You saved my knee!! I started watching your vids a few weeks ago bc 3 mos ago i hurt my knee while running. I listen to your vids to find my symptoms (baker's cyst, all over knee cap pain & nerve pain on inside of knee radiating down shin, pain bending knee or putting weight on it). I started your exercises, even those that are designed to realign the lower leg bones. This morn, still groggy, I instinctively stretched both legs out straight, realizing too late I was doing it with BOTH legs. I felt a lil pain but felt my bones scraping my knee cap as they went back to where they were supposed to be! 3mos of agonizing pain, now none! Im walking just fine, like pre injury! The knee braces hurt me so i stopped wearing them. I can tell my knee is weak & wobbly, so Im going to wear a brace & start doing some strenthening exercises. Thank you for understanding knee movements, the diff pains & how to fix them. I do believe your exercises helped my bones to be able to go back in place. AND, Im betting had I gone to an Ortho he would hav did a knee replacement bc I hav been bone on bone since 2005, but it doesn't hurt, just looks bad. You saved my knee! PS, i broke the foot on same leg which left 2 toes partially paralyzed, how could you possibly kno that!!?

Thanks for your reply Dr. Middaugh. I already had 2 steroid injections in my left knee. The first one didn’t work the second one help only for a couple of months. Have also been doing daily exercises but my knee continuous to be painful. Taking daily pain medications are the only ones that help me with my mobility. I have difficulty using the stairs and can’t walk very far. Even with pain medication it does not relieve the pain completely. The orthopaedic surgeon said my knee is worn. Many tanks again for your advice.@@epmanualphysicaltherapy
Would a leg air circulation massager help tight calf muscles? I stretch and yes sitting for work but am active otherwise and muscles so tight. I will have total knee replacement soon so am trying to get my body ready for this surgery. Thank you for this video. I believe you help me to be better prepared for what is to come! Am so grateful!
I'm onto my 3rd revision on the same knee in just 3.5 years. Make sure your surgeon knows what they are doing or you will end up in a world of pain like me. Im actually in more pain now than before my surgery. If you can avoid surgery, do it, as this is a horrible surgery procedure.
I had a partial knee replacement that lasted five months. After three years of ablations, pain clinic and suffering I had a revision to a total knee six weeks ago. I was discharged sixteen hours post-op with intractable pain and only given hydrocodone/APAP. My first week at home was a nightmare, intractable pain, screaming every hour as I had to stand to use the urinal. This surgery requires at least a three day admit, where one’s pain can be adequately treated with IV and PCA narcotics. pain blocks and epidural analgesia. My wife is an RN, and she had her hands full taking care of me that first week. I know they are trying to save money, but the third most painful surgery requires IV Dilaudid, not Tylenol, Motrin and melatonin. This was a hard decision for me, because the loose components in my tibia weren’t as painful as my original bone on bone pain. Time will tell if I made the right decision.
This was very helpful, I have had 2 knee replacements, both knees 3 months apart. This has helped me. My first knee replacement was not as bad as the second. However, this is week 3 after surgery. Hopefully, it will get better.....I hope to get back refereeing football next year.
Good luck with getting back on the field. My doctor was very clear and said "NO RUNNING". I did go back for one year after the first TKR. But knew that I was no longer able to "keep up" and always be in the right position.
Fortunately, I’m an amputee and not using a prosthetic, this way I don’t run risk of falling. Had a problem with my pain mgmt doctor being in Albuquerque but not being able to send a prescription for controlled substance across state lines. Having been using a xtra strength Tylenol and Diclofenac. Had hip replacement 14 months ago and used extra strength Tylenol for it too. Almost three weeks out from knee replacement and have pushed through the exercises/pain. I ice and fortify myself right after my regime.
After seeing all the problems everyone has had doesn't make me thrilled at the thought of needing both knees replaced at some point in the near future. The UCLA Head of Orthopedics says the devices only last 20 years. The women in my family live between 93-95. I was born w/my kneecaps on the side. No one noticed until I was 19 and had torn my ACL. I had kneecap realignment surgeries when I was 20. My UCLA dr tells me that the bones in my lower legs are also mildly deformed. He claims that can be repaired during the replacement surgery. Because of all this, I have been walking wrong since infancy...which has also led to problems w/my left hip. I've been butchered (cut up) numerous times over the years. I'm tired of it. I really don't want this additional surgery, but I'm bone on bone for the most part and am finding it harder to walk. I ride a bike most places, plus I have a carbon for long distance riding. My future goal is to bike from LA, CA to my brother's in Williamsburg. I'm 67 now. Before the Pandemic, I rode 50 mi 2-3X per week. I've been told not to attempt any 1-2 day bike trips until I have the surgery. Truly not looking forward to it. Was hoping they might come up w/a better device. Also alone out here. Family is on East Coast and friends work. Was told I might have to spend 2 weeks or so in a rehab center. Not the best option since all my friends are younger. Anyhow, all the advice, while helpful is not encouraging. And, oh yeah, I live on the 2nd fl. Fun.
Where you are now, 7 weeks out, I was on Tylenol and a generic Lyric for nerve pain. I can’t take anti inflammatory meds. Lots of icing after exercises and physical therapy.
Dr I had diagnose Baker’s cys..after I did the exercise from your previous video about that cyst.. I felt better! My question can I go back to the Latin dance class? Thank you so much Dr🙏
I am a month and a half out from total knee replacement surgery, physical therapist says I am recovering wonderfully but I’m still having pain. How long is that supposed to last?
Hi Maureen, we are so sorry to hear that you are still experiencing pain after a month and a half after your TKR. Pain levels can differ based on individual factors like pain tolerance, extent of the surgy or other conditions. Generally, most people experience a gradual reduction in pain over the first few months following surgery. However, if the pain is persistent we highly encourage you to speak to your primary health care provider or surgeon about it.
I hate pain meds and how they make me feel. Besides the ones I got weren't worth a crap. Will I do my other one!? Probably not.....I am 9 weeks out and very tired of the pain. Healing and moving well though. I don't sit much and keep active. Was driving after 5 days but it was my left. Right would be much worse.
I keep hearing this pain medication. I've had 2 knees done now and there aint no medication out there. That takes care of the pain. And tylenols are useless. An oxycodone just makes you feel high. So I don't get it
had total knee replacement,2 years ago, sometimes my knee will drop, what causes that i cant trust it,it happens out of the blue could be just standing there,im 70s,
I must completely disagree with you regarding skiing and other related physical activities. In fact I rejected two orthopedic knee specialists to perform my two knee replacements due to their recommending for me to not ski or cycle ever again. I ultimately chose a fellow skier to perform my procedure because he knew that I could get back on the mountains again with the proper physical therapy. What’s the point of getting a brand new knee if you can’t return to the activities that you love to do? Yes there are risks but the knee replacements parts aren’t fragile, your bones are! You’re doing an awful lot of fear mongering here. Everyone is different and you can’t generalize what you can and cannot do post knee replacement. That’s up to the individual!
Agree 100% I had my knees replaced in May and June of ‘22 (over age 65). Was skiing in January ‘23. My doc was all for it - has pics of people skiing post tkr in his office. I also cycle. As for kneeling, a bit of “discomfort” pales in comparison to the pain pre tkr so not an issue. I would recommend going into the surgery in the best possible shape - so called prehab. I exercised right up until the morning of surgery. Weight training gave me the upper body strength I needed to get out of chairs, down and up from the floor and comfortably using the walker and cane.
Doctors may not always ask if you have sensitivity to metals like nickel in cheap jewelry. I told mine and he took it seriously. I got a blood test (not covered by my insurance) but very happy I did. I was off the charts sensitive to what is in the titanium. Later on, I might have had to take it out. But, seeing the allergy report, he ordered a ceramic zirconium implant. It's lighter weight and longer lasting. Often given to young people for that reason. It's a Smith and Nephew
Had a friend’s doctor tell him s*x was out for a year. He fired him and found another surgeon…. Much to his wife’s chagrin. She was looking forward to a year of “rest.” 😂😂
Went back to yoga after about five months, kneeling feels weird as the nerve endings in the knee have not yet fully kitted back. You really know you're kneeling on metal and plastic !!

I read the why thanks.
What about Tai Chi?
No its not Okay to not be able to kneel....
3 mos out from TKR. I want to be able to get into and out of a bath tub. Goals
I find it really uncomfortable on hard surfaces for more than a minute or so, but other than that, I have no issues kneeling.
In regard to weight lifting and gyms in general, what about staph infections? Gyms are a breading ground.
Soccer is a contact sport. Full contact for sure.

Get a thick yoga mat, and be patient. You will very likely be able to do it in time. I mean like a year or so.
If you had back problems before knee surgery Think twice about having it done
I am seriously considering not doing the 2nd because of my back. I am 5 weeks from the left one and I have a bad back and ankle. Not been good.
