Naofumi didn't get the jackpot. He won the lowest price, a filolial. It's because of his passive abilities as a hero, that filo developed that rapidly.

Yeah. It's pretty clear with what been shown so far that neither the show or the MC are like that, being focused on meaningful romance over mindless conquests. We saw it with his turning down of the Thot who must not be Named in episode 1. It's going to be just Raphtalia as anything else is going to undermine everything they have gone through so far. I could see 1 other woman showing up as a potential romantic threat for a short time at some point in the distant future but her role would be too character based than harem based if you get what I mean.

Actually, I was wondering after this chapter: Why all the hatred? What did the *previous Shield Hero* do in the kingdom's history to garner such hatred?
It all comes down to racism towards demi-humans. The same hatred of demi-humans that the previous Shield Hero probably tried to mend, only to survive and grow over the next generation of heroes. Love how this manga takes a page out of the real world.
In the religion of the country the shield hero is the devil. Where as with the demi-humans, they view the shield hero is seen as a savior.

Filo wasn't a jackpot. It was the guaranteed, lowest ranled creature he could get in the gacha game.
According to light novel and manga the Lowest was supposed to be a rabbit worth 50 silver while filorials go for 200 silver. So from a business perspective paying 100 silver to play a game that guarantees 100 more silver than you paid doesn't make sense ... Anime forgot to mention that. Filorial was still a hard egg to get

A sign that Malty/Myne is such a well done villain character is the amount of hate viewers feel toward her. So much of real life mean girl personality makes her understandably both real, and unrelatable. Both essential qualities in a villain character.

I thought it was Raf that requested the crest be put back on herself. It was Naofumi that said something like "you didn't have to get another one". I'm really liking this series, and I think it's so awesome Nao got a chocobo. This episode seemed very lighthearted in comparison with the first four episodes.
Naofumi has still his trauma, he can't trust 100% anybody without them being under slave mark which compells them to not betraying him. Besides that he has special shield which gives bonus EXP to slaves under him. Getting another shield with similliar effects would be too much of a hussle.
This series won't be a harem, Chibi. Naofumi is usually oblivious towards people showing romantic interest and sees Raphtalia and Firo as daughters.
And the author based the heroes based off of generic characters (hence why Motoyasu is so annoying and idiotic). I don't like Motoyasu either, yet he shows to have this sense of justice.
I'm glad you understand why Raph wanted to put the slave seal on, since others were disappointed about it.

I mean, it still could be a harem, even if Naofumi isn't aware. It mainly depends on a bunch of random girls joining a group with them all falling in love with the main guy, whether he is aware of it or not. Look at someone like Kirito, he had a harem and was totally unaware of the other girls liking him (besides Asuna). I agree with Chibi that I hope it doesn't become that, but from what people have said, including you, it won't go that path. Which I'm happy about. Love this show

@@andyroo6512 You can read the light novel, it's already finished at 17 volumes and the author has recently released a few extra volumes for a total of 21 volumes with 20 of them having been translated.
The author has also written a new series called "Wolf & Parchment" that's set in the same world but with different characters (don't look it up though, since it's a spoiler).

As a matter of fact, they did rush things with this episode. After the race, Naofumi was supposed to head back to town to have the slave trader take a look at Filo to try to make sense of how she grew so explosively. The slave trader was amazed at Filo and wanted to keep her for a while for examination, just for a day or two. Filo didn't want to be away from Naofumi and THAT is when the humanoid form is revealed. Shaving off all that doesn't really impact the story so much, but later on Naofumi has a slave crest placed on Filo too so she can benefit from the same exp bonuses as Raphtalia does, so he might end up going to the slave trader anyway.
They also cut out the banter between Raph and Filo since Filo is jealous of Raph and vice versa.

There was only ONE real scene before Firo transformed that showed how possessive both of them were over Naofumi and that was in the barn when Firo was still in normal filorial form and kept nudging Naofumi because she didn't want to sleep alone so he stayed behind to study in the barn by Firo and Raphtalia got envious and clung to his arm and they both had a stare down. That is it!!! There was nothing else Pre-humanoid transformation in both the LN and manga

Yeah, I'm surprised he didn't mentioned them. The queens' ninja knights are the only reason why she got ticked and made a challenge. Otherwise it still would've ended with her cheating, Naofumi losing, and everything being taken. Instead, she lost, the queens' guard said, "We know what you did" and she's in fear that they're going to tell her mother.
Update: Yeah, they told. Mother queen laid down the law and the pecking order. :P

The spear hero/Motoyasu is actually a harem protagonist tossed into an isekai, confirmed by the author too. The way he acts makes way more sense in that context. He's the center of his own universe, loves the ladies too much, and he's always doing what he thinks is right though it may conflict with the reality of the situation.

In the manga, Raphtalia reinstates the Slave seal herself after the duel, in front of everyone watching. I feel that was a better way of showing their bond, as she herself chose to use the Slave seal instead of Naofumi. Goes to show how much she trusts him.

i think you missunderstood the slave crest thing, or mayby i did. As i see it, it was raph that made that happen, so it was also raph that had the two of them walk to the slave auction, which led to them obtaining the egg.

In the source material, Raphtalia suggested they put the crest back on when he was in the middle of his freak out being consumed by the curse series. "If you still can't believe me, then put the crest back on" basically.
It was only after the crest was put back on that Naofumi was like, "Is this okay? I feel like we don't need to do this" but it literally was just too late. Raph is even like, "Now you mention it?"

Raph is like "C'mon, let's go to put the crest back on" and Naofumi responds that she don't need to be a slave anymore. Then Raph argues that Naofumi is not able to trust anyone who isn't his slave. It's in the first episode of the second volume.

First off: The queen shown at the start of the episode is in Faubery which is is the nation that typically gets the 4 sacred heroes and thus gets their knowledge of the hero's world which is why they have rifles....and an airship. Thank god they didn't show the king from there cause his description is horrid, and is how royalty and noble girls are threatened to behave so they don't get married off to him....
The episode cut out a lot of stuff such as Naofumi getting the Chimera Shield which he uses for a good while. They also cut out the parts of the villagers storing the chimera meat in the stables (Which you did see as the giant hunk of meat in one scene), Naofumi helping with repairs by using Filo to move the cart with lumber, explaining that Filolials have the distinct mindset of "MUST PULL CARTS!"
As many have stated, this will not become the traditional harem (if we even get that far this season) cause Naofumi is too damaged from events shown from episode 1. Also kinda odd of the change to say that the fitollals were the lowest prize from the game when it was supposed to be some other monster worth less than that as the filolial eggs are worth 200 silver min.

My biggest concern from the episode came from Myne and the Kings reaction to Raphtalia standing up to them. Made me worry that because she is a demi-human and connected to Naofumi that doing something like back talking to them in the throne room even just once could inspire thoughts to try to dispose of her. Hurting Naofumi in doing so could be the main point of it or just a bonus.
Bit of info that might make you change your opinions of Sword and Bow Heroes again: The primary reason they stood up for Naofumi in this episode is cuz they were salty about getting less gold than Spear Hero.
About the harem thing: Sorta? Not exactly. I don't think Filo is romantically interested in Naofumi.
For Raphtalia getting the slave mark back: What you said it mostly true, but it also has to do with Naorfumi's trust issues, so Raphtalia is just saying "I want you to completely believe in me, so I'll do this so you know I won't betray you."
Also about Naofumi and the gacha: if you've played FGO or a similar game, it's not so much that he drew a 5 star servant, and more like he got a 2 star servant and just grailed her.

Manga and light novel showed that Naofumi suspected Raphtalia has feelings towards him but he literally cannot get over the fact that she is a 10 year old in a 18 year olds body. Thus he prefers to see her as a daughter especially given that he was essentially her guardian when he bought her
And like the person ahead of me said.... After his trauma with that myne bitch. He literally despised opposite gender. Anime didn't show it but he actually only bought raphtalia cause (one the other slaves were too expensive or practically almost dead) he enjoyed imagining making myne his slave and throwing her into danger (his nice guy personality helped refrain him from being an asshole to raphtalia cause he told himself she isn't the same person). Raphtalia is the only reason he can even remotely trust another woman in the same space as him. She literally becomes his moral support and foundation

Finally. I thought I was the only one that realized that Motoyasu (and the other heroes once we get a bit more into their stories) are basically brands of different types of isekai protagonists except their actions have consequences.

I can still see the duality in naofumi, just like in other characters like kaze no stigama, where their baseline personality is one of compassion and caring the world has created another side that is calculating and emotionless. Both these sides constantly fight each other making people wonder what type of person he really is. I will bet everyone knows that one person that is always straight with them to the point of being vicious. However that same person has shown genuine compassion for them when they are at a low point. This is how a parent has to act, and since naofumi looks at raph more as a daughter then anything else he treats her the same way. Will be similar for the new girl especially given her your age and stature.
On a different note, everyone is worried about stereotypes in an iseki. Forgetting there is the most common stereotype right there in front of them. This being the tall, blond, arrogant antagonist. This is only common due to the culture of japan, but it still fits.
Raphtalia is one big walking cooldown for Naofumi.

Sigh, I finally understand the reason why manga readers does look down on anime onlys, cause I got pissed when they change how Firo was able to transform.
Looks like it's the same process, just either slightly rearranging the order (take Filo in to figure out why she's a little girl instead of to figure out why she's a fat chocobo) or they're going to shortly explain it since unlike a book where one could if they wanted take as long as they want, they're confined to 24 ~24 minute blocks to tell what they can. My guess is at they're going to try and get all the to volume 7 of the LNs adapted since that's probably the best ending point for a 24 episode season.
I'm mostly annoyed that Firo of some reason is called "Filo" in the anime.
