UK Loved Comedian Benny Hills Grave and Mini Biography. Celebrity Graves

- Benny Hills famous comedian's grave in Southampton.
The first British comedian to attain fame through television, Benny Hill (born Alfred Hawthorne Hill in Southampton on 21 January 1924) was a major star for over forty years. Indeed, he was one of the most popular comedians Britain has ever produced - not only in this country, but also worldwide, with his television shows having been sold to at least 109 countries (Hill's emphasis on visual humour transcending language barriers).
Famed now for his bawdy, 'naughty boy' seaside-postcard humour, Hill was actually one of the cleverest and most innovative of comedians working in television in the 1950s and 1960s. The saucy, sex-obsessed sketches seemingly decorated with acres of scantily-clad young women (for which he is mainly remembered) came later; their preponderance in his shows eventually leading to Hill becoming an unworthy victim of political correctness.

Just adored Benny and the comedy he brought our way. RIP Benny you are loved and missed by so many. Thanks Alan for this wonderful video.
Passion and exactly what you mean He had that lovable appeal... And funny!
Ernie and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west and an amazing man😅 A very sad loss to society and the entertainment world. Rest in peace, Sir. Thank you
for your talent and entertainment
Like everyone, loved Benny as a youngster. One the great comedians along with likes Dick Emery., Happily watch such classic comedies today. Can imagine Benny was very humble just loved his craft making people laugh with innocent humour and money was an irrelevance to him. Broke the mold when he passed.
I agree with everything you said Alan. Well done
Benny hill was one of the funniest men on tv, he is still funny to this day!😊
100% true Sue
I grew up as a kid watching Benny hill every weekend. He creased me up with laughter.
Lovely video of a man who we all grew up with and having fond memories of . I'm only down the road from him near to Bournemouth, and never knew he is buried in Southampton. Very tempted to pay him a visit too. Thank you for this ❤
Hello DOzzy it's a nice big cemetery and you can park inside it in your car and Benny is very easy to find opposite the church. So up and have a nice afternoon if you get the chance. Good luck mate and thank you for the comment. Alan
No worries. Just looked it up and right next to the hsp that I've been to many times, who would of believed it ! I'm sure I will get there.@@MotorHomeBeepBeep
I had heard that Mr.Hill was quite generous to Family and Friends,as well to various charities, like Veterans and Children's hospitals.Thank You for this video about him.
My father had a terrific and mischievous sense of humour which is why he so enjoyed, as did we all, the humour of Benny. God Bless him, loved his programmes and those repeated.
Benny was hilarious and so close to the mark. That woman, Mary Whitehouse must have hated him. We, the people, just laughed. Another good one Alan 🤣👍
That's exactly correct Paul, there's always a tiny minority that take things too far and try and spoil the fun cu mate
There were people who hated Mary Whitehouse. @@MotorHomeBeepBeep
Many nights belly laughing watching Benny growing up ,wonderful carefree humour in the days we weren't told what we could laugh at,rip Benny❤🙏
How i had Fun watching Benny as a kid.

Hi PSY that's super kind of you to be so encouraging. I'm not sure what you mean by the other three. If you mean other members of Benny hills cast, that's a good idea. Take care of friend. Alan
Benny Hill was a very funny man I always remember my late father laughing at his antics in fact we as a family all did, they don't make them like that anymore RIP Benny 🙏. Thank you Alan great video 👏👏
Benny was charming and innocent. I found this humour lovely and thank you for the great comment

Nice memories for you Sharon
I was on my day off and I went to the funeral, some how the tree by his grave I ended up standing by the tree along with some of the hill's angel's. He was very much loved in Southampton
As a child in the 70s I loved Benny Hill and "Ernie" was such a great song! Still is! At the time, the humour was acceptable but can you imagine the uproar if it was shown today! Great vlog as always, Alan and I enjoy hearing about your personal memories too.
Been to his grave went 2 weeks after he was buried there .great great funny man .love him in the 70 s thanks Allan.

Thanks Alan.Never missed a show, Loved watching his antics every week. RIP Benny
He brought a lot of happiness to us in the 70s. Apparently he was a true gentlemen with those ladies too. So pleased nothing dubious has ever come out about him. Loved Ernie and the B side Ting a Ling a Loo. Spent time as a kid learning the words to both of those, always loved a comedy record. Lovely to see people still visit his grave. RIP Benny. She was a nice lady.
I know what your mean. Shirley, it's great. There's never been any nasty things being said about Benny except he didn't spend his money. And what does that matter? Thanks, Alan
Beautiful resting place marked with a lovely tribute stone
Loved his shows back in the day 😅 especially the speeded up chases with that oh so familiar music. Rip Benny and thanks for the laughs.
Loved Benny as a teenager in the 70's, can't say my mother approved but I think she like the rest of us really enjoyed his comedic hit record though; still shines as a classic today. Played a great part in the Italian Job as well; loved the man, loved his humour. Thanks for all the videos Alan, always enjoy them so much. (Very jealous you've met Annette Andre; what a stunning woman she is. I watch 60s/70s adventure series on a loop and she's always popping up on them, just gorgeous!)
Hello Rufus, I know at the time some women libers what complaining but it was all innocent stuff in reality. I really did think Anita was lovely and was quite excited to speak to it so thank you for that one. He was very sweet, very modest all the best my friend, Alan
We all watched the Benny Hill Show in our house and my mum never complained once laughing away with dad who didn't even have to say he wanted to watch it as i'd have that covered running through with a TV guide declaring Benny is on later and asking them if we can we watch it please? and i always got an enthusiastic yes from both.
His show got a little racier during the Kenny Everett years at Thames TV because Everett was on earlier and the Hot Gossip dancers on that were being sleazy and scuzzy then Benny felt forced to compete but Hills Angels toned it down after Everett went back to the BBC
Oddly Hills critics right up to the end of the 80s never moved on toning their "sexist" criticism down like he'd toned his show down after Everett left Thames years before and stayed stuck in a 1981 time warp citing sleaze which was no longer there and someone from the BBC triggered in the first place anyway.
One brilliant actor comedian one the best miss his presence just to rush home from work to watch is programme RIP benny we all miss you.
Such s touching & beautiful tribute Allen, I reckon Benny himself was standin' beside you there with his hand on your shoulder my friend.& with him perhaps a real angel, laughing away.
Hi Jigg p I'll tell you I'll seeker that's totally true. When I finish the film I always go back and say my own personal little bit. I always feel there's a possibility in some slight way They will be aware so I have my private word off camera every time. Thank you for being so great with the channel. Alan

Thank you Joy my favourite name
Loved Benny Hill and his unique sense of humour, sadly now in our woke PC obsessed country he would not be allowed on TV RIP Benny Hill
Loved Benny
Cheers Alan for showing us Benny's final resting place 🕯️🙏 He was genius and comic royalty to end every show with that Krazy chase,🤣🤣was always ridiculously hilarious 😂😂 RIP 🙏 Benny thanks for making the world 🌎 a Funny place Cheers Stephen 🍀🍀✌️✌️
Thank you Steve. Always brings back great feelings. He was a super comic. Thank you my friend
Great video again Alan. Its good to see my pebble is still there from when I visited Benny a few weeks ago. Absolutely love your channel so keep those videos coming. God Bless.
Thank you. Grave days. I'm in Ramsgate heading back towards London. If we get close we'll meet up. I'm waiting to see your Robin Gibb impersonation with the guitar. Should be a blast 😊👍
Sad end for Benny. I remember seeing his grave on Unusual Things. Yours is a good show too!
Thank you very much Anne maybe I should start a new channel called not so unusual things 😄

Another great video Alan.
Benny Hill was a funny man and I remember watching him with my Grandad, my Grandma used to get upset because she got jealous, thinking my Grandad was looking at all the scantily clad girls.😂
Classic comedy which we will never see the likes of again unfortunately.
Thanks again.👍
Thanks a lot Brummy nice memories
Beautiful Tribute Alan ...Loved Benny Hill so funny ...I saw a documentary on him & it said he rented everything never owned a thing
I know Debbie. It's going to be never answered. Why was so mazily but it was his choice. It didn't hurt anybody else and somebody got a nice big wedge :-) take care Alan
he was brilliant was benny hill. wish we could go back too them days. where people could have a laugh. not like today where everyone is a victim and offended. the worlds gone mad
Aw, that was lovely !
Loved Benny Hill. His humour was part of my childhood. Nice resting place. Wonder who gained from his wealth if he had no children?
There's only one thing I know for sure. Tina, it wasn't me :-(
The legend that was, and still is, Benny "save the furniture" Hill. You're right, he didn't do it for the money, he did it because it was his "thing" and that's where the magic lies.
That's why I was so sad when he was dropped and if he had his hands on that contract, maybe at the saved his life we'll never know. Thank you for the great comment my friend. Alan
Benny Hill - yes, I used to watch his show with my grandad when I was a kid. Loved the final chase in the outro. Lovely video, you are a great story teller. Kat
Wasn't Benny such a sweetheart and I love the end sequences too. I like your name freedom seeker regards, Alan
I love our video and Benny 💕 my Alan!!❤❤
Benny was a wonderful comedian with that cheeky wry smile with that twinkle in his eye when delivering the comedy punchline. Those of us that were part of that era in time when comedy was harmless fun and put a smile on our faces are very fortunate to of been part of it, not like in today's politically correct gone mad world...R.I.P. BENNY and thank you for the memories 💌. Thank you Alan for another wonderful tribute
Graham, I couldn't have put it better myself. Benny was wonderful with his cheeky smiling twinkle and everything else you said 100%. I agree. Thank you ever so much for encourage you me. Look after yourself and I'll see you soon I hope. Alan
Thanks Alan again for a great video. I think we all remember Benny from being much younger and the fun that came out of the TV when his show was on. So strange that he never spent his money but perhaps we was just happy with what he had and he obviously enjoyed his work. Great fun and we all need a laugh sometimes. Thanks again and I'm glad you're back and making videos.
Hi Louise the vast majority of comments seem to like Benny. There's only attorney minority that site in the wrong light and it's a great bit of reminiscing. Thank you for the great comment and yes I'll be making more on the regular basis with the people like it or not :-) See you, Alan
Love me some Benny Hill
Great video again Alan loved watching benny hill always remember when he was on our mom saying he's a dirty bugger

I'm very pleased about back the nice memories
Well said, expectations are a set up for failure. 😊
I remember the phone box and i think it was called Dial a Disc 😊 Good old days. Another great video for Benny. I heard he was banned from tv in the USA. Too saucy😂
You brought it back to me. Lynne, It was I think. Call dial a disc. You have to pay something and they played the number one. Wow! How things have changed
Yes Benny Hill was very funny. Shame he did not seem.very happy himself. However he gave us many laughs throughout his successful career. R.I.P Benny Hill⚘️⚘️
💚love Benny!
What better legacy than to leave people with a wealth of humour and fond memories. Benny was a incredibly talented man, miss him dearly. Excellent video Alan, take care mate👍😃👍
Hello Kermit a still super popular for the figures of his UA-cam films. Thanks for the great comment all the best mate
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep you too Alan (we share the same name) keep doing the wonderful and fascinating videos mate👍
We loved Benny Hill here in the states!
Hi Hank it's nice to know the channel is seen in America. He was a classic and still good to watch nowadays. Thanks mate, Alan
Cheers Alan
Catching up with your vids. R.I.P. Benny..
The late great Benny hill RIP. By the way speaking 🗣️ of legendary comedians I will say RIP Mike Yarwood the legendary comedian and impersonator who sadly died yesterday at the grand age of 82. Not many comedians from yesteryear r left today apart from a small few.
Oh and great channel dude 😎 from me here in a very warm Sunderland.
What's a tea? A massive star on TV in the 70s Mike it kind of get a caricature impersonation. He was brilliant
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Aye Mike was the godfather of impressionists which inspired the likes of Rory Bremner, Jon Culshaw, etc.
Another amazing fact is that Mike Yarwood's Christmas 🎄🎄 Day Special from 1977 attracted over 21.4 million viewers, which apparently is or was a festive record. In those 46 years I think only the 1996 Xmas special of Only Fools and Horses 🐎🐴 might have beaten it. Hmm 🤔
It's a shame he declined a bit from the mid 80s, but there u go. He will b sadly missed.
Loved Benny he was so cute and you are correct in comparing him with Babe Hardy so so innocent looking aww ❤️ if you ever get that bus on a boat to the US I’d give anything to see you visit Oliver’s grave … my hero maybe in the future eh ! Thanks Alan xxx
Hello Rowin along with half the world laurel and hardy are my favourites and you're right? Babe was so elegant and gentle and what was lovely. While stabilationship was so loving in real life, the opposite of steptoe and son, not that that really matters. Of course, what's on screen is what we all enjoy. I'd love to know the real Benny but he didn't do many interviews. Look after that. Beautiful hat see you 👍
Great video Alan much respect for your deadication (Excuse the pun?). Benny Hill without doubt was my favourite comedian ever. Plus we got to see such beauty ladies too! Keep up the good work bringing us these memories! YNWA ❤
Thank you Paul, Betty was known all around the world for his lovely humour. He was a very dedicated man
My cousin used to have rides on Bennys milk float. Also my sister in law is buried in same cemetery as Benny. There is also a road named after him here in Eastleigh, it is called, Benny Hill Close.
I remember there used to be dial-a -disc where you heard the latest chart sounds, great video,
It was earlier. You could there the number one on the telephone kiosk I'm going back...
Hi Alan, another great video thank you. I think we have similar tastes, I loved him as a kid, still enjoy singing along to “Ernie” know all the words! My dad used to sometimes call me a “ sirry irriot “ like his Japanese character he did ha ha! 👍
Hi Martin, Benny was classic in many ways but the Chinese guy cracked me up. The only something is that it got snipped out of my film due to copyright but never mind. Great to see you my friend. Alan
Love it.
Thanks.
There must be some people in or in Southampton that were on the Titanic.
My partner & I will visit.
My partner checked. There are a lot of people there who were on the Titanic.
Benny hill great comedy
BENNY HILL ❤
Rest in peace Benny. 🙏
I grew up watching Benny Hill. He was unique.
Is sad what happened after his death and how everyone wanted to get his fortune (probably not Ten Ton Ted). He was a genius. RIP Benny 'fastest milkman in the west' Hill.
Well done Alan great video of a great man❤
Thank you David. He was a great funny guy
I like the faces he pulled he many me laugh❤
Hi Alan. Hope you're well. I used to watch Benny Hill all the time he was funny sometimes I didn't know what to make of him. Lovley cemetery and gave. Love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💙 💚
Hi Gill yes I'm in Ramsgate. I'm staying down south for 3/4 weeks and I'm heading back to good old Bradford ☺️ Benny was a darling as so funny... It was in his own league for what I did. Hope you're enjoying the sun. Thank you as always for your support. Look after yourself. Alan
Comediene Benny Hill was amazin great entertainer but it was Brother not father ❤bless yer 😊 RIP Benny you bought lots of laughs ❤
Really glad you did this one Alan 👍 🙂 Thanks very much for posting 🙂
I want to live the day in the life of Benny hill. It would be fun. Thank you Alan
Love watching his videos on You Tube, non of this stupid PC madness we have nowadays just good clean saucy fun.
Used to love benny hill show and little Jackie Wright so good together very funny would love to see a re run off some of the old show we could all do with a good laugh thanks Alan another good one 👍 😂
Hi Netta you can still catch him on great TV. Sometimes the channel 50. I'm still enjoy watching him. He was a good comedian very clever he made. It looks simple. Thank you for the great comment. Alan
I thought Benny Hill was hilarious at the time🤣 what a magnificent grave stone. Interesting Sue Lloyd appeared in the Soap Opera “Crossroads” for many years. Another interesting video 📹
I didn't know she was in crossroads. Thank you for the info
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Yes, she played the part of Barbara Hunter for many years in the soap opera “Crossroads,” Marrying the Actor Ronald Allen, who played David Hunter, in real life.
Thank you Alan for another nice video of Benny, a man who always seemed a lovely bloke. I didnt know about the new contract, how very sad.
Hello Martin, it was the very day that he died. Isn't that terrible if it have just seen that it may have give them to happen incentive to carry on but thank you for the great comment. Regards, Alan
that is uncanny Alan poor benny if only he could have been called a day later , very sad@@MotorHomeBeepBeep
I heard he was sat infront of his tv dead?? Bless him😢
Funny show guy when comedy was comedy back in the day 👍 lots others on his show Bob Todd. Henry Mcghee to name a few. If remember correctly his show used be on Mondays around 9 pm. Now repeated on channel 65 free view with other classic comedy shows like it aint half hot mum and in sickness and health. Old comedy the best beats today's hands 👐 down... 😊
He told me one time he chose the name Benny because he loved Jack Benny the Great American comedian from the early 1900s...
Enjoyed the video Allen but wish you would have told us more about his life as you normally do...
Hello Philip, I useless spend time watching documentaries and all that kind of thing but I didn't have the time I was travelling and to ok Rena to see three people she wanted to and it all got a bit rushed on that one but I did. Love Benny and I did now about him from past. See you later mate. Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep keep then coming Alan thanks for keeping me entertained, love the showbusiness vids in particular.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You should have chased that bird around the boneyard to the sound of Yakety Sax mate, in tribute.
I would Steven if I could run :-)
Hi Alan, Great video. Sad that there are modern day grave robbers, I think it happened to Cilla Black grave too
Did it really? I didn't know about Cilla. I've been to her grave last year. Very sad reflection on society. Thank you for the interesting comment
Nice video
Always loved the Benny Hill Show. He was also very good in the movie The Italian Job. I read when he died that he was Asexual - and it was speculated that he was a virgin. I wonder deep down whether he was a genuinely happy and contented person? Fantastic entertainer.
I don't know. Gary, I would love to have interviewed him. I would love to know more. He never appeared much an interviews. I like to think he was happy with his work. Cheers mate
i now see a bit of Harrold Robbins in him.
He was also in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Different Times then!
Hi Alan am a Massive Benny fan ..... You got it wrong saying he didn't have a TV he did have a TV he was found dead with the TV still on in front of him mate .....his agent found him dead when he climb a ladder to look in too. His flat .....
Hello Andy, you're correct, I didn't describe it properly. Originally didn't have a TV. People used to say oh there was was a radio which was surprising because he was on the TV. But you're right, it's splashed out and got a TV. There's pictures of him in front of it but thank you for that. Alan
Alan I get really anxious when you walk away from the motor home and leave the door open 🤥
Hello Cathie that's love with you too. Notice and to care. I know I shouldn't do it but I've never had anything stolen after trying to remember the close the door 👍 Thank you, Alan
I’ve been to see his grave……easy to locate …
And ive seen his semi detached house around the corner…you can just imagine him returning with frozen fish fingers for his tea..
Would love to meet up with you sometime. Do that lovely lady travel with you as I remember her from another vedeio that you did .
Ifever, I'm close to you Eric. Of course, I'm quite happy to do it. It'll be fun and we are good friends. You're correct. All the best, Alan
i used to love it when benny kept slapping that bald head bloke on the head😂
Me too !! That's stuck with me all these years 😂
I know what you mean. The little guy was extremely funny wasn't he? Simon I tell you what if he did slapped my head and the slapped him back around the chops 😂 thanks a lot mate Alan
