The second arc will begin after this episode. Also the Queen wanted Naofumi to save her family. She did all that on purpose hoping Naofumi would step in and change the death sentence.

My satisfaction and happiness is at it's maximum limit. This episode is good as a last episode for the series and hint for the next season, but thank god we still get to see the wave fight.
So I wasn't the only one that cheered with both hands up when they showed the executioner's block!? Right on! It's just a shame that they didn't dump that Trash and take that Bitch out;)
Naufomi didn't forgive them, he just chose not to kill them for the queen's sake. Also in the LN, he wanted to execute them and the queen talked him to change his decision, not the opposite.
This episode was satisfying as ALL GET OUT and exceeded just about every one of my expectations. - I absolutely loved how they built up to Naofumi relenting and not going through with the execution. The entire episode had him questioning whether seeing the garbage king and crap princess pay with their lives would bring him peace, echoing back to episode 15 and what he said to Raphtalia. - I don't agree with Chibi about Naofumi sparing those pieces of garbage as him forgiving them. I feel it was more him realizing that seeing them dead won't help him (think Scar's character arc from FMA Brotherhood). Also the show implies that he realized how much it pained the Queen to give them a death sentence, so sparing them could have been for her and Melty's sake as well. - The name change honestly felt WAY more organic in the anime (something that I was not expecting while watching) with Naofumi playing up his character and saying "if you don't like the names, we can still go through with the execution". - Also gotta give it up for the Queen. This may the best showcase of how she understands the bigger picture of the Waves and the politics of the world, but still cares about her family despite the mess they made. The anime (in my opinion) actually does the best job in alluding to something I've been wanting to be made one of the official reasons Naofumi relented: executing Trash and Slut would mean having their own wife and mother sign those death warrants. Doing that would have just felt like punishing her as much as them. The breakdown she has at the end with her telling Melty what she was prepared to do to save their lives and how grateful she is for how Naofumi seemed to understand was just perfect
And then there is WN/LN Naofumi literally screaming *KILL THEM* and the Queen suggesting not to torture them to death because it will affect the country's reputation
@@ynal1001 If I recall, she only said that news of Trash's execution would have consequences for the country. Pretty sure Myne was more or less a nobody on the world's stage (only Melty seemed to have gone with their mother on diplomatic trips and for obvious reasons)

*5th wave, cuz the 1st wave arrived before them plus the 2nd waved is what urged them to summon the cardinal heroes. so yeah what they wen through was 3rd and 4th wave
@@vladdraghici7237 No, they're not really underleveled. They're just incompetent. Naofumi is a bit underleveled, because he has no ability to level up alone and has been operating with no support and having to recruit a party the hard way. The others are doing about as well as can be expected, level-wise. Their weakness has other causes. Any under-leveling they are suffering is because they are facing the waves together instead of spreading across the world and fighting one hero per wave, which means they get no experience from the waves themselves. Basically, the king ruined everything by summoning all four heroes to the same place. It's only the Queen's efforts that stopped the other kingdoms from uniting to crush Melromarc like a bug. It is not a major world power.
Everyone on reddit was saying the manga was better and I read that chapter and tbh I think both have some positives and some have some negatives. Naofumi seems way more immature in the manga then in the anime at this point, he is in my opinion more mature in this part of the anime. The queen though was more savage for sure.
@@Shione_Starlight I agree but I feel like when you have the chance to get back at the person that oppressed you your inhibitions kind of loosen. Just my thoughts on the manga.
Yeah, the manga really made her out to be a queen that did solely what was best for the country and was very cunning. It made her believing in Naofumi from the start way more realistic. Also, the manga showing Naofumi being way more crazed and bloodthirsty at the start of the trial felt more in line with his character. Like chibi said, it feels like he's already finished his character arc which is way too fast imo.
Yeah, in the manga, the queen was slightly more manipulative (in a good way) which shows her ability to rule a country. The anime did cut a few things out, but both had their good parts.
@@allenliu4801 I can agree to a degree. However the way they have set him up in the anime at least he just doesn't seem like he would be in the same place mentally at this point.
"If I were to end you I'd be just like you" Naofumi never even said or thought this. He knew they deserved it he's just a good guy and saw the genuine desperation in Myne as she begged him to save her, and like the queen said he probably saw through her and knew she really didn't want to go through with this, and he probably considered how much Melty cared for her father. While he probably would've felt some type.of guilt it'd have nothing to do with him thinking he's at fault, everyone in that country (even the spear hero) understood they made their beds and deserved what was happening, the guilt would come from that Myne begged him, and that it'd effect Melty and the queen.
I was writing and got ahead of myself: I need several seasons of this anime. Been following this series outside the anime for a long time like my goodness.... Still need to see more characters pop up and more development for the other heroes. I can honestly see 3 more seasons of this anime to come.
@@luisalmanza119 e.g. the scene when she freezed Trash. In the manga as soon Naofumi recovered she went with him and the heroes to the throne room, and as soon Trash saw Naofumi and tried to kill him she silenced him and froze him completely, showing who ruled in the kingdom. @@sped325 As a light novel read I found this episode infuriating, as it shortened the trial from what it was and tried to make Naofumi a better person than he really is.
Nope, as an LN and Manga reader, I can tell you, without spoiling, that nothing from this point forward is going to make a damn bit of sense. The only options the writer has from this point forward, is to completely veer off the original story line, or duct tape a nonsensical path to the final ending. NOTHING from the original script can work now.
When malty is screaming from lying, I was in the living room. The important thing is naofumi clears his name. This whole episode is so good. There's no fight scene or anything, just an emotional & mental battle with the Queen's family and naofumi.
Don't listen to Manga readers bro, this scene was way more immature in the Source. Naofumi literally had no character development in the Source. It was just the Girls getting him out of shit in a matter of seconds.
that's because Myne is the true main villain of this 'arc' not the Pope or the King. She's the one who ruined Naofumi's life, she's the msot active antagonist, and she's the one who caused a lot of shit for shits and giggles the fact she's not REALLY a fighter means she must be defeated by other means, especially due to her 'diplomatic immunity'

@@harshaashu2484 his punishment is actually the least severe among the other 3 heroes with the bow being the 2nd. Spearboy gets the worst punishment out of all of them.
The anime adaptation was very different from the manga. Spoiler warning, but Naofumi instantly demanded for them both to be put to death where the queen persuaded him to show mercy so this was his compromise. However, I do admit I find this was much better in terms of writing for both the story and Naofumi as a character. Plus Bitch going crazy with fear and finally begging him for mercy was satisfying enough for me that I didn’t need to see the brat die. I do, however, disagree with you in terms of the king and his fate. True, he may be a good person deep down, but that does not change the fact of what he did. Regardless of his belief in doing what is needed for the country and his family, that fails to even come close to excuse what he did. He still kidnapped that poor lad, forced a weapon into his hand, demanded he fight his war for him, and then happily helped in torturing and traumatizing poor Naofumi. His vendetta against the Shield for his family is too petty to justify, in my book. Naofumi is not the person who committed the crime against Trash. Naofumi is just an ordinary boy who, I must repeat, was kidnapped and forced into this situation by Trash himself. And even if he genuinely believed what the church said about Naofumi, that on,y makes him worse, not better. Because let’s say the church was right and Naofumi was basically Satan himself, then why, pray tell, did Trash summon that demon into his world and put his people and even his own daughter at risk with him? Especially when you consider why exactly the Queen was not there. She left to discuss the order to which to summon these heroes, yet Trash decided to summon them all at once against her plan. And that’s disregarding the fact that he’s done nothing but make things worse when Naofumi proved far more powerful and the three heroes completely pathetic. If he REALLY cared about his country, then he would ave buried the hatchet with Naofumi, apologized for how he acted, and agree to work with him and help him in defeating the wave. He was no king. He was a brute. He only served his self and gladly threw the lives of his people under the bus for his petty vendetta. As far as I’m concerned, he’s just as bad as Bitch. Otherwise, this was a great episode and it was one heck of an awesome B-Day present for me. Yep, this satisfaction came out on my birthday. Imagine how satisfied I am feeling right now XD
Wait made this Episode disappointed for me, was how they treated the Queen. In the manga it showed how calculating/manipulative she was and to getting Naofumi to act towards making his compromise. Also, the Anime thinks this is the end for his Character, when in the manga he's still recovering from the bs he had to go through. and don't even get me started with the other heroes being all buddy buddy with Naofumi all of a sudden, i was like "Wait, what?"
Trash is not forgiven, and is in the end a bad person, but we can at least understand where he went wrong and that he wasn't always the bastard he is now...and maybe, in time, he can actually redeem himself and admit he was wrong. It's not up to anyone to forgive him: rather, its up to the king to show he is worthy of forgiveness
Yah wtf all of them doesn't deserve Naofumi .....Only the slave trader ,truly a man of civilize culture in maromarc ,I really wish melromarc gets burn to the ground with melty in it ,some ppl may like melty ,but remember when shes all acting braty AND DEMAND NAOFUMI TO APOLOGIZE TO TRASH?
Future Gohan basically Naofumi and the queen are changed. Naofumi is all like “DEATH KILL THEM THEY NEED TO DIE!!!” In the manga and the queen isn’t really against it but others talk them down and they change the punishment to the name changes and they lose their status. In the anime the queen suggests the death penalty and Naofumi stops it.
well the king didn't really try to lie or anything to be honest, he really just expressed openly his hatred for the shield hero, and thats a major portion of his guilt
@@lordofwhip yes, you are correct. So he didnt really need a slave mark inorder to be believeable. Also, did we ever learn how the shield hero of the past effected sir Trash's family?

Actually the reason he doesn't have one is a bit on the spoiler side. If it could be put on him it likely would have but since he's a star weapon wielder the crest wouldn't work.
The king got what he deserves. Since the heroes were all summoned to Melromarc, and they only handled the waves in that country, the other countries were decimated from lands and lives lost. Hundreds to thousands of people who should have been protected by the heroes that was to be assigned to that country.
Good episode, though different from the LN. I don't think Naofumi wanting to save them means he forgave them. It could just mean he didn't want them to die. Those can be seperate things. I think forgiveness is something the victim can reflect on and decide on for their own sake in order to move on. Forgiveness also something the offensive party is not entitled to. Looking forward to seeing Naofumi and his party level up finally and get stronger before the next wave.
This episode was so much satisfying. But this felt like the final episode of the series. If they're going for season 2, I don't know how they'll cover up to Cal Mira arc in just 4 episodes. Well let's see how they make it .( I won't be surprised if all 4 episodes will be having no op+ed)
@@DushisHere yeah after this bitch and trash punishment, things gets more interesting. If we assume that wave 3 will be covered here in one of these 4 episodes then it will be somewhat tricky to get the things well placed on the plate before the season ends. Well we all know that the popularity of this series has already been marked in Japan as well as in the west. Plus we've so much of material enough to make up to season 3. So the chances of getting a season 2 are very high imo. Well for that we've to wait up to ep 25 I guess. Because this will tell whether we'll get s2 or not.
Well idk about the manga,LN,WN coz I haven't read them yet.. But what I want is ... AN ENTIRE EPISODE DEDICATED TO NAOFUMI AND RAPHTHALIA... Everyone aside(even filo)
I can't say I was bad but it's way too cliche. Naofumi is a great character because of his relatable attitude towards being screwed over and not being as forgiving. Anime version made him too much as a shonen character who always wants to do the right thing and never has any ill intentions in his head.
Honestly, I was surprised they changed what happened in the Manga & LN. Because it those, Naofumi actually wanted to kill them. Though the queen gave him the compromise of torture instead of death and.....he opted with the names!
They changed it a bit in anime. In manga he wanted them death, but the queen told him to give them any other punishment except death then he came up with the idea.
Tears of joy were shed for Naofumi 😭😭 the fact that there was no opener made the gravity of this episode even greater. The trial part had me rolling in laughs. The execution scene had me at the edge of my seat. When princess 4 names called Naofumi and the slave crest did not react, I had shivers. She HONESTLY wanted his help and to be saved by him. Although her face was twisted, it was sincere. Tbh... I think the Queen wants some of the shield hero. Calling him by his first name and all. Hmmmmmmm.

@@allarian8726 I don't know about you but I prefer the main characters to be likable so I can actually root for them and enjoy the show. If everyone is just pure garbage I find it hard to stick with. That was the most satisfying conclusion to an overarching side plot that I've seen in a long while. Most good anime these days haven't left me satisfied almost at all just wanting more because they a lot of them don't have this kind of conflict in them and I couldn't see them getting it right even if they did. I really relate to Naofumi, except not on such a large scale conspiracy, and I couldn't feel anything except happiness and excitement to see this scene get adapted from either the manga (which does the whole name changes and trial in an entirely different way) or the light novel which I haven't read but heard great things about. Great video by the way I always look forward to your anime reviews.
When I read the manga it was so satisfying seeing Naofumi get justice, but when contrasted with the anime it didn’t feel so much as satisfying compared to the manga version. Then I watched chibi’s video on episode 21 review and saw how it makes sense how Naofumi went on as a hero, not based on his personal feelings. As seen from the manga it was the opposite, he let his personal feelings and continued hatred, anger, and rage a bit when... *Spoilers* Myne/Malty begs Naofumi on her knees and “kindly” asks Naofumi for forgiveness and mercy, then Naofumi just straight up looks at her with distain and disgust and yell out “KILL HER!” as he cannot stand her bs no more, which makes sense. Then the queen backs up saying we really shouldn’t because there would be repercussions in their international reputation following the scandal of the Church of the Three Heroes. Makes sense of what happened right? (Read chapters 31-32 to see the difference between the manga and anime, way more savage than the anime, but in contrast the anime have a more human feeling to Slut’s and Trash’s humiliation trial.) Either way killing them off would be easy, having to call them by their new names is way more satisfying just to see their faces in embarrassment and anguish as they live out their lives with them. Bit sadistic but hell I detest them wholeheartedly. Anyways both the anime and manga are quite different being opposites, but are all the same great and overall satisfying. Bit cliche in the end, but a welcome one indeed. I would still prefer the manga version, seeing how I’m not a LN reader, but the anime version is great too. That’s my take on it and it was fun analyzing different perspectives of the humiliation trial as it helps either you reading this comment and me understanding more of Naofumi’s moral compass in this isekai world. When the anime shines best is when Naofumi, as stated from Chibi, that is it right to just kill them off? Wouldn’t that mean I will just be like them? Okay to warp it all off, great satisfying episode, some might like it, some don’t but all the more we can all agree Slut getting basically tazed is great indeed.
also the sound team for this anime is fucking phenomenal. The music before the possible execution really set the mood. The sound design itself is to be remembered and p[aid attention to. well done.
Really love naufumi overcoming his rage and moving on. Also he spared them partly for melty Also, did anyone else really think this felt like a season finale?
channel four had all the characteristics of an ending. They defeated the season villains. We saw all the past allies. And he even struck a dramatic pose in the final second and said something cool
Anime < Manga/LN In the manga and light novel; Naofumi was the one that wanted for them to be executed as punishment, but the queen denied that because of political reasons.
The manga was not as satisfying for me, the queen flat out said that she wouldnt follow with execution in the manga so naofumi just changed their names, but here, she follows through the execution willing to sacrifice herself for them, only to be saved by naofumi
This version just is better narratively. You get character development for Naofumi which he lacks in the manga, you still get a satisfying punishment for the bad duo and Naofumi gets the recognition he deserves which he largely didn't get in the manga. The public scene with the queen, Bitch, Trash and Naofumi was so short, it felt rushed, we didn't get nearly as much of an impact as we did in this episode. And also, we get a better characterization of the queen who mostly acts like a bitch or very passive and nice. She doesn't show nearly as much care for Bitch and Trash. And it doesn't hit as much just how great of a politician she is in the manga either. This is definitely the superior ending of the Melomark arc.
they seemed to have changed it abit bc in both the light novel and manga naifomi actually wants them both executed for what they did but the queen is the one that shoots down the idea and convinces naifomi to give them a different form of punishment where as the anime swapped the queen and naifomi roles in the scenes in order to make naifomi seem like a true hero.
the light novel and manga hes more of a anti hero (similar to punisher and deadpool) and isn't as merciful and more bloodthirsty compared to the anime version of him.
I really love the point you made about the era they are in and how having everything ripped away is truly worse than death I see everyone just saying they should have just died which I mean they they kinda deserve that but still it’s nice to see another opinion on the topic and overall I loved the episode and the true rising of the shield hero
Nice. I feel satisfied with the conclusion on Myne's case. Might not be enough to alleviate the rage but I'm happy for the shield hero. I wish that one punch man s2 would get this kind of review and not just focusing on the animation 99% of the time.
Sir Albelic hey that wasn't Myne's conclusion, there's more about her later in the story. I get you with the one punch man season 2 reviews, I wish chibi would review the actual plot and not the production
To be honest I don't like how the anime make Naofumi changed his mind about the execution and feel any remorse. In the manga and light novel he was thrilled and has shown no sympathy towards the King and the Princess. Naofumi was the one that wanted the execution but the Queen thought it was harsh.
I think Naofumi does flinch some as he walks in on the Queen as she is punishing Trash... But just a little since he still hates Trash... And the king will still not repent...
this series is so goooood, i hope it still has much more to go. the characters are all awesome, the world hasn't even been fully explored and yeah the characters are awesome. I love naofumi's party of raphtalia and filo and how the hero still has an element of darkness to him. and the last episode was so satisfying to watch i legit laughed out loud.
Chibi PLEASE read the lightnovel/manga. With every episode they are changing A LOT. You have to see the (real) Naofumi Edit: here's one major thing they changed. Naofumi wanted them executed but the Queen told him she can't do that, and she suggest changing their names. In short lightnovel/manga Naofumi NEVER forgave them in fact he states how he feels unsatisfied that they didn't get executed. This anime Naofumi is really off character. the real Naofumi would punish/kill any scumbag and would never forgive them for what they had done, he doesn't have (If I kill them I will be like them) mentality , actually have the exact opposite. If someone were to do something awfully bad he would do that same or worse for that person.

This is one case in which you should tell your emotions to shut the fuck up and be as cold as an Iceberg.
Not sure if you noticed but the king never had the slave crest put on him. The anime will not explain why he does not get one until much much later (season 3 if they go that far).
Rising of the shield hero logic: -They don't kill the lord that was torturing slaves because "We wOuLd bE the SaMe AS YoU" logic -Ep 20 Naofumi murders the Pole Me: that's some messed up logic... I guess
It's quite clearly a distinction between self-defense and murder. At the time, the lord didn't seem as though he wasn't going to be a threat anymore and was acting as though he had given up. The pope was protected by a barrier that needed overwhelming power to break through, preventing less powerful means of disabling him, and was at the time actively trying to kill them while charging a powerful weapon and he clearly had not surrendered. I doubt that anyone would have batted an eye of blamed anyone if the lord had been killed in the initial combat, it was killing him after he surrendered that would have been frowned upon.
@@Aquilenne The queen was already there... she even traped the guy, killing him just seems unnecessary tbh. But I'm aware Naufumi isn't that good of a guy in the LN... that' why I like the anime version more ;)
You're really not going to like light novel Naofumi. He has yet to learn to forgive. He has barely learned to trust people. His justification for working with the queen was based solely on one of her shadows throwing a smoke bomb when he needed it. He threatened to be gone for good if she ever crosses him. He also kept asking for their execution, and I'm not talking about something as relatively painless as a guillotine ether. It was the queen who talked him out of it. There are a number of reasons why she can't have them killed, and not just her personal attachments. While Bitch maybe be waiting her time with conspiracies and self indulgences Trash is a rather competent leader when he doesn't let his hatred cloud his judgment. He has a certain amount of clout with in the kingdom that saved his neck. Even the queen doesn't have the power to complete suppress that backlash. She allowed Naofumi to chose their punishment, anything short of death. Cutting of limbs was on the table. Also it wasn't true that nobody liked Naofumi. Even before meeting the slave merchant and Raphtalia he had his supporters. However his anger and bitterness drove them away. He ordered everyone to leave him alone and those who worshiped him obeyed. I can only assume the king ether didn't invite any or didn't allow any demihumans into his castle in episode 1. If he had they would of all joined Naofumi. Do you remember those three guys who approached Naofumi in the tavern asking to join his party so they could mug him in the ally? They're dead. Their bodies were found a few days later ripped to shreds. Also some royal guards. They never did find out who was responsible. Still you can guess the type of people who would do that.
I'm not saying the adaptation was bad but I'm not sure I liked the changes made in this episode compared to the manga/light novel. Naofumi never had any qualms about the King's and Princess's execution. As a matter of fact he was the one who suggested the death sentence in the manga/light novel. True, Naofumi didn't put much effort into winning the case of the execution but the anime makes it seem like he's way too good of a person.
Personally, as a reader of the manga, I do prefer this ending. The reason being, the manga doesn't really progress Naofumi as a character at and after this point. He doesn't act like a hero, he acts like that ass hole that we would ordinarily be against because they would be against the protagonist. He NEEDS this character development. Even with this ending though, it is clear he's not entirely good considering what he did to the duo. So it's not as bad as you think.
This was an episode that I had high hopes for . And it was okay at best I feel as though the manga gave this episode so much more satisfaction. UPDATE: now that this out I recommend everyone go read the manga (vol.8 chapter 31/The Queen ) things were so different. The changed key moments in the beginning of the episode. And some scenes I was looking forward to .
KIng SOlomon while the anime is being adapted from the lightnovel, which the manga is also adapted from, the anime completely made up most of this episode and rushed and changed scenes. In the light novel things were similar to the manga but not quite the same. In all honesty the manga is a more faithful adaption to the lightnovel than the anime
This episode is my favorite episode of the series. I've watched episode 21 more times than any of the others. Seeing Bitch scream in pain from the slave crest from all her lying was very satisfying to watch, and I had a big smile on my face. The only think I hate is that Naofumi and the Queen spared the King/Trash and Malty/Myne/Bitch, or more so Myne. The reason is because I found out that Myne causes many bad things to happen, and that she's partly responsible for the waves happening (how, I will not say for spoiler reasons). I know that it was to show a example of forgiveness, and all, but sparing Myne/Bitch's life is going to be a mistake that is going to come back to haunt Naofumi, the Queen, and everyone they know.
After reading all the comments I tend to like the Anime version most because it simply makes the queen more human and realistic and I think that's a good thing.
@@FlashpointLPT Same. It shows that while she may be an effective ruler, she's not infallible. Considering how hated Mary Sues are, I can't see why anyone would view that as a bad thing.
Myne: You know I’m an honest and good girl Me: yeah honey sure, so can die an honest and good death Also I know they are both shit, but, props to the king for choosing to go out with his pride and dignity in tact while his daughter was kicking and screaming and begging the guy she tried to kill
I'm still disappointed that they made the anime queen so much less competent. This was a gamble that likely shouldn't of worked. I really hate how they had her drop to the floor like she did.
idk what the manga is like tho i'm gonna read at tonight specially after hearing about how much more savage naofumi is in it but i don't think she was less competent, she was just on edge the whole time and the dagger thing she wasn't planning on killing herself she said she wanted to bargain her likfe for those 2 which .... weird but makes sense
@@imanv8355 I've read both the manga and the light novel up to this point. I'm mostly sticking with the light novel, as it has more details and the manga is only slightly farther then the season.
I was disappointed because I expected the scene where mah boi was literally screaming *KILL THOSE FUCKERS* in the novel but the anime version got pussified
@OriginalTharios Have you read his internal monologues full of hatred where he revel in joy as thsy saw their faces warp in despair? I actually looked forward to that animated but it got chaged into this to appeal to a wider audience. Mah boi is so twisted that although he doesn't like it, he wanted to witness Bitch die so he fucking watches a video of the Bitch suffering from torture sex with her legs cut off while raped by the Faubley king(women get sent to him to get executed which for horrible crimes that, believe me, she will do a lot of horrible shit that everything she did at the start is mild in comparison). They also left out the part where Bitch tried to kill herself by biting her tongue because she can't accept being named Bitch.
I was kinda in between liking the show’s scene more or the manga’s. Sure naofumi having to be talked down made sense in the manga, but the naming felt kinda random. Here the naming felt more natural but naofumi feels less intense. I guess it’s mainly up for interpretation but I think the show just edges it out for me
@@storyseeker6028 it is more like trash king is too important to actually execute because other countries fear him as they don't have the balls to invade Melromarc with him alive so Naofumi had to compromise. Bitch is just a freebie that luckily got tossed in

@@rustkarl Well without her scheming, 1. Raphtalia would be dead in cell (he wouldn't have bought a slave). 2. He wouldn't trust Raphtalia (Yes Myne is the reason he doesn't trust people, but without her causing that, Raphtalia would have died. At least this problem gets fixed from the forced duel) 3. We wouldn't have got to see the spear hero kicked in the balls, from the race. 4. We wouldn't have got to see the spear hero kicked in the balls a second time. 5. She caused Naofumi to grow some thick skin in a country with a religion that hated him (he might have ended up robbed and in a ditch if not for Myne beating them to screwing him over) So I wouldn't say that was _all_ she was good for. She made a fairly decent petty villain.
@@josephburchanowski4636 You realise Raphtalia wouldn't of been in her original situation if Bitch and her corrupted kingdom didn't cause such catastrophies to begin with? And all the satisfying points you brought up would've become invalid since Naofumi wouldn't of experienced the bs which make them so satisfying. So justifying her scheming doesn't really make sense.
@@allarian8726 " Raphtalia wouldn't of been in her original situation if Bitch and her corrupted kingdom didn't cause such catastrophies to begin with?" You mean summoning the 4 cardinal heroes late and all at Melromarc. Pretty sure that has more to do with Trash than Bitch. I don't recall her having much influence in summoning the 4 heroes.
I think the biggest crime that Trash committed was summoning all four heroes to Melromarc. By doing that he betrayed the queen’s trust, he angered the other nations & by doing so, made her have to quell the other nations’ anger. Even if he was being manipulated by the church, he did everything to serve his selfish purposes. After the Queen asked Naofumi if he would stay in the country, his words prove how great a hero he is. “I’m leaving the country but I’ll work with you.” Naofumi knows (and the heroes now know) that the waves are worldwide. They need to save the world to return to their own worlds. Another thing was his dream at the beginning of the episode. He was with Raphtalia, Filo & Melty on some seaside cliffs & the tower in the background was flying the flag of Raphtalia’s hometown. Don’t know why he seems to be having prophetic dreams but maybe he needs to go there next.
What was truly amazing about this episode was the queens dilemma. She was in a very hard spot as a ruler. She saw and understood the injustice brought upon Naofumi and wanted to also set things right and also knew that once she uncovered and showed everything to the people of the kingdom that there was only one solution that was going to be fitting to give for a woman of her position. While it's clear that she certainly didn't want to do it (from her shaking to her almost giving her life instead for theirs as a last resort) she knew the people wouldn't except anything less from her and was going to stand strong until right before their beheading at least. But luckily since Naofumi is such a stand up guy she could breath easy. And I agree that dying would have been too easy of a way out for them anyway. They definitely needed to be knocked down a significant amount of pegs and have a reality check. All in all if the series ended right there (I know it doesn't though) it'd be perfect. Very satisfying never the less though. Edit: I wrote this like 20 seconds into the video and he basically says the same thing lol.

I absolutely loved how they built up to Naofumi relenting and not going through with the execution. The entire episode had him questioning whether seeing the garbage king and crap princess pay with their lives would bring him peace, echoing back to episode 15 and what he said to Raphtalia.
-
I don't agree with Chibi about Naofumi sparing those pieces of garbage as him forgiving them. I feel it was more him realizing that seeing them dead won't help him (think Scar's character arc from FMA Brotherhood). Also the show implies that he realized how much it pained the Queen to give them a death sentence, so sparing them could have been for her and Melty's sake as well.
-
The name change honestly felt WAY more organic in the anime (something that I was not expecting while watching) with Naofumi playing up his character and saying "if you don't like the names, we can still go through with the execution".
-
Also gotta give it up for the Queen.

@@shinjimirou928 Hencewhy they're underleved I guess
It didn't end
Naofumi and the Queen's role was flipped. I don't know how to react, but tbh I like the queen's actions in the manga more.

You thought it was Myne, but it was I!
Slave Crest!
While he probably would've felt some type.of guilt it'd have nothing to do with him thinking he's at fault, everyone in that country (even the spear hero) understood they made their beds and deserved what was happening, the guilt would come from that Myne begged him, and that it'd effect Melty and the queen.
after all, before all this Naofumi was an ordinary person, and there's still a spark of that within him

As far as I’m concerned, he’s just as bad as Bitch.

and don't even get me started with the other heroes being all buddy buddy with Naofumi all of a sudden, i was like "Wait, what?"

The problem is that this undermines the plot for the curse series.
This episode was so much satisfying.
But this felt like the final episode of the series. If they're going for season 2, I don't know how they'll cover up to Cal Mira arc in just 4 episodes. Well let's see how they make it .( I won't be surprised if all 4 episodes will be having no op+ed)
I'll believe the next arc will be introducing a new set of strong characters before ending the series on a cliff
@@DushisHere yeah after this bitch and trash punishment, things gets more interesting. If we assume that wave 3 will be covered here in one of these 4 episodes then it will be somewhat tricky to get the things well placed on the plate before the season ends.
And the director has said that the chances of season 2 depends on the support from the fans.
Imo the season will end on the plot twist before the wave, just like one of the manga chapters ended

@@machetevuoi8026 hmm... Well let's hope everything goes fine
How do we feel about the changes from the manga to the anime the more lighthearted naofumi or the more cold blooded naofumi
Light hearted
I was hoping for cold blooded but this wasn't to bad either
I prefer the cold blooded Naufumi.
The studio can go fuck themselves for this to be Frank.
Yep they sure do.
In the manga when she called for Naofumi he blurted out with “killer here, put her to death” was looking for that moment....
Xavian Walker the way this moment was portrayed shows the difference between manga Naofumi and anime Naofumi
This was a breath of fresh air! A great relief to a good story arc. Thanks for sharing your thoughts- you've really made my day.
Naofumi: saves Myne and king
Me: *AW C'MON D:
They changed it a bit in anime. In manga he wanted them death, but the queen told him to give them any other punishment except death then he came up with the idea.
It was so stupid like at least give a life sentence.
Hmmmmmmm.
Christopher Lane I would still ship them 🤷🏻♂️

They made Naofumi into a goodie tushu in this episode which was a bit sickening. He should've been so happy that you could see a bulge sticking out below the waist. Not having nightmares from a guilty conscience.
@@allarian8726 I don't know about you but I prefer the main characters to be likable so I can actually root for them and enjoy the show. If everyone is just pure garbage I find it hard to stick with. I'm pretty happy you posted this rather quickly. Thank you
That was the most satisfying conclusion to an overarching side plot that I've seen in a long while.
This episode did a good job of showing you how naofumi felt during the execution.
Agreed
When I read the manga it was so satisfying seeing Naofumi get justice, but when contrasted with the anime it didn’t feel so much as satisfying compared to the manga version. Then I watched chibi’s video on episode 21 review and saw how it makes sense how Naofumi went on as a hero, not based on his personal feelings. As seen from the manga it was the opposite, he let his personal feelings and continued hatred, anger, and rage a bit when...
*Spoilers*
Myne/Malty begs Naofumi on her knees and “kindly” asks Naofumi for forgiveness and mercy, then Naofumi just straight up looks at her with distain and disgust and yell out “KILL HER!” as he cannot stand her bs no more, which makes sense.
What a very Wholesome episode! **heart squeeze**

Really love naufumi overcoming his rage and moving on. Also he spared them partly for melty
Also, did anyone else really think this felt like a season finale?
Justin Buergi I thought it was the last episode as well
channel four had all the characteristics of an ending. They defeated the season villains. We saw all the past allies. And he even struck a dramatic pose in the final second and said something cool
they made this in the manga better. He immediatly ask for their heads but the queen convinces them otherwise.
Diego Kaqui I’ve heard that and honestly I prefer this version. It shows his growth in overcoming his anger was really amazing

Anime < Manga/LN
In the manga and light novel; Naofumi was the one that wanted for them to be executed as punishment, but the queen denied that because of political reasons.
If that is the case then I like the anime version better
i liked that ep but i enjoyed the manga one better tbh
Same here.
Yeah, manga was better but it was still a good episode
The manga was not as satisfying for me, the queen flat out said that she wouldnt follow with execution in the manga so naofumi just changed their names, but here, she follows through the execution willing to sacrifice herself for them, only to be saved by naofumi
This is one better, it makes sense, she loves the king, he is once a righteous hero that save the kingdom before.
@@sped325 I meant the whole dirt on the shield hero's name thing. We'll just wait for that on the next season then, 3 eps to go for this season.
Sir Albelic no no that will happen MUCH later, probably in a third season, though next season is going to cover my favorite arc. Look forward to it
"He has gonne even further beyond", Naofume has awakened the ultra instinct!
Now this puts a smile in my face
this series is so goooood, i hope it still has much more to go. the characters are all awesome, the world hasn't even been fully explored and yeah the characters are awesome. I love naofumi's party of raphtalia and filo and how the hero still has an element of darkness to him. and the last episode was so satisfying to watch i legit laughed out loud.
Chibi PLEASE read the lightnovel/manga. With every episode they are changing A LOT. You have to see the (real) Naofumi
Edit: here's one major thing they changed.
So.. Punisher with a shield.
That was satisfying seeing Myne get shocked
I hope for a season 2
It's impossible now, they broke every character they could this season. Theyd have to redo from episode 15 to do it.

Rising of the shield hero logic:
-They don't kill the lord that was torturing slaves because "We wOuLd bE the SaMe AS YoU" logic
-Ep 20 Naofumi murders the Pole
Me: that's some messed up logic...
But I'm aware Naufumi isn't that good of a guy in the LN... that' why I like the anime version more ;)
Simple. One involves Raphtalia, the other involves Naofumi. Naofumi wouldn't want Raphtalia to dirty her hands.
Finally, this episode! Man was it good! Naofumi finally got the justice he deserved!
My favorite part was when the ex-princess got the magical lie detector.
Me too
I'm not saying the adaptation was bad but I'm not sure I liked the changes made in this episode compared to the manga/light novel.
"This episode perfectly 'executes' that cliche."
Shield Hero: if I do this I will be like them . . .
IRL: I would rather see them rote in jail. . .
Shield Hero: Yea that could work. . .
.....wait a minute that's illegal!!
They humanised the Queen in the anime... The Queen and Naofumi was more cruel in the manga. Same result nonetheless.
After reading all the comments I tend to like the Anime version most because it simply makes the queen more human and realistic and I think that's a good thing.

idk what the manga is like tho i'm gonna read at tonight specially after hearing about how much more savage naofumi is in it but i don't think she was less competent, she was just on edge the whole time and the dagger thing she wasn't planning on killing herself she said she wanted to bargain her likfe for those 2 which .... weird but makes sense

Don't forget how the queen said how ant tearing their limbs apart....i feel bad to wat they did to such a good character

@@rustkarl Well without her scheming,
1. Raphtalia would be dead in cell (he wouldn't have bought a slave).
2. He wouldn't trust Raphtalia (Yes Myne is the reason he doesn't trust people, but without her causing that, Raphtalia would have died. At least this problem gets fixed from the forced duel)
3. We wouldn't have got to see the spear hero kicked in the balls, from the race.

5. She caused Naofumi to grow some thick skin in a country with a religion that hated him (he might have ended up robbed and in a ditch if not for Myne beating them to screwing him over)

You realise Raphtalia wouldn't of been in her original situation if Bitch and her corrupted kingdom didn't cause such catastrophies to begin with? And all the satisfying points you brought up would've become invalid since Naofumi wouldn't of experienced the bs which make them so satisfying. So justifying her scheming doesn't really make sense.
Bitch probably lied on purpose despite knowing the effects because she just enjoys the shock that much xD
@@allarian8726 " Raphtalia wouldn't of been in her original situation if Bitch and her corrupted kingdom didn't cause such catastrophies to begin with?"
You mean summoning the 4 cardinal heroes late and all at Melromarc.
