@@sandrabutler8483 hi Sandra, best wishes for your upcoming surgery. You can buy the item you’re looking for online, with a Google search. Your pharmacy can probably order one if they don’t already have it.
Will, this was spot on! 3 years ago, l learned that l had severe knee arthritis in both knees. I came across a pilates knee video that includes the exercises you listed. Now, l am pain free and lost 79lbs and changed my diet. I appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work! Am sharing the channel with my friends. 😊😊😊

Will, I feel inadequate to express what a valuable and selfless service you are providing for your viewers. I’m quite fortunate for a 72 year old retired nurse that my knees don’t give me any issues or pain. But I’m going to practice these movements to keep it that way. I have a friend who does have one very arthritic knee and I will be sharing this video with her. Thank you for you sharing your knowledge so generously and with such kindness🥰
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so pleased to hear your knees are healthy and strong - let's keep them that way! Thank you for sharing this with your friend, I hope it proves beneficial for her. I'm wishing you both all the best 😄
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm 72 and was disabled at 50 with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and depression. I was told this week that I need to have a total knee replacement to solve my pain! I was also told this 4 years ago! But with therapy I found on UA-cam, at first from Bob and Brad, and with cutting out processed foods, carbs, and sugar, I have done really great with the arthritis and bone on bone situation in my knee!! I had a couple of falls recently and so I was scheduled for physical therapy for my ankles, calves and quads, and after a couple of weeks of that, my knee flared up again!! You mentioned the quads, but said first you have to help the flexibility of the knee!! I really think this will help me!! God bless you for ALL the great videos i have watched of you helping people over 50!! I really appreciate you!! ❤🙏🙏
Just came across your channel today, already ordered the book and signed up to 3 tip Friday. Given a lot of these exercises by physio but just told to do them, not shown how to do them correctly and just left to get on with it. Watching you I know why it hadn't worked!! Back to it....with much better instruction so thank you so much. Now I just need to not get cramp in the back of my leg EVERY time I try to do a bridge or anything which requires my leg to increase flexion. Lol.
Thank you so much for ordering my book, I hope you find it packed with interesting and useful content! I'm pleased my videos have been able to provide some clear instructions to help you get the most out of these exercises. Keep up the great work 😃
You might want to try adding magnesium and potassium to your daily regime. I used to take magnesium but still got cramp, once I added potassium I no longer get cramp, game changer, potassium helps the muscle absorb the magnesium. We all need to balance our electrolytes.
Thank you, Will! These exercises are spot on! I did PT a few years ago for my knee arthritis and muscular imbalance. I went through these same exercises, more or less, and feel that they have REALLY helped me. I plan on modifying what I currently do now as per your instructions! CHEERS!
Enjoy your videos but do want to say that some people may confuse knee arthritis with total cartilage wear. In my case both knees were classified bone on bone many years ago. If your meniscus is pretty much shot or your cartilage has deteriorated to a huge degree, no exercise will improve functionality very much. Total knee replacement is drastic but is sometimes necessary. My advice is to avoid replacement but accept that it might be required.
Also, in many cases (including for me) the inflammation in the joint is primary. I first developed arthritis in my hands, and was able to watch it progress. If the inflammation doesn't stop (and I do seem to have been able to halt it for many of my finger joints) then the bone becomes deformed, and after that the joint stiffens and loses its full range of movement. No amount of exercise will help, at that point. My right hip got to that stage, and I did have a hip replacement. But I am hoping to avoid a knee replacement, since that is likely to be less satisfactory.
@@maradallglad you are seeing success. I'm 72 and was disabled at 50 with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and depression. I was told 4 years ago that I needed a total knee replacement, but with therapy from UA-cam, and changing my diet, I have put off the knee replacement and shoulder replacement and my 6th spinal fusion!! I went keto 3 years ago and then stricter to carnivore, and my inflammation is so much better! Pain is minimal, anxiety and depression are gone, no longer type 2 diabetic, fatty liver is gone, and I am now off 8 of my 11 long term prescriptions!! Feeling better than I have in over 25 years!!! God bless you in your health journey!!
@@janjenkinson1829 I'm not entirely certain, as I was doing a number of anti-inflammatory things (including low carb diet, even keto). I tried all the supplements and strategies that I came across, but the one that seemed to be most helpful was boswelia. There is research evidence showing that this inhibits the inflammatory pathway in the synovial fluid, and the first time I tried it, there was quite a dramatic improvement. (Then I got a flare-up in another of my finger joints, and it didn't seem to work as noticeably - but that flare-up too has subsided, so maybe there has been some cumulative & more subtle benefit.)
What a great video. I’m 69 and am beginning to feel a little bit of weakness and slight pain in my left knee. I have started these exercises today. One question I have for you is, what exercises can I do for bursitis? For the last couple of months I’ve been having pain in my left hip and the doctor diagnosed it as bursitis. She said the way to alleviate this was exercise. I’ve been riding a stationary bike but wondering if there is more I can be doing. Thank you very much.

I've been icing it and of course noticed improvement (of course leg was stretched out straight) but it wasn't until I was in the bath and stretched out that leg (full extension) and realized that THAT improved the pain, also that sleeping with that knee bent led to terrible stiffness, that I made the correlation. @@paultetreault9243 They will. I say avoid knee replacement if you can. Had the left one done 5 yrs ago and the right one is total loss of cartilage so bone on bone. I am working on strengthening the glutes and it has been a tremendous help. I’m avoiding surgery on it with everything I have in me. Replacement is a Brutal surgery and not easy to recover from.
@@paultetreault9243 Do everything you can to not do TKR. It’s not for the faint of heart. If I knew 5 yrs ago what I know now I wouldn’t have done it. I would have just had the clean up the diseased inflamed bones and called it good along with the right exercises.
Great tips Thankyou! I’ve recently been diagnosed with a torn meniscus coupled with severe osteoarthritis in my L) knee. After my surgeon reviewed my MRI he said all he would do is a full knee replacement. I’m only aged 64 & would rather avoid surgery. I’m a keen runner although not a swift one! I’m currently doing strengthening exercises for the muscles around my knee. I can do leg extensions quite well now. The flexion exercise with the towel remains a little challenging. Would you recommend some more exercises to help me with the discomfort of the damaged meniscus? It’s more uncomfortable than painful. I have been advised to not even try jogging until early next year. Kind regards from Victoria, Australia!
I’m re watching this video because at yoga today I realised my most painful knee doesn’t go completely flat. So I guess I haven’t got full extension. Both knees are arthritic and the right one isn’t totally extended. So this does apply to me. Interesting.
Will, I have a lack of extension but not in my knee, but in my feet/ankles. When I see you do calf raises, you can go a lot higher than I can. I can only rise about four inches up from a flat footed position.😢
Hello Dr Furlan, I have someone who suffered a major TBI in June of this year. We’re in October and she still struggles to walk, her speech is slow, in her words “I can’t process new information” (but she remembers, much better than me, things we did 20 years ago) We have a great NHS team that has worked with her since she was able to leave hospital. I would like to know if you consider this kind of trauma (because we are now starting rehab) nociplastic, nociceptive or neuropathic? Your nociplastic videos have helped me immensely with Fibromyalgia, thank you. Now we want to start the process of “rewiring her brain” because her next Neuro consult is only in Jan 2025. Thank you Dr Furlan
I've done some of these exercises before for my knee. They really do help! Lately, I've been getting a shooting pain behind my left knee and lesser ache in my hip/glute on the same side . Any ideas Will?

I feel like you're spying on me! Yes, I am going through some knee issues now. PT completed, MRI scheduled now. I will be doing these as best tolerated, and hopefully, the MRI only shows some mild arthritis. Thank you for being here!
Thanks, great advice. Question: is it ok to do the passive knee extension and weighted heel props on both legs together? If it’s one or both knees that have problems I guess you’d want the same extension and flexi on on both legs. 😅
I have severe arthritis in the left knee and have lost a lot of flexion. Would you recommend starting with the first exercise and maybe the second for a week or so? When I bend the knee too much it tends to cause problems.
Jeepers, great video, so encouraging. THANK YOU!!!! Just had x rays left knee bone on bone, had a cortisone injection. Asked orthopedic Dr. about P.T. to help strengthen my knees. His only suggestion was surgery. So disheartening. Please REMEMBER these Dr. are in the business of cut and slice…. Sickening. Thank you Will.
I can't lift my left knee up as high as I used to so that I can wash my foot when in the shower but I still manage to do it anyhow by adapting to the problem. Could a tight hip cause problem with your kneesCuz I can put my right leg across my left knee when sitting but I can't do it with the other leg?
No one talks about the type of shoes one should wear to protect & help with balance those arthritic knees. Can you recommend the qualities a shoe should have to give the knees some therapy. Thanks
I avoid the knee pain and knee surgery by doing squatting exercise with holding dumbbell at front of my chest. I go down by keep my back straight and chest up and bring your knees forward at the same line of my toe tip without a chair. Every rep, I move down for three seconds and move up for another 3 seconds. This my legs strong and my knees strong
I have a complex medial meniscus tear. I have minimal arthritis only under patellar. The orthopedic doctor wants to do a partial meniscus removal. I am a very active 66 year old female. Thoughts please
Are these the right exercises where it’s not arthritis but sharp pain just above the patella, where there is inflammation of the tendons attached to the patella?
Love your videos Will. Im on the list for replacement because I have no more cartilage in my knee as well as some arthritis started. Will this help or is replacement probably going to be my only option? I love walking but it can start being very painful for me.
I have bone on bone, locks, etc.. your exercises are good, but totally depends on each person. I have both of your books. I will say the new one has too many words and not enough pictures. I will watch the videos.
An exercise can fix the muscle causing the issue without or with surgery. Surgery comes from a word meaning injury, so it is good actually if you would much prefer to have the muscle innervation fixed. The dog is smart, he has only wanted to fix the issue. A physiotherapist has fixed the pain completely more frequently.
I had meniscus surgery 1.5 years ago, still swollen, pain, catching, ciicking, etc. I had a follow up MRI which shows bone marrow edema which I now know was present in the presurgery MRI. The surgeon never mentioned this and I feel that the meniscus surgery was useless and the real problem all along was the edema. Your thoughts?
Hi Will, would you do the knee extension and flexion for severe patefemoral arthritis? My physio is v keen on strength based rather than flex based activities.
Will, tk you for fantastic Service to all. I NEED SOLUTION TO HAVING NO CARTILAGE IN LEFT KNEE... ALL DRS & SPECIALISTS SAY THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE TO REPLACE MISSING CARTILAGE. @@paultetreault9243 Do everything you can to not do TKR. It’s not for the faint of heart. If I knew 5 yrs ago what I know now I wouldn’t have done it. I would have just had the clean up the diseased inflamed bones and called it good along with the right exercises.
I don't need this yet, but I'll remember it! Keep 'em coming Will!
Happy to help!
Thank you, this is a much needed addition to my routine.
Great to hear you'll be adding this to your routine!
thank you so much for all these terrific tips, they really do help
So pleased to hear you've found my videos helpful!
Thanks for all you do. I got a copy of your book from Amazon. ❤
Thank you so much for ordering my book, I hope you find it packed full of interesting and valuable content!
Very good to know all this. My knees have just started to bother me. So I'll get on this right away. I very much appreciate your videos. THANK YOU
I hope these exercises prove beneficial for you!
I’m re watching this video because at yoga today I realised my most painful knee doesn’t go completely flat. So I guess I haven’t got full extension. Both knees are arthritic and the right one isn’t totally extended. So this does apply to me. Interesting.
Congratulations on hitting 1 million subscribers!
Will, I have a lack of extension but not in my knee, but in my feet/ankles. When I see you do calf raises, you can go a lot higher than I can. I can only rise about four inches up from a flat footed position.😢
thanks; your videos have been very helpful, and u r very good in explaining things.
Hi there - I have videos on my channel regarding pain in the lower limbs that may be of interest, including the following video which may off some insight! ua-cam.com/video/DNATTASKbDo/v-deo.html
@@HT-Physio Thanks Will!
Another American physiotherapist strongly advice "do not strengthen your quads " to treat knee arthrisis. According to him it is a big mistake, He made many video on that subject., The latest video "brutally honest advice to avoid knee replacement" El Paso Manual physiotherapist.
I am not a physiotherapist and I do not understand his theory, but I am certain that you could understand and evaluate .
I have a lot of confidence in your expertise and I would be happy to know your point of view on his theory.I read your letter very friday with pleasure.
I'm in the same spot you are in Jean Paul! Well done on mentioning it. Sending you here a copy of what I wrote to Dr. David Middaugh at El Paso Manual:
Dear Dr. David, The other day I heard a PT from England tell people to strengthen their guads. He is excellent. He is reliable. But word has to get around about your treatment Dr. David. Someone else noticed this and left the following comment for Dr. Will Harlow.
Jean Paul wrote "Another American physiotherapist strongly advises "do not strengthen your quads " to treat knee arthritis. According to him it is a big mistake, He made many videos on that subject., The latest video "brutally honest advice to avoid knee replacement" El Paso Manual physiotherapist." The title of Dr. Will's video is = Avoid Knee Surgery with This Proven Strategy (50+)
My comment disappeared. Let me just say that I think Dr. Will Harlow should call Dr. David Middaugh and talk about their quad-vs-glute discrepancy.
Your right they should talk to each other because I do not know what to do.
Great video. Thanks. Not sure if I have sciatica as I have pain down my left leg. Where can I find your video exercises for sciatica, please.

Happy to help!
This is really good, I'll be watching your channel everyday from now on!
Love your videos Will, they are so helpful. Thank you 😊
So pleased to hear you've found them helpful!
Great video, thanks, Will!
You're most welcome!
Yes tried these and help a lot. Thank you.
Anything for ankle arthritis…. Already bought the book. I like the video demo better😊
Could you do something on patellar instability or subluxation? Where the knee feels like it coming out of joint and popping back in.
Thank you for this information. Just received your new book😊
I feel like you're spying on me! Yes, I am going through some knee issues now. PT completed, MRI scheduled now. I will be doing these as best tolerated, and hopefully, the MRI only shows some mild arthritis. Thank you for being here!
I'm pleased my video came at the right time for you. I'm wishing you all the best with your scan!
Thanks, great advice. Question: is it ok to do the passive knee extension and weighted heel props on both legs together? If it’s one or both knees that have problems I guess you’d want the same extension and flexi on on both legs. 😅
Lovely video Thank you Will
You're very welcome!
Hi thank so much for the amazing channel.I have chondromalacia patellae can you please make a video with exercises for this condition?
I have severe arthritis in the left knee and have lost a lot of flexion. Would you recommend starting with the first exercise and maybe the second for a week or so? When I bend the knee too much it tends to cause problems.
I have a complete meniscus tear. 5 months on now. Pain is not that bad now, though still can't squat..this is what I have been doing.
Thank you for the knee exercises. I have pseudogout in knee. OK to do these exercises..?
Jeepers, great video, so encouraging. THANK YOU!!!! Just had x rays left knee bone on bone, had a cortisone injection. Asked orthopedic Dr. about P.T. to help strengthen my knees. His only suggestion was surgery. So disheartening. Please REMEMBER these Dr. are in the business of cut and slice…. Sickening. Thank you Will.
Great exercises, thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for the detailed advice.
Thank you buddy!!!
I'll let you know how I turn out.
Please do!
Thank you. It was very useful.
❤
Thanks for all you do!
It's my pleasure!
Can you recommend the qualities a
shoe should have to give the knees some therapy.
Thank you very much !! I sure will try all of these
Great to hear you'll be putting them to good use!
@@HT-Physio does this help if I have a meniscus tear
I have a complex medial meniscus tear. I have minimal arthritis only under patellar. The orthopedic doctor wants to do a partial meniscus removal. I am a very active 66 year old female. Thoughts please
So helpful! Thanks!
Thank you
You're welcome!
I wish I had seen a video like this a couple of years ago.
Hi sir if any exercise avoide hip arthritis surgery kindly suggest me...?
If the knee arthritis is 4th degree and cartilage is almost lost, can this exercises help? Pl advise.
Can you do a follow up with more strength exercises?
Thank you!!!
Happy to help!
Pls send me info on how to get your book snd hiw to register for 3ntip Friday. Thanks
I'd like clarification: should we do each set of exercises separately building up until ready for the next one, or can we do them all in one set?
Thanks
Just got your book!
Thank you so much for ordering my book, I hope you thoroughly enjoy it!
Thank you!
Will,could u pl
Give some advise for flat feet.thank you
How long was the follow up of mild-moderate, to be able to say 'it didn't proceed to surgery'?
Will, tk you for fantastic Service to all. I NEED SOLUTION TO HAVING NO CARTILAGE IN LEFT KNEE... ALL DRS & SPECIALISTS SAY THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE TO REPLACE MISSING CARTILAGE. I FEEL BY NOW, THERE MUST BE! IS THERE SOMETHING THAT CAN BE SYRINGED BTWN THE KNEE BONES WITH SUPPORT AROUND BONES? Walking bone on bone is creating imbalance with hips & spine. Can you throw light on this 🤞 Gill. East London South Africa
Always looking for options outside of surgery.
