I was Noele's secretary until 1977. I had a wonderful time and often look back on those heady days. RIP Noelle x
Wow that's amazing, thank you for commenting
Love the video
I enjoyed CROSSROADS in the 60's and 70's . Great actress and a very entertaining Soap .
I worked at an electrical shop in Ross in the 70s, I can always remember her bringing in her Grundig radio for me to replace the battery. She was a very pleasant larger than life character and owned a lovely white Rolls complete with her private reg so you could not miss her driving around a small town like Ross.
Those olden days of the 60s and 70s, ,a different time ,a different place, now a nostalgic memory for those left alive, with aged face !
Thank you so much for covering Noele Gordon. I was absolutely mad about Crossroads back in the day. Started watching 1974 and stopped watching when my favourite actor Ronald Allen was dropped from the show. Never watched another episode after. I took notes on all the episodes and was asked by the guys at the Crossroads Appreciation Society to put them all up on the internet!
I am 50 now and always watched crossroads when I was younger Benny miss Dianne amazing show memories thanks Paul for this blog Noelle wass a excellent actress xx blessings xx
For those that don't know, Noele's mother owned a house in Ross on Wye to which Noelle went at weekends after filming in Birmingham during the week, (who wouldn't), hence the reason she is buried here next to her mother. She never married.
RIP NG -- as a lad enjoyed 'Crossroads' very much.❤😂😮.
Binge watched the new ITVX three parter ‘Nolly’ last week, thoroughly recommend it! Like most people of my age I only knew Noele Gordon for Crossroads so I did a bit of Google research and was amazed at just how much she had done long before playing Meg Richardson. I won’t steal your thunder Paul and spoil it for your other followers so will leave it to you to do Nolly’s biography, can’t wait for this one!
It's on my to watch list 😊
I watched it and all my family, really good
Loved Noel Gordon in Crossroads she was a lovely lady. Thank you for your information it was very informative x
"Oh the memories come flooding back!. I remember watching Crossroads in the evenings, with my dear mum, when i was a youngster.
.......Happy Days!! & Thanks Paul".😊🤗👍👍👍
Good old Crossroads. Those were the days, and the wobbly scenery !
My father car was broken down important as I drive the bus and
Ha ha, yes, the cardboard walls, so funny.
I used to love Crossroads, I've only ever seen her in that, it's hard to imagine how beautiful she was when she was young and a lovely figure. Thank you for this Paul xx rip Noele Gordon xx
This is a blast from the past - I watched Crossroads almost every evening at 6.30pm with my parents and siblings. It was must watch viewing when I was a child, we loved it, even with the 'iffy sets' and phones ringing after the actor had picked up the phone! What I liked most about this video was seeing a Church active and used as a Church, welcoming the local community for a coffee morning. It reminded me of my Gran, who is long gone, but used to enjoy meeting her local friends for a chat, a cuppa and a slice of cake at the Church where she lived.
Very interesting video Paul of our Nolly, such a great actress, I knew her quite well being a brummie & she worked & lived in Birmingham, & she often paid a visit to the theatre where I worked in the wardrobe department, I was also at her funeral , again Paul you do such a great job & keep us all updated on the actor's that have now left us, all my best.....David...Birmingham
Thank you David 🙏
Its amazing isn't it that all the decades after Noele Gordon's death she is still remembered with such affection? The ITVX show was very well written and quite a tribute to the great Nolly having her played by wonderful Helena Bonham Carter. It was a well cast production over all. Noele's public had the feeling that they knew her personally and as well as being larger than life, knowing her own mind, there was always something a bit vulnerable about her I think. Thank you for this wonderful and thoughtful video.
Lovely to see Noel’s resting place , we all remember her and loved her so much.✨✨✨✨✨✨✨thank you Paul.
Hello Paul. Great video report. Loved the Church, but realised that I was holding my breath for an awfully long time, as I feared someone coming up behind you and placing a firm hand on your shoulder - making you, and us, jump two feet into the air! Aw heck, can you imagine! LOL
Noele Gordon... I met her at New Street Station as I was on my way to work, and she was, I think, talking to her manager, trying to work out her schedule. She got a little het up and swore (not a bad swear word, just an every day sort of swear word). The manager wandered off and I smiled at her... she looked back at me and simply said: "Men!" .... I burst into laughter and nodded, and she began to laugh too. Then her manager came back and I had to dash off because my train had arrived.
I was so happy to have [kind of] met her, because I got just a tiny insight to the real woman, and I could see that she didn't suffer fools gladly, but she did have a sharp sense of humour when caught off guard and in 'a moment'.
Loved the video report. Many thanks ~ Cobs. (GB)
Please never "stop I think I've found it..." mate. Your videos and comments are so spot on. Always respectful and informative. Thank you for all the time and effort that you must put in to make these presentations so watchable.
Much appreciated 🙏
I visited her a few years back, she is buried next to her Mother. Well done on finding the grave as its a huge cemetery. Noele Gordon was a big name back in the 60's and 70's. Another nice video Paul.
R you single
I wondered if it was her mother’s grave. She was known as Jocky.
Looked like my mum ...great lady s both..
My mum was a huge Crossroads fan and I remember watching it with her at the time. I actually worked in her house a few years ago in Ross on Wye, it was a care home for vulnerable adults.
I practically grew up with Noele Gordon. From has far back has I remember it was on daily I think I could be wrong lol. It used to make me laugh with flimsy studio equipment, you could see it just about to fall over. It's where 'Acorn Antiques' came from with the most talented Victoria Wood and Julie Walters and all the other great line-up. Thank you Paul.
Thank you for this one Paul. I was told many years ago from someone that worked with her that she was not a very nice person at all and very difficult.
Loved crossroads, and benny and miss Diane
Thank you so much for finding Noele Gordon's final resting place. I must admit it bought tears to my eyes as I loved Noele. I met her once as a child and she was lovely and very friendly. Its nice to know she is next to her mum. RIP Noele 🌹 🙏 💜 Love you always xx
I come from East Ham and East Ham Palace where she performed was a prominent venue in its day. It’s now demolished and was replaced by C&A and now Lidls is on its site.
I loved watching Crossroads as did my Mum. She wouldn’t miss a single episode. 😢
My son in law is a vicar and if there is a restricted area in a church it is usually indicated or roped off, so do feel free to wander round.
Thanks for posting Paul. There is stuff you mentioned I never knew. 👍🍺
Thanks a million .. did enjoy the only soapbo evervwatched .. like You, i enjoyed Crossroads as a young one .. she was such a professional actress .Hatches .theme music was great too.
. they dont come like her anymore .. Rob
Loved this programme,,,used to rush home from school,,to have my dinner and watch it with my foster mum at 17.20 every week day..😁
I used to deliver her newspapers for a short while, when I was a kid. She lived in a small block of very posh private flats, I always remember the other kids really wanted my round as she would always tip very well at Christmas.
Thanks
Such a beautiful woman and i remember her when i was 5 6 or 7 around that age in the seventies on crossroads she stood out to me as being such a lovely woman!
I remember crossroads in the 70s….my mother use to be glued to the tv 📺 watching crossroads! R.I.P. Noel
Remember her so sad she was heartbroken when she she lost her job great actress 😢😢😮
Lovely bio. Hadn't realised she has been gone quite so long! Time flies. Lovely cemetery. Nice one Paul. 👍
I lived in Ross on wye at the time of her funeral I have never seen so many flowers and wreaths. Great video
To be honest I never watched crossroads but my mum loved it but I do applaud her life and what she did with it
When me was a nipper remember it coming on around tea time. My mum and dad used watch it and me sometimes. It was on when tele was tele and we had good programmes on BBC and ATv aka Central. 👍 We also had good comedy shows Two Ronnie's Benny Hill Show and many more. Good Times never forgotten... 👍
Amazing that she was also a member of the ATV senior management team.
I loved Ronald Allen's ham acting 🤣
Part of my childhood memories 💐💐🧙🏻♀🧙🏻♀
Thank you for this video. What a great actress Noele Gordon was.R.I.P.
I would never knock 'Crossroads', it was a true family show, full of compassion, love, kindness etc, if a character was having problems, other characters rallied round to help, talk it through and try and understand, I remember when Mr. Mcfee lost his mother, Kath Brownlow and Archie Gibbs sat and listened to him and helped him, soaps today could learn a lot from 'Crossroads', programmes like 'Crown Court' and 'Coronation Street' had exactly the same mistakes as 'Crossroads', the soap attracted a regular 15 million plus, often getting higher ratings than 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale Farm', to this day Men's wedding is still the biggest wedding in soap, (a wedding that the production encouraged the public to attend the filming), as they wanted the feel of a royal wedding, and the QE2 episode to this day is the biggest exit of any soap character, and the motel fire I think is still remembered because of it's special effects and the fact the episode ended unusually with no closing theme. A wonderful true family show and there is no doubt Noele Gordon made it the success of was, everyone wanted to be like Meg.
I’m 51 now but I’ll never forget the Crossroads theme tune, when it was on British television in the evening, during the week. Reg Watson, The Godfather of the modern soap, who created Crossroads, went back to his native Australia, after the British soap ended and created another smash hit called Neighbours. Noele Gordon, sounds like an Irish name. I didn’t know she came from ‘originally’ East Ham in London. East Ham is a far cry from what it use to be, with many of the traditional east end folk, moved away, or sadly passed away. I’m cockney myself, so I’ve seen a lot of change in my old neighbourhood of Bethnal Green.
My dear Mum was from Bethnal Green, born in Preston Street, no longer there, but close to Victoria Park. So many other famous people came from this part of the East End, including Des o'Connor (mum knew him as a kid), Alfie Bass and Eddie Marsan.
I met Noele as a lad when she came to open a Tesco store in Birmingham. Bless her.
@@TheBrummie60 Wow, small world. Birmingham is a long way from Bethnal Green. I know Victoria park well, it’s a lovely park. I’m not familiar with Preston Street, but I believe it was close to Roman road market. When I lived there, I lived near Columbia road flower market, not too far away from Victoria park and Roman road market, including Brick lane. And I remember when I was young, Petticoat lane as well, on a Sunday, when my dad, who was a taylor, would go there, looking for a bargain. Also, my mum liked watching Des o’ Connor on the telly. He was very down to earth and funny, and another great tv personality who sadly passed away. That’s nice to hear, Noele helped out with the local community.
Tony Hatch wrote the theme tune to Crossroads and Neighbours. I wish I had 😂😂££££££’s
Thank you Paul Rest in peace Noel💐
I remember watching Crossroads after school with my parents whilst eating my tea..😁
On family holidays in the 60’s & 70’s we couldn’t go to the amusement arcades before mum had watched Crossroads!
Visited her grave a few years ago whilst staying in Ross-on-Wye for a weekend. Buried next to her mum, from memory.
Edit : I stayed at the Royal! One of the two rooms at the front with an absolutely stunning view. Ross-on-Wye is a really lovely place. Enjoyed that vid. Thank you!
It's very good to watch ...

I used to watch it with my mum.
Really enjoyed that Paul! She was an
absolute pioneer in television, especially at a time when it was a male dominated industry on the management/production side. She was a wonderful character. Nolly tells her story so well. Thank you so much for doing this. Also, beautiful church! Stunning!
Love watching your videos paul. How strange and mysterious was that date you read out on the bench. That was my actual date of birth, 25 of September 1962. Rewinded the video to check again. Another great video, keep them coming mate.

Thanks 👍
I can’t believe you dibbed out from trying a potential slice of homemade cake at the coffee morning. Can’t beat a piece of cake mate!😊
Ha ha, they might have dribbled on it 🤣🤦♂️
I was quite young when crossroads was on, but I’m fairly sure I would have seen it when we moved back to the U.K. in the late 70’s. I didn’t know much about Noële until I watched Nolly, which is excellent by the way. Thank you for covering her story and showing us her final resting place. What a well kept headstone. Was the one next to it a relative because the stones looked the same?
Totally fascinating and good to see her buried next to her mum. I remember watching Crossroads and have it on dvd. It was cheap an wobbly sets, but that was the charm of it. As for Helena Bonham Carter playing Nolly, I really don't understand why!
Another fantastic video Paul thank you and keep up the fantastic work you do x
My partner and myself are from Ross and know where Nollys nearby house, Weir House is. I think it’s now a residential home. I have seen more flowers on hers and her mothers grave since the ITV drama
really appreciate what you do paul and look forward to all your videos, thankyou
As always awesome content thanks

Hey Paul, a nice tribute to Nolly! As kid I remember watching this and Nolly herself along with Tony Adams, Paul Henry with Al Hunter Ashton later in Crossroad’s who himself sadly passed away very young at 49. Thanks again for posting.
Another great one ..keep them coming..👍🏾
Another fantastic video again Paul. I really love to watch them. You always do a great job and stress yourself with driving a lot. Thank you so much for that. Take care of yourself, greetings Melinda
Oh how I miss them rickety sets, and like you Paul I used to see crossroads as a kid when my mum was watching it. Noele and Benny were the stars.
Thanks Paul for this.I always made sure I was home from school to watch Crossroads.Loved it.I think she was very underated,in my book Paul. Can't wait for your next one.👍
I worked at The Odeon in New Street Birmingham, next door was Raymond's hairdressers ( no longer there). I was outside when Noelle Gordon got out of a Rolls Royce and entered Raymonds. Less than a week later, she was dead.
Thanks Paul……what a lovely grave stone! And a stunning church….looked like a statue of Shakespeare, but that can’t be right!….was waiting for you to get cosseted by the coffee mornings ladies, bless you! ….don’t think you need a diet all the walking that you put in for us! Especially today! Really grateful..take care! Love from Norfolk! X
Thank you for your informative videos, you clearly do a lot of research, so interesting and so respectful too to those who have died. Thank you again!

Thank you for another video. I used to watch Crossroads when I was growing up.
Another great vid paul
Wow, a blast from the past, watched crossroads daily, thanks Paul 😀
A very talented lady a natural on cross roads
Thank you for this. When my granddaughter was christened at that church,I spent quite a while searching for miss Gordon.
Now I know where to look properly xx
Thanks for this Paul my late mother was a massive Crossroads fan back in the day and i can just about remember most of the casts names i wasn't very old then.1985 how time fly's.
I've heard of Noele Gordon but never watched a single episode of Crossroads so this was someone I knew very little about. A lot more to her life and career than her role in Crossroads. The church is wonderful. I hope you enjoyed your walk around Ross on Wye, certainly looks like you did your 10,000 steps. I sympathise with anyone having to perform that turn in a driving lesson.
Great video as always Paul, loved watching crossroads, miss Diane and Benny as well as the great Noel Gordon x
Remember her from my childhood too Paul. She was a very striking looking woman. Beautiful headstone. I presume that was her mother or sister buried next to her. Thanks again! X
