- The Rising of The Shield Hero Episode 17 would like you to believe Naofumi is at fault for not trying hard enough to make friends with the Heroes.... I call lies on that and they never gave him a chance to begin with. Fito has some really flawed logic on that. Ready for The Rising of The Shield Hero Episode 18 Review?

Actually in the novels Fitoria doesn't ask him if the tried enough. She simply states that Naofumi HAS TO try harder. The fate of the world DEPENDS ON THIS.
It's VITAL for her that the Heroes get along , even if it means to kill the ones present and summon another batch.
She doesn't talk to the other heroes because she wants her existence to be quite hidden, and she showed herself to Naofumi because she was raised by the previous Shield Hero. She know the Shield Hero WILL listen to her, for obvious reasons. It's clear at this point that the Shield Hero is the hero of the beasts.
Fitoria doesn't trust the other heroes as much as she does with the Shield Hero. That's why she's tasking Naofumi to make the effort , because the other heroes will be probably refuse to listen her requests. It's not clear , but maybe Fitoria senses and distrusts Myne, trying to stay away from her as much as possible.
Also, in the fight, Filo mimics Fitoria style of fight and she gains some bonuses.

qualivia well I said that abacchios soul had totally left his body. But in josephs case his soul was still intact. Otherwise he wouldnt have recovered from it. By tje way dont you have many patients whose heart beat stop for a long time and then start beating again after sometime. Joseph was juat lucky. He was given full medication. However, it's about the safety of their world. From Fitoria's perspective, Naofumi should've done whatever he could to try to make up with the other 3 heroes, even if it meant throwing away his pride.

We watch the anime, or/and read the manga. We are omniscient being who get every littles details about Naofumi's situation. But inside of the Story, nobody know that much of details.
Fitoria didn't know about the Situation of Naofumi in Melromarc. She's not omnipresent nor omniscient. As she said in the previous episode, she only came because she heard of another Filolial Queen (Filo), and she knew that at least one of the Four Heroes are with her.
On the whole situation about the Shield hero, she only know that no other Heroes like him. She didn't care about Myne's plot to shame the Shield, and she doesn't even give a f*ck about knowing the story.
Naofumi get the fact that Fitoria doesn't even give a f*ck about the details, she only want to know that "You (Naofumi) MUST tag along with the three other, or i kill you all." That's why he didn't even try to explain to her.

Fitoria just has very high expectations. He did try very hard, but there was possibility to try harder. Now that they are realizing the truth, Naufumi had given up entirely, so she expects him to continue trying. Don’t forget that the world is dependent on them coming together, she believes everything must be done to get them together.

I think that's what fito was getting at, he just gave up. Instead of holding his ground. Hence the "did you even try". For example, when he first sold balloon scraps to the merchant for money, he just let merchant believe whatever instead of verbally denying it. All he did was intimidate if you rewatch it.
He can't really convince them they literally were taught to HATE the Sheild Hero.

Naofumi isn't the Queen, though; he doesn't have even a minuscule fraction of the authority that she does, so whatever he says or does will immediately get brushed aside.

If you want people to understand the best thing to do is to go full on Dusik Kim or Master Zephyr on their sorry asses and beat some sense into them. They lack leadership. The only way a group like them is ever going to cooperate is if a leader emerges. It's one thing if they respect each other enough to cooperate without one but they need guidance. And naofumi is the most capable in all aspects.
In my honest opinion most people misunderstand this episode.
The thing between Naofumi and Fito were she asked "Did you even try" isn't referring to the country of melmarc. It's referring to Naofumi realizing that at least the sword hero might come to understand but rather taking a chance to run over trying to talk with the Sword. He basically let his only chance slide. Though it is mostly bad wording which makes people misunderstand this.
And as for the thing with Filo. Filo's problem is not being tactical, she's a fucking kid quit dreaming. Her problem is refusing to listen to Naofumi.
And in this Episode we see her clearly listening to what Naofumi says to 'win' the battle.
If you ask me, this entire Episode came down to bad wording, not bad writing.
Dino4002 MineCraft The anime doesn't convey it, but the WN/manga literally stresses that Fitoria is basically a child that is trying to be an adult.
Also multiple times has Naofumi tried to reason with Ren and Itsuki. The thing is that even when they have a feeling of something being right, they never act upon it. They are pretty okay with the current status quo, given the preferential treatment they get. Not to mention that Itsuki easily turns on Naofumi and accuses him of stealing their jobs.
Naofumi did try talking to the other Heroes. But only when he actually bad some evidence to provide. Saying "I didn't do it" isn't proof.
Myne stopped Naofumi from telling the other Heroes what happened by making uo the "brainwashing shield" lie. And even then, Naofumi still tmgave Ren the medallion he took off the Church knight, which is what made him and Itsuki start investigating.
Maybe Naofumi was wrong for not trying to prove his innocence from the very beginning, but the problem is, you can't offer proof if you have no proof.

In the LN's volume 1, Itsuki threatens to reconsider if the charges against Naofumi are valid. But **only** because the King gave him and Ren less money than Pedoyasu. They're not _that_ bothered by what's happening to Naofumi as long as they are also receiving special treatment.
Which really goes to show a huge level of selfishness.

Naofumi wasn't wrong for not try to prove his innocence from the beging. He was wrong for not try to talk to the Sword Hero after he saw the potential in him. If he really cared to clear his name he'd have gone to the Sword Hero a while ago. But honestly, he's not wrong for not clearing his name. Why would you clear your name for a country that doesn't want you? I'm just saying Naofumi stopped to care about clearing his name probably after the fight with the Shield Hero.
Edit: I know I'm sounding confusing about that last part, but Naofumi didn't know that the heroes were supposed to be summoned to different countries yet. This knowledge changes the entire thing though. He's not supposed to save one country, but an entire world.

Well you have to understand. All that petty nonsense is none of her concern. The world is at stake, bro. Give her a break.
In addition, having one or more but not all of the heroes die will most definitely be worse than having four new level 1 ones. Worst case scenario they'll have to power level.
The Filo vs Fitoria fight in the LN was a lot more serious and much more about learning to fight differently. The claw attack she displayed was something she had already acquired in an earlier fight. The fight against Fitoria was Filo slowly learning to mimic her movements. They fought in human form because Fitoria wanted Filo to know that her Filolial form was very bulky and an easy target, but in human form she was very small and agile. She wanted her to know that using her abilities and forms had to be done intelligently, and it wasn't just about power or technique.
The second main reason was that she wanted to test Filo's devotion to Naofumi and her will. The LN fight was much more deadly serious. It wasn't about proving strength. Fitoria said that Filo had to defeat her outright to be counted as a victory and the attack she launched against Naofumi almost tore a hole straight through him. She was very intent on outright killing all of them had Filo not been impressive enough.
About the 'victim blaming', 'bad writing', in the show and more in the LN he portrays himself as an asshole at almost all times. You can argue that pretending to be the bad guy did him no favours in terms of clearing his name and that he should have tried harder to make inroads with the other heroes for the sake of the world. This is Fitoria's perspective anyway.
He runs away from Melty because he distrusts her. If he was more open with people he might have avoided the whole kidnapping charges and been able to work with Melty to get his name cleared right there in the capital.
I think that many people (you as well chibi) aren't looking at it from the perspective of Fito, Which is someone who while is very knowledgeable, she can only see what other Filorials see and hear just as much so her questioning is coming from someone wanting to hear the Hero out.
But thats the thing; Naofumi never really did try... sure he brought it up once in a while but he never followed through.
He never took the first steps toward them until he tossed the cross and that is not a well documented in the public view event so how could Fito know of it.
Naofumi is a quitter and half-assing the attempts he made in the past mostly. All his biggest protests were behind closed doors with the people that would not want such arguments known.
Sure the towns folk did love him... but when it would turn the king and a princess against them to do so why would they back the shield hero only.
Chibi your smarter than this; you should not need me to point out how Fitorias opinion is deserved. She does not watch the show so why would she see him any other way right now.
But, if your still confused then the up coming 5+ episodes should give examples of heroes working together and then starting to work things out.
remember in arguments all parties are wrong and need to shut up and leave the emotions at the door.
I just looked at it as she was asking, "Are you SURE you've done EVERYTHING in order to make up?"
I feel she was stressing that because she DOESN'T obviously want to kill the heroes.
Also, the way they played out Naifumes reaction to it was that he was so consumed by rage that he was unwilling in ANY manner to even CONSIDER talking to then again (though very much justifiably so on his part).
The fight scene DOES show Naifume encouraging Filo to think more.... though.... she, in the end, did win out in brute strength. So I agree that was a weak point.
However, I took it as the Queen was trying to see if she could be creative with her attacks and take SOME advice from Naifume. As well as was seeing how far Naifume was attempting to put faith in Filo.

Actually I believe Fito's question was reasonable and it was clearly shown that her point was valid in Naofumi remembering moments he could have tried to explain himself.
Now that he has a clear head, he has the opportunity to talk things over with the others... IF they even survived the random MeguSPLOOOOOOOOSIONN that is.
I understand your thoughts but I disagree in saying the writing was bad there on saying Naofumi didn't try enough. Because the whole time she talked towards him and those points she made not once did he speak up and explain himself or situation just as he didn't back in the kingdom. I felt that was more the point she was trying to show him. Also it isn't like Fito knows all, remember she is only going on what she has heard. Just my thoughts, still love ya and keep up the work.

Noafumi really didn't try to plead his case though. Moto was a lost cause but ren and itsuki put him down on the first episode. Itsuki probably would've believed him after the dragon arc but he gave up on them and realistically i can understand why. Why keep bringing it up if it doesn't clear your name, but i also understand fito because he did essentially give up on the other heroes.

Actually I kinda disagree with you on this one. Fitoria just want the 4 heroes to work together, she put big pressure on Naofumi 'cause he's the only "legit/strong" & knowledgeable enough hero compare to many others. This was from her own words btw.
She clearly very desperate, that's why she even cried & pampered by Naofumi. I mean she lived for hundreds of years to guard the world & keep her master's promise to wait for another generation of heroes, only to found lame & half assed guys (for most of them).
Naofumi is still filled with anger after all the shenanigans & it's very understandable, but maybe that's exactly why Fitoria particularly asked Naofumi to be a the bigger/better men & forgo his past experience for a better future. I mean clearly Fitoria saw her master bits in Naofumi & she didn't want awful things happened to him, the probability of repeat from her master.

Later (probably 2nd season of the anime) they will encounter the spirit turtle. It was more or less an emergency-option sealed away from a former hero. The spirit-turtle harvests the souls of the dead and as soon as she has the souls of around half the world's population she will be able to make a shield that stops the waves forever.
So basically it is either "win" the waves and sacrifice half the world's people or fight the turtle (no small feat in itself) and try to stop the waves yourself.
Also, Spirit Turtle best girl.
Right now all 4 Cardinal Heroes can be consider low level, so killing them now is still more profitible than hoping they get along. Besides, Fitoria can actually help new heroes level up for some time, so they won't have so hard start.
About Fitoria asking Naofumi did he try hard enough:
First, she doesn't care nore know about politics that happend in past years.
Second, Naofumi problem is fact, that he accepted that others will blame him for what he didn't do and even now, after how much Ren changed and started doubing Church and Malty, Naofumi STILL refuse to cooperate with them, despite that right now is probably the best moment to clear his name, at least for other Three Heroes.
Fito has been fighting constantly, remember what she said in the previous episode about how she has been going around the world fighting instead of the heroes. Naofumi and company aren't connected to the dragon hour glasses in each of the other countries so Fito has been fighting off the waves by herself.
Originally each hero was supposed to be summoned alone into each of the 4 major countries but Melomaric summoned all 4 together thereby totally screwing over the other countries Sheltvelt, Shieldfreedon I forget the name of the fourth major country. Why do you think the queen has been absent all this time she has been going to other countries to try and fix the problem her husband made.
There is no way for Fito to know anything about what happened between Naofumi and the other heroes she only knows that if they don't get their shit together the world is doomed. If you think about it Naofumi didn't try to go back and fix things with the other heroes, while yes they were total dbags for the most part to him he has also came at them in anger almost every time they have met up. Which is why in retrospect he did realize that Fito was in part correct about that. I think in their conversation Naofumi realized that he needs to just sit down calmly with the other 3 and talk things out and work out their problems.

I don't think she's saying he didn't try hard enough, it's the fact that he never tried to clear his name. He just basically donned the mantle of the anti-hero, and yes, when presented, he would deny claims made against him that they were false, but he never made any actual effort or put into motion any plan to actually clear his name. Granted, even if he did, it's very doubtful they'd believe him without cold hard evidence. Fitoria is an outside observer, she doesn't FULLY understand what Naofumi has gone through or his thoughts. However, she has been watching him and the other heroes through all of this, so she does know to some degree of what happened. Fitoria is also seemingly unaware of the corruption within the royalty (the King + Myne). Naofumi essentially stopped trying to actually fully clear his name after the initial accusation he faced. Yes, he denied the sequential claims agianst him, but never actually tried to clear the infamy he had gained.
Also, Fitoria was not blaming Naofumi, she was bringing up the fact that Naofumi never really put any plan into motion to clear his name, he just accepted it, moved on with his life but ofc, held grudges, hatred and anger towards them.
And as other's have said, Fitoria was kinda detatched from the world, and doesn't fully understand Naofumi's situation. In her eyes, it's sorta black and white. To her, the Heroes MUST band together in order to defeat the waves, no matter their differences. If not, the world AND it's people are doomed anyway. That's all that matters, since it was her promise to hero who raised her.

I really have to disagree on this one, Fitoria lived for centuries that she knows that she needs to desperately make the heroes work together. Plus, as to why Fitoria choose Naufumi is because he is more logical and perspective about any situation that comes. When she ask the question if Naufumi even tried to persuade the other heroes, which despite 16 episodes, 5 LN volumes, 20+ manga chapters that depicts Naufumi tried to convinced everyone,,, yes he never tried it again for a second time which he gives up doing so just because it is pointless to talk to them, He just accepted it. The way Fitoria had done this to Naufumi is also the fact that He is still drowned by anger that she tries to pull him out of his misery. And abut Fitoria fighting Filo in human form, She was testing Filo is she can really fight in that form when there might be situation that needed to, it was to test her as Fitoria's successor to the throne and to future wars.
This is just my view ans a LN reader, now I'm questioning how bad the anime adaptation becomes when Fitoria got introduced last episode.

Sorry Chibi, but all your great and thoughful argumentation against Fito's question an all, I really find it quite dumb an I'll explain why to you.
First of all, let's be real, after the moment where he was dragged before the king by the guards the first time, Naofumi really never tried to clear his name toward the other heroes. In front of the king at that moment wasn't the best time to try and talk to them, but once you've proven who you are and what you do, the others heroes (except for the spear idiot) might have listenned a little more an he could have proven to them he was innocent. With just that, the question IS legit.
But it's not the only thing, Fitoria clearly stated she wasn't following them and didn't care that much about them, so she didn't even know if he tried to clear his name, so asking the question is also a legit way to learn more about Naofumi and the other heroes. If Naofumi said he tried, she might have trusted him and looked at the other heroes with even more distrust and it might have even more steeled her mind in killing them if Naofumi can't get them to work together. Which makes the question even more legit for Fitoria.
The problem with your interpretation of the question is... You think about it as someone who watch the anime and know about what happenned, not as one of the character who clearly doesn't have all the answers. It is a very flawed way of looking at that scene really.

There's more going on here than "the Heroes don't get along." Ren, Itsuki and Pedoyasu have been drinking the Kool-Aid for months and they instantly believe what they're told by Melromarc without thinking for themselves.
Episode 17 was pretty dam good seeing the other Shield hero was nice and the fight while not big was some nice development. The scene with melty riding fitoria was wholesome and so was the flash back scene.The end credit scene was cool seeing the sword and bow hero but I guess they got nuked or something.

To everyone who is saying Fito's opinion is bad writing: Are you sure? Remember Fito hasn't been watching the anime nor has she read the LN or the manga. She has to rely on what she can learn from people in the world. How many of them are talking about all the things Naofumi has done in his defense? Very, very few. So all she knows is that the four heroes aren't getting along and putting her world in danger. I think it is very GOOD writing not to give Fito knowledge she shouldn't have.

In fairness to Fitoria, Naofumi might... MIGHT... have had a chance at finally getting through to the others if he set his anger and rage aside and honestly talked with them. Sword and Bow investigating the Church proves that. Also, the Heroes NEED TO WORK TOGETHER! To Fitoria, it makes sense that Naofumi needs to be the bigger person and get the other 3 in line and on the same page.
That said, I'm with Chibi. Literally everything Naofumi has experienced has shown him that there is NO CHANCE of reasoning with the other Heroes (except maybe Sword). All 3 of them, along with the rest of the country, turned their backs on him without even trying to hear him out. If he hasn't tried as hard as he should have, it's because he has every reason to think that it would've been completely pointless.
The scene seems to come down to 2 differing points of view: one that's had to deal with a truck load of crap because of the constant scheming against him with next to no help and another that truly knows what's at stake and may be the only one that has clue how serious things can still get with the Waves. Given the Naofumi is the POV character, we are a bit biased towards him and his viewpoint. I still side with him and Chibi, but Fitoria isn't necessarily in the wrong either.
But sword and bow started investigating the church because of Naofumi, so he already appealed to them honestly speaking. It's only spear hero really who's too dumb to get it. So he has done what he can and it's slowly bearing fruit. Problem is, if you want to mediate conflict between people and you are an outsider who has the bigger picture, you don't pick out one person and tell them they have to be the better person. Why not gather them altogether and mediate their conflicts properly? I like Fitoria, but I'm afraid her approach was kinda dumb, so I can understand why people found her to be rather annoying at this point. That being said, she doesn't really come off as someone with good people skills, that's part of her charm.
@@orwellmushaikwa2591 I agree that Sword and Bow (mostly Sword) have proved that they are willing to hear Naofumi out at least in the right circumstances (ie seeing Myne trying to kill her sister while screaming about how Naofumi is supposed to be the bad guy). That said, he doesn't know that they are actually investigating. He more or less tossed the rosary to Ren and hoped for the best. Not the greatest plan, but it was all he could do at the moment.
As for Fitoria only talking to Naofumi and not the other Heroes, the popular notion (and one that I think makes sense) is that he's the only one she trusts enough to reveal herself to since he's the Shield. Also, I don't think she is 100% aware of everything Naofumi has had to deal with.
As I said in the edit of my main post, the two are working with specific, incomplete points of views. Naofumi has had to deal with a ton of crap with little to no help from anyone outside his party. Fitoria knows how important it is for the Heroes to work together and how bad the Waves can still get. Fitoria and how she approaches the issue leaves plenty to be desired, but I don't think it's anywhere near as dumb as people are saying and I actually really like her character.

I also like her character, but do think she is flawed, or at least you'd expect with her character having lived a long life to have dealt with this differently. Yeah, she only trusts shield hero, also doesn't fully know Naofumi's situation in detail. Still, in her position and with the knowledge she has, if she really valued the heroes working together. She would take it upon herself to gather them and mediate their disputes so that they can reconcile and work together.
As for Naofumi, he may not have known what Ren and Itsuki were going to do, but he definitely did his part and imo, just by entrusting them with that information, and hoping they would do the right thing. He actually did all he could on his side. Fitoria really would have no way of knowing this sure, but again it all goes back to how flawed her approach was in handling the situation. Imposing on one, instead of imposing on all of them to cooperate with each other. She's way more powerful than them combined that she had nothing to really fear from the other 3.
It's almost like, she was willing to consider killing all 4 of them in order to get new heroes, yet trying to convince all 4 of them to put their differences aside was a nono? Even if I don't really sympathize with the other 3 heroes, isn't that a bit unfair that she was basically putting their fate on what Naofumi says without even giving any of them a chance. If she was as desperate as she's meant to sound, she would try to convince each of them before taking drastic measures.
For me, that's where the writing flaw really comes into play, because Naofumi has been centered as the main character, it has to only be him who can answer to her. And honestly, if Naofumi was really evil and the other 3 were good. it wouldn't matter at all because they would all die. Lol the more I think about it the more her thought process was kind of messed up. However, it was structured such that she realizes how much of a good guy Naofumi really is, and entrusts her will only to him as the main character. XD

Since I like looking at both sides of arguments like this, I would like to ask if you really believe that the other Heroes would even listen to her. Fitoria does mention that Naofumi is the only one she thinks is a good guy/has any sort of faith in. I like to think that Ren would hear her out at the very least. Itzuki might, but I can't be sure given his ego. Spear, between being wrapped around Myne's finger and having that creepy angle fetish, would be an idiot like always and just try to flirt with her.
(I'm imagining this is all in her human/angle form, not in her 10-story-tall bird form. I'd like to give her enough credit to try and be diplomatic and not going straight to "make nice or I'll end you idiots". It would be cool to see how the 3 would react to meeting someone who not only could and would kill them if they turned her away, but also probably dwarfs Glass in terms of raw power)

So I would also like to think he'd seriously hear her out. Itsuki on the other hand is a bit more stubborn and I'm not too sure what he would do. Like Motoyasu, he's the type who might just conclude that Naofumi is trying to get to them through the filolial queen. However, that could easily change when she shows him she could easily swat him like a fly even in her humanoid form lol. But then again, he seems to go along with what Ren says most of the time, so he also has a possibility of listening to her.
The only one who's mostly a lost cause like you said is Motoyasu, but considering the best scenario where both Ren and Itsuki take her word seriously, he'd only have the choice of going along with them or continuing his stupidity with Myne. He'd probably still follow the latter, but at least 2 of the heroes would be willing to take what she says seriously.
I agree with you on a lot of things. I guess I was really just trying to bring a different perspective on the implications of Fitoria's actions. I personally didn't have much of an issue with her only imposing on Naofumi. In a way it made him stand above the others more, that even a legendary Filolial Queen was only willing to trust him. But it's not a really organic way to go about it and is a little unfair on the others. Then again, the other heroes haven't really been fair on Naofumi so I guess it comes back full circle lol.
In his bitterness and anger, Naofumi really didn't try to defend himself. Fitoria is calling him on it, pointing out that he has to try because the fate of her world is riding on the Four Heroes cooperating. If you look back over the course of the series, only at the beginning did the Heroes even have something vaguely in common, but there were fractures even then; Naofumi was pretty naive, yes, but the other three were already arrogant, insisting that this new world was just like a game they'd played.

not sure where you get the 'no trial' thing and how you call what Fitoria is saying is a 'lie' neither are accurate. the trial was a mere formality in front of the king and court with 'evidence' presented 'proving' the lie being perpetrated. he did deny the charges but with the entire (king's) court against him and evidence presented that was enough to convince the 3 other heros he gave up trying to declare his innocence and that is entirely on him. As Fitoria said, he walked away without continuously insisting he was innocent. once a person stops denying the charge and seeks some way around the proceedings why should anyone believe said person? they have through silence admitted their guilt as Fitoria correctly states. Naofumi gave up and let the circumstances he was caught in break him instead of enduring and being able to hold the high ground later when he should be in the perfect position to do so.
In the manga filo learns how to absorb magic attacks Into her clothes and that claw attack was something she copied from fito but she never landed a hit and fito still called it filo's win
Concerning Fitoria asking Naofumi about whether he tried to convince the other heroes of his innocence, a few things to remember:
1. Fitoria is not omniscient, and very much does not know the specifics of what has gone on with Naofumi and his party. This is evidenced by how she had only learned about Filo's existence a day or two prior.
2. With Fitoria's lack of information in mind, it makes sense that she would ask if he had tried, as he had not given any indication one way or the other up to that point. It was then Naofumi, upon reflection, who said that no he hadn't and, going off that, Fitoria points out how refusing to defend oneself is effectively an admission of guilt. Again, note that she is only going off of what Naofumi has said, as she has no other information to go off of.
3. The stance that Fitoria is trying to counter is Naofumi's assertion that reconciling is /impossible/ and his absolute refusal to even attempt it. This even persists against threats to his life and the assertion that they MUST work together or else the world will end. Naofumi has not tried to say how he has tried, only that it cannot happen. I think it is a legitimate question to ask, in that situation, "wells have you even tried before saying it's impossible and dooming the world and/or the lives of you and the other heroes?"
4. Naofumi is a prideful, grudge-holding SOB. I am not saying that he isn't justified in his grudge or his stubbornness, but at this point it is VERY much his pride and desperate want not to get hurt again that is keeping him from attempting what Fitoria is saying HAS to happen for the sake of the world and his own life. I see his answer to the "have you tried" question being more introspective and him seeing how he COULD have done more, or at least tried to ... and, vicariously, how perhaps it isn't so impossible for him to try now instead of just saying it can't be done. I see this as a moment of growth for Naofumi, grappling with his past demons and fears, and becoming even more of a hero who is willing to battle against his own fears and pain in order to try what previously he thought was impossible.
5. Fitoria is not human, not really even mortal at this point. Her perspective is focused on the macro, global scale and not necessarily on the personal/individual scale. She does not gaf about an individual human's feelings when it is at odds with the survival of the entire world. Note that she is not cruel, malicious, or even lacking in compassion and empathy. She does, however, have a very different perspective on what the value of the personal struggles of a single human are, and given the situation and knowing a good deal about what she is considering I can't say I truly blame her or can call that perspective "wrong".

I've have a theory for a wile now that Naofumi didn't get lucky when he got Filo, but that his potion upgrade type skills affected the egg causing a it to hatch a queen.
Now that we know that the peeves queen was raised by a shield hero I'd say that backs it. Maybe a queen only comes about from a shield hero.

I'v read the manga a good bit ahead and really from that it's basically saying "you need to work together or you'll all die" is kinda what birdo queen is saying. As the treats they face are something they cant handle by themselves with their own parties. So if he wants to survive he has to figure out how to get them all to work together with him before it's too late.
I don’t blame you for feeling that way. I get where Fitoria comes from, yet Naofumi is not at fault for anything he did. She pissed me off in the manga and light novel, yet not as much here, probably since she is less savage in the anime.
Also, the dude in the flashbacks doesn’t show up until way later on in the light novel (volume 20 and 21 of the LN), just something I felt like saying since that was anime original

I mean, how much fairness can you expect from a world whose preferred tactic for dealing with a crisis is to summon four random strangers from a different universe and force them to fight? No Chibi it's not bad writing! This is honest writing. Fito has her own perspective. As in real life she may decide to apologise to Naofumi in response to future developments. Keep in mind no influential character has ever said, Sorry Naofumi I was wrong, I shouldn't have done that! Please forgive me! Naofumi being who he is would be thankful for the consideration. Even if this isn't the case I still smell character development.
She's a bird. What do you expect? Fito is a souped up version of Filo. Power doesn't grant you intelligence or wisdom. The second princess thought the same way until her sister tried to have her killed. Unity is important. But it goes two ways. It's clear the church of the three heroes summoned all four to prevent another country from summoning the shield hero and throwing their best adventurers behind him, thus possibly making him the strongest hero. That's why they don't want him to leave. It's clear that a previous shield hero caused a revolt by supporting the demihumans and downtrodden. That's why he's the devil in their religion.
I think what she meant by trying, is that she wants the heroes to reach a common ground and at least be able to cooperate with each other. Because right now, Naofumi and the heroes are just at each others throat--especially the spear hero.
And like Fito said, if the heroes aren't going to cooperate, then they are doomed to failure.
They can't even beat Glass--save for Naofumi who can at least hold his own against her. The other 3 are just a laughingstock lol 🤣

Fitoria expressly states that she's been going around to various countries to help fight the waves, but that she's reaching her limit on what she can handle on her own.
Consider that Fitoria is not all knowing. She neither knows or cares about petty human squabbles. She is also a filolial like Filo, while clearly intelligent, she is simple minded in some ways and acting on the will of her own Hero.
Yes, Naufumi was pushed into a corner, but after he left to level up, he never sought the other heroes or to clear his name. He gave up a long time ago. Reconciliation was never on the table until Fitoria asserted that they will die one way or another if they don't.

I think that it’s relatively fair, at least from fitoria’s standpoint. She doesn’t know the full extent of his feelings and a whole world of countless people are being killed, so it’s fair from her to expect him to use the power that was thrust upon him and work together even if it hurts him.
Naofumi doesn't refute the charges except for the first time where they bring the false evidence. He gets angry and leaves. Whatch it again. Gets angry, storms away. He throws it at them about the perspective they have and only recently engaged the sword hero (Ren) to look into the hinky stuff going on. Which effects the bow hero (Itsuki) to look closer. Gets angry (frustrated, enraged, depressed, anxious, confused, etc), walks away.
Chibi, I feel like you Fito is saying to make peace with the other heroes, being friends with them is an ENTIRELY separate action! That Naofumi is in no position to do.
Yes. There's nothing Naofumi can say to fix this because his word carries no weight. He *needs* to get tbe Queen so she csn end this whole thing. Also, the other Heroes are being harmed by the misinformation they've been given. They don't even know the Waves are happening outside Melromarc and if they aren't told, morenof the world will be harmed.

She didn't meet any of the other heroes and only met Naofumi by accident 🤦🏾♂️. She's not going out of her way to find the heroes

@@UmmItsMJ She already said she's trying to stay hidden and the only reason she talked to Naofumi is because the previous shield hero raised her and she believes Naofumi is better than the other heroes. She probably wasn't even thinking about them until Naofumi showed up.

Na Firo in the Web novel isn't any different she fights on instinct. Her instincts do get better though. If you are looking for that kind of growth I would look to other places than Firo.

To be fair, it seemed like fito was asking naufumi to try harder, not blame him. And naufumi recalled a moment at the hourglass where he could have stated to the other heroes that hes innocent. They might not have believed him, but at least he voiced his side of the argument
Fitoria is not a human, she's a bird with super powers. She isn't able to understand the nuances of human society that keeps Naofumi from getting along with the other heroes. She understands the level of threat the world is facing and that all 4 heroes are necessary to stopping it and she sees Naofumi acting defensive and hurt by himself instead of trying to befriend the other heroes. If she truly understood what was happening she'd probably start by seperating Spear hero from Myne and working the process from his angle but from her limited perspective this is the best way to start fixing things.
Completely agree, this is one of my biggest pet peeves. He even tries again on multiple occasions.
The anime made a mistake in both the books and manga, Fitoria tell Naofumi to try harder to clear thing's up with the other heroes because they will die in the increasingly Deadlier waves.

Yes a lot of it is on the other heroes, no question there, but it takes two sides to have an argument. Now if Naofumi had told her everything he has done to refute the claims against him, her tone might have been softer at least.

You have to look at it from another perspective to understand it. She is old.... very old. People have constantly disappointed her for the majority of her life. If the heroes refuse to work together then she would prefer to kill them and summon new ones. It is not that she has anything against Naofumi. In fact it appears she actually really likes him. It's just she has no patience for squabbles of heroes. The world desperately needs the heroes in order to survive. And they have fallen into in fighting almost every time.
In the LN, Fitoria specifically has Filo fight in human form so she can teach her how to do so effectively. She even says that her filolial form I'd ideal for fighting g monsters of larger size, but that when going up against humans it is actually more effective to fight in human form. Also there was a bit more development in the fight with Naofumi mentally remarking how Filo was adapting her fighting style to better defend against and counter Fitoria. So the anime fight was a bit disappointing, though for time constraints I think they did the best they could.

@@USAirForceJacob I agree that I can understand why Naofumi didnt try harder (or really at all) but he's basically fought against trying to clear up any misconceptions and at times even played into his negative reputation. When Myne claimed he had a brainwashing shield, the most obvious response is "wouldn't I brainwash you to leave me alone right now if that was the case?" and she'd really have no argument against that. There have been multiple times where he could have reacted much smarter in order to clear his rep.
In the Manga and Light Novel; Fitoria never tries to shift the blame upon Naofumi for not trying hard enough, instead she simply states that it's unacceptable for the heroes to be fighting among themselves. Later on in the Light Novel, Fitoria begins to understand why Naofumi was reluctant to make up with them, as she didn't really grasp the severity of the situation.
She was even surprised that Naofumi hadn't fallen into despair sooner before she met him, finding it to be a miracle that he didn't succumb to the Curse Shield earlier.
It's lucky for him that he has somebody by his side who actually believed in him. What's that saying? If you kick a dog enough times, it's going to become mean and bite back?
@@SnowyWolborg The author also made a comment in a QnA that; if Naofumi didn't have Raphtalia then Naofumi would have been consumed by the Curse Shield and he may have killed one or more of the other three Heroes, until Fitoria killed Naofumi and the last survivors. Which would lead to Melromarc being invaded by every other kingdom.
The first half of your video, about shit being Naofumi's fault is exactly what i was asking myself when watching.
*PLEASE READ (Clarification + Fitoria explained)*
Since the majority seem to not understand the plot at all, pls let me explain what exactly Fitorias point was.
From Fitoria's point of view the four cardinal heroes *must* work together in order to defeat the waves. There is no other option. Fitoria asking Naofumi, if he ever tried to prove his innocence, was not to blame him for the whole situation, but it was to point out that there is still hope to fix the situation. She was giving herself and Naofumi hope that not everything is lost yet. She was not blaming Naofumi, but just pointing out that not every card has been played yet.
Another thing i wanted to point out is that Naofumi is right to say that he hasn't tried and has been accepting the way things are, because thats exactly what happened! He was blamed for everything, which he denied and then angrily left and did his own thing. Thats what he has been doing the whole time. Never, not even once has he tried to clean his name. He never tried to proof other ppl wrong. He just left everything, all accusations uncommented.
From his point of view the whole world is against him and nothing he says will change anything, so thats why he simply gave up and just accepted his situation as it is and Fitoria is right. Not denying accusations is basically admitting "Yes, it was me. I did it". As i said before Fitoria only gave him the advice to do sth about that and clean his name and not let the world trample over him.
*HOW* can he "clear his name," though? Literally *EVERYONE* is doing everything in their power to discredit and destroy him.

If i had to pretend like i haven't read the manga, then i'd answer, i don't know how he can clear his name, BUT the point of her was that he never even tried. He never gave the idea any thought at all. Now he can consider everything and try his hardest.
I've said this elsewhere but Fitioria might seem bitchy here but Glass has said similar things. Naofumi might have to set his anger and resentment aside for the greater good,. Especially if he doesn't want to have to sacrifice the people.

Regarding the fight - in the light novel this fight was actually about Fitora teaching Filo how to fight in human form. She learned from Fitoras movement and attacks. It wasn't just about testing her will. It really was a "tough" sparring session. This also the reason why Fitora demanded Filo to stay in her human form.
