better in the IQ department. The 75 can be great, but the flare and ghosting can often intrude a lot, even with the hood on. That can't be missed when comparing to the 90, which has none of this, is marginally sharper, edge to edge much more consistent. But maybe too perfect? I like the swirliness of the boke of the 75, but don't want it all the time, nor those eliptical bokeh balls. The 90 for sure is not always the most practical focal length - where I used the 75 today in church, the 90 would have been too long - but the 90 is a lens that is just a joy to use, excelling also as an all rounder short-medium tele, a great option for sports, travel, candids, street as well as portraits. The 75 is my character lens and for when the 90 is a bit too long. However I reach for the Samyang 75 more often than the Viltrox 75. In low light at f1.8 it exposes like the Viltrox does at f1.4 - brighter t-stop I guess. A secret weapon for low light with better AF, no vignette at all and weighing 1/3 of the Viltrox 75. Bokeh could be a bit better though.
    Although i sold the sigma 18-50 as there was a lot that bugged me about the lens from handling to IQ under certain uses, no doubt it was a good portrait option...if a bit short for me heing a 2.8. But as with the Sigma 56 1.4, the lack of aperture ring puts me off. Might still replace the Sigma 75 1.8 with the 56 1.4 though.
    Would be interesting when referencing older lenses to include used prices, as this is a major advantage. Yes the 16-55 is expensive new, but mine cost me less than I sold my Sigma 18-50 for. The 90 used is less than a used 75 1.2 also. And will hold that value.
    You should also check out the viltrox 27 1.2 if you can!

    If 75mm is on the upper range of acceptable "portrait" focal length, which focal length do you prefer to use on a regular basis? I am more into landscapes and wildlife and I'm considering one lens for indoor family images. I need something fairly wide because I'm usually in close quarters with a large group of people. I've been using the 16-80 for this but I'm starting to think I missed the boat by opting for the 16-80 instead of the 16-55 when I bought my XT-5.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  5 місяців тому

      I like my portrait lenses between 50-95mm (speaking in full frame terms). So, the 16-55mm is one of my go to lenses, as well as the 35mm. I just picked up the 50mm f/1 Fuji lens and have been experimenting with that as well. The main advantage of the 16-55 is that it's faster, but the 16-80 offers excellent image quality. If you are shooting groups and portraits at the same event the zoom really is the way to go.

    Here's a question for you, Pete... I'm a hobby photographer, but photography gigs made me more money than my full-time job last year, and I had much more fun doing so. I've been shooting with 2 canon R6 II, and the monster heavy lenses that come with them. 85, 70-200, on and on. I've decided to try the XT5. I'm intrigued by the size and the idea of shooting jpeg with the film simulations. What 2 lenses would you recommend I start with? I'd like to do travel photography and possibly even portrait photography. I'm not looking to replace my canons. But I tend to shoot less for fun with these cameras since they are so big. Sorry for the long message.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey, so first - kudos on turning your passion into a profitable business! That's just so awesome. A couple of things, first, remember that the XT5 isn't going to give you the same AF and performance speed as the R6, so just be prepared for that LOL. My go to all around lens is the 16-55 2.8. It's fast, sharp, and the range is great for so many things. I also love the 50-140 2.8 and those two as a combination would definitely cover most of your range. There are also a bunch of awesome fast primes in the Fuji ecosystem, so it really just depends on what kind of shooting you are going to do. Having at least 1 small lens will make you really appreciate the beauty of the compact system esp when compared to the larger Canon stuff. Hope this helps!

      @PeteCocoPhoto Thanks Pete! Yeah, I'm aware of the step down in performance. I'm ok with that. I'm really happy with the income photography has gotten me. But because of it, my cameras have become a tool more than a recreational device. If that makes sense. I think picking up the xt5 will encourage me to do it for fun. Learn a camera again. And having a smaller camera won't feel like such a task to just pull out and snap a few pictures for fun. The 16-55 is on my cross hair. So is the 56 1.2. I just didn't want to say that up front cause I wanted to see what your recommendation would be. Thanks for the advice! Love your channel. I'll keep watching your content.

      @@PeteCocoPhoto AF isn't really fast ...
      When shooting durin a wedding or conference, it's realyy annoying and disturbing, when everybody within 2-3 meters can hear the AF motor. No silent shooting possible. Not acceptable at this price point.
      No problem with the Viltrox 75/1.2.

    No way the Viltrox is better than the 56mm, even with the slow autofocus. The 56mm is sharper, smaller and better colors. Also Viltrox was to tight for me.

      I agree mostly with you but the AF is a huge negative to the FUji 56mm.
