I tried painting a velvet chair to look like leather | DIY faux leather chair

- Hello everybody! In this video I show you how I painted this velvet vintage chair to look like leather, I've seen a lot of other youtubers ( Lone Fox, DIY Danie, and Jamie and Sarah to name a few!) trying out this DIY fabric to "leather" trend where you take latex paint and mix it with fabric softener, paint it right on the chair {or couch} and it magically ends up looking like faux leather!
I really wanted to try this out for myself, but with a slight twist... I wanted to see if I could paint a more textured fabric, crushed velvet, to be specific, and have it look like realistic faux leather. I opted to go for a dark brown, aged look instead of the more popular "camel" brown that I see way too much of. Don't come at me, I just think its a little overdone if you ask me..
But I think I did a pretty good job! What do you think?
Thanks for watching as always! It means a lot to me as a small youtuber ..

Very cool job!! I have two chairs in my garage that I’m waiting to do but they’re not velvet. Great job.
I’ve been wanting to try this but was afraid my chair wouldn’t actually end up looking like leather. So I’ve been looking up all videos related. Yours was the most helpful.
Did you end up doing this
Amazing
Dude, excellent job on the shading 👍
I have one coat of latex paint mixed with Downey on my chair. It has a bumpy pattern & I'm hoping by coat 3 or 4, it will be hidden. Your video is very well done and gives me hope that my chair will actually come out.🙂
So cool, thanks for showing how to do this. I picked up some great tips from watching you, plus laughed along the way, you're funny and smart, plus brave to try this. X
Wow this looks amazing is it comfortable to sit on? Thanks for sharing
Did you do a 1:1 ratio? At around 5:43 it looks like you did maybe 3 parts paint to 1 part softener?
Looks good. 👍🏻🎃
Great job!
I love this. The chair looks so nice. How has it held up?
How has it held up? It's beautiful.
Hi, I’m going to be painting a fabric armchair with chalk paint. I’m just wondering is it best to mix paint with fabric softener and water? Also do I need to wax it afterward?
Can you use them for sitting
Nice work!
Did you use FLAT latex paint? or satin or semigloss or gloss? I see on the cans one is satin and one is gloss. I've seen other use flat. Please advise!
Yes one color was a satin finish, and the other was gloss... I did not notice a difference at all between the two, they both were the same consistency and dried about the same, although the gloss was slightly shinier... I will have to do more experiments with other paints!
Loveeewd it
Lindo.Lindo 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Loveeeed it
The inspo pic just took me out 🤣🤣
I love your video. From a thrift diva-I am concerned you spent $20 for that horrid thing and then spent time fixing it. Gah! $5-10 MAX. Curb finds (depending on your city) and Goodwill. (Goodwill is run by employees who don’t care what things retail for).
I agree $20 was too much! I don't know what I was thinking honestly .. But it looks cool in my bedroom now! Lol .
Someone charged you $20 for that chair?? 🤯 Gurl, nooo! It's a good thing you are so amazing with the DIY skillz because someone did you dirty (literally lol)!
No kidding right! I’ve definitely seen better on the curb. Spray paint was a new one! ❤❤❤
