He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance Into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is 70 now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).

"... the sound of the crowd... I feel like everyone was mesmerised right now..."
That was the sound of that entire stadium "holding its breath" (which he milks for the entire time), waiting for that MOMENT, when he starts his drumming. Then the crowd goes wild.
Your reaction was exactly the same as the crowd, and was fun to watch, as I waited for YOUR moment.

I was blessed to work at a large concert venue ("Scandinavium", in Gothenburg, Sweden...) in my early 20's - and when it was announced that Phil Collins was coming to town, the tickets sold out in record time.
Watching him (from the very front and center of the arena...) perform this track (as well as others...), and the music literally pulsating through your body, was an experience I'll never forget...
He's an extremely musically talented individual (as well as conscientious to the plight of others...).

This song came out in 1981. A few years later I had moved from the midwest to south Florida. I lived in West Palm Beach. I don't know if it was because being inspired by the Miami Vice episode with In the Air Tonight playing on but I would remove the T-Tops off my new Trans AM and just drive all night only listening to this song. Some nights even going on down to Miami to hang out driving. There were even two times that I got so caught up to this song and found myself down in Key West. I agree with you both, this is one of those songs that will never get old. Love your channel guys.

Saw Phil in 1986 at Madison Square Garden and have seen nothing like it since! I thank God I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s!!! Such great music!👍👍👍👍

Aside of his voice, Phil Collins is best known as a beast on the drums.

Awesome to watch you two and that moment when he hits the drums, you react just as the audience does!! 👏🏽
Phenomenal live, blessed to have seen Phil in Genesis and solo.
He was on drums with Peter Gabriel on vocals, he stepped out on his own and Phil moved to front. Then Genesis decided to venture in solo areas, all very successful but it's Phil who blew up. He ruled my 70s, entire 80s into the 90!! Absolutely adore Phil. ❤❤
This video becomes even more priceless as we learn Phil can no longer drum do to health issues, so cherish this.
    AWESOME!! ❤👍🏽👏🏽

He's a legend who only "volunteered" to take the role of lead singer when Peter Gabriel (another solo success) left the genesis band. The rest is history. ☺️
