    You've done it again! I was in Edinburgh last week, for two days, with 20 teenagers! We did a whirlwind tour of the city and the kids were amazed at what I knew about everything. I was able to use the closes to navigate and could tell them strange little stories about what they were seeing - all thanks to you and your videos. They did the Edinburgh Dungeons, found the world-famous parrot basket and they were even looking for Davy, the piper, with me! Twenty teens from El Paso, TX LOVE Edinburgh! You are awesome! Thank you for the awesome videos and all the wonderful info!!

    Hello! And thank you for information. As a child I lived in the Grassmarket. From the window I could watch musicians with their instruments and military uniforms rushing down the Castle Wynd to alight their buses back to barracks. Down at the West Port end of Grassmarket on the left hand was a large rock referring to many as a meteorite. Just across the road, near the pub, was the house that Burke & Hare lived in. As a 8 year old my Granny said to me, this may mean nothing to you at present, but when older you will learn the story them. At that time they gutting the place out. Now I am 70 year old who has been living in Northern Ireland these past 50 years. I also remember also the horse and carts which delivered beer. Milk and butter pats in grease paper and little bottles of orange juice. Anyway, like you I am a very proud Edinburgh Man….

    I’m a few days late to the history lesson, professor Broonford! Loved that tidbits about the Bronze Age and the gallow stones. I found Grassmarket to be a very peaceful spot, probably due to the wide spacing & less crowded.

    Little is known about John Gray, he was a police night watchman. Bobby was his best friend, always with his master. Nobody knows where he died, only the cause of death, which was tuberculosis, he was about 47 years old. Amazing the loyalty of Bobby, never left the grave of his master, till his own death. Portuguese use to say " if you need a friend, get a dog", that s true. Love the video! Recalling places where i was.🐶🐕🐶

    I lived in Edinburgh when I was about 3 years old. I lived really close to Greyfriars Bobby statue. I knew the story and I used to get my mum to take me out every day to give him a kiss because I didn't want him to feel on his own anymore. Kids are so cute lol

    We stayed here in Grassmarket! I would highly recommend it. It was incredibly close to all of the sights and some great pubs - only making it a few steps home after a few whiskies! Plus, the view of Edinburgh Castle is second to none - loved it! Great vid, as always!!

    There is a memorial stone out front the White Hart set in the pavement marking the exact spot where the bomb impacted 2 April 1916 (probably under one of the garbage bins during your filming). I was so surprised as an amateur historian that the Germans had made it so far North in their bombings in WW1, that I took a photo of the stone, which I cannot seem to share with you. I wish I had known some of these other details before I had visited last year.... but now I will just have to visit again to appreciate the historic details in person. I love your sharing your beautiful city, which makes me appreciate it even more. It is obvious you have much love and pride in your City and Country.

    Love all your videos! I'll be staying a week in your town in May, first time coming to Scotland. I'm from the states, have owned 3 kilts for years, play the pipes too. Question - I notice I rarely see anyone in Edinburgh wearing kilts, why is that?

    • @ClanBroonford
      @ClanBroonford  5 років тому

      It does not tend to be every day wear. Some people do just wear a kilt, and 99% of Scots like to wear the kilt. However it is mostly worn at special occasions. Weddings, Christmas, new year. But give a Scot a reason, and we will wear it.

    Hello from Canada! Loving your vids; "studying" them for our family trip in mid-Sept. Questions for our vegan daughter; difficult to find vegan (non dairy) options in restaurants? How's the wifi? Is it in certain types of places/restaurants or perhaps general wifi outside in squares like some places? Have you done a vid/trip to Alnwick? (Daughter and I did several years ago.) I am looking at Rabbie's Tours and they are reasonably priced - they have affiliate marketing, so YOU could check that out for yourself, maybe go on day tours and report back... JUST a thought. :) (I might do that when we come over, as we are doing at least 3 Rabbie's Tours.)

    I was born in this area in 1952 "Bread st" and it saddens me to see how much the grass market has changed for tourism , the grass market was originally grassed totally up the centre of the street where there are now cobbles , this could be where the name grass market came from ,The gallows stone is not original it was placed on top of an old victorian public toilet , there were no pizza restaurants these were added for tourists , although there was a lot of pubs some with different names , You failed to mention the west port or king stables road both streets that have loads of history about Burke and Hare who committed murder and , where the royal stables were, no mention of grannies green or the married quarters where poor families were housed. I have enjoyed your videos but please get all the facts correct correct
