For the record, the slim ps1 is not the psx. Officially, the "phat" original ps1 was just called the PlayStation and the slim variant was called the PSOne, because by then Sony had announced the PS2. Later, the community branded the original variant the PS1, and PSX became a catch-all term for both variants of PlayStation. However there was actually a device in Japan called the PSX which was a PlayStation and DVR combo device since DVR had already taken off in Japan at the time but it was mostly still unheard of in the west...
How well does this handle games that switch resolutions on the fly in comparison to the Bitfunx cable? And does it support the PS2's Component Signals? I'm asking because I own games like Klonoa 2 and God of War which took advantage of the resolution changes for specific moments like loading screens or cutscenes, and the signal would go out for a couple of seconds with the Bitfunx cable and now I'm looking for better options.
I have component cables with my PS2. I have played Gran Turismo 2 and Metal Gear Solid on it with those cables and brotha...believe me, it's a night and day difference. If these cables truly tap into the RGB output of the ps2, it will look significantly better than on composite PS1.

The overblown reds and forced 16:9 is a deal breaker for me. There's always some draw back with these HDTV cables. Preferably it should output at 480p in 4:3 with potentially an aspect ratio toggle.

I recently bought this and after the first couple days I started having an issue where I'd constantly get a static noise the gradually grew louder and louder until the sound went out completely. Then the entire device stopped working altogether.

@@Lookwhatthesandsdonedidtome Nah, there wasn't much information on my situation at the time so I never found any answers. Eventually the device stopped working altogether and I just wound up going using a different hdmi device for a while.

I may have put it on another video regarding the PS2. I did buy the most current version of this cable for the PS2 and the picture is good and the sound is good. However, there is still hissing when there is no music like on menus and loading screens but it still has the tendency to scratch the discs. PS1 black bottom games in my case mostly, fat and slim. So can you say whether the cable is converting the ps1/ps2 rgb signal or just the composite video signal? The dvd being all green makes me wonder “if your ps2 was set to rgb would the dvd play correctly “? I would buy them if they converted the rgb, but not just for composite video
So it taps into the RGB output of the PS1 if I'm not mistaken? That's what I'm looking for with a cable. I can manually make it 4:3 and my tv does 720x240p so it's scales perfectly.
I have a 4k hdtv. Have the PS2 connected trought HDMI. But I am unable to play PS1 games on the PS2 trought the HDMI. For example. If I am playing GT2 I can do all the selection thing. @@RoXolid ok so I didn't that I plugged the USB cable to the wall and plugged the hdmi accordingly but I'm still not getting any signal on my TV on the hdmi sources
So does this actually make the image look better?? I bought an AV to HDMI converter and the image is literally blur even though it's technically on 1080P.
It does look better to a point. Those AV2HDMI adapters are really not that great, much of the reason is because they're dealing with a garbage composite signal to start
No, no hyperkin cable is lag free, same with Pound. If you REALLY care about the extra frame or two, shoot for the rad2X. For $20extra, you get much better build quality, better visuals, i BELIEVE it doesnt require its own power though I could be wrong on that, and it's considered lag-free. Technically everything adds lag, but it's beyond the point a human eye can recognize it and below the point a console can even register the difference
Does anyone know if PS1 games played on a PS2 slim have good video quality with this cable? I'm debating if I should get a PS2 slim or ps3 to play ps1 games on an hdtv. Thanks in advance.
just play it on ps3 it will give prober upscaling to 720p and 1080p specialy for 240p games, cause this dumb caples just uses the same chips as generic scart upscalerers that werent made for video games when you have play like 2d games like rayman or mega man x4-x6 you get wierd lines when the charters move cause its the game is 480i when isnt and scales it poorly

I would like to know the answer to this question as well
I bought one for my PS2 because the PS1 game resolution switching is annoying. After using it for a couple of months here is what I’ve found. Note: other people might have different experience and opinions than mine. Pro: Great for PS1 games on PS2. The PS1 games I play look great and no more resolution switching problems. Con: My favorite PS2 games like Monster Hunter 1, Monster Hunter G, and Monster Hunter DOS are WAY TOO DARK. For example, I can’t see in the caves and it shouldn’t be like that. Furthermore, adjusting my tv levels don’t work. It just looks like mud or washout when I adjust the levels. However, Just using the original component cable plugged into an HDMI upscale box looks way better for most of my PS2 games. Conclusion: If you play lots of PS1 games on PS2 then it might be for you. If you just play PS2 games getting a Component to HDMI upscaler might be better. The upscaler I use can upscale to 1080p but flickers resolutions on PS1 games. That’s why I bought the Hyperkin. At the moment I switch between the two cables if the PS2 game is too dark but still use the Hyperkin for PS1 games and PS2 games if the darkness doesn't affect the PS2 games too much.
So before i buy this, am i correct that youre confirming that this works with playing PS1 games in the PS2? I have a ps2 to hdmi and it unfortunately doesnt work to play ps1 games on ps2 which sucks
@@guillotinebeard Since that post I don't use it with my PS2 anymore. I use it with my PS1 but the video is still too dark. However, I bought an HDMI to VGA adaptor and connect via VGA instead of HDMI to my TV. It looks much brighter in VGA.
Almost every console even with nintendo multiout has a different signal PS2 has some 480p so it needs componet PS1 has 240p so> SCART these multi system cables give bad name to these adapters (NES composite / SNES SCART / N64 S-Video) making multi system adapters should be cheaper than RGB solutions but they all cost $30
I rather buy an old TV than wasting $30 on the Hyperskin converter. Those retro consoles such as the Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Wii, and Gamecube, its picture quality looked better on an old TV. It's not built for HDTV. That's why its picture quality looked ugly on a HDTV. You can go buy an old TV for $15-20 at the thrift stores, or the flea market.
@@RoXolid Well the picture quality using PS2 hyperskin is decent, but the picture quality on the CRT looked better. I don't trust using any HD converter for any retro consoles. I heard there's a risk of frying your consoles.
All my ps1s are a tighter fit that my ps2s, even with the official cables. Don't know if that's age, or maybe they were always tighter. But I don't think it's a problem with your unit or the cable.
I'm really curious about a comparison with the Pound HDMI cable .
Check the channel, I do have a video on the pound cable for the PlayStation
I have a 4k hdtv. Have the PS2 connected trought HDMI. But I am unable to play PS1 games on the PS2 trought the HDMI. For example. If I am playing GT2 I can do all the selection thing. Whe I go to the races the image and sound dissapears and the TV goes back to input select. Does anyone has the same problem?
R you trying PlayStation 1 hyperkin + mclassic?
I just bought this. I plug this up to the PS2 and tv, but how do I stream all that?
You need a capture card of some type. I like the Hauppague PVR60 Pro myself as you can also capture direclty to an SD Card and has 4K Passthrough. Here's a link to check out:

This may give me motivation to get a PS1 & PS2, just to recapture all of the consoles I previously owned. But one question remains... why there isn't something like this for the PS Vita?
Not sure, I know there's one for the PSP, and the Playstation TV was basically a Vita with a TV Out.
@@RoXolid I know about the Vita Tv, but I still have my original PS Vita and having a solution where you don't have to buy another console, nor hack the one that you have would be great. Anyway, thanks for the video and info.

I have, do not recomment the Pound cable.
@@RoXolid OK found your video about the Pound cable and it wasnt that bad you were kind of excited about it. Something changed? Im between a Hyperkin and Pound and seems the opinions are quite divided there. Thanks a lot! Love your channel.
So the psx through hyperkin hdmi pulls the rgb ? And upscales to 720p . That would be wonderful on a 720p lcd tv . Even if it was an older one .
I'm not sure that it's pulling the RBG, I think it might be pulling the S-Video to be honest.

I bought one of these hdmi ports for my ps2. It works for the ps2 but if I play a ps1 game on the ps2 I get no signal. Does this have the same issue when playing a ps1 game on ps2?
U cant do that 240p is needed
PS1 on PS2 through component which is what the HDMI adapter grabs causes PS1 games to be displayed in 240p.
720p without upscale? How does that work?
it is upscaling, but it's not the best quality

Yes, you need to check the portion of the video where I mention changing the video output settings. DVDs will always be green however
My hyperkin has this problem where the sound will cut out after like 5 minutes. I discovered that I can delay the sound cutting out by blowing into the vent on the hyperkin itself. I would like to know what's going wrong with it because for a while it was working just fine.
I am experiencing this right now with this cable. Have you found a solution? Those RCA HDMI adapters are junk. They fix the sound issue but the picture is much worse.

Does it support ps2 games that can output games at 480 progressive scan. I know the Pound Technology box only supports 480i.
480i only. It uses the rgb scart option.
Mines working but I hear a buzzing noise
Are you using an external power cord?
What's the point in having a brilliant picture if you can't do anything I use a cheap Chinese HDMI adapter second version yellow and though the picture is not the best you can still do everything a ps2 can do on a HD television.
I don't understand your point. What the point if you can't do anything, what do you mean?
@@RoXolid u can't use DVDs alotta people have trouble playing ps1 games the cheap HDMI adapter I use is still better quality than composite but u can play DVDs and ps1 fine.
Ah, that makes more sense. But to your point, there are so many other ways to play dvds now, where when the PS2 was released for many it was the only DVD player in a home.
How would you compare this with the pound ps2 cable?
Virtually identical performance

So does this actually make the image look better?? I bought an AV to HDMI converter and the image is literally blur even though it's technically on 1080P.
It does look better to a point. Those AV2HDMI adapters are really not that great, much of the reason is because they're dealing with a garbage composite signal to start
@@RoXolid Thank you so much. Can't wait to see the difference.
looks pretty creative
It's a neat setup
Is it lag-free? Especially for the PS1, thanx 4 the answer in adv.
I agree with 100% of what Kevin said here!
I'd normally watch it all but I'm very busy right now. How many milliseconds of input lag are there?
I don't have a precise measurement, I don't have the equipment to measure that
How many inches is that tv ?

just play it on ps3 it will give prober upscaling to 720p and 1080p specialy for 240p games, cause this dumb caples just uses the same chips as generic scart upscalerers that werent made for video games when you have play like 2d games like rayman or mega man x4-x6 you get wierd lines when the charters move cause its the game is 480i when isnt and scales it poorly
I bought this hdmi awhile ago for my ps2 but my tv doesn’t pick up anything for some reason. The tv knows something is in, it’s just not displaying anything.

I get that this is a sponsored video, but you already did a video of the POUND Technology cable, you could've at least mentioned what is the better option
This is not a sponsored video. I don't accept money for producing content, at that point it's not a review it's a commercial. As you pointed out, I have a video of the Pound cable as well, and now also the LevelHike cable. What I look for is different than what others might look for, which is why a review I produce focuses on that product and not others. That being said, I actually do prefer the LevelHike to either the Pound or Hyperkin cables, and I invite you to check out that video here on the channel.

No need, the PS3 has native HDMI output
@@RoXolid not necessarily, the ps3 hdmi output is HDCP protected so for streaming/recording workarounds are required if your capture card/splitter can't fix that problem. which means the AV slot on ps3 is fair game if a converter like this works.
There's an adapter that HD Retrovision sells that allows you to use Genesis Model 2 Cables.
I use my ps2 to play mi ps1 games the accessories work good
I do that too, less systems to hook up that way
I think it’s perfect for PS1. Just adjust the aspect ratio
That's true i think they make that for ps1 mainly but for ps2 better to use mclassic or retrotink 2x Pro
I have the same Psx Playstation as you
I rather buy an old TV than wasting $30 on the Hyperskin converter.
I am not a fan of CRTs at all, I would not ever want to have to buy one of them again
@@RoXolid Well the picture quality using PS2 hyperskin is decent, but the picture quality on the CRT looked better. I don't trust using any HD converter for any retro consoles. I heard there's a risk of frying your consoles.
I have never heard that there is a risk of frying your console from any of these sort of adapters or cables.
Nice review but come on everybody knows psone and psx.
Why not just play on a ps3 that can also play ps2 and PS3 games? Seems like a no brainer.
Not all PS3s can, and honestly the emulation insn't perfect. Same reason why I'd rather play on a real Gamecube than a Wii.
All my ps1s are a tighter fit that my ps2s, even with the official cables. Don't know if that's age, or maybe they were always tighter. But I don't think it's a problem with your unit or the cable. Be interesting to see if ps1 games look better on the ps2 with this cable or on the native hardware. IIRC, some games did look better on ps2, others looked better on ps1, even with the regular cables...
Thanks for the feedback
