ITB is my main issue in the left knee. Pain on the outside of my left knee at times and I don't have as much range as the right side. I have had two total knee replacements both left and right. I kept doing a very physical job for 6 years after my left knee was severe bone on bone. The CTE scan for a robot to make replacement parts showed that I no longer had the majority of my knee ligaments in my left knee. I literally had no space for any ligaments. I was far too stubborn for my own good. My right knee was replaced in October 2023 and my left knee in December 2023. I walk fine on a flat surface, but stairs still cause some pain, but it is getting better with time. I did a slight tear of my quad on the right side after the replacement, yet I exceeded the expected range of motion.

My late daughter had Osgood-Slatters Disease when shw was in 7th grade. The Doctor said not to run on it and sent a note for school school, the knot-headed physical educator made her do it anyway. I think it is good they no longer have gym class for that and other reasons.

I've had knee pain for the past 15 years since Oct. 2009. The patella floats around willy nilly after I turned on it too quickly or something and it hurts terribly. It felt like my knee had turned backwards. Doctors won't tell me what it is and refuse to do anything other than shoot in steroids and roost comb which do nothing. Oh, you're old so it is arthritis - uh, not when it came on the second I turned too quickly when I wasn't this old. Don't let doctors kick you to the curb because you're not a hot 20 year old athlete, grrr.
I've had to find a way to improve it myself. Lay down and gently straighten your leg. It doesn't have to be a hard straightening. Then, concetrate on making the muscle over your knee cap or patella to move upwards. It is hard to find the correct muscle with just your mind but keep at it several times every day. You'll know when you've found the right muscle when the pain is gone in a flash. Concentrate on moving it upwards to tighten it. Hold it a few seconds to a couple minutes and keep repeating that movement a few times. 5 times. Not too much or that movement will strain it. Guess it is exercising and strengthening it over time.
Also, sleeping with a pillow under the back of the knee helps. Or if it catches when you get up from a chair, sit back down and keep your knees together when you stand. But the muscle thing works the best.

@jns0913 Your symptoms are like mine after I fell. The ER dr told me knees are strong. But they require time to heal after an injury. Elevation and rest help. Sometimes, an orthopedic surgeon needs to examine and take MRIs to see what is happening and then treat the problem.

I destroyed my left patella when I was 18~~58 now. Funny enough, THAT'S not the knee that's being problematic! The right knee has been hurting & burning pretty much all around the patella. I've been dealing with several lower lumbar discs that have been herniated around 30 years. Now a few in the neck have started. WHO CANCELLED MY DARN WARRANTY?!! 😆 Anyhow, when the knee starts screaminf I put 5% lidocaine patch on it and it will usually calm down. If my lower lumbar is complaining, I can put the patch on the painfulor inflamed spot and the *knee* will calm as well! So I have to think my knee pain is more a nerve issue rather than tendons & ligaments. Any ideas? My Dr just tells me, "Welcome to old age." I'm ready to show him that I can still do a decent high kick (years of marching band while slinging a sousaphone!).

You have nice legs (leg !), Brad. 😉
After an MRI, I've been diagnosed with a fraying meniscus.
It seems surgery isn't an option for this type of issue.
    (Except maybe for professional athletes!)
Three total cortisone shots over the last few years
no longer work and have really just been more of a 'bandaid.'
Do you have suggestions to ease the pain ?
I've done various exercises and stretches with PT,
yet it doesn't cure the condition. 🫤
    I'm a former competitive gymnast,
and it's suggested that this issue is in part,
a result of the constant pounding with tumbling and such.
    Help ! 🩵
