MY WIFE AND I WERE IN THE ARENA Almost a spiritual experience many many people crying at the end!!! JUST SO THANKFUL OF THIS EXPERIENCE. Sometimes they say you have to see it to believe it we saw it and still don’t believe it.
Wow! I've seen Phil Collins (solo) live twice, but never in Europe. That must have been wicked! I've described this song live as an orchestra of musical fireworks. It resonates on a cellular level. So amazing! I didn't catch this one, but I did see him in Madison Square Garden. The crowd walks out still singing Take Me Home together. It's fantastic.
Being a drummer Phil is one of my all time top favorites for a lot of reasons. One big reason is that Phil is left handed and plays the set reversed, like I do, to how a right handed drummer plays a set. Left foot plays the base drum right foot on the high-hat (Clap cymbal), and the tom-toms start with the smallest on his right side, progressing around to the left with the biggest tom ending around on his far left.
Seeing Phil Collins live is a religious experience. This live video is one of my favorites. That single song was worth the entire concert. I could have left feeling ecstatic if that had been the only song played.
anybody gonna mention that there's no cymbals on his drum set....it was designed that way for the maximum drum effect....the most iconic drum drop in music history...
Phil actually went all the way around the stage, coming in on stage left, walking down the stairs, crossing from left to right, climbing stairs on stage right, then crossing back to the left, where his drum set was being raised up, just before he sat down for the drum drop. Even though the song was played more than an hour into the concert, from what I've read, when he circled the stage in that very measured stride while singing, he was establishing complete dominance of the space.
I'm sure for everyone in the audience of this live performance this was an unforgettable event. Even watching this video from 20 years ago is still a memorable experience.
"Merlin" with the long beard is Lee Sklar - he's played on over 2000 albums with artists from Linda Ronstadt to Toto to James Taylor. Talented and funny.

I do air drums everytime no matter where I am. Pounding the steering wheel on my way to work! Or on my school bus. ( When I'm alone on the bus) 🥁🎸🎶🎧🎙️ This song is one of the greatest songs he put out in the 80'sand has climbed the billboard charts every summer. Because radio stations play this kind of music every year so it will continue to climb the charts every year. 40 plus years it's been out and yet it continues to shock everyone who sees the live broadcast from Paris. But please do everyone a favor. DON'T PAUSE THE DRUM SOLO. AFTER YOU SEE IT, THEN BY ALL MEANS BACK IT UP AND LISTEN AND PAUSE IT ALL YOU WANT. BUT THE 1ST TIME WATCH IT THROUGH....🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AN AMAZING! Such a shame he can't play the drums anymore. But I have heard his son took his place as the drummer and he's is amazing!❤️🥁🎶🎧🎙️❤️

Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance Into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).
