    All three of those are great lenses and the 33 f1.4 is my favorite Fujifilm lens overall. But for me the XF 50-140 f2.8 is my ultimate portrait lens.

    Do not have the XF 33mm 1.4, but I do have the XF 35mm 1.4 and that is also a great portrait lens. The image quality is just superb and why it is considered legendary. It also looks great on the Fuji cameras, more compact than the XF 33mm 1.4 and while not WR and makes some noise focusing I find it to be just fine for my uses and it focuses plenty fast for me.

      I used to own the 35mmf1.4 and it is a great lens. More compact and budget friendly than the 33.
      I agree with you but overall the 33 is a better lens. But by no mean i dislike the 35mmf1.4, the 33 is just that good.

      @@ThierryGibralta Hi Thierry, thanks for the reply. Putting aside WR and LM focusing (faster and more silent focusing), and extra 2mm of the XF 33mm f1.4, what difference, if any, exists between the two lenses in terms of image quality in your opinion?

    • @ThierryGibralta

      From what I observed from my tests, Image Quality is better wide open, and overall on the 33 until f4 or so.

    I always liked/used a 35mm film lens for landscape/portrait and street. Lately i have come back to this 'view' for portrait/street and the fuji x 23 f2 fits the bill nicely. It gets quite close too

    I agree with you. I use the 33mm 1.4 together with the 18mm 1.4 - a perfect combo! my 56mm 1.2 goes for sale since it is not as versatile as the 33mm and not nearly as fast.

      How do you find the 18mm for portrait?

    • @olis.934
      @olis.934 2 роки тому

      @@ThierryGibralta The 27mm field of view is not the typical focal length for portraits but I use it a lot for family documentary photos as it takes the viewer right into „the action“ if you step near to your subject. The 18mm is by far the sharpest lens I ever used on my X-T3. I can absolutely recommend this lens - also great for travel.
      But I must say that even with this two lenses I often simply grap my X100V as the 23mm is right in the middle and it ist small, pocketable and just a great allrounder. Simply a more „fun“ camera while die 18mm & 33mm are my solutions for „professional“ work. What is your favorite lens if you could only use one lens?

    Bonsoir,
    Le black friday, les fêtes de fin d’année et les vacances d’hivers arrivant à grand pas, j’aimerais acquérir un objectif de portrait environnemental dans le but de photographier les familles, les enfants dans un contexte en intérieur en basse lumière sans flash comme en extérieur de jour comme de nuit (les marcher de Noel arrivent avec les belles lumières de nuits :-) ). Je shoot avec le Fuji XH2S.
    J’ai le 56mm APD 1er Génération don’t le bokeh et la focal sont très chouette mais vous connaissez son exécrable AF. L’an passé j’ai acheté le Sigma 18-50 qui est pratique mais globalement j’en suis déçu car le bokeh est trop léger pour moi.
    Je cherche donc un objectif avec une plus grande ouverture à 1.0, 1.2 voir 1.4. (pour augmenter le bokeh, avoir une meilleur monté en ISO en basse lumière) mais tout en gardant un beau piqué digne de 2023.
    Par contre j’aimerais un AF au top sachant que souvent je capture l’instant (les enfants qui jouent, des amis qui discutent, … ).
    En regardant vos videos, j’hésite encore entre un sigma 56mm, un Viltrox 56, le nouveau Fuji 56 ou alors changer de focal avec soit les 30mm/33 de chez Sigma/Fuji/Viltrox ou aller chercher le Fuji 90mm F2 ou le Viltro 75 voir 85 mm. Mais même si ces dernières sont meilleurs pour une bonne compression des plans, je crains que ce ne soit pas assez pratique en intérieur avec trop peu de recul pour faire autre chose que du head shoot. A l’inverse un 33mm n’est-il pas trop large pour avoir un bokeh sans déformation car on devrait trop se rapprocher de son sujet?
    Autre chose, je ne suis vraiment pas fan de Cats-eye, onion ring et aération chromatique marquée qui sont pour moi un facteur limitant. Par contre un vignatage ne me range pas. Sur base de àa que me recommanderiez vous?
    Merci à vous.

    • @ThierryGibralta
      @ThierryGibralta  9 місяців тому

      Bonjour et désolé du retard!
      Généralement je conseille toujours le 33mmf1.4. C'est vrai qu'il faut se rapprocher de son sujet pour avoir le meilleur bokeh mais en terme de bokeh, de qualité d'image, et de versatilité, pour moi c'est le meilleur objectif Fuji. Ensuite j'ai entendu de très bonnes choses au sujet du Viltrox 56mm donc si vous pouvez le tester c'est peut-être un bon objectif pour vos besoins.
      De ce que j'ai cru comprendre, l'AF du nouveau 56mm de Fuji n'est toujours pas à la hauteur des objectifs avec LM donc si l'AF est primordial, peut-être viltrox/sigma ?

    You asked, I’m answering 😂I agree with your list. Up until now for portraits I was using the XF50 f/2, great lens, but ever since I got the XF33 f/1.4 I switched, what a great performer, incredible lens, in “some” cases it’s replacing my XF16-80 for street photography. That was probably the best recommendation that I got from you, the 33mm just makes me want to go out and shoot. Be well.

    The thing is humans are interesting subjects in general and look great at any focal length. I personally have the 90mm, 35mm f/1.4 and 14mm. The 14mm actually takes great people shots if you want interesting perspectives - I just wish it had slightly shallower depth of field. That’s why the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 intrigues me, but it’s not a lens I NEED. I’d also love the 18mm f/2, 16mm f/1.4, 8mm f/3.5 or maybe the Samyang 8mm fisheye! All for various reasons/uses

    I've been buying/selling/trading lenses for a while now. Having owned all three, I have to say the 50 F1 beats them all. Im not just talking about its subject isolation prowess at wide open. Even at f1.2, or 1.4 or etc...you can tell this lens was made to be THE Fuji portrait lens. It's microcontrast is similar to the 90F2 and 50F2. The only weakness I can say is that it doesnt have LM (that wouldve meant an even heavier lens), and youre gonna need a ND for bright outdoor shooting

    • @ThierryGibralta
      @ThierryGibralta  2 роки тому +1

      I have unfortunately not tried it myself but heard a few issues from users like AF, image quality wide open is not great (although I assume people would not want to shoot wide open all the time) and as you said a need of ND that does not come with the lens.
      Any opinion on these points?
      Thank you for watching 🙏

    • @towncaptain7
      @towncaptain7 2 роки тому +2

      When it first came out, the AF was not as confident as it is now with newer firmware. Definitely have improved there. As for image quality, the depth of field is so shallow that even shooting on a flat surface can make edges look really soft. However changing focus to the edges can make it sharp even at F1. Microcontrast is already very good wide open as well

    I have 11 lenses.. I can tell you that It is rare that I ever use more than 5 of them. 33mm 1.4 is my favorite. 18mm 1.4 is great for the studio. 90mm f2 is my go-to for portraits as well as the sigma 56 mm 1.4.

    Nice list, but that list is way out of most FUJI users budget. 😅
    For those of us living in the REAL World (meaning NOT doing this for a job)... then I got a list for you!
    1. FUJINON XF 50MM F2 WR: Great compression, Excellent Resolution, and nice Bokeh. BONUS weather resistance.
    the reason why the 23/35 F2 lenses are not on the list, it's because they lack BOKEH on close subjects without making them look weird.
    2. PERGEAR 35mm F1.2*: Smooth Bokeh, Soft look, extremely affordable and has really GOOD Minimal Focus Distance! (I actually used it on a Wedding and it gave me a bunch of keepers)
    * Even better go for 7artisan 50mm f0.95 (just beware: can't focus close to subjects, and has terrible color fringing. So I sold it and kept the Pergear)
    3. PENTAX SMC 50mm F1.4: Amazing Bokeh, Excellent compression and dirt cheap! (the only reason why the Pergear is on top of this lens, is because of the newer glass has more contrast and sharpness than the Pentax 50mm and can focus really close!
    But in all seriousness, I appreciate videos like this, because if the day I can afford to purchase only 1 lens from this nice list. I have a place to look back and compare the images and results they can give. So thanks!!! Cheers!

    Great video 👌 yes absolutely the 33mm is the best portrait lens for Fuji at the moment, the 50mm f2 is too clinical and too sharp , the older 56mm is too soft at 1.2 and slow focusing, the new 50mm f1.0 is a serious contender to the 33mm and is probably the second best for portraits but the 90mm is on par to the 33mm but it’s a niche lens due to its versatility but the 90 does produce the goods and it’s just a longer focal length of the 50mm f2 and the 33mm just smashes all the rest because shot at f1.4 its tack sharp and produces better skin tones than the 90mm ,50mm and 56mm and the 33 mm has the right amount of colour pop and contrast at 1.4 as I own and have tested it against all my Fuji lenses and here’s a link below shot with the 33mm lens
