I started watching about 9 weeks before we traveled to Edinburgh this summer. It was a good primer for the trip. Thank you for showing me which places I've have to go back and see.
I have lived I. Edinburgh my whole 43 years of my life and you have opened my eyes to places I never knew existed. Thanks so much I would love to meet you
Arrrrrgggggg!!! Happy/Sad. As always I love and appreciate your videos Tony. Just got back to the States on the 3rd after 15 days in Scotland. Happy to be in my own bed......sad that it's not in Edinburgh. I WILL be back. I have unfinished business with the Botanical Gardens and there MAY have been a few single malts that I missed ;-].
Superb Victorian and Edwardian Scots Baronial Architecture in Cockburn St. love walking on each side and looking above to the other side. Fantastic stonework and detailing. And in the closes and Wynds,
A fabulous video Tony... Walked down Cockburn Street a couple of times and loved the quaint little shops. Thank you for pointing out the owl and the pussy cat... Will be great to point that out next time I'm back in Edinburgh, like so many other things from previous videos. Great stuff once again.
My wife and myself love your videos using it to plan our trips to Edinborough March 17th of this year 2022 we hope to see you filming an episode that would be great have to apologize I forgot to like the videos but I'm sure I'll run through would like just one day sit down and like them all to help you out thank you for being a great Aid proclaiming our holiday
Great video! I've been up Cockburn Street a few times, been to the record shop, Eden and Pie in the Sky (great little pin badges and art cards in there). I'll deffo look out for the face of Lord Cockburn and the owl and the pussycat next time and am gutted I didn't visit there in August as I was collecting photos of Oor Wullie and I see there were two I missed on Cockburn Street! ☺
Great video man. I was born and raised in Edinburgh but live in Surrey now. Cockburn st famous in the 70s for its jeans and punk shops. Lots of flair jeans and brushed denim jackets. So nostalgic. 🙋♂️👍
Using Cockburn Street was a big relief after finishing up at the Christmas Market one night last November. My knees really appreciated the slope instead of the stairs as I made my way back to Hamilton’s Mews. I took the closes down however. Much quicker. I’ll check out more of the shops this next trip. The Military Tattoo gift shop was lovely and many items in there support the Military Tattoo and charities.
That brought back a lot of memories.I love Cockburn Street.Spent manys a night in the Malt Shovel.Haven't been to Edinburgh since 2007-I must remedy that.
When I worked on Cockburn St. in the mid-to-late 70s, it was all clothing shops...jeans and casual, funky clothes. The place at the top left of lower Fleshmarket Close was a health food store (and later Avalanche Records); there was an antique jewellery place or two (still one there). And there was Cockburn St. Market near the bottom...clothes, jewellery, incense...stuff! The was also Hot Licks, the record shop located across from where I worked, Silver Star, a jeans shop now occupied by Viva Mexico. And yes, the Toddle In, with Lois, Irene and Robin at the counter - I hated to see them go. And the Malt Shovel is still there. I really appreciated this 'tour'. Whenever I'm on Cockburn Street I'm more intent on getting to where I'm going than actually taking the time to absorb what's actually happening on the street. Next time I'll slow down and have a look. The owl and pussycat, Lord Coburn, and the Mary Queen's Close entrance are all new to me, so thank you for that.
There are still side streets off that road I've yet to explore. :D I remember in the late 80s Cockburn St. was the place to be as a student, low-price t-shirt shops and suchlike. It's gone upmarket since then but still a fascinating area.
Gah! I should've watched this video this morning! I was right there this afternoon and chose to go up Advocate's Close. And, I didn't get any food, but I can attest that Devil's Advocate does have some tasty drinks! Oh, and loving the new artwork.
We are actually planning a trip there hopefully in the next 2 years And we are planning on staying on cockburn street! Thanx for the video what an awesome tour 🤗
From the Scotts of Buccleuch...My first exposure to your videos and I really enjoyed it. On Cockburn St tour I loved the Scott Brother store at #40 Cockburn..my football jersey number!
I love the new graphic! Your videos have been super helpful. We’re definitely going to the haggis box and a few other spots you’ve recommended. Maybe my wife, Jorja, and I will see you around the streets later this month on our honeymoon. We’re staying near the royal mile the 21st to 26rh. Thanks again.
I’ve just ordered from natural skincare and I am going to the shop when we visit my family soon , so thanks for confirming where it is 👍🏼 I’ve never been on that street before
What a wonderful video! This is the first one of yours that I’ve watched, and have just subscribed. I’ve been doing a good bit of research on my husband’s surname - Coburn - and found this to be so helpful 😊

From the future into the past......love Cockburn (hee hee haa haa) BUT...you skip right past the Southern Cross Cafe with nary a glance. Lovely food. Lovely atmosphere...a bit "crunchy" but lovely and really good food.
Thanks for your interesting video's! Me and my wife planed a short holiday to Edinburgh ( for the first time ) at the end of november this year and we just know were to go because of your video's. Mabey we'll see you walking around at the christmas market or somewhere else, we would definitely come over to say hello!! keep up the good work! Greetz, your fans from Holland
On our recent visit to Edinburgh we met the owners of Viva Mexico. Great food and authentic Mexican. So good. Thank you for the nice comments. I forwarded them on.
Hello, I am 87 years old and when I was first married I worked in a restaurant named Ritchies at the bottom of Cockburn street opposite the rear of the council house. I used to serve Sean Connery with spaghetti bolognese. He was a friend of the owners son. It was before his James Bond days. He had been in a television show at the time as a boxer.
Tony, I'd love for you to cover recommendations of souvenirs that aren't just cheap bits and bobs. Like, if I wanted to get something proper that I could only get in Scotland that wasn't just a cheap tourist thing. Proper local makers and such.
I've been to the Loch Fyne Whiskies shop in Inveraray. Had a marvelous hour discussing and sampling beautiful whiskies from all over Scotland, with real whisky experts. Can we have a revisit to the Loch Fyne Whiskies shop on Cockburn Street? Interview the proprietors and highlight the different styles of single malts, talk about the distilling process and give some examples of quality and affordable as well as some of the mad unaffordable. I'm sure a whisky oriented vid would go down very well with some members of your audience. The shop would likely be up for it, free advertising for 30 minutes of their time and all that. Cheers, great channel by the way Embra's a lovely place and you showcase it well.

Mabe you can answer my question. On Victoria St. there is a second level balcony that has tables and I've seen people sitting out there. Heading down Victoria; it's on the right. Do you know what establishment that is?
