Hi Beverly, thank you. I'm happy to hear you liked it. The paint on the couch is still holding up really well. I haven't noticed any cracking or peeling. Still looks just like the day I painted it. :D
!!! Literally have a same color microfiber couch that I've wanted to try painting with and have been looking for a way to make it look like leather. This is perfect. Did you sand in between coats? Did you apply a wax finish at the end?
OH perfect! This will fix your problem. No I didn't sand between coats. I didn't do a wax finish it cracks if you do that.. I talk more about why wax isn't a great idea on the blog and what works better. www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/
I'm not sure how this would adhere to metal. I've never tried it. I would assume it might be to soft for metal and might scrape off easily. You can give it a try. It should work well with other fabrics. :D
Hello your couch is BEAUTIFUL!!! I like the clear coat effect how much do I add. Im going to paint my black .How much paint ,clear coat and softer ? My couch is like the same size.please help me out ,thank you so much☺

Do you think this would have the same effect on other fabrics? My couch is a canvas like material & I'd love to give it a leather look. Btw, your couch turned out beautifully!
I inherited some really sturdy couches that were left out in the sun so now the faux leather is peeling. Searched for hours on a solution and stumbled upon this awesome video!! My only problem is they don't sell the Valspar clear protectant anywhere in my town and I can't order it online. Do you have any other recommendations on clear protectants? 🤔 I really don't want to get rid of these coaches if I know I can fix them up myself! 😔
Inspired by U & kids wanting that something different I tried it on a piece of sheet fabric designed for a table runner soooo cute -- I wish I knew how to send a picture to you
Question? Did the fabric still feel like microfiber or more leather feel? You are awesome BTW! Such a great video with So much important info. Straight to the point and cute!
Nope definitely felt like leather. I honestly wish you could come touch test it LOL it feels amazing. AWWWE thanks 🤗🙈😘😬 Your too sweet. So glad to hear this was helpful.
Thinking about painting my microfiber sofa. Could you please update how much traffic your sofa gets and how it is holding up today, almost 4 years later. Thanks :)
I with a wipe or moist cloth. I noticed the effect comes off the slightest but in some areas if I scrub with soap to much but overall it stays really well. You can apply a clear finish to avoid any paint coming off at all :D
😬 Thank you Chalice! I wish I could host like an open house or something so you guys could actually see and feel the couch! I still can't believe it feels so soft!
What kind of paint are you using? Valspar? Interior or exterior? Flat? Satin? Acrylic? Also could you clarify, you say 3 coats before applying the leather effect. are those 3 coats just paint without fabric softener? Do you add any of the Valspar sealer to the mixture? I'm thinking I might test Zinnser Peel Stop or Lead Defender Sealer, maybe as a finisher. Great technique and video!
Would this be achieved on something that is already leather/vinyl such as car seats? My seats in my car are beat UP and I’ve been wanting the color of your couch for years! Thanks
So I haven't tried it myself but a lot of folks say they have tried it on faux leather and it works just as great. If I was to try it I would probably buy a piece of similar fabric apply the paint on it and use it on my car seat cushion for a few weeks to see how it wears. Pretty much do a test run to make sure it holds up before actually doing the full project.
@@diylilyardor3435 Google translate can't translate 'glidden' into dutch, so i don't know what to look for ;-) Is it paint fort ont he walls, or is it paint for on wood? And I gues it is waterbased?
i couldnt agree more. this is freaking fantastic. awesome!!! do you think i can do this on my cracked peeling synthetic leather couch too? i feel it will but not sure. it is soo bad now and i cant even sell it. i am thinking of it doing it up myself and use it again. so any fabric softener will do the trick?
Thank you :D I wouldn't use just any fabric softener. I've heard cheaper fabric softeners don't work that well. People have said it doesn't turn the paint soft or rubs off. The one I used is pictured in my blog post here- www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/. I would also try using same brand paint. Every paint is made differently with more or less primer so it can affect the rubberizing of the paint. I would definitely give the couch a try but I would remove as much of the peeling as possible before attempting the project. :D Let me know how it goes! 😊 Happy DIYing!
Great video!! What color and brand of paint did you use. I bought a faux leather couch with super glue on it and.just can’t get it off. So i am going to paint it. Thanks you are amazing, Suzanne
Thank you 😊OOH an Office chair. I've been wanting one with wood and leather for my office maybe I'll find one to do this on. That would be so fun. I didn't even think to try it on an office chair. Love your idea!
I tried this with a different brand fabric softener and valspar flat paint. Because, they do not carry the glidden brand there. And Walmart didn't have anyone working in the paint section. Was tired of looking around the entire store for help. In addition, the nearest Home Depot to me is 45 minutes away. Therefore, I had to use the Valspar brand. So I used fabric softener with Valspar flat paint and it did not thicken the pain at all. Rubberize it. If anything it's diluted the paint more. It didn't cause it to thicken up at all.
Hi guys for more info on the exact paint color and brand I used check out the blog - www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/
Thank you so much for this video
I will send you a photo when i get it finished. Before and after. Blessings

Yes it should. I probably wouldn't do it on velvet but, you can always try it out on something smaller and similar first. :D
How much did it cost to do this? Awesome Job by the way!
somewhere around $50 as far as I can remember. It's been a while sorry 🙈 thank you🤗
@@diylilyardor3435 thanks for the response🥰
@@londonk09 Sure no prob. sorry it took so long 😬🙈
Wow extraordinar 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks :)
This is epic! Did you mention the name of the major paint colour from Glidden? Thanks for the inspiration! :)
It looks great!
Thanks🤗
Awesome tutorial! How do you clean your couch now? If you were to wipe it with a wet cloth would any of the paint be removed?
I with a wipe or moist cloth. I noticed the effect comes off the slightest but in some areas if I scrub with soap to much but overall it stays really well. You can apply a clear finish to avoid any paint coming off at all :D
Wow! That looks great!
😬 Thank you Chalice! I wish I could host like an open house or something so you guys could actually see and feel the couch! I still can't believe it feels so soft!
Oii .. sou do Brasil .. e adoro seu canal .. 😃
Wow Brasil!! Hi there! Awe thank you I'm so happy to hear you like my channel! 😊🤗😊
I am amazed
Thank you :D
Great Job!!!!!
Thank you :D
You are AMAZING!! I love you))))
LOL Thank you
Would this be achieved on something that is already leather/vinyl such as car seats? My seats in my car are beat UP and I’ve been wanting the color of your couch for years! Thanks
So I haven't tried it myself but a lot of folks say they have tried it on faux leather and it works just as great. If I was to try it I would probably buy a piece of similar fabric apply the paint on it and use it on my car seat cushion for a few weeks to see how it wears. Pretty much do a test run to make sure it holds up before actually doing the full project.
Beautiful! I can't find what kind of paint you use, is it for walls, or wood, or is acrylics, or with terpentine?
I used interior paint. it's sold at homedepot and walmart. PPG owns glidden now maybe search for ppg glidden paint?
@@diylilyardor3435 Google translate can't translate 'glidden' into dutch, so i don't know what to look for ;-) Is it paint fort ont he walls, or is it paint for on wood? And I gues it is waterbased?
You used flat paint for the den correct? And how many coats of top coat did you use? Trying it this week (: great video!
i couldnt agree more. this is freaking fantastic. awesome!!! do you think i can do this on my cracked peeling synthetic leather couch too? i feel it will but not sure. it is soo bad now and i cant even sell it. i am thinking of it doing it up myself and use it again. so any fabric softener will do the trick?
Thank you :D I wouldn't use just any fabric softener. I've heard cheaper fabric softeners don't work that well. People have said it doesn't turn the paint soft or rubs off. The one I used is pictured in my blog post here- www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/. I would also try using same brand paint. Every paint is made differently with more or less primer so it can affect the rubberizing of the paint. I would definitely give the couch a try but I would remove as much of the peeling as possible before attempting the project. :D Let me know how it goes! 😊 Happy DIYing!
wow, great job on painting it :)
Thank you Jess :D D:
great tip . thank you!
Great video!! What color and brand of paint did you use. I bought a faux leather couch with super glue on it and.just can’t get it off. So i am going to paint it. Thanks you are amazing, Suzanne
Hi Suzanne, Thank you so much. OH I think painting it is a good idea. I share more about the paint on the blog - www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/
WOW! What an amazing video! I will be trying this on my officer chair. How much paint did you use?
Thank you 😊OOH an Office chair. I've been wanting one with wood and leather for my office maybe I'll find one to do this on. That would be so fun. I didn't even think to try it on an office chair. Love your idea!
Wow! 😍 You are amazing!!
SO happy you liked it! Thank you 😘🤗🤗🤗
I tried this with a different brand fabric softener and valspar flat paint.
OH NO!! So sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Did you try to apply it on fabric and see how it dried?
