Natural live view is a good one to assign to a custom button or screen swipe if you use flash frequently. You can also use natural live view with the expanded RGB histogram to check for highlights being clipped. Great video Chris
Good tip my man! I also recommend using "natural live view" in lowlight situations for a much better preview of the scene. Since there is no tone curve whatsoever applied, you can you see the darker areas of your scene much more clearly.
Tip on flicker: The electronic flicker is a product of the line voltage frequency. You need to be aware of that frequency beforehand. In America, 60Hz. In many other parts of the world, it’s 50Hz. LED bulbs will cycle at double that frequency (120Hz or 100Hz). Set your shutter speed in multiples of that frequency, like 0.5, 1, 2, and so on (eg: for 50Hz 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, /200, etc).
I’m glad you shared that interval timer trick. I use it for family group shots that I want to _be in_ Cheers Chris! Thanks for being our Fuji manual in a much more entertaining way!

I knew most of these, learned several from you. One big challenge I face in getting the settings right on my X-T5 is that I shoot multiple genres: wildlife, macro, street, portrait, travel, landscape, abstract. Now that the X-T5 has good animal and eye tracking, I shoot autofocus-mostly with XF lenses-and manual focus-often with manual 3rd-party lenses. I’ve tried to optimize settings, and do use a suite of custom menus, which I continue to tune. Just got the camera back from a professional sensor cleaning-and a reset of many menu choices. Going through the menus in detail, I realize again that 1) since many of the possible menu choices are mutually contradictory, it’s complicated to get even generic choices like screen display set the way I want them. For example, I always want to see Aperture, Shutter, ISO in viewfinder & screen, but Aperture and Shutter Priority turn off the display of the other parameter. 2) Some choices have unanticipated consequences; e.g., shooting singles often requires significant processing lag for save to card, but shooting bursts with the same settings doesn’t! Sometimes I have been able to identify the slow operation, sometimes I haven’t. I never use flash or shoot video, so I don’t have to deal with those complexities. How do people manage to ride this beast?
The lag when shooting single could be because of the clarity setting? If you have clarity on anything other than 0 it will take more time to process the photo. If you shoot in burst it will ignore the clarity setting which makes the processing faster.
@@Brian444 there is also a Sharpness setting in the quick menu that pops up with the right button on an x-t200, not sure what it actually does. Any idea?

Thanks for the tricks and tips! One question though. Have you experienced problems in catching real red light when the light source is radiating; e.g. car tail lights, neon signs. My X-T1 just can not reproduce red correctly in those situations. Same applies to my cell phone camera. When the red is reflected light from any surface then red is perfect.

I saw the video and found the film simulation bracketing super interesting. I ran to my xt4 to do it. However, this can only be done with the original simulated films. It doesnt work with customized ones. Unfortunate! :( Fuji could change that! It would be awesome! Excellent video and tips @pal2tech!
Dear Pal2Tech, you mention under 8:06 that Natural Live View is good to see the scene when using the flash (when the exposure may otherwise be dark). Wouldn't it be better to say that the PREVIEW EXP./WB IN MANUAL MODE setting is best for this purpose? Sure, NATURAL LIVE VIEW can lighten a dark view up a bit, but if it's really a dark exposure setting, it won't do much. With respect to exposure, NATURAL LIVE VIEW mostly alters contrast and shadows ... plus the other things you mentioned. I think these two modes are best talked about together -- both involve the relationship (or non-relationship) between the viewfinder and the actual processed photo or RAW. BTW, I much prefer the PREVIEW PIC EFFECT name from the X-T2 for NATURAL LIVE VIEW, as it's much more self evident what it does! Why did they change this?
Thank you for your tips, iv been following your videos since i got my xt3. Now having moved to xt5. Is there any way to do multi exposure with the xt5? like the xt3 had this feature under the iso dial. But its not the case of the xt5. Any way to do this on the xt5? Really miss this on my xt5
Hello Chris, I discovered with the XH2s that it’s possible to use flash in electronic shutter!!! Do you believe 🎉👌📸 Big hugs from Portugal 🇵🇹 thanks again
For those who have a GFX, ie 100S, for the film sim bracketing, go into your drive mode to select the film sim bracketing since the GFX does not have a dial for that.
Something that drives me insane is that when using Natural live view, you’re locked in to the film sim you’ve selected. I wish it would show just a standard negative or bo film sim at all with natural live view regardless of selected film sim. Am I wrong about this or doing something incorrectly? I’d like to see my Acros setup and then switch to a color natural live view as more of a RAW preview. Any way to do that? Thanks for talking about film sim bracketing, that’s gonna be. Game changer for me!
I keep hearing about rolling shutter syndrome on the X-H2. In the majority of cases (rapid pans in a horizontal plane), is this still apparent if the camera is used in portrait orientation? If not, I wonder why the sensor cannot be read horizontally in electronic shutter mode...
Love your videos, always making me try new things... However I broke my camera... It fell really hard and fix it costs almost as much as the entire camera 😢... Can you make a video on how to deal with that type of trauma? 😢😢😢
Hi, I have issues with my exposure preview when I am in either aperture priority mode, or shutter priority mode. The exposure preview seems to work when in manual mode. My camera is I’m Preview EXP./WB IN Manual Mode - Preview EXP./WB and NATURAL LIVE VIEW is off. Please advise how I can recover my exposure previews when in aperture or shutter priority. Thanks
It would be a mistake to do that. Natural Live View has nothing to do with the RAW file. Even worse, the histogram and Highlight alerts are useless with Natural Live View on.
I guess the flickerless shutter speed depends on which region you are. I expected to have 50hz and 60hz option, but the ability to set shutter speed in small increments is welcomed as well.
Chris, Q: I've been using my X-T5 for 6 or 7 months now. I am a long time photographer (48 years) with mostly experience in Pentax, Nikon and Canon (for 12 years+). I can't figure out how to remove the "OK next" prompt after taking an image, in the (viewfinder, and also on the display as well)? It's the one thing that bothers me as I had it set to NOT show in the viewfinder/display initially, but after the reset of the camera, it's there... Do you know how to get rid of the "OK Next" text that appears? THANKS! 😂
Found it! the Set Up menu -> Screen Set-Up-> Image DISP. It is probably set to CONTINUOUS. This will give you the "OK Next" message. To avoid, that set the Image DISP. to a time option, or OFF.
Hi! Thank's for the new video! I have a question, but on other topic. Maybe you can help me. I have Fujifilm XPro3. My quick button "Q" was locked few days ago somehow. and on the screen appear yellow sign of camera with lock. I don't know how to unlock it. Maybe you know and can help me?
I remember that one of the early Fuji X cameras had a hot key to switch to silent shutter (long press one of the keys turned it into silent mode with electronic shutter, no flash and no beeps). Is this still hidden somewhere?
that film sim bracketing is amazing!! you knowledge of fuji cameras is kinda insane
I wish Fuji would update film sim bracketing to allow us to bracket with custom sims.
Totally agree. That is exactly the reason why I never use it. The default simulations are so stale once you configured some improved custom sims.
Was literally thinking this yesterday!!😮😂
And why stop at three! And also perhaps the choice to save just one RAW (if RAW+JPG setting is on).

Chris why can’t I change image size🎉. out of M ? It is in Fine/Raw but will not allow me to change to large. Thanks
Really thanks ‘cause I’m using Fuji since 5 years and I missed some features. Please what can I do to have my name on the wall of the studio??
Chris, can I use double exposure feature combining 2 C’ custom? Like I shoot first exposure on C1, the second on C3? Is that possible?
Love you! ❤❤❤
Hi,
I have issues with my exposure preview when I am in either aperture priority mode, or shutter priority mode.
The exposure preview seems to work when in manual mode.
My camera is I’m Preview EXP./WB IN Manual Mode - Preview EXP./WB and NATURAL LIVE VIEW is off.
Please advise how I can recover my exposure previews when in aperture or shutter priority.
Thanks
Can I use Natural Live View with RGB Histogram in order to shoot RAW ETTR?
It would be a mistake to do that. Natural Live View has nothing to do with the RAW file. Even worse, the histogram and Highlight alerts are useless with Natural Live View on.
I guess the flickerless shutter speed depends on which region you are. I expected to have 50hz and 60hz option, but the ability to set shutter speed in small increments is welcomed as well.
Chris,
Q: I've been using my X-T5 for 6 or 7 months now.
Flash does work with the electronic shutter, at least on my X-H2S.
How many menus for Silent photography? It’s one setting on my Nikon cameras!

Press and hold menu/ok
what is the model of this small tripod?
I remember that one of the early Fuji X cameras had a hot key to switch to silent shutter (long press one of the keys turned it into silent mode with electronic shutter, no flash and no beeps). Is this still hidden somewhere?
Hold display button back and you can then assign a shutter type to any function key of your choosing
Every time I think that the secrets you can tell about the Fujifilm are over... You find others to tell us.
You are infinite, not "shooting mode"! ❤
