Grew up with Maiden, will die with Maiden. The thinking man's metal. "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the longest major poem by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, written in 1797-1798 "
It's based on a famous poem of the same name. It's wild. I love Maiden's dueling guitars, and Dickenson hasn't lost any of his voice from when he was young. One of the goats.
I used to hang out and drink with these guys back in the late 70s, early 80s in our local pub The Ruskin Arms in East London. They were the most humble decent guys you could meet. I must have seen them play there at least 30 times before they made the big time. I met Bruce when he was the singer with Sansom and it was obvious he would join Iron Maiden. I even played football ⚽️ with Stevie Harris for our local amateur team (Melbourne FC) and believe me he was as good at that as he is on the bass....and they really can tell a story!!!! Best thing about Iron Maiden is they've stayed true rockers and are STILL the most decent humble guys you could meet......up the Irons ⚒️⚒️⚒️
Yes and they shall make sure to pull up the lyrics too, because it's a history lesson. A very brutal history lesson that we not just pass by uneffected.
fun little fact you'll appreciate about Bruce Dickenson (singer): pretty much everyone who goes to a Maiden show says that Bruce sings for the back of the venue every time he performs...that's where that crazy volume in the belting comes from. And yes - it's one song. Pretty much like a four movement play.
BTW: the singer Bruce Dickinson is a pilot and on the tour he is always flying Maiden to the different tour places. They always have their own jet with an Eddie Emblem on.
These guys are known for literally spending the most money in pyrotechnics and stage setups on their tours than 90% of any bands of all time. They world tour every album, and do continental tours between world tours and albums. They still do it and have been doing it since the early 80s. One reason why they’re the best.
This is called a metal anthem. One of the best metal songs ever written. Adrian never plays his lead the same way twice on this but Dave always nails the studio lead. Both brilliant guitarists in their own right. Bruce is the top three frontmen in metal, Steve is my favorite metal bassist and Nico is on the Mount Rushmore of metal drummers. The fact that they are still playing today is unbelievable.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (originally The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere) is the longest major poem by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, written in 1797-1798 and published in 1798 in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads. Along with other poems in Lyrical Ballads, it is often considered a signal shift to modern poetry and the beginning of British Romantic literature.
Iron Maiden are story tellers in every song basically! This was the song I was hoping to see you do since your first Iron Maiden reaction stoked you got to hear it! I saw them live on this same tour the flight 666 tour.... Which is the singer Bruce Dickensons own commerical flight that he piloted for the tour.. If you noticed in the very beginning they showed the airplane landing that was Bruce flying the plane! The plane had an image of Eddie their mascot character and it said flight 666 on it.. I probably wouldnt want to have been on any one of those flights they did for the tour even for the bragging rights of I got to be on an iron maiden private flight lol Nope no thanks but ill come see your show when you fly into my town hahaha
That's why he stands in the spot any other bands singer would be in - it's his band and he's front and centre irrespective of the fact he's the Bass guitarist
one of Maidens best songs this era of maiden and No where In Time are my favorite albums The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is the best thing they ever written/ most Metal good Metal is someone telling a story you look songs written by Maiden are from poems and books. Lol "He always Looks Happy" he gets to do what he loves in from of 1000s of people a night who love and adore him... if that cant make you happy nothing will. how the schools have failed us anyone have to memorize this poem in High School or the Jabberwocky
You really need to watch the live after death version. The 1985 tour doesn't get enough reactions, but that is the tour which started my love affair with Maiden when I was 10 years old.
Not "rock" so much generally speaking - but "metal" definitely is more poetically written with various movements and changes in the songs with deep profound messages. This one is a direct translation from the poem-story of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coolidge.
39 years ago - I was 13 and saw The World Slavery Tour live- My first of many Iron Maiden shows and my life changed for ever for ever an Iron Maiden fan!!
Love the content keep them coming Pantera Domination live Moskow is a great one ,Cemetery gates, Walk, Cowboys from Hell, Mouth for war, Im Broken are just a few
This Is a 13 Minute Live Epic Masterpiece Yet Again From The Masters Of Metal Iron Maiden, Great Reaction Guys 👏 I Like The Way You Let The Songs Play Through To Their Conclusion and Then Give Your Thoughts? Other Reactors Stop and Start Every Couple Of Minutes? Which Can Be a Bit Frustrating! You Should React To Iron Maiden - The Talisman - Live En Vivo - Another Epic From Maiden.
Another incredible vocal talent (and band pilot), Bruce Dickinson is a UK national treasure. Iron Maiden are one of the few metal bands to truly transcend their genre to become a really great rock band.
Yesss!!!! I went to this tour in new Zealand. Rotam is my most fav maiden song. If you think this was long you should react to their 18 minute beast called Empire of the clouds. Loving your maiden reactions
I definitely wouldn't generalize rock with storytelling and lump Maiden in with a lot of other bands in this sense. Many have followed, copied or been heavily influenced by Maiden's lyrical approach, but Maiden have earned their own category based on how deep and expansive their catalog is. You've just scratched the surface. Maiden and Pink Floyd deserve their own genres based on their bodies of work.
Maiden is the best metal band of ALL TIME. But their songs are about historical facts or myths (many of them) just like this. So it's education at the same time. Best LIVE band you'll ever see. And Steve Harris is the best bass guitarist without a doubt.
They are doing a 2024' US Tour. Look up tickets. I'm seeing them in Sacramento in Oct of 2024' ( 7th time. First was in 84') still put on a killer show. Go to one!!!
I know you meant it as a joke but there are AMAZING modern musicians. If anything there’s more than there was in the 80’s. They just don’t get mainstream attention because the music industry isn’t based on talent or artistry.
I am the 666th like on the Dance of Death video as well as here too. The number of the beast is calling 🤘 Anyway keep it up guys, Maiden are absolutely legendary. You might check out Alexander the Great, another epic song.
This song is based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coolidge another great song based on another of his poems is "Xanadu" by RUSH if you choose to react to it i strongly suggest the "81" Exit stage Left Live version its Epic
This is my favorite song by these guys and one of the greatest story telling songs of all time. If you know the story of the Ancient Mariner then you would understand why the song switches moods in the middle and then back at the end. Speaking of greatest story telling songs of all time 2 of my others are Lil Wayne - Mona Lisa and if you've never heard of this next one, do yourself a favor and check out Wierd Al Yankovic - Trapped in the Drive-Thru. Also if you like guitar solos check out Jared Dines - The biggest shred collab song in the world 5 ... its a banger showing off some incredible guitar work.
Great to listen to this song with lyrics. You can better understand the story. Up The Irons 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Highly suggest you read the short story. Maiden composed this song to go along with the mood of the story. Iron Maiden: The only metal band where you gain intelligence from listening to them. No interpretation needed. Just an open mind to learning about history. Wars, battles, poems, short stories, mythology, historical figures...A wealth of knowledge at your fingertips
Hear the rime of the ancient mariner See his eye as he stops one of three Mesmerizes one of the wedding guests Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea..... ...The mariner's bound to tell of his story To tell this tale wherever he goes To teach God's word by his own example That we must love all things that God made And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser man And the tale goes on and on and on and on...
Everyone on the floor were always waiting for the dry ice so we could cool off. I always left drenched in sweat when I got a floor ticket. Oh and my dates were too and fired up for making out, lol.

Best live band in history
Overall I agree
Saw on first album tour 80 and beast tour 84
Best band in multiverse
That's awesome. I saw somewhere in time in 86 and seventh son after that 88 I think maybe 87
Come now. Top 10 absolutely, but let's not be precocious now. Best in the world? Mmmmm perhaps not quite that much.
No rock band teaches you more about history and literature than Iron Maiden!
Up the Irons! 🤘
Well... check out Sabaton. Most of their songs are about historic tales of epic battles during the many wars in history.
short story by poet Samual tailor
Long life to Iron Maiden!!!
Grew up with Maiden, will die with Maiden. The thinking man's metal.

Tripling guitars. 😉
C'était il y a presque 20 ans
Iron maiden one of the greatest metal story tellers
I'll never tire of hearing the guitar solos in the second half, my favourite of all of theirs!
I used to hang out and drink with these guys back in the late 70s, early 80s in our local pub The Ruskin Arms in East London. They were the most humble decent guys you could meet. No, this is not all one song, this a f*cking masterpiece!.
If I had 15 minutes left of my life, I want to go out with this blasting out the speakers
11:47 “this is all one song” I had a Grin from ear to ear when you said that.
Maiden are truly the best story tellers in Music History . 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Best band ever walked at this planet
Check out Iron Maiden doing Paschendale live (death on the road) for another "atmospheric" stage show.
Yes and they shall make sure to pull up the lyrics too, because it's a history lesson.
A very brutal history lesson that we not just pass by uneffected.
Up the Iron’s 🤘🤘

No other band can reach them!!!!!!They are unique musicians!!!!!!!!!!🎉🎉❤❤

Bruce has retired from piloting due to aging out and the planes were leased by the band
Bruce has retired from piloting due to aging out and the planes were leased by the band

Bruce Dickinson has also survived throat and head cancer and his voice is still amazing in 2023

The buildup after the instrumental section is one of the best things ever.

I could blow my ear drums listening to this song! Such a great one! Even better if you know the story of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
The bass player is the founder and main writer of all the songs (mostly) Steve Harris.
Iron Maiden are story tellers in every song basically! This was the song I was hoping to see you do since your first Iron Maiden reaction stoked you got to hear it! Go deep down the rabbit hole of Iron Maiden, you'll be amazed
I did my whole senior term paper on this tune back in 1986-aced it-got an A
Listen to this 1 when I'm happy,sad,angry,ancious...pretty much 24/7... lol 😅 WHAT A DRIVE...The nuyances....whoa..
Pocos grupos, por no decir ninguno, en el mundo suenan con tanta maestría, contundencia y magnificencia como Iron Maiden... Maestros de Maestros!
Estoy completamente de acuerdo con todo lo que usted ha enunciado. ¡Larga vida a Iron Maiden!
04:53 That bassist is the hearth and soul of Iron Maiden.
Especially considering he wrote most of their songs.
That's why he stands in the spot any other bands singer would be in - it's his band and he's front and centre irrespective of the fact he's the Bass guitarist
So hype you listened to and watched this. Up the Irons!!!!
Thanks for doing this one- it's one of my fav Iron Maiden songs especially the live version- Up the Irons!
They are excellant to see live they really do a great show and they like story telling you can learn about history through listening 😉❤️🤘

I was fortunate to see them play this in 1984 in Chicago. Incredible show!
Bruce is the reason why some of the heavy metal kids did well in high school history
You mean the band
You really need to watch the live after death version. The 1985 tour doesn't get enough reactions, but that is the tour which started my love affair with Maiden when I was 10 years old.
I’ve been a Maiden fan for almost 2 years and I agree with you. This was good, but 1985 was more powerful
I am Marine was in SE Asia first 1978. Had cassette tape with this and The Trooper played it wherever I landed. If they liked had new brothers
Not "rock" so much generally speaking - but "metal" definitely is more poetically written with various movements and changes in the songs with deep profound messages.

One of, if not the greatest solo in history 🔥 Epic guitar face lol skin crawls every time
Fear of the dark live in Río...saludos desde Chile
Simplesmente espetacular, perfeito do inicio ao fim 🇧🇷

I was lucky enough to see them live on that tour. They hadn’t played that song live since 1985!
Was lucjy enough to see them in 1984 and hear that epic song live back then.

is the first time I saw Iron Maiden with Accept. What a great time to be a teenager.
Yesss!!!! I went to this tour in new Zealand. Rotam is my most fav maiden song. If you think this was long you should react to their 18 minute beast called Empire of the clouds.
Loving your maiden reactions
I remember reading the poem in high school in 1986. I feel like it made me a better person, gave me needed perspective as a teenaged boy with autism.
Great reaction thanks 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉... I love iron maiden ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Greatest metal band of all time. #Uptheirons.
Saw them in 86 then again in July this yr still amazing.
One of the best metal songs ever created. First saw it live in 1985 as a young kid.

Yes kids, in the 80s, there were these people called "musicians."
I know you meant it as a joke but there are AMAZING modern musicians. If anything there’s more than there was in the 80’s. They just don’t get mainstream attention because the music industry isn’t based on talent or artistry.
Yall should do more sabbath from their early 70s stuff, they have lots of bangers, you gonna love em fo sho
They will be on tourin 2024,we already got our ticketsin New York, you must see them
The only way to actually experience this song is live. Seen MAIDEN 9 times 35 years. And each time was better than the last!
Nobody telling a story, gives a history lesson better than Iron Maiden.
I am the 666th like on the Dance of Death video as well as here too. The number of the beast is calling 🤘 Anyway keep it up guys, Maiden are absolutely legendary. You might check out Alexander the Great, another epic song.
Why everybody from this version and not from the LIVE AFTER DEATH one? I really don t understand.
15 minutes left on earth it will be remember tommorow and Europe's its the final countdown
this song should be taught in universities.....just an anthem in the history of music
THIS IS ALL ONE SONG!? 👀

All Member of Maiden in 2023 are older than 65 years and the Drummer Nicko ist over 70
