It's always amazed me how clear and how perfect Ronnie James Dio's vocals were. You never need to "look up" the lyrics of any song he sings as his diction when singing is perfect.
Even when he first hit the scene he was already master class. I think he was formally trained in opera or something like that. Took those pipes to rock n roll.
I'm sure you are already aware but he had a band before he was in Dio or Black Sabbath. He was in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in the 70s. Still as crisp and clear of vocals.

Dio has the vocals & the lyrics combined with an old school metal sound. He is definitely missed!! 👍😎👍
RJD was one of the greatest rock singers in history. Whether solo or with Black Sabbath, he could fill a stadium with his voice.

Ronnie James Dio - one of the forefathers of Metal. Dude was only 5'4" but had the vocals of a giant.
The Last in Line, Holy Diver, and Rainbow in the Dark were his 3 biggest hits but there's so much more you can dive into.
Dio a true Metal God… Dio is truly a legend .Voice built for the genre. RIP Dio….no one did it better.
The craziest thing to me is that the guitarist Vivian Campbell went on to play in Whitesnake and is now in Def Leppard. I was lucky enough to see him live in about 1983/1984 and he had neon lighting on his guitar and all the lights went out and that was all you could see during his solo. Dio’s first two albums are 🔥🔥🔥

R.i.p Ronnie James Dio,,,one of my favorite singers,and I think this song is my favorite from dio and there is aot,,love your reaction,,just a 57 year old metal head since I was 14,,I've seen some great bands live,,Metallica, slayer,Pantera, overkill,,ac/dc,,mercyful fate,,ozzy,,,judas prist,,anthrax. But never got to see Ronnie live

Lead singer Ronnie James Dio (1942 - 2010, R.I.P) 🤘🤘was a legendary vocalist w/ a career over a half-century... He was responsible for popularizing the " 🤘" gesture, often called the "devil's horns" (He got it from his superstitious Italian grandmother, who was catholic and would flash the gesture to ward off the 'evil eye')
Born on the East Coast as Ronald James Padavona, he formed a disdain for the Catholic church and organized religion after attending Catholic school... In the late 50's, he started singing and made a name for himself by changing his name to 'Dio' (Latin for 'God') and singing R&B and do-wop songs in the 60's... He got into the heavy rock music by 1970 w/ bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin and had his own heavy rock band Elf in the early 70's.
In 1975, Ronnie James Dio was asked by former Deep Purple guitarist to join his new band Rainbow... Ronnie rose to fame as the singer of Rainbow and recorded 3 albums before he was fired in 1979... Ronnie James Dio was soon asked to replace Ozzy Osbourne as the vocalist for Black Sabbath in 1980 and he brought them commercial success (again) before he acrimoniously left the band in 1982.
In 1983, he named his new band Dio w/ former Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice... hired former Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain and a young Irish guitarist Vivian Campbell... Their debut album 'Holy Diver' in 1983 and their 2nd album 'The last in line' (1984) made Dio a sensation overnight... Unfortunately, Vivian Campbell's exit in 1985 (after 3 successful albums) and the band getting a new line-up in 1990 hampered Dio's commercial fortunes.
Ronnie Dio briefly reunited w/ Black Sabbath in 1992, but quit in '93 after refusing to open for Ozzy Osbourne... He reformed Dio in '93, but the band's popularity had dropped significantly in the 90's grunge rock era... He continued to perform and record w/ Dio and saw the band's popularity rise again after 2000... He finally reunited w/ members of Black Sabbath in 2006, but chose to change the band name to Heaven and Hell (after the title of his 1980 album w/ Sabbath)
Sadly, Ronnie James Dio was diagnosed w/ colon cancer in 2009 and underwent treatment... He passed away in 2010, ending both Heaven and Hell, and Dio.
In 2023, his widow Wendy Dio released a documentary movie on him: "Dio: Dreamers never die"

This live at the spectrum ‘86 is insane it’s faster higher energy and as always Dio kills it. You should check out last in line, holy diver, and rainbow in the dark. Stargazer and gates of Babylon from when he was in rainbow and of course heaven and hell when he was in Black Sabbath. Dio was on another level and like Ozzy he alway had insane guitarist and drummers.
The whole album is FIRE! I actually got to meet the drummer on this album Vinny Appice a couple years ago. Such a great dude.

I have a suggestion for both of you. Listen to RJD live in concert. Dio has been singing since 1958 to his death in 2010 starting out singing 50's era Rock (Doo Wop) in singing groups 1st locally in the Northeast of US. Then in late 60's, Dio branched out more in harder Rock to Metal. Dio's singing was helped by his playing the trumpet when he was a kid to develop breath control.

Remember with older music, dont take whats said at face value. Many meanings hidden. Dont hide in doorways, dont spend ur life inside. Write in starlight, spells. Heaven is hell, vatican etc. Smell flowers, poppy plants/heroin. Dio means god in Italian. Album cover flipped upside down now read the dio...says devil.

I always think its cool that you're listening to some rock n' roll. I have a million songs to recommend but i know no one has infinite time.
Dio is a good choice though. Trained to sing operatically and died tragically. I think he was the lead in black sabbath before Ozzy took over. Way back in the 70s or early 80s.
