I've got xstation and mem card pro. I prefer my small crt. Hate look of old games on lcd. As long as my crt is alive I won't change to flat panel. hopefully in the future there will be external devices that can emulate crt look on flat panel.

    • @SirReptitious

How is the compatibility with this mod? I've seen videos that replace the CD-ROM with a SD card reader and MCBoot memory card, but apparently there are a lot of games that won't work. Really defeats the purpose of a mod if it takes a lot of money and time and ends up not playing a large chunk of the library.....

    • @hopperhelp1
      @hopperhelp1 2 роки тому +1

@@SirReptitious the xstation accepts just about every ps1 game out there. The PSIO had a lot of games that couldn’t be accepted. The only exception I can think of is an NTSC not being able to accept PAL exclusive games, but that’s more of a color thing. The PS1 digital bypasses that. (At least this is what I’ve been told but have yet to test). The Memcard pro and xstation have firmware to work with each other seamlessly.

I love almost all JRPGs, but something about Vagrant Story is so special!
I lived in AK and flew to HI a lot when my dad as in the military at the height of the PSX. Due to that, I have a bunch of Japanese games, mostly RPGs for the Dreamcast and the PSX. As I got older and had jobs during the PS2 era, I bought dozens of ps1 and ps2 rpgs.
I really want to do mods like this so I can play them in HD and then preserve my collection. But it seems a bit harder than the GBC, GBA, and Gamecube ones Ive tried so far =/

As a massive PS2 fan, I'm super jealous of the love the PS1 has gotten from the hardware modders. I'm really hoping to see a PS2 digital, and more importantly a proper ODE soon. While the FreeMCboot softmods are nice to have, they aren't the same as a real ODE. PS1 games don't run super well on the PS2 via Popstarter either. :/

Not only a challenging mod overall, but unfortunately also quite a costly one at that. Considering you can play your PS1 games on a phat PS3 this is a bit more niche. It is truly a mod for the die hard PS1 fan. And that's OK. Given the demand for the Xstation and PS1Digital kits... there are clearly plenty of diehard PS1 fans out there!
Emulation is fine, in whichever route you want to go. Be it a PC, PS1 on PS3, playing them on PSP, using the playstation classic edition... there are no "wrong" ways to enjoy the PS1 games you like / love.
This is a top tier, expensive solution for those who really love the PS1 and it's library. There is something to be said for seeing that original PS1 sitting there, the one you opened up on Christmas all those years ago... the one you first popped FF7 into. Playing with the original controllers. It's 100% authentic gameplay / support.... it's not for everyone. But for the big fans of the system, who have big enough wallets... it's a great setup!

But please use a fiberglass pen for removing solder mask. its much safer to use, and I wouldn't recommend cutting caps of a motherboard. If a cap has vented and leaked. Corrosion has happened on the motherboard and you may end up ripping a trace, Safer to use a hot air station to remove them. Other than that. Some really good work.

Thank you Darenn! That’s true, the psio has the advantage of being able to play original cd games.

It could be how the system was stored. If it was in a warm humid environment it could have contributed to it leaking. I think under normal circumstances it they should typically be okay.

Nice mod and the explanation was super clear on the video. Looks like a difficult mod so I went a different route on my mod. I bought a PSX launch model and swapped out the motherboard with raspberry pi 4 running Lakka. I 3D printed some USB holders for the front. Also printed some holders for hdmi and network cables for the back. I am impressed with the performance of the emulation on a pi 4. Only some simple soldering was required on the PSU board to connect to gpio for reset and power buttons to be functional.

I'm loving my PS1Digital + PSIO + Memcard Pro. I can confirm most of the hate the PSIO gets is unwarranted and it's amazing to be able to play my physical discs whenever I want. Soon it's getting integration with Memcard Pro as well. Xstation is the new cool ODE but PSIO doesn't get enough love for retaining the original disc drive. I also recommend the Brooks PS2 to PS4 adapter to have a nice wireless controller experience.

Me too! Can’t wait to get my memcardpro! I do like that feature of the psio which allows for original games to be play physically.

Alright I’ll give you a comment to read. I really want this but I just have to wait for more ps1digitals to become available, so I can pay someone off of EBay for it (Someone who knows what they are doing). This is what I did for my n64digital and it’s awesome. Following your video however I was able to install the solderless gcloader into my GameCube along with a laser bear sd card mount myself. The retro gaming hobby has never been so fun 😊

@@MachoNachoProductions That's awesome because the physical copies are increasing in price recently. It's definitely a game you should finish sometime, but I get that it's fairly long and it's hard to find time to play longer RPG games these days. Great job on the mods! You should move onto the OG Xbox next. There are so many great modifications (hardware and software) you can do to them.
