Finally possible answers to tightness, squeezing, painful sensation I’ve been experiencing since my TKR in 2017. Surgeon won’t take me seriously when report my symptoms and concerns. (Had total reconstruction of same knee at age 13) He won’t listen to this highly educated RN that something is wrong with this knee. Will be sharing your video with PCP, Thank You, I now have hope it’s not in my head.
@@christinesmurthwaite8660Hope I have great success too with my TKR op. having soon. Want to be like you would be over the moon if lasts good 30 yrs that is so wonderful good on you.
I had a total replacement. A year later I had a revision. I couldn't bend it much or totally straighten it. Also had a lot of pain. After the revision I am functional. My knee only bends at almost 90°. I was better off not having it. I had my knee bent under anesthetic doctor said I got it to bend. Yeah right. I will not have another. This video was right to the point no fluff. Thank you.
I’m with you! I’m 9 weeks in and still in pain every day, recently I’ve got to 110 but I’m so fed up with the pain. Hard to sleep on either side after having my right knee done.
Thanks Doctor for you illustrations. I'm going soon to have total knee replacement. God bless you 🙏.

I had a knee replacement 3-4 years ago. To this day it is no better than before the replacement. I've had 3-4 major surgery's in my life and the knee replacement pain was by far the worst I have ever experienced. Im not willing to go thru that again.
I would take a hip replacement any day instead of knee replacement. I had one 5 1/2 years ago. It did NOT give me the problems that my knee has done. My knee still huts n I did the physical therapy!!
Good explanations in this video, I had my left knee done 4 years ago. Just had my right knee done 6 weeks ago. I am in constant pain with both of them, they ache so bad that I find it impossible to stand up or walk for more than 10 minutes, I have to find somewhere to sit. Followed all of my physio exercises, I go to the gym and swim 2 or 3 times a week. 70 years old and I feel I have no quality of life. Worked hard all of my life as a scaffolder, now I can hardly walk. Just for good measure my hips are starting to ache
I am sorry you having such difficulties. I am 3 months post right TKR and having the tightness band. I am hoping will continue to improve as I have thought what if had this done (I'm 71 and retired 6 months ago) and now won't be able to enjoy retirement due to knee problems. I don't know your health history but I have bad osteoarthrosis and fibromyalgia and consider that other health problems may contribute to continued problems with knee replacement. I wish you better days.
I’m in pain daily after 9 weeks. It’s swollen and sore all the time. I’ve done everything they ask cause I’m fed up, but it’s so slow to heal. I think they did a lousy job on me.
I’m so happy to have come across this video. I guess that my pain could be from any of these issues, but I have no idea which one. My left was done in 2009, and has never been good. The right was 2012, and hurts, but not like the left one. I still have to take stairs one at a time, because it hurts to bend the left knee. Now, to find a doctor who will address the issues.
Im sooo glad to of found this video!!! I've had both of my knees done and live with constant pain in one degree or another. The information on this video gives me hope that there may be help for me! I cant begin to tell you how good that is to here!!!! Thank you so much for making this video! 🙏👏
I had total knee replacement in sept of 2017 right knee exactly two months later the day before Thanksgiving my left knee was done. I can’t take pain meds just took Tylenol in hospital and home. I had no pain, no problems at all . I was 68 and this summer I worked wine harvest for my son walked 8 to 10 miles a day and climbed up and down stairs all day 6 days a week for 3 months. Best thing I ever did for myself excellent doctor and excellent hospital
I’m sure you are a rare case. High pain tolerance. I can’t image having my other knee done now. I’m 9 weeks out of TKR. It’s a full time job just rehabbing one knee and the other one (will need to be replace in the near future) is crucial for mobilization during healing. Can’t even think of how I’d get around if it was also replaced at this point 😱 Everyone is different. I hope I get over the fear of something going wrong soon because it’s really effecting my mental health as well. 😢
Currently in PT for knee issues (torn menicus, ligaments, etc. due to sports injury many years ago). Glad I watched this video -- I will do everything I can to avoid a knee replacement.
Love this video and how I wish, one of those problems was mine. I've had 38 knee surgeries on my left knee and the result is that I can no longer bend it. A year ago I had my 5th surgery on my right knee and I'm in so much pain when I have to bend it, like sitting and standing. I'm 66, and my mobility is very poor. If they can't find what's wrong with this knee I feel as if I'm going to be permanently in a wheelchair soon. I wish everyone a speedy recovery and pain free life.
That was so helpful. Going to have right knee done first in May then about 9mths if all goes well i will have my left knee done. With them both done i will be like a new me.. 🌹
I had a knee replacement and 18 months later had a revision. The first time it was done incorrectly. Another words, they did the knee replacement a second time. I was in constant pain. All I have to say is the aftercare after the surgery is just as important as the procedure. Good physical therapy is a must! It has been 9 years since my revision and it feels great. Do research on your surgeon and check their credentials!
Hi, I’m now at 15 weeks of a TKR. The pain, is doesn’t seem to go away. I say “it’s screaming”. Anyways very disappointing. Ideas, suggestions, story sharing ?
Jennifer, keep doing your PT. Take it from me, it takes time. If your surgery was done correctly, it gets better as time goes on. I now need to get my left knee done. Soon I hope.
Hi Karen.. May I ask what aftercare looked like, after the second experience?? Professional physical therapy? I did very extensive physical therapy. still hurt. After 2 and half yrs they want me in a knee brace and back to physical therapy again..What exercise did you focus on the most? Can you name them?
Thank you doctor for explaining about pain in the knee after TKR. Two yrs after the knee, still I often feel tightness around the knee. I am going deep tissue massage therapy and started to go the gym to strengthen my quad muscles. That helped. Walking is still not that great. Going for the 2nd knee soon. Hopefully then both knees support me walking. Stairs are some what hard. I am 79 yrs old. In fair health. Once again thank you. 🙏🏻
My knee replacement was March 2021 and I'm still having pain, swelling and movement problems. The P.A. said everything looks normal and will see me back in 1 year . I hope to God that all is much better when I'm checked again. I can't stand to live in pain! My Osteoarthritis is painful enough in my body, and now more pain to contend with my knee replacement 😫
I have had my right knee replaced twice now. The first surgeon did performed the replacement. Five years later it still hurt , was stiff, sore and swollen all the time. I kept going back to the surgeon. He said nothing was wrong inside the knee capsule. Finally I went to a new surgeon. He immediately ordered a bone scan. Found out the pieces of metal in the knee were loose. In fact so loose when he opened the knee they fell out. He said the bone under the metal pieces were like mashed potatoes. He placed rods in the tibia and femur (knee revision surgery). Replaced all the parts and I have been pain free ever since. In fact it didn’t even hurt as much as the first initial replacement. He is the best surgeon. Since then this place I have gone to. Has placed two metal braces on C4 and C6 in my neck. And again a good job and successful. Then I had another surgeon from the same place took a bone out of my thumb joint that was basically destroyed somehow. They take a ligament from the same arm and roll it up like a cinnamon roll and sew it into the place of the removed bone. They call it an anchovy. Another great surgeon. Olympia Orthopedic has nothing but talented surgeons. I think they actually understand the pain levels patients go through in these complicated situations and are dead set to correct it for the patient. I will never go to any other surgeons except these talented surgeons. They are the best and their support staff is excellent also.
An ortho guy gets to place metal rods in the neck ? That is a different specialty as they guys that handle the spine are usually neuro. Do you live in a remote countryside where surgeons do it all ? I put a pacemaker with a surgeon , originally, from somewhere is South America, who told me the next day, he was going to perform hip surgery. I was very surprised. That was in rural TX decades ago when I was a pacemaker rep. I still remember. You never see this anywhere anymore. Each specialty approves their surgeons for special cases. No hospital now, would approve a guy that does it all. He may have done a good job but it is not what we expect.
Thank goodness for competent Doctors. Summer of 2020 had both knees replaced at same time. Had to go to rehab facility for 10 days. Never had any pain just had to get energy back from toll it takes on the rest of your body.(I was 68) Rehab is vital . Had in home visits about 2 weeks then to a facility once a week for about a month. Best thing I ever did. I live in Philadelphia suburbs.
No pain? I had mine done and they kept me sedated for 24hrs post op and I was grateful. Then I could begin moving. Yes the pain declines over week one. But it is the most painful of the joint surgeries. So glad you just lost energy.
@@joywebster2678 of course I was on pain killers but after rehab I had very little knee pain. I was answering the posts that said they had knee pain months later.
I had a total knee replacement of the right knee. I had bearable pain the first day but after that the pain was terrible. Therapy for 12 weeks then back to work. That was in 2018. Still have numbness and tightening of my knee. Difficulty going up and down steps. Still unable to walk long at a time. One day will have to have left knee replaced.
@@marshafowler5424 so sorry to hear. Do your research before you get the next one done. Replacement knees are more custom now . Years ago was one size fits all. You should be able to walk with no pain. Stairs are not easy for me but I’m 70 yrs. old. Good luck next time and definitely change Doctors!
I had a total knee replacement in 2006. I had problems right away extreme stiffness that would not go away. In 2007 I had a partial revision with a replacement of the patellar component and removal of excessive scar tissue. This only worsened, and to this day, I am able to bend the knee only enough so that I don’t limp. I am unable to sit normally in a theater or airplane due to not being able to bend the knee enough. Arthrofibrosis has been a nightmare for me. I would never consider doing another knee replacement.
I have had total replacement surgery on both knees 7 & 10 years ago. I have a medical implant (Spinal Cord Stimulator) and could not have an MRI. The Dr. had to perform the surgeries the old way by fitting the knee by hand. I have never had any issues with either knee. PT pushed me hard and gave me exercises to do at home. When PT was completed, I was able to flex both knees to 135 degrees and straighten them to 0*. I am active and walk 5 to 7 miles a day.
I'm so happy you those great results! But just a small advice, take or leave - cut back on the weight bearing exercise like so much walking, or you will soon find the implants getting loose & subsequent pain. Stick with swimming with a smaller amount of walking. Cynthia G, MD & knee patient.
I am in a stage of advanced osteoarthritis. Only with the exercises I am dragging. Thinking about a full replacement. Thanks a lot doctor for giving patients such valuable information about post surgery problems.
Thank you for honest and clear examples. I had my TKR in March 2020 and I'm still getting stiffness and pain ! I've seen physios and Osteopaths to no avail and spent hundreds. I'm going to go back to my GP to request an x ray. Thank you .
I have already had two right knee surgery's. Still have pain issues after 20 years. Was considering knee replacement, but being 64, I figured it would take at least a full year to get back to 100%. I don't want to not be able to ride my dirt bikes and play golf for a year, so I live within my limitations. I wear a knee support brace while riding my dirt bikes and it helps. That is just until I jam it or twist it the wrong way. I try and play within my limitations. No sitting around rehabbing for me.
I would really appreciate the opportunity to speak to you personally. I am so glad these videos came up on list. I watched the one about the three different types of 'fixes' and this video. I had a replacement that was so bad it had to be redone four months later. My second surgeon took the cap out BY HAND! I literally have ALL of these issues with my knee. I was a mountain biker and had to give up riding. I am in constant pain, and it takes about 10-15 minutes for my knee to get warmed back up to walk normally from sitting too long. I am sick of the pain and want my life back.
Had both my knees replaced same time 20 months ago. Also had bow legs r 13 % ,L 9 %. The surgeon said he had to do a lot of work. R leg was pretty good after 9 weeks left not that good. Tryed to get back into golf after 7 months but got swelling and had to give it away for another 4 months. Came good but flexion is around 120 right knee and left is around 100. I joined the gym after a year and this has helped a lot just by being stronger. I had to take pills for 6 weeks then just when I went to physical therapy. I am happy I had them replaced the 1st 6 weeks are the hardest, just going to the toilet is a challenge, had a raised seat very good. I live in Australia
I had total knee replacement on my right leg that I had polio at age 4..surgery was done May 31, 2022..I'm still walking with the walker..and in pain...I listened to your video & wished I had know about this group..This surgery has taken alot of my independence..
I have noticed the same. As long as I keep moving its not bad. I sit for awhile it gets very stiff and sore. Only 6 months in but hard to be patient. Work 12hr shifts in manufacturing and rarely sit because of this. But happy I'm working and golfing.
that little heart was likely put there is haste. I think the good doctor's mind read " I am free of stiffness and pain ", so he put the little logo.......Heeeee. After 13 months, i doubt stiffness and pain are to be celebrated.
I have a partial kneecap too due to an auto/ school bus 27 yrs ago. Was able to do the things you're doing until I slip and fell in a store 1/28/:2024. Now I have pain, swelling in the knee, arthritis . I think I might have to have total now, limping without braces, pain in back of knee, 2 tares. Shot and physical therapy didn't help, using a cane to take weight off my left leg.
Thank you for that great enlightening education I am suffering 1 year with tightening and swelling from a revision I am scheduled for a second opinion.
Thanks . 👍👍
I had both of my knees replaced in 2017. I had the left done first, the right done 3 months later (after the left). It was extremely painful but I just wanted to get it over with. Now I'm back to doing squats and deadlifts at the gym and riding my bicycle outside.
I’ve had my TKR In August 2018 not one day has passed without pain. My pain is so great that I feel like I’m dying. The dr. That did my surgery doesn’t see any reason for my pain. MRI looks good X-Ray also looks good. Nerve test states I have neuropathy in my whole leg. There’s days my leg feels as its going to explode. My cries go unheard 😢. Thank you I’m seeing a different doctor and he’s going down the list to rule out anything else. Thank you for you information very helpful.
I had a total knee replacement on my left leg February 2022. Three months later I walked 58 miles during a European vacation. I checked for metal allergies beforehand!!! Since I was allergic to nickel, a titanium and oxinium implant was used. I did my PT religiously. I'm very happy with the results.
I had full right knee replacement three years ago. It is still problematic...any amount of exertion/exercise causes pain and large swelling of right knee. This lasts for days...and even after days..and the swelling subsides.....it is still painful. I am seeing my original surgeon in a few days....and they have been telling me....everything is as it should be....I am at my wits end!
I’m right there with ya. My surgeon won’t even discuss possible soft tissue damage (scar tissue). Just focused on the bone. Bone’s fine, as is the implant. The tendons around the knee are stiff and the area around the fibula has a hard lump. But it’s hard to find a surgeon that will address scar tissue.
@@paulamartin6724 Get another surgeon. It took me 4 yrs to find another surgeon to address my constant pain. Still after going to 8 different surgeons only one would listen. Never could figure out why it always hurt but he pulled the whole thing out and started over 8 weeks ago. He said it’s not suppose to hurt worse after a replacement yet I ended up on crutches the last 4 yrs. These guys all stick together and don’t address all the “f” ups they cause and lives they ruin. What is the deal with so many surgeons not knowing what they are doing? How can they put in the wrong size components. Or screw up the cement. Cause infections, malalignments etc.? Remember everyone, half these guys finish at the bottom of their class.
I slithered down the Palatine Hill last year. My knee cap apparently was just ready to give in but managed to get home to see a surgeon. I went to IMed in Teulada where I had a knee replacement. Guess what, it was plastic plus a very smart sewing up job. I can honestly say the line of sewing is perfecto. 18 months on I'm a bit slow in walking but going to get a treadmill to work on.
I had a great surgeon that did my 1st knee at 51 and my 2nd a year ago at 56. 2nd one was a little bit of a diva and took longer to heal but hiked Zion 5 months out., After a crazy pop 8 months out, it is better than ever.
Thank you. I'm at 16 months. Did my post op exercises every day for 6 months and went to PT for 9 weeks. I swim laps 5 days a week and get around ok. Knee doesn't bend fully and feels stiff, some discomfort at night. Should I be satisfied? I wouldn't want surgery again. Your presentation was stellar, of course.
I had a knee replacement in 2009. It was wonderful. I had no trouble, no pain, everything was great! Until I tripped over an area rug and tore the meniscus in 2019!! It hurts more now that before the surgery!! My other knee is in line for a replacement but it's going to have to wait. Also my second shoulder surgery will follow the second knee. I'm sure both hips will be somewhere down the road. It's the case of the disappearing cartilage.
Very helpful, thank you. I have had continual knee pain after my surgery especially in the patella and pain with going down stairs. You helped me to understand what might be going on.
Thank you, the information was important. I had a total knee replacement done 6 years ago and went through several procedures after wards.. having looked at your informative video, I can attempt to find some relief… it’s hard living with constant pain..but you learn to manage… after a while you get tired of the pills and injections…
Thank you Professor. You explained the points very succinctly and in a down to earth manner. It is good to have forewarning of what can happen before making a decision to go ahead or not.
I was fortunate to have both knees done with total replacement in the same afternoon 11 years ago. That meant 1 recovery which was stage 8 pain for 4 days. After that it rapidly lowered with no problems at all. I , the surgeon and the knees were very happy with the recovery and back to work as a truck driver after 7 weeks. I joked, no brain, no pain! But really everything went perfectly.
Wow amazing!!!! Hope I recover as good. Getting my left knee done first on August 25 and I have never looked forward to surgery before. But so ready to get this bone on bone taking care of. The right knee differently is in the near future as well. Thanks for the encouragement 🙏
I had a knee replacement in 2018. Physical therapy was painful but well worth it. The pain I had before the surgery was far worse. The decision to have my tkr was the best decision I ever made.
That was my experience as well. Best decision ever. Mine was done in 2018 and I had a good recovery (still a lot of work) my range of motion has been 0-134 since about 4 weeks post surgery. I hike, run agility with my dogs, garden etc. I did decide not to take up snow skiing again 😄
I had a partial knee replacement on my left knee 11 years ago generally still very good some catching starting every now and again .Had a full replacement on my right knee knee 5 years ago . This has always been my bad knee had full cartilage out when I was 19, 52 years ago . I have had a at least three wash outs , also I had a very successful realignment when I was 43 it allowed me to play county squash and racketball until I was 60 . I played pro and semi pro football until I was 38. When I was 61 to my surprise I had a partial replacement on left leg . The full replacement has been a success in the fact that I have no pain and can walk all day long . However I only have 90 degrees bend I cannot ride a bike , and have to be careful going down stairs , I have had surgery to cut the scar tissue . It did not work . I also had an operation to improve bend again did not work . I think the realignment is the reason .I am frustrated that my bend is restricted but I am able to play golf and walk with no pain or problems . As I have been very fit all my life it restricts me working out eg cannot ride a bike not able to jog . If the replacements deteriorate will I be able to have new replacements ?
After bilateral replacements, a change of prosthetic in the left 1 year later( no infection), a second prosthetic 1 year later with a femoral stem 3/4 down my tibia, 3rd revision for a deviation of the patella ( kneecap) medically, all with great deal of pain, swelling of the leg, and unable to weight bear on the left. A left collateral ligament was don with worse results. Going to another, better hospital/ doctor for a re-eval and possible amputation of the leg. I am 75 years old and now very depressed at the possible outcomes. Two MD’ s have agreed with scenario. In my opinion, it was a botched surgery. I am also a RN. Had a lot of PT over the last 5 years and I’m ready to pack it in. Be cautious.
I’m 9 weeks out of TKR. It’s a full time job just rehabbing one knee and the other one (will need to be replaced in the near future) is crucial for mobilization during healing. Can’t even think of how I’d get around if that one was also replaced, like some have said they’ve done 😱 I hope I get over the fear of something going wrong soon because it’s really effecting my mental health as well. 😢
I had my Bilateral TKR in September 2020. I have always had the sensation in both knees of tightness (or as I call it "like some scary monster grabbing my knees so I can't run away", yep I'm a bit weird). I've been told it's nerve damage from the incisions but I just wish it would go away. 6 weeks after my 2020 surgery, I had an infection in my left knee. Waking up after the debridement, was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Don't get me wrong, I'm so glad I have my replacements and their little niggles, compared to the daily agonising pain I used to live with.
I am blessed and lucky. I had a fabulous doctor, outstanding wife, great therapist who helped with my recovery. As a result my left leg with the knee replacement functions nearly like the right normal joint does. I have easy 145 degree range of motion (i cam squat with ease) so far so good like I said I’m blessed, very blessed but was it ever a long journey to get to this point. Surgery was last January 10th and I’m able to hunt and walk miles through the woods without pain or discomfort. While I believe a lot of the quality of the doctor and their diligence to doing it correctly. For example my surgery took 2 hours, the other doctor available does them in an hour and most of his patients return for repeats. My doctor is a Christian prayed over me before surgery for good results and God gave them to me. I also believe that the care the patient gets and how much the patient push themselves is crucial as well to a great outcome.
I was worried at first about it still being sore until I talked to others that had this done and say it takes over a year.....now this says 18 months. Only 6 months in so have to remind myself to be patient. I am playing a lot of golf! Work 12hr shifts too.
Question: Do you cut muscle and or tendons when you do a total knee replacement? After doing research, I believe cutting those two parts during the operation can lead to greater pain and a much longer recovery. There is a knee doctor on the East Coast that cuts neither muscle or tendons, and it appears as though his patients recovery period is much shorter and much less painful.
I had a R-TKR 12 1/2 yrs ago Still numb And nerve pain near the great toe area But I’m able to walk very well At that time my L-knee also needs replacement & I’ll never get a TKR again NEVER ! But if I did I’d have to be desperate It’s a brutal surgery & recovery
Thank you for getting to the point. I am 5 weeks post replacement and number 2 describe how I am feeling. Unfortunately I am almost at my 20th PT sessions and if I need a redo the insurance company will not pay for more therapy.
I'm 78 and had total knee replacement ten weeks ago. It's like I never had a problem at all, but I prepped by stretching and strength training at the gym, several days a week. It paid off and I'm having the other knee replaced four months later.
Kind Sir, THANK YOU for sharing this information!! I'm about four months post right TKR and have watched my good share of post-op videos, and I've never come across this information - this is spectacular!! I'm having a pinching/stabbing sensation on the lateral side of my knee when I lay on my left side and lift (abduct) my right leg. Massaging it relieves the pain. I'm thinking something's up with my LCL, yes? ...maybe? Again, thank you! Greetings from the southern California desert! 😊🌵
To keep from getting an infection, you need to have an Antibiotic prescribed by your Orthopedic Dr. On hand. If you have any Dental work done, including cleaning, exams, you need to take the Antibiotic as prescribed. Also tell your Dentist about your Joint replacement, when you make your appointment, and make sure the information is in your Dental Chart. Have your Orthopedic make very clear, if there are other times you should take the Antibiotic. BTW, one of the Throwable Square Boat Cushions/Life Preservers makes an excellent knee pad. Feel the Cushion, for multiple layers of foam, rather than a single block of foam. This type, will move a bit, putting less pressure on the knees.
eat garlic, lots of it.......It is a natural antibiotic. Dentists do not prescribe them for dental procedures and I know as I have had many and never took one single prescription. The guys said, it did not work in the bone. I think they are right. It works in the tissues, around it....In the bone ? it is a different deal. We have different ways to treat osteomyelitis as that is pretty radical and nasty. .
I would like to have been reassured that residual intermittent discomfort, sometimes pain, even six plus months post-op, was neither unusual, nor necesessarily a symptom of one of the eight pathological conditions as described by Dr. Bellemans.
Mine was kind of covered in malalignment. My second replacement was very painful from day one. Felt like I walked into a trailer hitch with my shin, all the time. The end of the tibia stem was angled towards the front of the tibia. It was very close to the edge of the bone. Less than 1/8” from the front edge. Found another doctor after looking at the xrays.
God bless...keep moving...make sure you start P.T. soon after surgery..especially soon if your body builds fibrosis. Good luck..be patient..take almost a year to fully go hiking again! Lita Martin.
Pain issue #9. One pain issue that many of my providers don’t understand is that of pain from changes in barometric pressure. Most just say “oh that’s just changes in the weather.”I was in a car accident 20 years ago and have both knees and hips replaced. I live in Santa Fe at an altitude of 7500ft. I am lucky that my brother who served as jet engineer in the Air Force has explained it much better than any provider. My understanding is that the pain of swelling occurs when soft tissue swells and is next to or aligned with metal that doesn’t. The higher the altitude, the worse it is. He tells stories of soldiers with poor dental work screaming in pain when they’re inside his plane I have a rod through my femur, that during the monsoon season feels like it’s being sawed in half. As the years pass I stopped having the sharp pain, but instead I get flu like symptoms when the barometric pressure changes. It’s helped a lot when I go to sea level where pain goes down and energy goes up. I also keep track of the weather with weather apps and prepare in advance. I also try to stay fit. I belong to a Master’s swim club, try to eat right and stay away from sugar!
Sante Fe! I'm down the road in the "Q". Thanks for your information about the altitude changes. Boyle's Law explains that well! The coefficient of expansion and contraction in dissimilar materials due to the aforementioned is the cause of the pain. I'm experiencing that. Have a blessed day! 🙏🤗
I had a knee replacement over 11yrs ago worse thing ever.never been able to bend it.other going same way .I won't get it done to many painfull memories
Bilateral knee replacements. And one was 18 yrs ago and the other 8 yrs ago no pain whatsoever in either. Recovered. Very well with both. Not one bit of pain in either same MD. Did both. I feel technique probably has a lot to do with the. Outcome.
I had a total knee replacement February 2021. I told my doctor that I wanted to walk while playing golf so he gave me a replacement with a "hinge" in it. He said that's what I needed. Two years later, it hurts more than it did before surgery. (Only in the Hinge area) He tells me that I just need to build up my quads and stretch my hamstrings. I keep telling him that it "only" hurts in my "knee cap" not in the joint. I want it replaced so I can walk pain free again. Going for xrays this week to see if I could/should replace it again.
Had replacement 3 years ago. No problem. However, I know some folks who were not faithful in their P.T. Cannot emphasize the importance of P.T. at first it really hurts, but once you get beyond that, it feels great. Using Vitamin E cream on the scar greatly reduces the appearance of the scar.
I had to stop running in 2012 after 32 years of running due to damage on the inside of my left knee, I’m now 61 no longer use alcohol/ tobacco/ sweets and push weights 6 days a week and had a PNR on 9/3/23 as I intend to live a long life, I’ll take your advice on the importance of PT and yes it does hurt but I’m seeing a slight improvement after 4 days.Respect from UK.
coming up to 18 months after both knees done same time - both still painful one has nerve damage with numbness other has no range of motion is inflamed and warm and both are extremely stiff - walking is great if you love pain and if you love stairs- X rays show fibrous scars but everything is as it should be -booked into looks like a further operation- at start I was in a wheelchair for a month crutches for 3 weeks- has extreme reaction to pain killers so took none- rehab was done religiously including gym and pool work in vain - after watching video there might be hope
Great video! I had my R knee done in 2018 and L knee done 10 days ago. So happy with them both. I skied 10 weeks after the first one and hope to do the same with this second one! I have a friend who has had nothing but trouble. How does she go about finding an orthopedic surgeon with the experience and interest in evaluating the knees that don’t quickly recover and are chronically painful?
Knee replacements have a very high success rate. For those that are saying that there are much lower stats, I don't know where you're getting your information. Any surgery on anything medical will always have a small percentage of problems or complications...that's the human body! Had my right TKR done 1/2011, no problems, very little pain, little swelling, still have no issues. Going for my left TKR in 2 weeks. Had a CT scan for 3D rendering of my left knee, for the prosthetic.
Thank you very much for your video I have been told that I need my knee replaced again due to swelling and pain but I am sorry to say I don’t trust them to do a better job.
I had a knee replacement over 5 years ago and it never felt right I'm out walking with my dog 3 times a day and when I stop to chat for a while I can actually feel my knee swelling and the pain is just the same before I had the replacement
Had my right total replacement knee surgery 30 yrs ago. Can't complain at all. The left one was done 7 yrs ago, I have pain all the time and it clunks. Waiting to see a surgeon.
Mine clunks, also have instability, going in for revision to get a larger plastic spacer to tighten things up. Hard to get a straight answer why this happened.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but everything will turn out fine. Release all the negative thoughts and just relax
That's what she said lol😅😅
I needed to hear it thank you so much whoever you are
Needed that 💯
I needed to hear that thanx a lot
Finally possible answers to tightness, squeezing, painful sensation I’ve been experiencing since my TKR in 2017. Surgeon won’t take me seriously when report my symptoms and concerns. (Had total reconstruction of same knee at age 13) He won’t listen to this highly educated RN that something is wrong with this knee. Will be sharing your video with PCP, Thank You, I now have hope it’s not in my head.
Poor thing maybe go see another Surgeon. You should be listened to & taken seriously. All best hope all gets sorted soon for you 🤗

Thank you. The medial pain, bothers me sometimes. But I'm optimistic. I'll watch it. I had surgery Dec. 5th, 2023!!
Thank you.

I’m 9 weeks in and still in pain every day, recently I’ve got to 110 but I’m so fed up with the pain. Hard to sleep on either side after having my right knee done.
I had bilateral Knee replacement in 2005 and had a speedy recovery and no problems tp this day 8:00
Thanks Doctor for you illustrations.

It’s true. I’ve had 3 surgeries.
Find another physician. I know your pain, praying for you.

Can’t even think of how I’d get around if it was also replaced at this point 😱

total knee replacement--groups on face book i'm 26 months since i had it replaced,so glad i had it done,
Love this video and how I wish, one of those problems was mine.

HI Karen.. When you say the first time it was done incorrectly..how do you mean incorrectly?? I hope to chat with you..thanks
Hi,
I’m now at 15 weeks of a TKR. The pain, is doesn’t seem to go away. I say “it’s screaming”.
Anyways very disappointing. Ideas, suggestions, story sharing ?
I was in more pain the first surgery. The prosthetics didn’t line up and was very painful.
I’m there with you.
This is the most informative and concise medical video I have ever seen! Excellent information! Thank you!
Thank you so much Professor for this concise explanation on total knee replacement pains.
Where is this ? I'm in south Florida?
I'm looking for a good surgeon.
I am sorry to hear that.
Ya I’m 9 weeks in and it’s not going well at all..
Will the knee replacement separate from the brittle bone? Is this surgery successful in the long-term?
Oh dear !! I hope you can find a solution to your pain.
Thank you ! For your knowledge!!!!
Hope you will seek legal relief for your pain and suffering. Whomever did your surgery should not be practicing these types of surgeries.

Great explanations....I'm 13 months in with stiffness and pain.
Keep moving it. I find when I’m not moving my knee gets real stiff.

I’ve had my TKR In August 2018 not one day has passed without pain. My pain is so great that I feel like I’m dying. The dr. That did my surgery doesn’t see any reason for my pain. Very good explanation Sir, I understood it completely. I've had both my knees replaced, so far so good. Thank You Sir.
That and go dancing
The Meniscus was removed during the total knee procedure ?
They left mine. That’s what the MRI showed!

When you try riding a bike make sure you put the seat high so you can peddle.
Thank you Dr! I never have had any problem but I will share this with others!

Thanks 👍 you for Exploring eo
Will be having my Knee Surgery
In next few weeks Thanks 👍 Dr❤.🎉🎉
Where is that cute little heart approving of your decision ? Heeee.
Thank you for getting to the point. I am 5 weeks post replacement and number 2 describe how I am feeling. Unfortunately I am almost at my 20th PT sessions and if I need a redo the insurance company will not pay for more therapy.
I continued on my own. You can do it
@@karenjones1848 I am pushing thru it. Thanks for the encouraging words.
@rickycurry574 - Once you know the therapy exercises, you can do them yourself, at home. Do them every day. You can do this!
I'm 78 and had total knee replacement ten weeks ago. It's like I never had a problem at all, but I prepped by stretching and strength training at the gym, several days a week. It paid off and I'm having the other knee replaced four months later.
Awesome explanation. Dankeschoen Herr Professor!
abut to see a doctor for a replacement pray it all goes good thank you for the info god bless
Thank you. I have my total knee replacement coming up in a week. Monday 4/11/22.
My total knee replacement is 4/13/22
God bless...keep moving...make sure you start P.T. soon after surgery..especially soon if your body builds fibrosis. Good luck..be patient..take almost a year to fully go hiking again! Lita Martin.
Best of luck to you. It's a long recovery, but worth it
I am 5 days post total knee replacement and am doing so well!! Very little pain actually and this really surprised me! Best wishes on your surgery.
Wish you the best. I have to have it just have not...
He tells stories of soldiers with poor dental work screaming in pain when they’re inside his plane
I have a rod through my femur, that during the monsoon season feels like it’s being sawed in half.
@@traceynorcross5666 Keep up the good fight Tracey. As with everything, it takes time but keep working. By the way I'm 80 and going strong.
Will do, l hope to be back at work by the end of April.
Thank you 1am on waiting list your explanation fantastic i❤thanks God bless you.
coming up to 18 months after both knees done same time - both still painful one has nerve damage with numbness other has no range of motion is inflamed and warm and both are extremely stiff - walking is great if you love pain and if you love stairs- X rays show fibrous scars but everything is as it should be -booked into looks like a further operation- at start I was in a wheelchair for a month crutches for 3 weeks- has extreme reaction to pain killers so took none- rehab was done religiously including gym and pool work in vain - after watching video there might be hope
Great video. You provided a very detailed explanation.
Very informative but the video could do with a slight but very helpful improvement. Make the fonts darker and larger.
Thanks a lot, professor Bellemans!
Thank you Dr ,very helpful for me and for sure for many more.
Thank you very much for your video I have been told that I need my knee replaced again due to swelling and pain but I am sorry to say I don’t trust them to do a better job.
I had a knee replacement over 5 years ago and it never felt right I'm out walking with my dog 3 times a day and when I stop to chat for a while I can actually feel my knee swelling and the pain is just the same before I had the replacement
thanks Prof. is very good to know what the prob is !
Excellent video. Thank you.
Very good explanations!!! Thank you!!!
