Not really, Naofumi couldn't use them anyway since he is limited to the Legendary Shield, plus if Naofumi spun it right he could turn into a traveling advertisement for the Weapon Shop not only telling people about it but showcasing the inventory.

Naofumi also has less reason to not at least try out what they're saying. The difference is, the other Heros egos are tied up in being "right." Naofumi's isn't. He only cares about what works.

@@SnowyWolborg This is it, so much. Naofumi, for all his injured pride and fragile arrogance, is the most humble one of the group. He's willing to listen to others, try out what they say, etc. He's willing to get down and dirty and do the hard things like cleaning up after the others. He's traveled the kingdom, talked to people. He's worked his shield into a weapon, and worked with his allies specifically to allow them to be his swords, instead of insisting on grabbing the glory for himself.
Naofumi gave them a Chance their lost causes now.
As I said before. Simple communication is impossible with these guys. But the funny thing is, all three of them are correct. The only problem is that each one thinks they're right while the rest are wrong and that's why they can't work together.

I just double checked the light novel and it does look like the shield depicted in there. It has a picture of him using the new skill, naturally with the special shield equipped. I never got a reason why the shield was in the back.
Anime doesn't cover it, but Naofumi has the queen pay smithbro for every shield he copied as if he had purchased it, but with naofumi's usual discount. So smithbro comes out wayyyyy ahead.

I like the manga and novel better, since he discuss this with Blacksmith bro, and they get an agreement since Naofumi is a really good customer. I also dont know why they didnt show the meteor shield there, since that was the scene were it should happen.
@@TheUnknow the meteor shield was the first one he grabbed in the anime. I recall in LN the blacksmith figures out/is told this is how the other heroes plundered him. Anyways Naofumi has spent a fortune on merchandise and he continues to be a very faithfull costumer to blacksmith which is why he was forgiven so easily

@Richard Haegeler Give up dude. Anime queen is not the same as LN queen. Anime queen is just a goof and emotional. Completely stripped of all the badassery she had in the LN for what reason I wonder? Oh it's just that they want Naofumi to be the only one that's competent in the anime probably.
The big reason why the other three heroes are so blind and narrow-minded is because of raw pride, ego, and their hero complexes. They have been working off the assumption that they know everything about this "game" and the idea that this world might deviate so drastically from their own game knowledge is not something they can even consider.
Also, a big thing that was in the LN but not in this episode, was the fact that the other three heroes are so convinced that this is a game that they think they are effectively immortal. In the LN they flat out tell Naofumi and the queen that if they are ever defeated in battle they'll just wake up back at the hospital (which is what has always happened thus far) and that the fight with Glass was a pre-determined "unwinnable fight" for story progression. Needless to say, both Naofumi and the queen are gobsmacked by this.
I couldn't help but laugh when I read that in the light novel.

According to the story myne won’t change, but look at it this way, the shield hero didn’t spare myne he actually spared the queen and her daughter from witnessing the death of their beloved family members aka the king and myne.
I mean you don’t usually punish a helping hand by biting it, in my eyes from the story naofumi cant get justice because it will be unjust to do it to those who aided you, it has a silver lining tho which is that the naifumi gained trust redemption(sort of) and allies.

As a LN reader and having reached this Island arc and the next one, it's a yes (at least if you compare him to the other three heroes XD). He boosted one of his shields so hard, he almost didn't need to use the Wrath Shield again, and the other three could only cry, calling him a cheater XD

@@RodrigoLeaf15 seriously? Cool. Well whatever keeps him from wrecking his body. The wrath shield attacks are cool and all but the recoil from them is just too high of a price to pay.
Actually he is as strong as he should be and as it states in the LN the other 3 heros are just so much weaker than they should be. The weapon the Pope used was o my 10 percent of the total power of the weapons and each of them are above lvl 50. And they don't really get any more powerful. They end up being in the way more than anything. Niofumi doesn't get OP until what will probs be the end of the 2nd season or the 3rd season (episodes 45 to 55 ish).
Naofumi played the merchant in all his video games (stated in LN) which is why he doesn’t know a lot about fighting and leveling mechanics because he so used to just trading and bartering around

Actually he isn't "OP". He is as strong as a hero should be but as it says in the LN the other 3 heros are just so much weaker than they should be.
To clarify its not per say weak via their level as much that their personal skills, instincts, and etc are below average. This we have seen throughout with as early when the second "first" wave happened and the first fight between Naofumi and Idiot. Idiot at that time was nearly double Naofumi's level with better equipment. Naofumi not only was able to face him nearly equally, but possibly win if not for Slut interfering. Raphtalia for example during the fight with the Pope was going nearly on par sword fighting wise as discount Kirito who again is way higher level, better gear, and has a Cardinal weapon. Raphtalia is currently mostly self taught via sword fighting and is way better than Discount Kirito outside of his higher stats and Cardinal weapons utilities. I am only pointing what has currently been shown and not going ahead with more information that hasn't appeared for Anime only viewers. Obviously the Anime shorten or cuts some information that has passed already though. The brief line Naofumi said back to the heroes about if they used their skills and abilities properly then the Soul Eater "Boss" wouldn't have been as big an issue or that Naofumi would have been forced to used the cursed shield series till Glass showed up.
The ability introduced is kind of BSC though. "Whatever you believe to be true becomes reality? What kind of copout zenkai boost was that? I hope for my sanity that their are restrictions or some balance for that ability
@@billyBob-dz7jy yeah, there are, if I remember correctly. It's more like when in mmorpg you have numerous ways and items to upgrade your skills and gears. But you won't get any of that if you don't browse quests, menus, interfaces and item descriptions. For example you have a sword in a mmorpg and you watch only at it's level of sharpness. However, you can also up it's grade, insert special jewels in it, put magic effects on it, fill it with some special energy and even upgrade it with some ancient relic.
It's kinda like that, so yeah, this ability has its limits and it is very close to how many mmorpgs work. Things I described can be seen for example in Black Desert Online
@@billyBob-dz7jy there are certain limitations. A obvious one that might have been missed this episode that was shown is a requirement is having knowledge of it and understanding it. Naofumi after the talk and believing them was able to access just the weapon transfer/upgrades because even in his Earth that was a thing and he had knowledge of it. The excuse and reason he didn't acquire it sooner can be given because he was thinking more realistic and dealing with a Country who hated him while the other three got time to spend thinking about it as a game which benefited them. The other abilities mentioned that the heroes fought/argued about again was due to misunderstanding and the types of games they played back on Earth. Not having any knowledge of said system and not being open to said concept pretty much means a lockout of ever acquiring it. It's not mentioned in anime, but any additional system will act like the game you know it's from counter part. So restrictions like your level to use more or increase said ability is in place. Other restrictions like unknowns things you must personally do or accomplish is also a thing. Even then the benefits when it comes to actual combat isn't as significant as you might think if a idiot like those three use them. That's why even before said knowledge or higher levels, physical and mental skill in combat can overcome level and ability gaps to a degree. Think of it as Naofumi has been playing on Hard mode without a guide and soaking everything in vs the three heroes who went on easy mode with a guide that allows no real cultivation of what they have accomplished.

He has to know about the fact Naofumi can't wield other weapons (with some exceptions such as small knives being used out of battle, etc..) besides his own shield since he was a regular at the blacksmith's shop and never got a sword for himself, instead for Raphtalia whenever they dropped by. The Four Cardinal Heroes are legends so it was highly likely recorded that the heroes can't use other weapons besides their own anyway.
You could say it was stealing but it's still all good since as you said, naofumi proposed to pay back.

I kinda annoyied how in anime they change scenes from ranobe by a bit like a scene with merchant, that in ranobe allowen Naofumi to copy everything and even showed that not finished meteor shield that wasn't on display because Naofumi explained him what happend when other heroes visited him.
About Motoyasu being "dumb" you've got to remember that in the very beggining in first episode the book that transported Naofumi was begining with something like "Spear hero that trusts in his allyes, Bow hero that seek justice and Sword something something." It's like very core part of their characters so we can't really expect them acting outside of that.
He can only copy shields, he'll still have to buy weapons for his slaves.

on the mather of myne just walking around freely in the castle, she was called out for it in the manga but since she is a member of the spear hero's party she still has privileges, not royalty privileges tho
Its half and half I think. She still technically is part of the queen's family and the castle is her home, just like the king is still living in the castle and she is part of the spear hero's party so she is allowed to walk around the castle. However, she isn't allowed in certain places, obviously, and she has no actual claim to the throne so she is a commoner of sort. The queen merely publicly stripped her and the king of any royal power/decree's but they aren't banished/exiled. Only way she can get the throne now is through a coup/rebellion...
In the manga the blacksmith realizes why the other heroes never bought weapons from him.

@@kevinkaol3681 The anime really fucked up the whole trial scene. Motoyasu was always on Bitch's side (adventure name Whore) and never celebrated after. He left with her after the trial even. Last episode was half anime original.

In the LN/Manga, Naofumi actually made a deal with the blacksmith and informed him of how the other three heroes had robbed him at the beginning. That's where they probably got their Meteor sword, lance, bow that they always like to use.
Also, the anime mentioned a weapon that can teleport but they didn't mention how to get it... You need sand from the dragon hourglass, the same hour glass that teleports them to the location of the wave each month.
You know, earlier when Itsuki stuck up for Naofumi seems fake with the fact he has a party member that has a prejudice against Demi humans.
Itsuki and all the heros are equally annoying. You will see more of that in the light novels. I am sure the anime will display things a bit differently. Although this past episode was enough to see what their view points are like.

Time to MinMax! He is already stronger than the other Heroes just by mere effort, imagine now that he unlocks skills that speed all those grinding he did manually.
Not just because "effort". It was how he uses his shield and also how lucky he got unlocking the Rage Shield (a mere coincidence). All of the heroes have been getting strong in their own right as much as Naofumi, however, Naofumis abilities are a lot more flexible.

The three of them went for quality, but in this world, quantity is still important. In fact, it's a quality in itself and the key to Naofumi's stat boosts.

Heck,.the Tank does more dps than the DPS, Just to put in perspective how absurd they are. They don't know how to use their weapons in a effective way and don't seem to have unlocked decent skills. They always spam the same "strongest attacks" but always makes less damage than Naofumi or even Filo

Let me clarify. All of the heroes have been grinding as hard as Naofumi has. You can't blame them for getting stronger in the only way they know how.
Also, while it is true that Naofumi utilizes his weapon the best out of all the heroes for his level, it makes sense since the shield, while lacking attacking strength, is the most versatile weapon of the pack (being a support item) which allows his moves to be more creative (making platforms, trapping enemies, warding off attacks using multiple abilities), while weapons like spears are only specialized in offense.
Last thing was, his cursed ability was completely luck. He didn't try to obtain, it appeared out of a mere coincidence with his rage. Him not acknowledging that (for awhile) shows some arrogance.
All in all I think Naofumi is the smartest hero (which allows him to fight on the others level in his base, despite being a lower level), I was only pointing out that all of his power isn't just from working harder, but rather a bit of luck (rage shield and endless abilities) while using his brain to utilize his exyremely versatile shield.
1:07 - With the way you mentioned the world view, it kinda feels like a parallel to the real world as well. Guess it turned out to be a subtle message about how being positive and open-minded can indeed do wonders for us.

Chibi I don't think you paid attention to the episode. Myne was referred by her adventure name, meaning she was there because she was in the Spear Hero's party which all were invited. Also, she wanted to poison the Bow Hero's party instead. Most likely hoping to pin it at the Shield Hero's party as they were having issues already. Wouldn't be surprise she got the knight drunk in the first place.
Well, his main point stands that she shouldn't be there regardless. Them letting her continue to be an adventurer is extremely problematic as they are now the enablers and therefore also accountable for her actions.
So, Nafoumi can use a weapons copying ability, Raphtalia fought a dumb knight who’s in Itsuki the bow hero’s party, and Bitch tried to give Naofumi and his party pie with her “secret ingredient”. Yeah, that’s just something. “The Rising of the Shield Hero” is an awesome anime. Great review, Chibi. Other than that, cool:).

@@flowwy_ well, don't forget that he was randomly blessed with the Rage Shield that has saved his ass multiple times. That shit was purely circumstancial. Also, while he lacks offense (normally), his ability as shield and support allows him to be the most flexible, while the others abilities for the most part is purely strength.

Since he unlocked a huge amount of "trash" shields mani of them giving things like +1 def +. 5 vitaliti etc piling up such a huge amount he was able to accumulated a lot of stats becoming stronger that his lvl indicates.

It would be like a bear buying a fur coat. Hadn't him unlocked this ability, he would've never even though of looking at other shields. That being said, yes, he pirated the shields, no doubt, but he were never going to buy them anyway.

@Chibi Reviews the one think you have to remember about Myne is that she is not just the former princess but also a member of the Spear Hero's party and the other Hero's party members where there as well. As the Spear Hero's party was there it makes sense that Myne would be too. I do agree that she should have been under guard.

From what I can think of, there are seven ways they could upgrade their weapons/shield. 1: Enchantments, 2: Gem slots (World of Warcraft style) 3: Temporary buffs (Witcher oils/Dark Souls buffs) 4: Materials (some monsters might be weak to silver for instance) 5: Rarity (a novice blacksmith and master blacksmith would make very different quality swords with the same materials obviously) 6: Affinity (Dark Souls has boosts for weapons depending on your stats, an A rank strength weapon might do 170 damage with +100 bonus damage, and a B rank might give 200 damage with a +50) and 7: Reinforcement (which is just a basic improvement, level 7 weapon - 50 damage, upgrade to level 8 - 60 damage)

You raise a good point there, with how broken the Heroes actually are, there must be someone who abuse it. And without spoiling much, there is a lot of counter measure against the Heroes. This pretty much will be explored in Season 2 and further explain in season 3 and 4 if we got one
he never lost a customer since Naofumi wouldn't have ever used other shield other than his shield. If was able to copy the armor gear then I can see him losing a customer.
Before he left,
Naofumi said he was gonna pay for everything.
I knew Trash and B*tch's trial would have almost no long-term consequences for them, so I didn't understand why fans were satisfied with the outcome claiming it was a "fate worse than death". It clearly wasn't. And this episode further proved that it did nothing in the short term either. They're still living relatively easily lives in their castle free to do anything they want.
Disgraced or not, they're still of royal blood and they have connections with plenty of people who are willing to do their bidding (like those soliders and adventurers at the party who still hate the Naofumi and tried to kill Rahptalia in this episode). As former royalties, B*tch's worst days are still far better than the average people's best ones smh.

I read the manga myne is only there because she is still part of motoyasus party, because he refuses to let her go despite what she has done. Think about it the king would also be at the party aswell
Myne is part of the spear hero's party since he refuses to let her go. That is why she is in in the castle. She is also the spear hero's slave he lets myne roam around.The king isn't there so you can assume he has been removed from the castle, so the punishment does have consequences.In the manga she roams the castle but interrupt the meeting insulting noafumi with no commupence, in this she at least got what she deserved .

The manga just makes her interupt the heroes meeting ; insult naofumi and suffer no karma. Then again this is just my opinion feel free to disagree with me.

Itsuki rub me the wrong way this episode. He was the most irritating out of the three heroes. Those three really need to get out of their ways because it's being hopeless. It's paralleling the gaming society to a bit of how you play the game. I'm looking forward to L'Arc and his partner next episode.

The systems are unlocked by the power of belief, but that alone isn't enough. Naofumi was unable to use any of the systems they told him about right away, but because there were some systems they all agreed on they suddenly unlocked. Then he started putting some faith in them, even for the systems the other two claimed were lies and unlocked them as well. He then reported it to the queen and informed her to relay it to the others, but they had already left by that point.
Naofumi also tried to import a system from one of the games he had played, but that didn't work. Apparently they have always existed, but won't show up unless you believe in them. Each of the other three had some weapon upgrade system in the game they played, and they unlocked it without realizing it and assumed it was the same for everyone. Also the weapon copy was not in any of the games, the heroes just found it accidentally when they tried to replace their weapons. You might remember them calling the legendary weapons weak in the first episode. They asked if they could use other weapons until those got stronger. Nobody told them no, likely because they weren't fully aware of the rules themselves, and they went out to buy new weapons. When they held a weapon of the same class in their hand instead of zapping them and flying out of their hand it duplicated them. This didn't work for Naofumi as why would he want another shield instead of something that could do damage.
As far as I can tell all the weapons have the same skills and systems, it's just that most of them are locked when you first get them. For example you may remember the episode when the three of them all used meteor attacks. Well one of the shields the shop keeper gave Naofumi was made from a meteor and it unlocked the meteor shield skill. Naturally this functions differently then the others. I have also noted Moyotasu has a skill with "air strike" in the name. Also the three of them have teleport skills, but they are named differently.
Also the anime cut this out, but the other three believe themselves to be immortal, following something similar to Log Horizon. They thought that if they died they would just be dragged back to the hospital and revived. This is odd given some of their recent actions. They do believe the deaths of "NPC" are permanent. Moyotasu for some reason thought killing Naofumi would sent him back to his world.

Don't know about LN but in WN there was a reprise from blacksmith that after heroes was summon they enter his shop and touched every weapon there and leave without saying a word or buying anything [aka every single game where you can endure the npc house and browse thru it without any repercussion, at least they did break any vases].

The blacksmith didn't lose a potential customer. Naofumi would _never_ have been able to use any of those shields if he bought them normally. There may have been the emotional reaction to events as they happened, but if you look at it properly, the blacksmith lost literally nothing - neither the product, nor the chance at a sale.
Regarding Myne walking around the castle unimpeded, they did go a little ways towards explaining that: She was wearing a maid's uniform. That's a sort of common trope to sneak into the kitchens by adventurers everywhere, so Myne getting away with it did not bother me at all. I just want to know whether that was real poison, or more like food poisoning harassment.

WHY ARE THEY MAKING THIS SHOW SO DAMN DRAMATIC. EVEN AT ITS DARKEST MOMENTS THE SOURCE WAS ALWAYS SO FUN AND STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.
Naofumi at first didn't believe in anything that the others say because of how different the tricks of each one but he tried all and they worked.
The problem with the Sword, Bow and Spear Hero is they refuse to believe that other people's are right, they think their way of doing things is the only right.
This may be given those morons a little bit too much credit, but I think the reason they are reluctant to believe that they don't know everything is because if they admit they're wrong about something, it will affect their sense of invincibility.
Just want to mention the scene about Naofumi using Itsuki's rarity System(went from R to SR) to boost the power of his soul eater shield. We can assume because of this that he can also now use Motoyasu's refinement System(like dark souls weapon Upgrades) as well as Ren's proficiency(basically it get's lvl ups by using it)
This is a very important thing on character develoment, since Naofumi now is moving toward the way to the true hero potential. There will be a lot to come in the future.
I think part of the issue is a change in how this all went down. I seem to recall in the other versions of this story Naofumi doesn't really come to this decision to spare them spur of the moment and part of the reason for sparing Myne to begin with is that she's part of a hero's party. So that is why she's still allowed to wander about the castle. Not because she's royalty but because she's treated as the hero she represents. Otherwise she'd be banished as her father was/is. And it has been also setup that should the waves pass she will in fact still be banished at the ends of it. She has no more standing as a royal. Her only current standing is being in a hero's party which of course has a finite life span. Her not changing as a character isn't really true. Before she was petty and vindictive to Naofumi. She saw a chance to take advantage of him and took it. The beliefs of the people that the shield is bad just helped her and of course her father's belief fueled her. Now however she's got revenge on her mind for what was taken from her. Her status her standing. This does protect her sister in that she no longer has a claim to the throne so even if she kills little sister it no longer is of benefit. It doesn't protect Naofumi and his party though.
You have to understand some people just dont change its like in real life where some people are so stubborn and set in their own ways that they will refuse to change
Myne would have failed poisoning Naofumi anyways. In the books he has multiple shields that reduces the effect of poison. By this time he should have max ranked a lot of them, giving him near immunity to poison. Raphtalia and Filo are the ones that need to watch out for poison. Also I think it was a cake not a pie.
The one question I had about this episode was during the beginning; when Raphtalia and Filo went into the church to upgrade and the question popped up on Naoufumi's screen "would you like to allow the targets to choose freely"???? I know the queen mentions specific items can affect the class upgrade process and Naoufumi says the cowlick that Fitoria gave Filo could be the cause for Filo's upgrade issues but, they never mention Raphtalia. I know that Raphtalia and Naoufumi discuss it momentarily and he tells her he wished she could choose freely before he left and thats pretty much it....

One of the best parts of the story. Not flashy, not impactful, but it is the turning point of Naofumi finally moving on from his experiences with discriminatiom.

Eh one thing that is overlooked in the anime is that each of the shields that Naofumi unlocks via monster parts comes with a passive effects once it is mastered if I remember right. I don't remember if it was once you fully master that shield/weapon or the passive effect kicks in simply once you acquire the shield/weapon. These comes in the form of small boast in stats like poison resistance, + 1/2 defense, increase crafting skill/potency with more stats the higher the weapon level/rarity I assumed. I think the other heroes over looked that and they just rushed for the end level monsters and such and skip the low level trash weapons. In MMO terms, its like getting power leveled to end game and rushed through a dungeon to get gear where as Naofumi, being a grinder, unlocks the weapons slowly and gains the passives from them. So once Naofumi hits "end game" he'll have way more stats compare to the other heroes who simply pick and choose certain weapons.
At least that is what I remember as I think it's like 1 or 2 slides in the manga and a couple of lines in the LN mentioning that each shield Naofumi has comes with small stats boosts.

Seriously this guy was my favorite anime character of 2019. He was like kirito except better. He started of with nothing, weak, betrayed, left with nobody to stand by his side and as a result he had trust issues, he is more practical, he didn't start of as op, he worked very hard to get to where he is at, he trained a slave to be a strong fighter that can even outmatch the cardinal heroes, trained a filiolial to be a queen, treated raphthalia as a daughter and not a spouse, he mastered the shield and proved that he is the strongest among the cardinal heroes, he proved malty's fraudery. he was the Kirito I've always wanted to have, but unfortunately they didn't.
Shield hero need the ressources to build the stuff he copies... In the audiobooks he tells him he would repay him later for it if im not mistaken
Keep in mind the small part shown of him upgrading and buffing the Soul Eater shield which he received from the third wave "boss" monster. He used it once in it's bare bones against the Spear idiot to great effect. Bitch/Slut has lost her status/Royal rank still. She is there and still causing trouble because Spear Idiot still keeps her as a party member. Also not mentioned, but shown is her Slave Crest is now permanent and can be activated by most people if questioning her.
Great minds think alike and Naofumi & Raphtalia both really share that trait a lot at this point in the series. 😌 "Bitch" never stops trying to get her way lmao! 😂

Four and arguably five of these are in Warframe. Mastery lock, weapon stats and modding, affinity and levelling, crafting other faction's weapons, custom weapon crafting (zaws and kitguns).

Their problems are their egos. Even in the manga they fail to recognize how weak they truly are. And when they're shown flat out that they can't hold their own In a high level fight, they throw tantrums. They're not heroes they're children pretending to be heroes. And calling naofumi a cheater proves it. He's not cheating he's got more experience than they do. While they were off galavanting and taking short cuts. Naofumi was exploring the country, discovering new locations and forming connections and establishing new skills. Hell when this is over he can retire his shield and become a famous Trader. Start his own business and make a killing.
Then there's the party members. They can't even keep them in check. Not even what? Thirty minutes into the celebration and that Knight was already wasted and picking a fight with someone who could very easily kill him and in front of the next in line to the melromarc throne. That is utterly disgraceful! Raphtalias one thing but you're in the presence of royalty and you're hopped up on booze telling her friend she doesn't belong there right to her face?! I'm shocked he's even still a knight after pulling crap like that.
yeah just ebcause they beat the poper doesn't mean their issues are suddenly fixed. they need a LOT more than just a single fight to grow up and learn. And to be fair, these guys are absolutely manchildrend even before they came to this world.

It's like that spoiled brat whose parents gave them everything in life. But then when they are cut off those resources and told to work for themselves, they don't know how to survive. The other three Heroes were on easy mode from the beginning and they became accustomed to that for months.
They want to do everything the way that they're familiar with and are too lazy to try something new. Even if it cost them nothing to at least give it a shot.

The former princess is still in the Spear Hero's party mainly as a way to pay back everything she owes. In the light novel, she has a massive bill of how she was using the kingdom's money and burning a forest.
