  • I was looking at some online videos for brakes and many people are using flashlights to film with and you cant see anything. So I made my own I hope it helps some out. 2007 Toyota 4Runner,V8 Front brake pad replacement work. This is a fast job and almost anyone can do it. It takes almost more time to take off the front wheel than do the work. I hope this helps with your brake project as you can also save a boatload of money doing it yourself.

    GREAT VIDEO SIR - You're exactly right, the vids I've seen are poorly lit AND poorly explained. I always do my own wrenching however I have never done the brakes on my '03 4 Runner. I prob would have attempted to remove the entire caliper leaving me with a puddle of fluid in my lap! Thanks for taking the time brother. Be safe

    That is the best displays I have seen to remove the lower clamp. You had me scared at first on the reinstall. Thanks for the information. I would like to see someone cover the measurements of the rotors to reveal if it needs replaced.

    To all of the people who liked these video's. I will be posting more on the truck little by little from small things to bigger thing's. Some very basic but some people really need more help. I have been getting tons of requests on doing the cabin air filter so I will be doing that soon. Glad I could help keep more money in your pockets instead of the dealers pocket !!!!

      Heli4213 very smart, thats what i did too was use the old pad and a C-clamp to force the calipers back in, theres no need to mess with the bleeder , just take the resevor cap off and drain off a tad bit off fluid with something

    THANK YOU!
    Its true these Toy rotors are really heavy duty and dont warp up like US built trucks as long as someone didnt change them out for the cheap aftermarket ones you can still do this.
    Or, if the pads dont get changed in time grooving them, & trucks not driven long periods with caliper stuck these rotors indeed last a very long time. Ignoring problems & brake sounds is costly.
    I remember when all rotors were built like this, we never turned them unless grooved up or vibration is felt while braking. Lightweight fuel saving rotors became a shops excuse to make alot more money on every brake job since early 80's so now people automaticly toss their better parts for junk ones. Mechanics know this but dont care until its their cars parts, then they do it like this...lol
    Remember, most shops pay mechanics commission for any extra part/job he sells you needed or not, they are salesman too...$$$
    Great video' thanks for taking time.

    Great clear video. Just did my rear brakes...same car. A little more complicated to change rotors and pads. When bleeding my brakes No Video I found mentioned needing to start the engine in order to be able to pump the pedal and force fluid thru the lines to bleed. Engine off= no fluid when pumping the brake. Not sure technically why but it’s probably something simp,e.

    My front left I believe are squeaking when I brake - sometimes . I Took to get them checked and I was told they are good but had just today looked at them and seems to be a bit more than 1/8 of an inch of pad left....should I change them and if I do the front do I need to do the back as well?? 2 vs four?

    7:17 the anti rattle looks up-side-down. 7:23 it magically flips to the correct position. Maybe noticed in earlier posts but I have some brakes to finish. Very clear and helpful video otherwise. Thank you.

    hi, did you just press on your brakes to push the pistons back onto the pad or did you use a different method. Any bleeding needed?

  • @thunderballz74
    @thunderballz74 6 років тому +1

    You had to flip the anti-rattle pin lol I had to do same. This video helped a lot. I've got track control light on in my truck after I replaced brakes because being the disease I am I opened the bleeder to back off pressure to one of the pistons that would not move. I only bled one side does anyone know if that's what could make traction light stay on?

    1/8 is barley enough pad no matter what they say. I would replace them. The back last twice as long as the front. For every second change on the front do the back no matter what. The exact ratio on the 4Runner is the front does 80 % and the back does 20%. Yes do the front not worth getting in an accident over. Good luck let me know if you have any questions.

    Cotter pins need to be curled around the mount pin or will rattle out and jack up your brakes when they fall out on the road.

    Isnt the grease going to be worthless with all the road debri and brake dust sticking to it?
    Seems like it would cause more harm than good.
    Besides that the video is extremely informative. Thanks!

  • @yrigoyen0108
    @yrigoyen0108 10 років тому +1

    You didnt show how to compress the piston back into the caliper , its different because theres four pistons.

    Why do you change the pins?

  • @Heli4213
    @Heli4213  10 років тому

    Because the rotors on this vehicle are super duty custom. These are not normal rotors and can last a break change no problem.

      It's a very heavy truck, I'm pretty rough on my brakes. I'm always slamming on the brakes.
      I replace mind probably every year or every 12000 miles. That's just because I beat on them.

    What about bleeding the brake line?

    • @royale192
      @royale192 8 років тому +5

      You don't need to bleed the brake fluid. If you don't open the brake line while replacing the regular brake no need to bleed. If you replace the line or caliper then that is one of the only times to bleed the brake fluid.
