    In our latest Skyrim video we discuss the eventual and somewhat inevitable fall of the Imperial Empire that would take place after the events of Skyrim.
    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
    The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

    Just to throw it out there, regarding any "The emperor's death will rally the empire against the Thalmor" arguments. People are aware that it was the Dark Brotherhood that committed the assassination; shown through the guard dialogue.
    "You hear the news? The Emperor has been murdered! Right here, in Skyrim. By the gods, if the Dark Brotherhood can do that, nobody's safe..." and "By the gods. The Emperor's been murdered. On his own ship... moored in the inlet. It was... the Dark Brotherhood. There was nothing we could do..."

      His death may lead to the rise of another lead that will rally against the Thalmor, since Titus Mede II was quite unpopular. That's also part of why he's been assassinated. But like most of this video its mostly speculation, to many unknow variables.

    Solution: The Dragonborn takes the throne, becoming the first Dragon Emperor since Tiber Septim, reinvigorating the worship of Talos, many seeing the Dragonborn as a reincarnation of Talos come to save the Empire. Empire gets its stable government, Nords get their tradition. Even the Thalmor would hesitate to mess with a guy that slapped the World Eater.

Pretty sure hamnerfell blames the entirety of the empire not just the emperor, if anything they'd do what Ulfric was planning on doing and simply enter an alliance with the empire and not outright join them. Ulfric chose to spare his men and be captured, and he says himself that he doesn't really like to use the thu'um in battle. They didn't just agree with Valenwood they pretty much conquered it threw the empire out and killed all the wood elves who would not accept Thalmor rule. Then they lie to the Khajiit by claiming they had returned the Moons following the Void Nights. My hope is the Khajiits learn the truth, and the rest of Valenwood wakes up and rebels from the inside. After all, when there are troubles they're focused on protecting their own asses and not other provinces ( for example during Oblivion Crisis). I simply think that Dominion will also lose influence. As i've said Khajits arent fond of Altmers and i doubt that Bosmers would endure their rule long, you know, those purges and stuff. It can finally piss them off and provoke a rebellion. Most likely during or just after 2nd Great War which im not totally sure Thalmor will win.
      Also i dont believe that Dragonborn would become an Emperor. According to Elder Scroll prophecy he is the LAST Dragonborn. Technically he shouldnt be able to start a bloodline of next rulers ( hes sterile or what? ).

      @@B463L However, not all of them are Nords, so fighting for the Stormcloaks would be forcing Bretons and a Dark Elf to fight against their empire that fixed their provinces time after time again. Think about it, with Daggerfall and Uriel forcing the Nerevarine prophecy, there's no reason for those provinces to fuck the empire over more than its already been by the Thalmor. Stormcloaks exist solely to aid the Thalmor anyway. To help them would be to weaken the empire, meaning the Thalmor can win the next war after the peace treaty gets voided. Elder Scrolls 6 has to create a dragon break to fix wether or not the Stormcloaks win or lose, because taking over Skyrim then losing it would be a very anticlimactic end, and would be troublesome to plot into the next game's lore when the Empire win, if they aren't fighting the next war during 6 (Peace treaty is a buffer to recuperate on the Thalmor's end and gather intel to slap them and avoid the White Gold Tower issue again). 1) Ulfric being an uncooperative Thalmor asset doesn’t mean he’s a Thalmor puppet. During the Soviet-Afghan war, the Taliban were American “assets.” How’d that work out for us?
    2) Tullius says at some point that Cyrodiil thinks of the Skyrim civil war as a sideshow. The Legion in Skyrim is just one of many Imperial Legions, most of which are on the border with the Aldmeri Dominion. If the Stormcloaks defeat the Legion in Skyrim, the Empire can just send more.
    3) The Emperor was calm in the face of death. Motierre thinks the Emperor’s death will strengthen the Empire and save Tamriel. Titus Mede II is an old man. Even if he doesn’t have any heirs, it’s hard to believe he doesn’t have arrangements for what happens after he dies.
    Just some things to consider.

      BeefyLevinson 1 - technically the US supported the muhjadeen. Taliban are a splinter faction that later rose to power, but I agree with your sentiment. 2 - I would point out that America gained its independence because fighting an insurrection is a costly endeavor. The Empire cannot afford to keep sending legions, but sure it’s possible they might. 3 - intriguing, makes sense, especially since he is so willing to die.

      1) Pretty much.
      2) Ulfric plans on negotiating with the empire if he wins, which I feel the empire would be inclined to accept his request, not, it's either skyrim is weak or the border with the dominion is weak.
      3) He's sure taking a gamble and he doesn't have the best track record on his gambles to begin with. Maybe the person who replaces him is better, maybe they aren't. Fact of the matter is moral is going to take quite the hit. Devastating war, loss of territory, loss of god, and then finally loss of leadership.

    • @TheTdroid
      @TheTdroid 4 роки тому +10

      2) While the Empire definitely have a significant advantage in military power in the short term (long term is impossible to predict, with current info), it's hard to say if they could "just send more". The Empire also have the border in Cyrodiil to consider, which is the reason Tullius gives if asked during the Season Unending quest why he doesn't receive reinforcements. The generic Legates will also tell you the Legion is stretched thin and dependent on local recruits to combat the Stormcloaks. Maybe I'm crazy, but if they had any troops to spare, it seems to me that sending them in to win a swift and decisive victory while you have both a significant foothold and political legitimacy in Skyrim would be a much better solution than waiting until you have no foothold, little to no political legitimacy and the Emperor's "go to" General for solving problems is dead.
      3) Titus Mede II seemed to have accepted his fate, yes. And, given his age, there is likely some sort of succession planned. The problems come with the fact that we have someone on the Elder Council assassinating the Emperor because of his policies. It might turn out for the better, but it is rarely a good sign when the Emperor's own nobility kills them off.
      Motierre says we served the Empire by killing Titus Mede II and he might be right. Then we have to consider what we actually know about Motierre and the rest of the Elder Council, not to mention the Imperial family. Which is next to nothing. We don't know the allegiances Motierre has, we don't know who will succeed Titus Mede II and we don't know if, assuming Motierre is sincere about his motives, he actually has the political support to get it done. Even if Motierre and his plans would have benefited the Empire, which I am perfectly happy to grant for the sake of the argument, we don't have any assurance against a Cyrodilic civil war breaking out. Given that there are nobles like Erikur and Elisif that take a positive view of the Thalmor in Skyrim, it's a real danger that there are those in Cyrodiil too, ready to fuck up Motierre's plans.
      Personally, I don't think it either the Stormcloaks or the Empire are in any way good choices; they're highly flawed choices with their own set of wild cards that can completely screw everything up. The only thing we can know for certain is that the Thalmor doesn't want either of them to win the Skyrim civil war, so pick your vial and hope it isn't poison.

    The Aldmeri Dominion is not as strong as it likes to pretend that it is.
    The Empire won the final battle of the Great War and annihilated the forces of the elves inside the Imperial City. They hung the body of the elf general from the White Gold Tower.
    The best most experienced, well lead, and well equipped troops of the Thalmor had been crushed by Imperial and Nordic legions.
    In Hammerfell the Thalmor were being pushed back by the Redguards. Even when the Thalmor attempted to annex Hammerfell after the war they failed and the Redguards maintained their independence defeating the militarily weakened Aldmeri Dominion.
    The elves live a long time, but their population doesn't seem to be that much higher than the population of humans. This would lead me to believe that their birth rate is quite low. Therefore their military manpower is limited. Adding to this that we never see any Wood Elf or Khajit Aldmeri soldiers. This means that the Aldmeri Dominion composes it's military entirely of High Elves meaning that they are not using at least 2/3's of the available manpower in their realm. This is probably because they do not trust those populations and are oppressing and exploiting them.
    Losing their elite troops in the Imperial City was a serious blow that the Thalmor won't recover from for several hundred years because they insist on using only High Elves for their military. They may be able to exert more political control and pressure over a weakened Empire, but if the Empire wins in Skyrim then the elves simply do not have the numbers of troops to launch another invasion. Especially considering again the fact that they couldn't even take an isolated Hammerfell.
    Even with a greater intelligence capability than the Empire all those spies mean nothing if you can't take advantage of the information with military force. The Aldmeri Dominion puts on a fine show, but they are simply too weak to risk another war with the Empire any time soon. Which is exactly why they want the war in Skyrim to continue.
    If the war in Skyrim ends in an Imperial victory the Empire will likely recover. The population and economy will rebound, and the relatively short lived humans will achieve political stability before the Aldmeri have enough population to field another significant invasion force.
    If the war in Skyrim ends in a Stormcloak victory High Rock will break away from the Empire too. With only Cyrodil remaining the Aldmeri still can't invade because they are too weak. This is why they don't want the Stormcloaks to win, because if they do win and the elves don't invade Cyrodil it will expose the internal weakness and instability of the Aldmeri Dominion. Not invading after the Stormcloaks win would be like admitting that the Aldmeri Dominion is a paper tiger leading to uncontrollable unrest and rebellion in Valenwood and Elsweyr as the populations realize that the Thalmor are not as strong as they pretend to be.
    However, if the Aldmeri Dominion does invade and loses too many troops which is a significant possibility. Then, even if they do win they won't have enough remaining military strength to continue suppressing local unrest in Valenwood and Elsweyr never-mind the newly annexed Cyrodil which would still be rife with unrest.
    To be honest, the fact that the Emperor signed the White Gold Concordat after winning the biggest battle of the war and retaking the Imperial City simply boggles the mind. However, it seems pretty clear that the civil war in Skyrim was engineered not simply to drain the resources of the Empire but to distract public attention from the weakened state of the Thalmor's military forces.
    This is why the Thalmor are so aggressive and operate so freely within the Empire's borders. They need to keep up the illusion that they are strong in order to maintain their power. It's classic Sun Tzu: - All warfare is based on deception. When you are strong appear as though weak. When you are weak appear as though strong. When you are near make it seem as though you are far away. When you are far away feign that you are nearby.

He won and could have restored true peace but instead did the dumbest thing imaginable to the point where i'm surprised that the Empire even has provinces still loyal purely based on how outraged and pissed off everyone should be at his blunder. It's weird that every province didn't react like Hammerfell and succeed out of spite.

    The first issue off the bat is that the Dragon Born is given an option ( And a rather big one ) to disclose the location of The Dark Brotherhood to Imperial authorities, with the end result being the invasion and securing of the Sanctuary by Imperial soldiers.
    There was never a choice as big as this in previous Elder Scroll games. This option makes the inevitability of the Emperor's assassination a bit hazy, which means it's not clear whether the assassination will result in being Canon.
    The second issue is that depending on the circumstances, "Season Unending" is not even a playable quest in the Game & the peace treaty never happens.
    If it's not an *Essential* Main Quest than it's unjust to say it's Canon.
    With that being said, I still think you're correct. The Empire's pillars that hold it up, it's ideologies, culture & unity is being systematically targeted by the Aldmeri Dominion under the guide of the Thalmor. Banning Talos worship would invoke unrest amongst the proud Nord's of Skyrim, resulting in a Civil War that the Thalmor hoped would result in a waste of resources & mass death.
    What they would not expect is a Dragon Born to rise up & possibly side with either the Empire OR the Stormcloak Rebellion, having Dragon Blood would also make that Dragon Born a rightful heir to the Throne that is the White Gold Tower.
    I think it's quite possible that a new Empire will be founded in a similar way the first was.
    Also Geo-Politically speaking the Almderi Dominion actually are not in a good position to win over Tamriel.
    Black marsh have essentially taken over and enslaved Morrowind & Vvardenfell, also Black Marsh is impossible to invade because of the Hist Tree atmosphere.
    The Stormcloak Rebellion would 100% side with the Redguards of Hammerfell, because of their positioning they could successfully invade and free High Rock of Imperial control together.
    Leaving Elsweyr, Valenwood & Cyrodiil on the table.
    We know from the Lore that the Woodelves of Valen Wood historically despised the Aldmeri Dominion, because outsiders had no respect for the plants & trees of Valenwood.
    It's safe to assume a conflict is possible between the Woodelves & the Khajiit with assistance from Black Marsh.
    The Key question here is what side are the Argonians on? From their Enslaving of the Dark Elves I can't imagine their fond of Mir, but their also no fan of The Empire.
    Regardless, all this build up is definitely going to result in a truly amazing Elder Scrolls VI.
    Great video, I hope this was food for thought! Please don't hesitate in discussing anything I've said, I love having intelligible debates on topics I enjoy! :)

    Titus Mede either arranged his own assassination through his most trusted council member or was at least aware of his own assassination and prepared the empire beforehand, enough so that he was confident the empire would be put in capable hands after his demise. There is little other way I can interpret his behavior when confronted with his eminent demise.
    The favor asked to kill the person who contracted out the assassination was either to cover his own tracks and protect his secret or to protect the new emperor from a future conspiracy, dealing with that last loose end before his death.
    The Empire is probably screwed, but Mede was not a liked emperor and his death on the whole isn't the blow against the Empire it at first appears to be...

      I'm pretty sure Titus Mede II set up the fall of hte "Third Empire" but set things in motion for the rise of a resurgent Fourth Empire. He knows he done fucked up and can't be the hero to rally hte empire after signing the WGC. So he bides his time, tops off hte Legions, gets his affairs in order, and let's himself die. He has likely groomed a successor in secret, or has a good idea who would rise to take his place.
      They will purge the remaining corruption, command the Legions, and kick the Thalmor's teeth in. A new Empire with a new dynasty will be born to reunify the continent. First it was Alessia, then it was Camoran, and lastly Talos himself. I believe Titus Mede II has setup a fourth such hero to rise and return the Empire to glory once again.
      The Empire is stronger than they appear and hte Thalmor are much weaker than they let on. Why else would they insist on such a drawn out civil war in Skyrim? Wouldn't they just prop up Ulfric to physically cleave the Empire in two? High Rock and Cyrodiil would be isolated from each other and ripe for conquest. Titus Mede II doesn't seem like the kind of fearful sniveling coward that would sit back and let the Thalmor control him, and I doubt he let the above go unnoticed. \
      So he's likely biding his time to let his real plan come to fruition. He definitely seemed like a man with a plan that went willingly to his death. I doubt it's contact with the Akaviri, although the Second Empire was once ruled by them and the Empire/Blades in particular owe aesthetics and more to them. A secret deal with Hammerfell? I'm not fully convinced the split was as clean and dirty as it appears. By renouncing Hammerfell and leaving a legion of "invalids" behind, Titus Mede II both signed the WGC giving up Hammerfell to the Thalmor, yet kept them out of Thalmor hands all the same. The man is not stupid nor as powerless as he seems.
      But the TL:DR is that Titus Mede looks like he has a plan and isn't going quietly into the night. I feel he's set plans in motion to end the Thalmor and rebuild the Empire under another great leader. He just knew that leader couldn't be him after losing the Great War. THere is still hope!

      It would make sense that this could be how the DragonBorn's tale ends. What he/she does in side quests is unimportant compared to the mainquests, removing the need for any arguements about whether they are canon. The people of Cyrodil would be rejuvenated by the return of the dragonborn, perhaps believong it a sign that the gods favour them over the Aldemari. The Dominion is too weak to stand up to an actual rebellion(they couldn't take Hammerfell or finish the Empire), and a rebellion led by a dragonborn, along with the sirviving blades that would come out of hiding in the wake of the new emperor, would deal a lot of damage to the Dominion forces. The canon end to the civil war is that the Stormcloaks win due to the weakening of the Empire before the dragonborn becomes the emperor, so the Empire is basically reduced to peacefully coexisting with the other races, and the Thalmor are wrecked, and Skyrim wins! Go Nords!

      Back at the pre Tiber era we had
      1: An emperor assassinated.
      2: Literally every single province got separated, made alliances between each other, and used Cyrodill as their battleground in a three way all out conflict. With the Second Aldmeri Dominion (The Thalmor are the third) almost winning.
      3: A full scale Daedric invasion of Tamriel that, to top it all off, happened at the same time as the the all out war between the provinces of the continent. And the Daedra who invaded was Molag freaking Bal.

      Sign the Treaty with the Dominion, Talos can’t be officially worshipped for a few decades, recover strengt, and than kick the Elves in the Butt and get Revenge, and if the Empire declares War on the Dominion every Province that doesent belong to the Dominion except for Morrowind and Black Marsh would join the fight. and if the Dominion declared war on the Empire Hammerfall and Skyrim would come to help, because if not they would be next.
      sorry for the long text but I think these are the points why I think and hope the Empire will recover

    One thing I'll have to point out is that one quest line you can do destroys the dark brotherhood and prevents the assassination of the Emperor, and both can't be canon unless there's a dragonbreak. I wonder if killing Partysnax is canon or not, because that would have a huge impact, as if he isn't dead, he starts teaching dragons how to be more peaceful and they could be teamed up with to help fight the Thalmor

    • @wawrzyniecmalinowski9217
      @wawrzyniecmalinowski9217 Рік тому +6

      True, but one would argue that Dark Brotherhood gets destroyed in its own storyline, which means those things aren't mutually exclusive. Also, if you as a player decide to destroy DB, you actually don't kill all their members - Babette and Cicero (with The Night Mother) still live. Which means there is nothing stopping them to reborn at Dawnstar like in DB storyline. There could be a book in TES VI, where its written "Empire thought The Dark Brotherhood was completely destroyed, but they proved them wrong by killing emperor" and it still wouldn't contradict any of those choices

    What if The Dragonborn decides to claim the mantle of Emperor for his or herself just like Talos. Throughout the game it is implied that those who are Dragonborn have a desire for power. We already see this by the actions of Miraak and Talos. Also our Dragonborn is considered the most powerful ever due to his/her ability to control Dragons and mortals with the Bend Will shout and defeating Alduin and Miraak. So while there's infighting in the elder council the Dragonborn can just fly to the Imperial City on a Dragon and declare his or herself as ruler of the Empire. Most likely the Stormcloaks will bend the knee due to there respect of the Dragonborn and the imperials would have some disdain for the Dragonborn but that might be enough to present a reasonable case that the Dragonborn will become the Emperor.

    Best case scenario; the Dragonborn sides with the empire and wins the civil war in Skyrim for the imperial legion. The Dragonborn is seen as a hero (while Titus Mede the 2nd will still die). He / She proceeds to Cryodiil where they; as probably the sole reason the imperials won in Skyrim, is given the authority to work with the elder council to crown a new emperor (or perhaps to begin a new line of 'Dragonborn emperors'). when the emperor is crowned you secretly reform the blades; using Sky Haven temple as the headquarters with Esbern and Delphine as its new leaders. with preparations underway for a secret large-scale restoration you travel to Hammerfell, and attempt to negotiate an annexation plan, possibly informing the outraged leaders of Hammerfell that the blades are being reformed, and that you are meeting with imperial generals in secret to get them to begin training their troops for the second great war. Eventually travelling to each seceded province in attempt to bring them back into the fold. plus... dragons; if the Dragonborn becomes Emperor/Empress they could use their shouts during battle to do things such as call for dragons, and simply shout again to bring them to his side.

    • @ghostranger5890
      @ghostranger5890 6 років тому +6

      Technically no race is weak within Tamriel. the elves are amazing in magic (while weak physically), the Bretons are highly adept in magic while also not being as frail as the elves, redguard are probably some the best swordsmen in the world, khajiit are sneaky and are very agile, and the imperials share Nordic, Aldmeri, and Akiviri culture.
      *a new line of Dragonborn Emperors would probably be one of the best things for Tamriel as it would reinvigorate the people of the empire to know a man like Tiber Septim sits on the throne once again; the man who literally built the empire. the 'rouge' provinces would probably kneel once again to the rule of a true Dragonborn who does have the voice and who can technically control dragons.

      Actually, the Bretons _are_ somewhat fragile physically. Plus, note that the character is *The Last Dragonborn* and as such wouldn't create a line of succession in other Dragonborns since it wouldn't be possible to pass the Thu'um over to their children (Though come to think of it, would it be easier to use the Thu'um for those practicing?). If the Last Dragonborn _is_ truly immortal in age, they might stick around for a long time. If they aren't, the best they can do is have children (assuming they do get married and decide to have a family) and work up from there.
      The Last Dragonborn might be recognized for reawakening the Imperial Legion after they die _if_ their child(ren) happen to go up as the next heir and do a good job of getting it up on the horse again.

It was not enforced prior to it, because it was a strain on resources, however once Ulfric started to rebel, the Thalmor decided that they had to at least take a few citizens to spread fear in the populace of Skyrim. I highly doubt that they dare steal away people in Cyrodiil proper. Moreover, Talos is 'the' Imperial god, Nords of Skyrim prior to ESV were always for the Nordic Pantheon. lol

      @Skarekrow54 5 років тому +6

      I hate this idea that somehow the Mede dynasty is worse than the Septim dynasty. The only difference between the two is that the Septims had a giant robot and essentially no competition. The Mede dynasty has successfully fended off foreign invasion (managed to survive a surprise attack from the Dominion), is making progress in combating internal dissidents (at the start of Skyrim they've captured the leader of the Stormcloaks and the leader of the Forsworn,) and successfully pulled a tattered empire back together after it was invaded by essentially Hell, all with no giant mechs, no dragonborn emperors, and while surrounded on all sides by neighbors who can finally put up a fight. Considering that literally all they lost in this process was a single process and the worship of a god who was in reality not one person but instead three people wearing a trench coat to try and sneak into a movie theater, I'd say that the Mede Empire has the potential to go farther than the Septims ever could.
      Also, before you go looking back at the Septims with rose tinted glasses, really think about it. Pelagius the mad was a Septim. The wolf queen of solitude was a Septim. Uriel the Fifth was a Septim (he tried to invade Akavir). If the Empire died when it stopped having good rulers then the Empire died a long long time ago. If anything the Mede dynasty is its rebirth.

What he should have done was rallied his country into a war fervor and driven them straight back into valenwood, combined his legions, set into defensive positions and then trained more legions in preparation of invasion of valenwood, putting the Dominion in a bad spot. They either wait and then valenwood raises up before the Legion even gets to the heart, or they attack strong defensive positions with a numerically inferior army.

  • @Joshdriel

    I hate that people keep ignoring the Dragonborn as a serious contender for the throne of the Empire. With Mede dead, men will rally to the "New Talos", the Dragonslayer, the Dragon Ruler (with the power of Bend Will). Heck, although the Amulet of Kings is destroyed, people may think that the Dragonborn can relight the Dragonfires. This guy is such a big deal that, in the end, I would've preferred to help the Dragonborn, like with Martin Septim in ESIV, than to be the Dragonborn just so that this character could have a concrete backstory and not whichever one we want.
    If this one person can beat dragons, vanquish the World Eater and win a Civil War, he would be unstoppable with a real army behind him.

If it weren't for Kyne's intervention Paarthurnax may have not defected and betrayed Alduin, but even then he was instrumental in our journey for the Elder Scroll and the Dragonrend Shout, because similar to Kyne it was Paarthurnax's choice to aid us that compelled the greybeards to do the same. I always just use console commands and murder the blades, if I had the option I would just walk out on them and tell them to leave me the fuck alone. It makes sense. The Last Dragonborn is arguably an avatar of Shor, and shares many of the same qualities as Tiber Septim. It would be nice to find out in ES6 that the game we played before was only the beginning of the Dragonborn's legend that possibly allowed him or her to ascend to godhood the way that Talos did. Of course that would involve weighing in on the whether or not the altmer are correct about the cosmology of Nirn. The Aedra don't communicate with players the same way that the Daedra, so whether or not the creation myth is true is still up for debate. The Heart of Lorkhan could have just been a powerful dwemer artifact rather than the actual heart of the trickster God and creator of men.

      @Pinkerton000 6 років тому +5

      LordMunchkin is right. Dragonborn is the chosen of Akatosh. Also, we now have no reason to automatically associate the Dragonborn with the imperial throne because of (1) all of the non-dragonborn emperors there have been, (2) the existence of other non-emperor Dragonborn such as Miraak, and (3) the explicit implication in ES5 that the Dragonborn exists primarily as a defense against Alduin, which is now irrelevant.
      Also also, the player character couldn't become the emperor because that would require future games to acknowledge the name and race of the player character. Yes, they could take a special name when they assume the throne, but the race would have to be confirmed. The only way around this is if it happened during a dragon break so that it would be possible for nobody in Tamriel to have any memories of specifics about who he was or what happened. Unfortunately, there is no dragon break at this time, as the Numidium is nowhere to be seen.

    The empire WILL prevail, if only due to the fact that when the fighting starts, all Talos worship is back in action, thus, skyrim will probably aid if not rejoin the empire.
    And not to forget, the assassination, which he planned himself, because if he quit, the empire would appear weak, if he killed himself, the empire would appear weak, but he's assassinated, by the most dangerous assassins in tamriel, this shows the man was still dangerous, making way for a younger, more inspiring emperor, who will be ready for a war with the elves, unlike titus mede during the great war.
    With the imperial victory, general tullius says himself that they will move on the Thalmor.

    • @thomasjenkins7506
      @thomasjenkins7506 4 роки тому +5

      it should be "the thalmor will fail" because they can't possibly succeed. both the empire's army and the thalmor army were decimated by the great war. the thalmor then lost even more in hammerfell. this is significant because the thalmor can't raise an army anywhere near as fast the empire can. it's been 25 years since the great war, which is plenty of time of breeding and raising new soldiers for the empire. any altmer or bosmer born in the last 25 years aren't nearly old enough to fight in a war. with a new emperor, they can wipe the slate clean with skyrim and hammerfell. even if they don't, they should still have enough of an army to drive the thalmor out.
      on top of that, the WGC only stopped public talos worship. those who believe aren't going to stop privately just because the thalmor told them to. stamping out a religion is no where near that easy.

    • @bradleyrichardson7205
      @bradleyrichardson7205 4 роки тому +1

      Thomas Jenkins For a while after the WGC, people still did worship Talos in private, then the Thalmor started kidnapping people who did. At the time of Skyrim, a lot of people stopped worshipping Talos because they were scared for their lives.
      And with the assassination of the emperor in Skyrim, the empire’s future is uncertain. Never underestimate the Thalmor, as much as I hate them, I have to admit they are very powerful and really stand a chance against an empire in turmoil.

    • @UwU-xk5cx
      @UwU-xk5cx 4 роки тому

      The assassination wasn’t necessarily his plan, that’s just a camelworks THEORY, it could have perfectly been that the elder council grew corrupt and it got out of hands of the emperor which now very old and done with it decided for destiny to decide his faith knowing that someone would eventually kill him for power and he sees it as his final peace, after all he has lived a long life and the only thing he has left is to die, and he would ask to kill the contractor as his simple final “gift” to the empire, taking one of the corrupt elders with him, camelworks theory implies that he was both a mastermind and highly dedicated of his empire, and if you think about it if he was that the empire wouldn’t have had such a slow recovery with so many problems under his rule and most likely wouldn’t have had such a corrupt aristocracy that could make his plan of killing himself possible, to me he was just an old man who did what he could for his people but as many monarchs prioritized himself before his empire and now old he is sorry of that kind of life and just wanted to end it all before seeing worse to come to him and his empire
      And if the stormcloaks are victorious in Skyrim (which they most likely are because of a unique note in a fort that only appears if the stormcloaks win the civil war) the empires response is not to keep up with their plan against the thalmor, it’s to send 2 entire imperial cyrodillic legions to take Skyrim back (as stated in the note I talked about) which means that any aggressive plan of an offensive against the thalmor is gone for a long time, the Skyrim/Cyrodill relations are going to be broken for years to come and both regions are going to be worried for a thalmor invasion while fighting a war against each other, which probably would mean an end to both because the Stormcloaks would need most of their brave but untrained and poorly equipped troops to defend the imperial border who would have professionally trained proper imperial soldiers instead of the militant imperial forces they fought in the past, and containing a professional thalmor maritime invasion would require more of the same, and in the imperial side while they could probably reconquer Skyrim or defend cyrodill from the aldmeri dominion by their own, fighting in two fronts would probably overwhelm them specially considering that the war in Skyrim is an offensive war meaning that they would need to advance in order to prevent the nords from building a strong stationary defense in the border and in the south the problem would be very bad too because while having a professionally trained well prepared army unlike Skyrim they would also have a land border with the aldmeri dominion meaning that it wouldn’t just be defense against naval invasions but a full on war, and that would mean that they would also need to fight the armies of valenwood and the 2 khajiit kingdoms in elsweyrs that probably wouldn’t mobilize against Skyrim who is in the other side of the continent and while much more smaller than the imperial army, are still a big advantage for the elven armies of summerset

  • @TheNN
    @TheNN 6 років тому +56

    My biggest thing I really feel you kind of assumed here is that the Aldmeri Dominion is some kind of all-powerful, unstoppable force. They aren't. Oh they're a threat, certainly, but while they won the war it doesn't mean they are magically able to do anything they want still. They only got all the concessions they did because the Empire was beaten even worse than they were.
    Again, it doesn't mean that they'd be some almighty force. It's possible the Empire could fall, like, taking out the possibility of the any questlines mucking shit up more, let's just assume they do win and end the Mede Empire once and for all, and therefore they at long last put an elven ruler on the Ruby Throne...
    ...it doesn't mean still that they'd rule over all Tamriel. Or that they'd even be that much of a force after another war. They might rule, but they'd have such few numbers that they'd have a hard time fighting anyone else.
    So let's assume that they conquer Skyrim, Cyrodiil, High Rock, and the areas they already control, that leaves: Hammerfell, Morrowind, and Black Marsh. To start off, Black Marsh has never been truly conquered, not by anyone. Not even Mehrunes Dagon could do it. I seriously doubt the Aldmeri Dominion could do it either. Hammerfell broke from the Empire on their own and continued the fight against them and basically beat them to a standstill, again even if they won it would be MORE resources drained from them even further, and more occupied territory as well.
    Lastly there's Morrowind. While the Dunmer are not nearly the force they were before everything that befell them, they are not nearly so weak as to be an easy target. Not to mention that Morrowind is on the furthest possible location on Tamriel from the Summerset Isles, meaning that the supply lines are greatly stretched, as even if they keep themselves supplied from Cyrodiil they are still pulling from further and further away. On the flip side the Dunmer will be fighting on their home turf in a defensive war. The Dunmer also have one thing that they can match the AD with: Powerful magic users in the form of the Telvanni. I know that Telvanni aren't really the most...proactive, but I do feel like if push came to shove, they WOULD fight back against invaders. And Telvanni wizards are powerful, ancient, and knowledgeable.
    My point from all this is that even if we give so much in the favor of the Aldmeri Dominion, and take away every possible advantage for the Empire, is that the Empire falling does NOT equate to an AD victory in the long-term. Even if we presume Ulfric Stormcloak wins and the Empire is dismantled, I doubt he'd be so stupid and arrogant to think that he could stand against the AD without some ally, someone somewhere to help him. Let alone the other areas of Tamriel looking at all this going on and not taking action, because they will. OH yes, they will very much so take action. It might vary, it might be counter-productive, but I am quite confident that if the Empire DOES fall, people are not just going to take that sitting down.

    • @troodon1096
      @troodon1096 6 років тому +13

      Troodon agreed. Plus I found a book were though the khajiit joined the dominion seems its population don't care for dominion, empire and even the mane there leader. Chances are if the khajiit are given an option to rule themselves they want to take it. So if empire or a alliance against the dominion gave them a option of ruling themselves for temporary aid. The khajiit will take it possibly. Ill reply the book name if want to read its 1 I found while experimenting with my argonian modded play through. Though I feel the empire will fail were its just cyrodil or only high rock(dont remember if they were the last ones other skyrim off top of my head)

    Ooor killing a weak emperor allows a stronger emperor to take the throne, re-establish links with Hammerfell, re-allows the worship of of Talos, bringing Skyrim back into the empire, with extremely proficient and capable soldiers and commanders, veterans of the Skyrim civil war where as prior to the outlaw of Talos, there had been no real conflict before the Great War for about 70 years. So the Army at the time of the Great War was inexperienced and less effective.

Perfect scenario for me: Dragonborn sides with the stormcloacks, kills the Emperor, defeats the Thalmor and starts the new empire. Remember only the dragonborn can sit upon the ruby throne. And I find the theory about dragonborn being an agent of Hermaeus Mora quite boring. Rallying the Orc tribes, recreating Orsinium, rallying Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Valenwood, Hammerfell, and High Rock should be enough to defeat the Aldmeri dominion. Whatever is left of the empire can be used to help create supplies and food for this new empire. A new empire will definitely be needed, not run by imperial diplomats but A Dragonborn who can unite and strengthen all nations.

    Something that isn't really considered is how much of an absolute military and political beast Tullius is. For one, most of the Empires resources and military is not focused on defeating the Stormcloaks, General Tullius came in and set up shop, recruiting local Nords and utilizing mostly local resources to fund his army. He's actually moments away from ending the war outright at the start of the game and it happened all very quickly. Barring the DB joining the Stormcloaks, they really don't stand a chance against him. Given his political savvy and military prowess I could imagine Tullius already is aware of the instability and general nastiness going on, which is why he made it a point to take the Stormcloaks out as quickly as possible, while setting loyalist on the seats of power in Skyrim and without heavily drawing on the Empires resources. Basically, he's thought out every thing mentioned in the video with probably more insight into the specifics and has a contingency in motion.

    Regarding the Roman Empire vs Christianity thing you really ought to read Michael Parenti's "History as Mystery". Christianity might on surface level seem like a problem for Imperial function but the actual material/political structure of the church serves to solidify power for whomever it supports. The adoption of Christianity by Constantine likely extended the dominance of the Roman Empire by centuries past its sell-by date.

    • @cielopachirisu929

      Very much this. Christianity reunited the Roman Empire after its adoption, and kept it going long past when it probably otherwise would have crumbled away. If we count the Byzantines in that list (whom had a lot of their reason for existence being Orthodoxy) then it extended them way into the 1400s. If not, it still held together for a couple centuries more.
      Had Christianity not come to prop up it’s quickly-fracturing civilization it might have even went down shortly after Constantine’s time.

    This all adds up, but consider the following headcanon (which, as you've admirably explained in your videos on Dragonbreaks and Gods, must exist somewhere in the world's timeline ^^ ). After dealing with Alduin, Harkon, Miraak, and Ulfric, not necessarily in that order, the Last Dragonborn strolls down to the Imperial City, shouts their way to the Throne Room in the White-Gold Tower, proclaims themselves the new Holy Dragon Emperor using the might of their Thu'um to silence their detractor and reconquer lost territories (probably with some provinces happily swearing their allegiance to such a mighty and rightful ruler), and finally, brings all of their armies, their Thu'um, and their countless other allies (such as the frickin' Dragons) down on the Dominion. That'd be quite the surprise, wouldn't it ? ^^

    Morrowind is my favourite Elder Scrolls game and here is a small theory that I dont really believe will happen but I want it to.
    Since the Nerevarine is immortal because he has a modified disease that makes him immune to any type of illness and makes him never age, during the events of this video when the emperor dies and cyrodill has a civil war, skyrim has a civil war, high rock has a civil war, empire dying, thalmor on the verge of invasion, argonian conquest of morrowind. The Nerevarine relises that Tamriel is in turmoil and after uniting the warring states of Akavir (Akavir is a continent next to Tamriel and is where the Nerevarine is currently in) and forming some kind of Akaviri mini empire he goes on the quest to save Tamriel once more starting with his home and closest place next to him, Morrowind, the invaded barbaric argonian prove no match to his Akaviri super soldiers and and master tactics so they surrender to him and they forcefully join his side therefor he has conquered morrowind and black marsh but even with argonians, akaviri and the remaining dark elves he will lose against the other countries so he goes to to find the mysterious missing tribunal member, Vivec, he finds him, he joins the nerevarine, cyrodill was next and was the easiest, the very weak empire relises the legendary hero and his help to the empire before and happily join him, skyrim was next, the last dragonborn joins the nerevarine because he is tired of not being able to do anything about his already in turmoil home but even with the persuasion of the legendary dragonborn couldnt get ulfric stormcloak to join the nerevarine simply because ulfric does not bend knee to an elf, his only option was to fight the storm cloaks and crush them, high rock was valuable to the conquest of tamriel simply because the bretons were the only hope to establish a new government in tamriel they invented politics after all so the nerevar could not simply conquer high rock he has to unite them, he gathers them all to a meeting and discuss their unending hatred to each other ( this situation is kinda like the dragonborn when he did a temporary peace treaty) and after a long debate they came to conclude that high rock will be split into multiple countries that have their own ruling government so they could leave each other alone in peace, the orcs of orsinium wanted to stay out of the fighting of tamriel so that they could be left in peace to live their noble peaceful life and obey the code of malacath even though they did not join nerevarine they still maintained an alliance ( you know for trade routes to high rock and such and such) , hammerfell was an easy buch, most of them are pirates, mercenaries and merchants and easily baught by gold (plus the nerevarine really wanted them due to their strong fleet so he can use it to cross to summerset isles, next was valenwood, it proved to be hard to conquer valenwood due to the wood elves being master trackers and huntsman of their own forests, he knew they would never beat them in valenwood so he drew them out to hammerfell and the wood elves was not used to the conditions of hammerfell and surrendered after short battles, elsweyr was next, since the nerevarins is friend to azura the deadric prince of dawn and dusk, sun and moon, and the moons being sacred to the kahjit they joined his side because they belived he was some kind of moon incarnation, the high elvescof the summerset was next, the aldmeri dominion knew they had no chance to beat him so they falsefully surrendered and invited the nerevarine to a dinner party to try to poison him but the dragonborn could sence something was wrong, him knowing some of the plans of the aldmeri dominion from the plans he found on the thalmor embassy in skyrim so he was on constant lookout for something, he saw an assassination attempt and shouted the assassin to peices, after this the nerevarine was outraged and slaughtered all the aldmeri dominion soldiers and took over summerset isles. After all the countries united under a new empire, the nerevarine became the emperor of a new and reformed empire. So bassicly this is tiber septims story but using different names, timelines, people and nerevarine doesnt become a god. Tamriel finally found peace at last.
    This is elder scrolls 6 everybody.
    OR DID TAMRIEL FIND PEACE??

    General Tulius knew that the Thalmor was behind the war, it’s even in his last words “this is what they wanted you know...”

      But that wasn't what they wanted, as stated in the video the thalmor didn't want *either* side to win.

      Kenan Tutsi I know, the longer the war last, the more chaos and destruction it causes. But Tilius doesn’t know everything and the fact that he sees through the lies of the Thalmor (because he clearly wasn’t granted the rank of master, but is on this council) and can determine that the civil war is what the Thalmor want. I think it is safe to say that he was referring to the civil war as a whole in his quote

    The main outcome I have as head canon is the success of the peace talks, since without the dragonborn taking sides, evgir unslaad is most likely. An option I wish were included is to share Ulfric's dossier with him, but no such luck

    Could y'all do a video on the future of the blades after the events in skyrim?! I'd like to think with a DB to lead them they could become stronger. I mean they have a lot of experience fighting the Thalmor (mostly losing) but with a DB backing them up could they be a contender for a new "Empire" or something of that nature. I'd love for y'all to go into detail on what you think.

    I've given it some thought and initially I really wanted the Spellcrafting system from Oblivion. Now there's usually a good reason why cool things like that aren't carried on so I've come up with a solution. We would be given a Spell Merge ability either by itself or in each school that allows us to merge 2 spells at say 50% power. Then further perks could allow higher potency of combined spells or adding a 3rd or more spell to the mix. Another idea I can't take credit for but have really enjoyed is an ability called Spellscribe from a mod (I wish I knew which magick pack its from. I'll look it up.) Which allows you to store the spell you are dual casting to be released when you power attack. The mod does it at no magicka cost but I would add a reduced cost if I were to do it myself.
    Ultimately, I want an easier experience when trying to use a variety of spells without going through so many menus. More hotkeys please. Combos? A then B triggers C?

    Please don't take the "Season Unending" quest title too seriously, it's a translation to the old Nordic term for War, "Evgir Unslaad" if anything it's more of a reference to the nords war loving ways also displayed in the actual meeting when Ulfric and Galmar were the first to object and try an get something out of the truce.
    I agree with everything else mentioned in this video🤘

    I just noticed while watching this vid that Tullius’ armor looks like it says “DOG” near the bottom of the breastplate. Coincidence? I think not

    Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Hammerfell and Highrock secede due to the empire conceding their captured territory to the Thalmor? That being the case, the ideal scenario is that the Stormcloaks take over Skyrim and create a new alliance between the former provinces of man ala Daggerfall Covenant.

    i find it interesting to note that the Great War was not just a battle between Cyrodil and Summerset but a battle between humans and elves. On that note, the humans were at "full power": all the races of men (Hammerfell, Skyrim, High Rock, and Cyrodil) fought against an "incomplete" elven race (Summerset, Valenwood, and Elseweyr). The elves are missing 4 of their bretheren (the Dunmer, the Dwemer, the Orcs and the Snow Elves). Each of the missing elven races are so because of their own personal circumstances but that doesn't change the fact that ALL humans went up against a fraction of the elves. Despite their clear advantage, the humans were fought to a "stalemate" which was still favorable to the Dominion. Add the events of Skyrim (Hammerfell leaving the empire, Skyrim's civil war, the Reachmen causing trouble within Skyrim). The humans are all splintered while the Dominion, though incomplete, are fully unified. It's an interesting way to add more evidence to the Empire's days being numbered

      One of the guys did say at Bethesda that the overarching story of TES is an inverse of the rise of Man and withdrawal of Elves from Tolkien’s work. I expect TES 6 takes place in Elsywer and will show a failed Empire and full might Dominion.

    I remember way back when I completed oblivion I suspected chancellor ocato of being a secret villian. He was the only member of the council left, all those empty chairs as well as those conversations in Chorrol Square about the summerset isles leaving the empire. He got assassinated huh.. dayum
