Gorgeous job. That leather looks like it has been that same color for fifty years. I thought it looked beautiful after the first coat of clear wax too and never would have followed up with the dark- but wow! Your end result looks amazing. You've definitely inspired me. I'm redoing all my leather chairs including the one I'm sitting in right now starting as soon as my wife decides on colors. Happy spouse=happy house!
Love this piece. I've done quite a few fabric chairs and love the finish. Thank you once again, your techniques and finishing touches are so fantastic.
What a wonderful transformation! I have a couple of leather ottomans I am going to try this technique on…really beginner friendly 😊. As always, thanks so much for sharing your artistry and talent. The paint and wax on your hands give me hope!!
I am so glad you did this leather! I would imagine you might use a bit different method on a softer leather? At any rate, I see so many leathers just thrown to the ditch and now have an alternative to dyes and chemicals.
I'm so glad I stumbled across your video while researching how to paint my leather chairs. That's an amazing transformation. 😍😍 You did a great job. And your video presentation was flawless. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I'm going to follow your method step by step (including using the same brand products) and pray that my chairs come out like yours. Wish me luck. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove Was sorry to hear you lost your mom. Glad she was close at the end. Losing a mom is so inexplicable awful. Glad you keep her close in these ways. 💜
Oh Jonathon I Just ❤️❤️ It . It Looks GORGEOUS 👍 Just ❤️The Colour 👍I’ve got some leather kitchen chairs I’m Definitely going to paint them NOW ! Have an Awesome day 😊
Love it! I love how you still think of the highlights and shadows that would naturally be there. I have an upholstered chair in my art room and a purple chalk paint I'm going to paint it with. Just waiting for the right temperature so I can do outside. I'm going to paint the black base/wheels antique gold. Trying to go for a regal throne look. You know since it's my Art Throne! Just trying to figure out how I can add those nail heads or something else...stencil, gold leaf, etc.
Wow what a beautiful and tasteful job Jonathon Marc! I actually much prefer this colour to the burgundy shade..... and it fits in perfectly with your decor in your home.! 🌝🌞🌟Thanks again for sharing your creative knowledge and great video! . Love and light from Australia. xx
Thank you very much I’m really pleased with its new colour I know it’s not for everybody but it works really well in our home and it save me a lot of cost and hassle in finding something right 😊❤️🙏
Stunning transformation! I know you said the wax will soften the leather, so then can the chair be used in a functional manner or just decorative? Your tutorials are so calming and satisfying as well as informative.....could watch them all day 👍
Yes it’s a good question and the chair will be functional I would give it 20 to 30 days curing time just to make sure but the chair is instantly flexible again once waxed in the past I have had some small cracks appear and it’s been an easy fix clear and it works again just add to the look 😊❤️🙏
Hi mr Mendez, another great job, only thing I’ve never painted is leather so I’m going to find a chair at some stage and have a go , thanks for the vid
OMG!!! I absolutely Love that! Thank you so much. That is one technique I can't wait to try. You bring so much life into all the pieces of furniture you redo. This is just absolutely Beautiful! Thanks again for sharing your talent with us 😍
That’s a great question when I paint fabric upholstery I always sand in between coats to get a smooth finish but with ladder it’s a little different has a smooth finish to begin with I suppose it depends on how well that you like your paint down the last text year and brushstrokes the better if you do happen to get one or two brushstrokes than sand and repaint 😊
Hey thank you very much I suppose it’s one of those things our mind gets the better of us even I struggle just before I start painting and then once I get stuck in everything seems to pull together 😊❤️🙏
In the past when I’ve done this it has been pretty durable the paint doesn’t seem to come off maybe just a few cracks will appear in the tight folds places like the arms but all I’ve ever done is replied clear and it works it just adds to the look of age the wax fits into the cracks and just appears to be just like aged leather it’s pretty good but 👍
That looks amazing and thanks for sharing. Can I ask how much paint you need for a project like this please. I have something in mind but don't want to over order on the paint.
Hi Jonathon this looks absolutely amazing. I've just bought what I thought was a leather chair but think now its probably pleather and my husband has made a bit of a hash cleaning it thinking it was leather. Do you think this would work on pleather? I'm loath to do anything else in case it just makes it worse. Many thanks would love your advice, cheers Carol
Oh dear! Oh dear, I thought! What is J doing?? I think the colour on my iPad doesn’t do the colour justice because it looked like what comes out of a baby!!! But then the last shots really show the gorgeous colour! Amazing result!
Your channel is by far the most educational / inspirational out there, Jonathon. I’m curious about something and would love to hear your opinion. I’ve never seen any UA-cam refinishers use or even talk about the use of an airbrush in their workflow and I’m kinda shocked by this. The level of finesse that can be achieved with an airbrush when creating layered patinas, fades, visual effects and weathering is completely on par with a lot of the techniques and styles you apply to your pieces. I’m not suggesting it as a replacement to any of your techniques, but as a complimentary tool that can do things in new and different ways. Hell, I’ve even sprayed thinned chalk paint through my airbrush! What do you think about this idea? Have you ever tried it? Considered it? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Hi there and thank you very much for the lovely compliment and reaching out I have never used paint through a spray compressor but I know that other people have done it but it hasn’t seem to catch on in our world I’m not sure why🤔 i’m 100% sure that there is some amazing finishes that you could create especially blended pieces of furniture 😊😊😊
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove Well…. I think you should be the pioneer then! You can pick up a nice Iwaata airbrush and a small compressor for very cheap. And I’ll give you your first assignment >>> spray a coat of Tamiya paint in a nice rust color >>>> let it slightly dry >>> then spray isopropyl alcohol directly over the rust paint and be amazed at the organic patina that develops 😉
Hello Jonathon, lovely piece! Could you please tell me if there are any alternatives to the Annie Sloan wax? Unfortunately, it's not available where I live, is beeswax okay for painted leather? Seems my choices are quite slim - what ingredients should I be looking for in a wax?
I have a chair like that as well but it doesn't have the "dimpling". The previous owner had a cat and it has minor scratches on it. Have you ever fixed any scratches on leather and then "painted" it again? I am going with the same color, or close to it because I have a couch as well. Thank you very much. I too painted a leather couch and turned out great!
Mine too had minor cat scratches but I just painted over them and you can barely see where they were I think there is repair kits for leather online maybe do a Google search I suppose it depends how deep they are 🤔😊😊😊
I'm considering 2 MCM dining chairs with mismatched (but in good shape) leather seats and padded backs. I want them MCM color, like a teal. No tufts, buttons or folds. Sounds like a good choice for painting? What is the "life expectancy" of paint over leather?
Wouldn't have believed it possible - painting leather! What fabulous transformation. Thanks for sharing Jonathan.
