Yeah he's being tailed by a thalmor spy who has attached himself to a khajiit caravan and you have to kill the spy and let him live the rest of his days in morrowind. It's all very poetic
I actually saved Malborn, saved him in the embassy then escorted him all the way to Windhelm where he took refuge as a Thalmor assassin (a kitty cat to nobody's surprise) waited for him at the docks. After dispatching the Cat I escorted Malborn as he fled to Morrowind. Thanks Malborn for your sacrifice, may you find your peaceful life. (Also, I gave him 500 gold for his troubles cuz y'know. Pickpocketting works both ways.)
The most I do is just kill the soldiers that come in with him and protect him from the troll. Does Tsavari or whatever her name is come to kill Malborn in windhelm?
Malborn gathered intelligence about the party and was useful in this one embassy operation, but that was enough. As long as he survived, and you got the book you were looking for, rescued the other prisoner, and killed a few Thalmor along the way, I'd definitely say it was a successful operation. I'd argue that Malborn was actually a successful hero.
To be fair, not all heroes are meant to cut a bloody swathe across "evil". Some are heroes exactly because they withheld information even when threatened with death. Or because they snuck things across enemy line to facilitate the success of the hero who's going to cut that swathe.
Your little stories about different things in Skyrim give the game so much more life. In my honest opinion, you should be the lead story director at Bethesda for ES6!
I managed to keep Malborn alive and he even got a girl... the waitress whom I got abused by Erikur :D When I met them in Windhelm, it was really cool. He didn't really fail in my book, quite the opposite. :D
I almost felt bad about killing Morvarth, especially since the book "Immortal Blood" in Oblivion led me to believe that he had died at the end. Nope, turns out he was given a fate worse than death--undeath. And he was planning to enslave Morthal's people using one turned tavern wench. Arkay demanded retribution for the deaths of Helgi and her mother, and I carried it out.
I played a kaljit on my very first game. It hasn't occured to me until now ( watching that kaljit jumping ) how hard it must have been for me to change my armour when I have to push my tail through a very small hole in my pants.
That Habd story was told in painstaking detail. My jaw was on the ground. Bethesda does a really good job of displaying that other people, NPCs they may be, live lives of their own and have their own stories. You do a great job of interpreting these.
When the Markarth guards tried to arrest me I killed them, I then killed the next 3 that entered, and all the guards outside, and the guards in the guard tower, and the guards in the keep. It was only then that I realized I was meant to go to the silver mine with them. But it was too late, a mountain of corpses left in the city, I ran, joined the Imperials and fought to forget the bloodshed of the innocents, but everywhere I went was only more I had to fight. At last all where dead, and then I knew... I didn't kill Miraak, so I left skyrim as a smoking mess of death and continued. I was the dragon born. I was the end.
With my second Skyrim character, I had her go werewolf on the guards, and subsequently went on a rampage in one giant circuit of Skyrim. She ate so many generic bandits (etc.) her transformation lasted _one full week_ before she changed back.
In order to save Malborn, I "pickpocketed" him and planted a hunting bow and daedric arrow on him so he could actually defend himself when everyone started fighting
Honorable Mention: The Barrels of Solsthiem. While traveling across the ashy island, towards the peak of some mountains, you'll come across some barrels. They've been there for decades, centuries, maybe. Long ago, a village was attacked by little blue goblins called Rieklings, they plundered, pillaged, and slaughtered. A small group of heroes were chosen to stop the attack, and a powerful Altmer mage transformed their physical forms into magical barriers in the shape of Barrels. The Rieklings were pushed back, and ultimately forced into the great barrels, where they would be sealed for all eternity. Sadly, however, upon approaching these powerful barriers, they sense the souls of all the dragons you have consumed, and they reach out to try and contain those too! This leaves them wide open and vulnerable, thus allowing the Rieklings to escape. Luckily, you were there to stop them from causing mayhem on any other villages. But, the greed of the mighty Barrels was ultimately their downfall, as upon escaping, the Rieklings shattered them to pieces.
The lighthouse mission left me really sad and depressed when I first finished it. I had to stop the game for a while and didn't play again til the next day. It's still the saddest encounter in the game for me. I wanted at least one survivor...

I think my favorite failed hero is the Agent of Stendar that stayed and fought the vampires at their former base until it was overrun. He’s my favorite because even though he died against the vampires, he managed to take quite a few down with him and one of the vampires complemented him.
you’re very good at storytelling
how tf a Graenolf video made me like legit sad for a minute there like I was ready to cry for a minute there
I am quite new to your channel and have watched quite a few videos now, and man, I love your channel XD
