I came over from Lone Fox and I'm amazed at the process you used to color the chair. The stain on the chair really adds the right touch. Beautiful job!
Surprised this isn’t getting more attention, genuinely. I’ve actually used this as a guide and started on a chair of my own, I think you did great. Not just on the chair but on the video. Very informative and detailed, easy to follow and well edited. This is truly, quality content. I thought this was a million+ views video for sure. No doubt it will be soon!
Thank you! This comment means a lot! And yes, I left the chair for about a month and it held up really well! My biggest tip is to just not use too much fabric softener. I think I made that mistake on one side. Other than that, I ended up recovering it. Painting was mostly a short term solution for me.
@@emmanies4901 I wondered the same as D S (comment below)...how does it hold up over time? what is it like to sit in months, maybe years later? IT is quite a good idea. Ive heard of dyeing - but dyeing doesn't seem like a viable option, especially if you sit on a dyed chair and are wearing white :-0. Great job and tutorial!! thank you for your efforts and sharing your idea and talent. Also have you any ideas about a "filler" for the rougher fabrics? I have 2 chairs - matching (orange) with that type of fabric and thought maybe a filler would help smooth the finish - but I have no idea of what may be a good thing to use...?
r u real I haven’t used a filler, but I would imagine it would be a pain. Honestly it has held up really well and still feels the same. Looking back, the only thing I would have changed was choosing a smoother fabric to begin with. The texture was the only trouble I ran into.
From Lone Fox Channel. I'm going to try this on a lamp shade. Such a great way to up-date furniture. If you didn't want the leather look you could just paint as many coats for the effect you want to achieve.

I've seen a few videos showing this technique now and it's really fascinating. I'm just wondering how they hold up to the daily wear and tear? Can these pieces be used or are their just decorative? Does it crack after some time or does the paint come of and reveal the fabric? Also, I had the idea, that maybe you could speed up the process for building up the thickness of the layers, if you use another, thicker latex product in-between, as the second to forth layer? More like frosting a cake. And then layer 5 and 6 to get the color you want. I was thinking of this rug-making glue. The one they put onto the tufted pieces as backing. As far as I know that's latex-based, too. Maybe it can even be tinted or mixed with the fabric softener, too

Very nicely done. Some other youtubers wax the finished product. maybe that takes care of the stickiness but they say it has to cure for a few weeks.
