      @MovewithDrMike  2 місяці тому +4

      @anuradha20725 Thanks for watching! Kinesio tape, also known as Kinesiology tape, works by providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting movement. Its elastic properties mimic the skin’s elasticity, allowing it to lift the skin microscopically when applied. This lifting effect creates space between the skin and underlying tissues, which can help with reducing pressure and pain, improving proprioception, and aiding in lymphatic drainage. The tape is often used by athletes, physical therapists, and in rehabilitation settings for various conditions like sprains, strains, tendonitis, and muscle fatigue.

We all were told that there may be numbness….once again, much better than bone grinding away bone. Yes, limb shortening can happen…again I refer you to my previous statement. I much prefer to look at the glass as half full than the opposite. A bit of positive thinking can do wonders. Have a great day.😊

      It is totally safe to do so! That’s why you can purchase these products at any local sporting goods store. And if it was my knee I would continue to use the tape on myself to do whatever it takes to speed recovery and reduce any swelling that occurs! The only thing I would say is that each product may use a different adhesives so just monitor your skin for the first few days after application to ensure you don’t have any skin irritation from the tape! Let me know which one ☝️ you decide on if you do!

    Dr. Mike,
    I enjoyed your video. I am about 5 weeks out from TKP for my left knee. I have little to no pain for the most part. I go to PT twice a week and right now, I am at 100 degree flexion and 12 degrees of extension. My biggest issue is extension. I have had numerous surgeries on my left leg due to osteomyelitis as a child. A couple of the PTs believe that old scar tissue might be adhering to the new scar tissue. I am trying to determine if the Kinesio tape would help with my getting better flexing and/or extension.
    Thanks,
    Mark

      Hey Mark! 🙏🏻 thank you for watching and I appreciate you coming by to comment! I’ve commonly used the Kinesio tape on my patients after knee replacement to reduce edema which as a result improves their range of motion. When a joint is swollen and inflamed it will typically be more difficult to move, but as swelling subsides that usually results in greater range of motion. I do think this could help in addition to continuing to work on your knee extension stretches! I made a few videos on my favorites exercises to help restore flexibility in the knee after surgery! I am a 73 year old woman living in Australia. I have had the second total knee replacement in the same knee-my right knee in the space of 14 months. The surgeon took the original prosthetic out and put the new one in because I kept falling over and my knee kept giving away without notice causing me to fracture many ribs, my neck my foot some compress discs, many concussion lacerations and other soft tissue injuries so he decided to put a new one in. I am over three months out of my second knee replacement and I have 24/7 pain which would be a score of 10 out of 10 and I have been on crutches for 17 months now with excruciating pain day and night and it never changes and I can only manage to walk on my feet for about two hours and then I am absolutely crippled with pain. Would this tape be of any use to me at all? I have been unable to use meds for relief and is icing and elevation is all that helps but it has totally debilitated me and my life not only physical but my mental well-being as well because I just don’t feel like I’m getting any better and I am continuing to do all the rehabilitation exercises and I did spend five weeks in a rehabilitation hospital post operation. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated. Thank you very much.

    Hello, this is Shadi from Lebanon. Can you help me? My mother had a knee replacement surgery a month and twenty days ago. She is 77 years old. She still will not be able to extend her leg and bend it 90 degrees. The size of the tumor is very small. I did exercises on the CPM machine, it bends 110 degrees. She will not bear it any longer. Does she need time to bend her knee? It is as if the knee is locked when it is folded. Can you answer it? Thank you

    Why is kidney disease listed?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  Рік тому +1

      Renal insufficiency is a contraindication because the tape can help reduce swelling in the surgery leg which will result in moving fluid back into the rest of the body. In addition this mechanism can affect how your kidneys handle fluids. Always consult with your physician prior to use if you have any of the conditions listed under contraindications.

    I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op TKR and didn't start PT until 10 days after surgery per my doctor orders. I'm pleased with my progress but my therapist has me freaked out about possibly needing a manipulation. My extension is at 0 and my flexsion is at 100 (with a lot of work). I sheded my walker about a week ago and don't have a limp expect 1st thing in the morning when I'm a little stiffer until I start moving. I was able to get on a stationary bike for 15 minutues with some warm up yesterday. I'm still on pain meds, which I'm reading should continue so it doesn't inhibit my exercising. Should I be concerned about my progress?

    So I have had multiple reconstructions. I have both hips replaced (Bermingham) Just had TKR. I would ask you this if you have such a wonderful product why are surgeons not on board with you? Their reputation is on the line yet this is not something they use? I am a walking injury and I could bang on all day I can promise you this anything you are offering is bullshit. The key to good recovery is to not push it keep swelling down and with exercise less is more. Tell me I am wrong?

    I‘m 8 months post-op with a RTKR and still feel a lot of “stiffness pain” down the front that seems like patellar tendonitis, and what feels like a ghost pain on the lateral side in back, possibly from the removal of my ACL. My scar is healed & looking good. Do your patients benefit from taping down the scar line to help with the patellar discomfort? Any suggestions for the pain in the area of my missing ACL? Thanks!

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for stopping by to watch! The tape is typically used to help with swelling control and pain. So if you’re having pain over the anterior knee then yes I would try placing over the area and see how your pain feels. I would also recommend exploring some myofacial release techniques and scar massage over the incision. This also can provide some good pain relief if the skin around the knee is stiff and immobile! Hope this helps and thanks again for watching!
