I pre ordered mine today.. it will be here in Canada by mid November. They start shipping the cables out on OCT 31. good price tag on them $80 to the door. Best price I have found so far for what for I want to do. I'm pretty excited
I've tested about 40 TV's with the Time Sleuth and none took longer to scale 480p than 720p or 1080p (to 4K)...they were identical. Interlaced vs progressive was the only difference....scaling 480i took around five frames longer! So, you shouldn't have an issue with this cable adding lag.
zaneiken It kind of matters. I definitely prefer the 720p output of my AVS over the 480p of the Wii. While I don't need razor sharp pixels, and even prefer the bit of softness that 720p displays, 480p is a bit softer than I prefer. 720p also works rather well when integer multipliers are factored in. Sure it's nitpicking, but that's sort of what we do when we are striving for minimal increases in visual performance.
From what I've read about the lack of Digital Pins on a Sega Saturn for Digital to Digital HDMI mods (UltraHDMI 64 and DCHDMI type) I think this is a must-have purchase for Sega Saturn owners trying to play games with 240p 480i switching.
The Playstation cable doesn't support 480p, so not too useful for the Xbox if they build a Xbox version of this cable. Plus this seems to be purposed with properly upscaling 240p in mind, which is a non-existent resolution for commercial Xbox software. I would love to see a good Xbox HDMI cable though, but the specific capabilities of this cable wouldn't be a good match for the platform.
I guess I should look into buying a rad2x for my genesis 3. I bought a pound cable (returning it) and my Tv didn't seem to want to process the signal correctly. Same with the hd retrovision equivelant component cable made my retro gaming cables for my model 1 genesis (which I sold last month). Both consoles looked like a worn VHS tape film with flickering and jittering.
Your comment just made me hit subscribe, especially since I’ve been getting into video quality lately. I used to just use composite av cables on every console without hdmi. Now I’ve invested in a retrotink and will be getting component and s video cables for my consoles. Also heavily debating a crt, but I don’t really have the room for one any bigger than like a small 13” one
@@nickwallette6201 LOL! ...but seriously: I've installed hundreds of UltraHDMI kits into NTSC consoles and testing with composite is part of my workflow. There is something drastically wrong with what we are seeing here. It's abnormal even for NTSC composite on N64.
I was thinking the same thing. Shouldn't be an issue with the chipset either, since composite looks fine through the RetroTINK-2X. Wonder what's going on with that. Also curious about the black speckles that you can see occasionally in all the captures.
@@Sirotaca I need to look again but if it's what I think it is: The N64 RCP (GPU) actually renders with little single-pixel holes all over everything but a final stage in the RCP render path tries to detect these holes and fill them in using surrounding pixel data. It doesn't get nearly all of them so you see black flecks appearing on a lot of stuff. Still looks far more stable than PSX with all the texture warping. ;)
I will be ordering this as the last of my Hyperkin adapters has broken - hopefully an Amiga and also a PSP (Maybe too Atari and 8 bit Commodore too) version will come in the future! Keep up the great work :)
Great video, Bob! Very beginner friendly! This Cable is definitely the long awaited cheap and good solution for people that are not too involved in this scene and don't want an expensive and complicated setup (yet). I do have one little gripe though: the Composite Video capture. It's unusually dark and very saturated. Is that because of the cable or just your particular N64 that you were using for capture?
I think it's a combination of processing and the prototype's firmware. We were concentrating all our efforts on the RGB auto-detection and weren't really paying attention to composite quality. The final product will look just like shielded composite through the TINK2x though...which is shockingly good on the N64.
Thanks for the great info! I had thought I had lost my NeoGeo collection, but found it while going through my parents storage during my Christmas visit. The only major issue was the RF cable. I know, I know! It was all I had and ignorant high school me still loved it! Anyway, I remembered this video and checked to see if there was a NeoGeo version of the cable. And there is! All that's left is to wait for the cables to ship. Thanks again!
Finally! This is truly exciting. Been expecting something like this. Video is still playing ads. I assume this is based on the same tech as RetroTink 2X?
Glad to see that it is! I can see this having a huge effect on demand for UltraHDMI. Even though I sell UltraHDMI, I'm glad there's finally an alternative under $100 which I can recommend. Thanks for letting us know, Bob!
Well, UltraHDMI is better in every possible way, except two: You'll actually be able to buy this and you don't have to install it. That's a big deal for some, but if you can mod (and find an UltraHDMI), then absolutely do that instead. No disrespect meant to the RAD2x, it's just a fair opinion.
@@RetroRGB A lot of people contact me to ask about UltraHDMI when they hear about the group buy and I'm the first to admit that it isn't worth it for everyone. I like to list alternatives along with typical prices, strengths, and weaknesses to avoid any kind of buyer's remorse. RetroTink 2X and these cables have one more big advantage than the ones you mention: UltraHDMI makes no attempt to de-interlace 480i. It just pipes out that 480i image as 480p or scales the interlaced frame as progressive to 720p/1080p, complete with interlacing artifacts. A digital display will also make no attempt to de-interlace with any of those resolutions, since it's technically a progressive frame of interlacing artifacts by that point. Granted, the N64 is primarily 240p and it's barely noticeable in 480i menus but the combing in a 480i game can be pretty distracting. Not with these!
Emmett Turner sounds like they need to re-make/improve the ultra hdmi mod to do bob-deinterlacing. An hdmi mod that cost $400 for n64 that doesn’t de-interface is kinda stupid. But hey if there isn’t many games that output 480i on it I guess stick with the ultra hdmi mod?
10:47 It looks like this might have the same problem which I experienced with the XAgent cables I've recently tested. The video is VERY dark. Crushing blacks and no way to adjust it through the display without getting a washed out looking contrast.
Bob claims this to be prototype footage and not at all final. They were more conscerned with getting clean rgb footage and that the final product's composite footage should look identical to properly shielded composite cables.
Hopeless to even think about a 8-bit NES compatibility ? Indeed I see no mention of the Nes Multi-Out anywhere on retrocable UK or retroRGB itself. I guess it's because it doesn't output actual RGB signals and the RAD2x tech is based on handling those and not composite signals, correct ? Still great news for my SMS and Snes though, thanks for the video !
@@ians_parks Thanks for the valuable insight. I take it does work sending a 480p signal to a monitor when connected to a french NES Multi Out connector albeit in composite format (which is what any unmodified Nes outputs through the cable anyway) ?
@@bluecollargamer7071 If you want to simplify your cable management for a single console. Like im constantly swapping out my snes and n64 with the retrotink2x. If i got one of these for my snes then i can just leave my n64 svideo cable in my retrotink2x and just forget about it.
@@jamon1567 the retrotink2x accepts comp, svideo, and component. Hd retrovision makes component cables for snes and genesis that essentially convert the raw rgb signal to YPbPr so that they can be used with the retrotink2x and any monitor that has component inputs.
There will be, but for now you can just get one this to use with it: www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/32X-PATCH-CABLE-WITH-FEMALE-9-PIN-DIN?tracking=5543fb4c077bb
I'm probably going to get the PS1 version because of that 240p to 480i switching. Wish I could get it now because I want to play Silent Hill this October but looks like I'm going to play it on my PS3 which sucks.
It's worth pointing out that in europe we almost always have component and RGB over scart inputs on modern TV's. This doesn't mean you don't have to consider lag but it does mean you don't necessarily have to tit about with hdmi converters.
Oh!!! LOLLLL, I'm sorry, I was half asleep when I responded! I bought a reprint off a random eBay store years ago. You should still be able to find them.
@@RetroRGB hahaha, all good brother!! I have a bunch of Nintendo power posters , jist cannot find frames 🥴. Also I just preordered one of these :) I’m pumped !
Bob claims this not to be final. Its simply protoype footage and they were more concerned with the rgb footage than composite at the time. The final product should look identical to a properly shielded composite cable.
Awesome Video Bob!! WATCH OUT THOUGH! I best stupid EON is going to just copy these and just reshell them, then up the price to $150 like they do with every product they sell. Mike Chi REALLY has to pursue legal action against stupid EON.
So, will this resolve the fact that I can't get my SNES to display audio or video to my Samsung 1080p TV using RF or AV Composite cables? I'm pulling my hair out after I've cleaned my console, soldered a new fuse, and still can't get my console to work on my flat screen TV. I'm not interested in paying $1K for a Framemeister or buying an old CRT tube TV.
@@RetroRGB no, and you're going to get more views for it. this is a great product--a game changer. you're going to get praised for it. ever heard of a second opinion? sheesh.
Oh man, that Nintendo support is *huge*. Love the mentioning of the much more expensive Eon cable--there was little reason to invest in one of those to begin with, but this new Rad2X cable now makes it 100% redundant.
@@SDMasterYoda In general, yes, S-Video is considerably better than composite. However, given the Nintendo 64's filtered/soft look across the majority of its library, the difference isn't as drastic as it may be with other consoles. Of course, if someone wants to drop the $150 on the Eon device, they are by all means free to spring for it. I don't think they will be getting an extra $100 in value over the Rad2X, but it's their money to throw away if they want.
Hm, the 480i captures do not look that good. I am aware of the problems with interlacing and there is probably no perfect solution. But I think in interlaced modes it would actually make sense to collect both fields and output them as one 480p image. Even though this would result in lag.
Yeah, but that would make the cable more expensive. I agree though, I hate how 480i looks on a flat-screen. It's only an issue with PS2 though, as most other consoles will be primarily 240p.
Good thing influencers will keep shilling EON and Pound garbage. Hope those cables will make it big. Not switching from my (RGC) RGB-SCART cables + OSSC anytime soon but that multi-out cable is mighty tempting! Maybe as a present?
I would tell people considering the retrotink2x to save up for an OSSC since they care enough to spend some real money. At this price that changes! This looks like an actual middle ground.
FOR PS1... How would this compare to the image quality of a HDRetrovision genesis cable with Playstation adapter + Retrotink2x? Does this hdmi solution make my setup redundant? If it's the same exact quality i'd love to switch over to this.
@@Inv8erZlM I've never tried composite, but I get it on S-Video (Sega Saturn, at the time) and Component ( just yesterday, I was trying to use it again, HDRetrovision Genesis cable with a Neo Geo adapter). It's a faint diagonal noise only really visible under certain colors. I've also tried multiple power adapters to see if that was the issue. I bought my Tink in January, 2019.
I'm a nerd for this stuff, so I also have a Framemeister and OSSC (multiple setups) and they don't have this issue, even with barrel to USB connectors with the same power supply.
I thought I was seeing double at 4:22. You have the exact same model TV I got for christmas. Same screen saver and the menu is identical. It's an LG right? Does it suffer from the same auto dimming issue a lot of newer TV's do when images on screen are dark or brighter causing the tv to try to auto adjust the backlight? Drives me up the wall, wish I could figure out a way to tell it to stop. Energy saver does nothing.
I'm very excited about these cables. I enjoy playing my retro systems on my flat screen but I always ended up having a jumble of cables with a converter jammed in between. This is a straight forward easy plug and play solution, that is totally worth the $50.
Hi! I have psx model scph-1002. I am trying to find solution how i can get colors on ntsc games. I only have hd-monitor and tv so the rgb scart cable isn't the solution. Should ra2x zero-lag cable to be answer? Or should i buy some high end rgb scart to hdmi converter?
So I don’t know if it is just me but when I look at my SNES with the Rad 2x it has some like wavy lines on top of the image that give it like the device is unshielded. I know it’s the Rad 2x and not my system because when I use my OSSC, It doesn’t have the wavy lines but it does on Rad 2x. Is there a way to fix the wavy lines or is it just a malfunction I can’t repair
I'd seen these cables before but didn't know anything about them. They look like a fantastic solution at a totally decent price. Also, has anyone noticed how his video and audio are not perfectly synced up? Every time he's on screen the audio is off and it drives me crazy, but the info is so helpful, I'm gonna keep watching. Hopefully he can figure that out. :)
It's so weird - Some people say it's perfect and others have trouble with the video sync. The file on my hard drive is perfect. I wonder what's happening...
So is the RGB->HDMI converter part of these cables essentially the same as the RetroTink? Does that mean you're essentially buying another RetroTink with each cable?
Yes and yes. So, if you've already bought a RetroTINK, this isn't for you...but if you're just getting into the scene and want an easy way to get started: Perfect.
@@RetroRGB Its less cables for me to swap out of my retrotink 2x tho if i have dedicated hdmi cables for both my snes and genesis. I can just leave my n64 svideo cable in my retrotink2x and forget about it.
You convinced me, but which one for the genesis 1 do I get. The one with the headphone plug or with out it?? Dont want to order the wrong one when they come back in stock
My favorite choice is to get the Genesis 2 version, then get an adapter for Genesis 1 support. If you're looking to save cash though, just get the Genesis 1 version. There's lots more info here: ua-cam.com/video/6nZ5yeoUqTc/v-deo.html
They'll claim their S-Video is "far superior". Then I'll post a video of the final SNES RAD2x prototype, side-by-side with the Super 64 showing (on N64) it isn't. Then they'll pretend that video didn't happen and carry on.
Their marketing budget will keep them in the public eye unfortunately. That and they can still claim its superior because of the s-video support. Now if you're a PAL n64 user there is absolutely no reason to own that version of the the eon super 64 considering the best itll do is composite. These Rad2x cables will default to composite when it doesnt detect an rgb signal and itll be $100 less than Eon's adapter. Not to mention itll be compatible with all other nintendo consoles that use the mutlitout connector.
While this product looks pretty good (though it really should have 480p support so you don't have to switch PS2 cables), I'm so glad I have 5 large CRTs (2 max out at S-video and 3 support component) so I never need to deal with modern TV issues. HD Retrovision component cables and I'm set! Plus the awesome bonus to play plenty of great light gun shooters!
One question : this RAD2x or an xrgb framheister ?? One of my friend has a Japanese Saturn. Right now he is playing with composite cables (yuk....). He is playing with a flat screen HD ... Buying a Scart cable is possible but not without modifying the Saturn, internal... Do you get the same picture quality with a RAD2x , compare to a SCART solution + xrgb mini ? Do you also suffer from the long "black screen", with the RAD2X, when the scaler tries to "follow" the changing of resolution of the console ?
RetroRGB thanks for getting back to me! I look forward to seeing those comparisons! Also wanted to say your site and video are a great source of complete and accurate information!
I currently have a Samsung TU7000 43 inch TV.. and I have a setup from amazon running my PlayStation 2 to it right now. It works fine, and does the job, but whenever I try to play a PlayStation 1 game on the PlayStation 2, the screen just goes black and does not display anything. Any idea as to why? I've already looked into my TV's settings and changed the game modes and everything. Would the Sony PlayStation 1/2 RAD2X RetroTink HDMI Cable work for my scenario and allow me to play a PlayStation 1 game on my PlayStation 2 on the Samsung TU7000 43 inch?
The RAD2x would fix the problem, yes. A better choice would be a GBS-C or RetroTINK 5x (or higher). Please see this video for why, as well as an explanation as to what's happening with your TV: ua-cam.com/video/TdfFnR-hOK8/v-deo.html
Will I be able to use a RAD2X to output 480p RGB from a Japanese Master System (MK-2000)?? I reached out to RGC several days ago and haven't gotten a response yet. You mentioned that these cable work with consoles around the world but I wanted to double check. Thank you for your contributions to the retro gaming community. Happy New Year!
I don't think so, as the MK-2000 has a completely different output circuit than all other Master System consoles. It won't hurt to try though, as the signal (voltage) might be too weak, not too strong.
RetroRGB I appreciate the response, brother. I agree I figured the different output may be a hinderance. I know the Nintendo multi-out has the “auto-detect” but I was curious if the others “search” for the RGB signal as well. It’s all good though, I just picked up a North American Master System to be sure my console would work with the new cable. I can’t wait to see the SMS in RGB. My Genesis already looks amazing (as you know)! Thanks again man and I look forward to more of your videos. Take care!
About preferring RGB and supporting all multi-AV out Nintendo consoles: When you try to link a SNES and a Gamecube with the same SCART cable to your TV you will see that one console wont work flawlessly. There is a capacitor issue: The SNES already includes the capacitors in the console, while the Gamecube expects them to be inside of the cable. Therefore using a SCART-RGB-Gamecube cable with the SNES creates a dark picture. Can the RAD2x compensate for this?
Is there a reason the composite n64 video capture look so bad in the video?

I guess I should look into buying a rad2x for my genesis 3. I bought a pound cable (returning it) and my Tv didn't seem to want to process the signal correctly. Same with the hd retrovision equivelant component cable made my retro gaming cables for my model 1 genesis (which I sold last month). Both consoles looked like a worn VHS tape film with flickering and jittering.
Wow, boy am I glad I waited for something like this to finally come up.
One error is the rad2x for the saturn requires usb power for model1 but not model 2.
The Retro community needs to be ashamed about how low it sub count is on this channel.
Woah, that N64 composite capture is WAY off. Why is it so... red?
Emmett Turner yeah, it looks dark and oversaturated.
Still looks far more stable than PSX with all the texture warping. ;)
@@emmettturner9452 It's definitely not just that, since it's visible in at least the SNES and Genesis captures as well.
I will be ordering this as the last of my Hyperkin adapters has broken - hopefully an Amiga and also a PSP (Maybe too Atari and 8 bit Commodore too) version will come in the future! Keep up the great work :)
My two megadrive RAD2X on there way :) Tomcat Alley in all it's glory soon!
These look like they will be a great solution and the price is pretty reasonable! 👍
Thanks for your work over the years, Bob. Great video.
@@RetroRGB Ok, thanks!
You'll be amazed at the picture difference you never saw before
Emmett Turner what route would you go?
10:47 It looks like this might have the same problem which I experienced with the XAgent cables I've recently tested. The video is VERY dark. Crushing blacks and no way to adjust it through the display without getting a washed out looking contrast.
Bob claims this to be prototype footage and not at all final. They were more conscerned with getting clean rgb footage and that the final product's composite footage should look identical to properly shielded composite cables.
Bob is the man!! This RDA2x has a de-interlacing feature named after the man himself!! 09:27
If it doesnt detect an rgb signal it defaults to composite
@@ians_parks Thanks for the valuable insight. I take it does work sending a 480p signal to a monitor when connected to a french NES Multi Out connector albeit in composite format (which is what any unmodified Nes outputs through the cable anyway) ?
Is there any reason to get these if I already have a retrotink 2x?
Probably not.
@@bluecollargamer7071 If you want to simplify your cable management for a single console. Like im constantly swapping out my snes and n64 with the retrotink2x. If i got one of these for my snes then i can just leave my n64 svideo cable in my retrotink2x and just forget about it.
@@ians_parks You could always get an svideo switch which would also solve your problem.
The tink 2x doesn't take RGB right? This will pull RGB from a stock SNES and Genesis.
@@jamon1567 the retrotink2x accepts comp, svideo, and component. Hd retrovision makes component cables for snes and genesis that essentially convert the raw rgb signal to YPbPr so that they can be used with the retrotink2x and any monitor that has component inputs.
Nice touch using the rad racer attract screen for the rad2x review :)
LOL, I wasted so much time making that! Worth it :)

I'm probably going to get the PS1 version because of that 240p to 480i switching. Wish I could get it now because I want to play Silent Hill this October but looks like I'm going to play it on my PS3 which sucks.
Oh shit at that mic drop. This is such a cool product.
It's worth pointing out that in europe we almost always have component and RGB over scart inputs on modern TV's. This doesn't mean you don't have to consider lag but it does mean you don't necessarily have to tit about with hdmi converters.
In for the saturn version
Could you do a side-by-side of the ultraHDMI and RGBmodded N64 with etim's RGB mod+rad2x? I'm at a stand still at what to mod into my n64

The N64 composite looks very dark and overly saturated, way more than on a CRT.
Johan Jernqvist I thought the same...
Bob claims this not to be final. Its simply protoype footage and they were more concerned with the rgb footage than composite at the time. The final product should look identical to a properly shielded composite cable.

32x yes, saturn no

Please tell me there's one in the works for Dreamcast. Kaico doesn't work properly with my TV. IDK if it'd work given that the DC outputs in RGB.
Awesome Video Bob!! WATCH OUT THOUGH! I best stupid EON is going to just copy these and just reshell them, then up the price to $150 like they do with every product they sell. Mike Chi REALLY has to pursue legal action against stupid EON.

Eon: *its free real estate* 😏
WOAH
So, will this resolve the fact that I can't get my SNES to display audio or video to my Samsung 1080p TV using RF or AV Composite cables? I'm pulling my hair out after I've cleaned my console, soldered a new fuse, and still can't get my console to work on my flat screen TV. I'm not interested in paying $1K for a Framemeister or buying an old CRT tube TV.
Yeah, this or the RetroTINK products should be perfect.

@@RetroRGB lol
@@RetroRGB Nothing. I just would like their (additional) take on it.
And you don't think it's rude to comment on a video I just spent weeks on that you'd like to see another? UA-cam comments baffle me.
@Gameplay and Talk - Yes, exactly.
Is there a reason S-Video had to be left out?
Whats with the random black dot artifacts in the video captures?
Happy to see a solution for the masses.. that isn't crap! I'ma keep chasin the perfect signalz ':-]
@@RetroRGB Guess we gotta hold out for the PS2HDMI mods.

They're definitely making more. It's just taking longer than usual because of everything going on.

"just designed to take your money"
EON btfo lmao
FOR PS1... How would this compare to the image quality of a HDRetrovision genesis cable with Playstation adapter + Retrotink2x?
Does this hdmi solution make my setup redundant? If it's the same exact quality i'd love to switch over to this.
The quality would be identical to your current setup. Switching to this means less cables...but I'd hold onto the HD Retrovisions for use on CRT's.
@@RetroRGB Awesome! Thanks! Also, as another user has asked....Could I use hd retrovision's saturn, PS1, neo geo adapter on the rad2x genesis cable?

Looks good, but how many u have from dis cable? 4 or 6? So many peoples like... i need only for ps1 not a big adapter for 200$.
How can they even sell the Eon after this?

Do you also suffer from the long "black screen", with the RAD2X, when the scaler tries to "follow" the changing of resolution of the console ?
The image for the smoothed RGB N64 is that with Tim Worthingtons board and the de-blur on coupled with the smoothed button the the rad2x?

Take care!
About preferring RGB and supporting all multi-AV out Nintendo consoles:
When you try to link a SNES and a Gamecube with the same SCART cable to your TV you will see that one console wont work flawlessly. There is a capacitor issue: The SNES already includes the capacitors in the console, while the Gamecube expects them to be inside of the cable. Therefore using a SCART-RGB-Gamecube cable with the SNES creates a dark picture.
Can the RAD2x compensate for this?
yes
Yes and so does RGC's universal SNES RGB cable.
