    Hi Tony.
I love your passion and inquisitive nature. I have always been the same but grew up in the days before UA-cam.
I would often visit many historical places and wonder to myself whilst I transporting my mind back to the day...unfortunaltely I never had internet or a platform to express myself as you guys do today.
Today... Gladstone Land sits next door to a shop called 'The Taste Of Edinburgh'.
In the 1980's that shop was called the 'Tartan Gift Shop" and was owned by my mums friends Sandy and Moira Leask.
My mum worked there for many. many years and (as a joiner) I carried out most of their maintenance and other work including converting the basement into a coffee shop.
Access to the coffee shop was through the vennel where the Jolly Judge signage is displayed.
There was a basement below the basement but when I opened the hatch it was damp and dark so I never went down.
I replaced the front windows of this shop which you can still see next to the steps going up to Gladstone tennaments.
In 1990's I worked in some flats in a building around the corner on the mound directly opposite the Bank of Scotland and next door to a jeweller.
Whilst there. I discovered a passageway leading to the basement and then further down into an underground street. I took a torch one day and followed it. This led me underneath the City Chambers and I passed through a few old gateways with rusty cast iron hinges still embedded into the stonework.
This was obviously part of old St Marys Close that was built over during the plague.
Outside the same building I noticed some writing in the stone work saying "Destitute sick"
I researched this and found that it used to be a hospice for homeless wretches.
The next day i explored the place further and found an old passageway that led towards Princes Street gardens.
The exit was closed off up with red brick.
I later found out that this was the original passage that they took the dead bodies of the wretched and homeless and dumped them into the Nor Loch.
Maybe you can investigate this further.

This historic building should be on everyone's to do list, like The Georgian House in Charlotte Square. (Then maybe a wee libation in the Oxford Bar?)
One building that is mind blowing is the former Apostolic church which is now The Mansfield Traquair Centre in Broughton. It features the wonderful wall art of Arts & Craft artist, Phoebe Anna Traquair. So amazing, but restricted viewing hours. Check beforehand, folks.

What a fanTAStic video!!! What was going on when you first released it that impacted the amount of views? It IS exciting and I KNEW that there was more decoration than the things we typically see of times past. I am not familiar enough with the Scottish people to know how social they were when away from home or if many people from foreign lands would routinely visit Edinburgh so the crest or crown could be one of several things. Just for grins and giggles, I am going to say that the drawing is a Victoria Crowned Pigeon from the New Guinea area. It’s a rare bird but was one of the most kept birds for some time. I could keep talking about why I think it is but this is about Gladstones and I definitely want to stay there!

Tony love this video! Totally missed this when i was up in March, it is definitely going on the list of things to do on my return and i am definitely coming back . Was not in Edinburgh anywhere near long enough to see everything i wanted to. The detail in that place is amazing! I love how infused you are in it so glad i am not the only person that gets like that . What i liked best about Edinburgh is that way that the past is there with the present in a very tangible way not bim and distant. Makes it feel a little out of time and i sort of feel that way maybe i have a little gallifreyen in me . Think maybe you do to .

Or would it have been open for tours before all the restorations were done? The lady that showed me through the building also told me about Mary King’s Close before it became a tourist attraction. I visited the close on a later trip.
