The "Red Rocker" really saved Van Halen after the departure of "Diamond Dave".
Dave was the showman but Sammy has the pipes. Damn what a voice.
Lifelong fan here of Van Halen. I'm 49 and I saw them in concert in August 1991. Amazing show and one I will never forget. And Sammy Hagar is my favorite singer. Long live Van Halen.
Saw them when I was 15 in 84' with Roth. Still have the Tshirt. Saw them again in 88' with Sammy for the 0U812 tour. Both amazing in their own right. Probably the most influential band to me growing up. I had a whole wall dedicated to VH. Filled with posters, album sleeves, bandanas, etc. Had every album. I'm now 53 and still listening. The loss of Eddie felt like a piece of me died with him. An amazing talent the likes we will never see again.
@@Gashouse69 , yes, I couldn't believe it when Eddie died. And then to have Neil Peart die in the same year was too much. I'm from northeast Ohio. Thanks for sharing.
Saw VH in 88 89 91... then I lost track haha
6 times for me. 3 with David and 3 with Sammy. First one was in '82 (my first concert!) Lifelong fan as well, Eddie being my all time favorite. Still can't believe he's gone.
I've been a fan from the beginning, I was 18 when these guys came on the scene, I'm 63 now...and I love both iterations of the band, Van Halen and Van Hagar, Rock ON!!!
This came out when I was 17. I'm 51 now. There was a house party with about 30 people sitting around listening to the album, an actual record. Those were good times.
I'm 58 and I remember going through the same thing when Pat Benatar released Crimes of Passion. Just a bunch of us teens and 20 somethings rocking out to the music of our generation. Beer and pizza, nothing got wrecked and we cleaned up before we left. Good times and good music.
You youngster! I was 18 when their first album came out!
Just turned 52 I was a DLR era fan but 5150 was a solid album..
Holy shit I was 17 also , I thought I was older when this came out
So good to have memories like these
One of the absolute best Van Halen songs, I love this one! Everything is perfect, music and voices, Sammy is stellar on this one.
Dammit! It's been over 2 years now and I still get all weepy when I see Eddie. Miss him so much. They were my first concert in '82 and he's been my favorite ever since.
I feel you buddy, he was my first real hero to pass away (other than my Grandpa)
He'll always be with us, just push play 🥲
Sammy Hagar has an incredible voice. One of the best in the biz.
Sammy is one of the top 5 rock vocalists of all time (ranks no. 5 behind Brad Delp, Brent Smith, Lou Gramm, and of course... Steve Perry).
@@pacard33 Your list missed Burton Cummings.
@@rossmacintosh5652 I LOVE Burton. He can be no. 6.
Almost as good as Roth’s
@@pacard33 How can you not mention Freddie Mercury.
wow goosebumps not just from the song but seeing eddie its soo sad that he's gone ...cherish everyday my friends
And he still has a great voice to this day!
As much as I love VH songs where Eddie's guitar shines, this one is definitely in my top 5 VH songs. The sound of the keys and those opening chords in "when it's love" always give me chills. I've been trying to get my cover band to learn this one... the hard part in doing this song justice is really the vocals. Sammy is on another level. He was absolutely the right choice to replace Dave.
Sammy was also the right choice as VH changed their style. Eddie's keyboards and Sammy's vocals compliment each other.
I loved his guitar solo on this...more precise as opposed to lightning fast.
Glad to see someone loves that intro and opening chords as much as i do 😄
It was all Eddie, the programming/creating of that sound, the writing of the intro chords and actually playing it on the album. The second thing i love is when it goes into the song that "sliding" chord Eddie does on the guitar up to the 2nd chord, it just gives it that unique sound. I've seen a lot of people trying to cover this, but get that part wrong... It's essential to the unique sound of this song
The "Sammy" era produced some really great tracks. Heard this song live at LA Coliseum years ago. A great moment....
The last 90 seconds of this song is one of my favorite windows down, volume up, sing at the top of my lungs songs....and Alex's drumming is superb
Damn it, Brad, you just get more perceptive and astute by the minute! It's glorious to hear you. 🙂
Hard to believe this song is almost 35 years old. I was introduced to VH in 1982 at the tender age of 10, and I saw them on this (the OU812) tour while in high school. Such a great show...and band.
Van Halen had two of the greatest rock singers ever!
I enjoy a little Van "Hagar" sometimes. This is one of my favorites by them.
The harmonies are unbelievable
So awesome that's all Mikey.
The harmonies are highly underrated on all their songs. It's just mostly that we all focus on Eddie and his guitar godlike talent and either Dave/Sammy singing. Those harmonies are what make just about every VH song click for me.
Nicest guy in R&R. 75 and still rocking hard
This is just a great song all the way around. Sammy showing why he's one the best singer/frontmen in rock. Love this song.
The production in this song is sooo good. Sammy's voice is incredible, Eddie's guitar, backup vocals...WOW!
I love Van Halen with David Lee Roth because that’s how I was introduced to the band and they had a slew of hits, but Van Hagar as we called them is amazing too. This is a great song!
So happy you guys FINALLY covered this song! One of VH best ballad songs, period! I knew you guys would love this one! Keep discovering VH…all eras of them!
Brad scores! "This is what i've been trying to tell you..." The emphasis, classic. I laughed so hard
I went to see Sammy & the Circle last month he still has it at 75!, Michael Anthony, Vic Johnson & Jason Bonham put on a hell of a show playing Vanhalen, Montrose and Sammy Hagar songs, every song was a classic. Opening act was Queensryche followed by George Thorogood who rocked the place.
When you have competent musicians in their own right whom have the advantage of being the children of famous musicians, I'm surprised people like Jason and Wolfgang haven't put together a 'supergroup' with others of the same 'heritage'.
So many great summers with VH. RIP Eddie and thanks.
The Red Rocker called in to front The mighty Van Halen. Rest in peace Eddie Van Halen. I loved watching you all in my youth. And Randy rhoads and Ozzy live 😍😎
What I love about watching the Van Halen videos from this time period, other than the great music, is that they are all getting along and having fun and it is reflected in their music.
Love both eras of Van Halen equally for different reasons; two completely different vibes, both kick ass!
The MIGHTY Van Halen! Great music, great vocals, and great harmonies.
Van Hagar, not Van Halen.
Love is like a plant. You have to nourish it. Like Clint Black says, “Love isn’t some place that you fall, it’s something that you do.”
His voice is incredible! Love this era of Van Halen!!
I got to see this tour when I was a teen. My friend & I made a banner (that was a thing in the 80's) with both Eddie & Sammy's guitars criss-crossed over a bog gold VH logo. My friend chucked it on stage. Sammy picked it up, showed the crowd, then laid it out beneath Alex's drum kit where it remained for the rest of the show. It was total fanboy validation.
This is a great song! Always a fan. Hagar brings the pipes on this one. straight from the gut.
This is such a great song from a great time. I am so happy to see how much y'all love it. I was a teenager and got to see VH on this tour at the Texxas Jam, Summer 1986. SO many excellent tracks on the 5150 album.
Wasn't this on 0U812?
@@cannedbudgetproductions9735you're right! I do love this song, tho. 😏😆 But 5150 is still my fave VH record with Sammy. I did also get to Monsters of Rock in 88 with Metallica and Dokken, the Scorpions, and Kingdom Come as well.
5150 is a really good record.
I never saw them with Sammy.
I did see the original lineup twice in 80 & 82.
My wife went to Monsters, and still has the shirt. 🙂
It's so much fun revisiting all this great music with B & L and the couch gang.
Keep on rocking, Lori!! 🤘🏼
The Eddie and Michael harmonies were always a part of the Van Halen special sauce !!
Loved when this song came out, hearing on the radio for the very first time, and love it still every time I hear it.
Van Hagar, one of the best rock voices ever
When It's Love 👏🎸🎹🎤👏🎸🎹🎤
You guys really need to check out Mammoth WVH "Don't Back Down" Official video. It is Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang, and he played every instrument on the album and recorded it himself. There are also videos of Wolfgang playing Van Halen's On Fire, Hot for Teacher, and Panama at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute concerts last month.
'Mammoth' of the same Mammoth VH album is my fave
@@princeofpcos9804 Several good ones on that album, and Wolf has already recorded drums and bass for the next album. Working on guitars now.
Michael Anthony underneath with those vocals , man . Not enough credit . Great reaction guys . In my late 20s when this was out and this is a part of my life’s soundtrack during that time
Agreed, the backing harmonies from him and Eddie don't get nearly enough credit.
And Michael Anthony one of the greatest backing vocalist ever roam the halls of rock and roll.
I don't think anything compares to being a teenager back during this time and having this music to listen to .... on the walkman during a run... or working out... driving around... hanging with friends... good, good shit.
As a diehard Van Halen fan … Lex gets its, and it’s sweet & awesome!
Love, love VanHagar!
I LOVE the discussion at the end, both of you make great points. Ultimately, I believe that true love does last forever, but anything even touching it will last in your memory filled (rightfully so) with nostalgia.
Unconditional love - IS FOREVER 🤟💛💯
Lex is so friggin' ADORABLE... mah gawd. She just kills me. Brad, you're so fortunate.
It took about 15 years for me to feel this way, but now I think Sammy is a good fit for Van Halen. So is dave. But man,it's really almost a different band!
Love this song. Saw them live in 95, awesome show, they were great.
Definitely BROUGHT back some memories!! RIP Eddie
Thank you for finally reacting to this song! Van Halen was my favorite band in high school and this album came out the day I graduated!
Great Sammy song. Killer vocals!!!! He’s no spring chicken even then!! Deserves more recognition!!
Yeah! Get that Van Hagar.
I love this song and Sammy's voice, one of the best songs ever RIP EDDIE ❤❤❤🇱🇷🇱🇷
God i wish i could go back to the 80s. I miss those times
Me too man! I'm 48....miss sammy in VH! My teen years....I miss the 80s! I watch or listen to 80s stuff everyday. Hate this world today...more fun positive vibe in 80s. VH was the fun of those times.....along with the hair bands.

If it's love...'it'll last forever'
Because you like being around it. You don't wanna be apart from it.
When it's looove 👏🏆💚💐 it's something you feel together I don't know but it lasts forever ♾️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🏆💚💚💚💐 ohh love 👏❤️❤️❤️
When it's love, you feel it forever, even when the one you love is no longer in your life. 😭
This is probably my favorite Classic Rock song.
0u812 had a cool sound guitar wise. Ed was using a Telecaster on a lot of the tunes. Including the solo for when it's love. A fantastic pop tune. 👌
When It's Love and Dance The Night Away...2 of my favs...
De las grandes baladas rock de la historia, impresionante tema
Hey guys what's up! Greetings from South florida! I was just watching a Van Halen documentary, when your video popped up. David Lee Roth was interviewing Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Really cool video. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
Loved there Humans Being song, but you can get lost in there songs for a long time. Great band and awesome to see Sammy hitting the scene still.
Over the years as I've listened to Van Halen you could hear a change in the music when in late 1983 the song " Jump " was released. Eddie started to dabble on the keyboards which added a layer to their sound. The song you just reviewed has grown on me to become my favorite Van Halen tune. I also loved their tune "Finish What You Started " which I would love to hear your thoughts. They are also the only group I know who cleverly named an album after a 4 letter " F " word.
1988....great yr. .. I was 13...Van Hagar 👍
Sammy is such a cool guy, and still can bring it today. He also has a show, where he interviews musicians, and then jams with them, and sounds great, playing their songs, whether he’s playing guitar or singing.
One of my favorite songs from Van Halen with Sammy Hagar, from OU812 that also went No.1 for best album, this made Van Halen at their absolute best, the Monsters of Rock tour in 1988 was awesome for the fans to watch (especially for being 9 hours long 5 bands performing and Van Halen closes the show). Keep bringing in more Van Halen songs Brad and Lex!
Eddie's guitar was called "Frankenstrat" I believe the 5150 ( Besides being the name of their studio and one of their albums) is from the guitar manufacturer for the reproductions.
This song reminds me of going to the state fair and riding the Tilt-A-Whirl and eating pronto pups all day when I was 8. Good times and a great pick
After David Lee Roth left, Eddie was getting a tune up on his Ferrari and asked the mechanic about the other nice Ferrari there, mechanic said it was Sammy Hagars and that ED should call him to join the band, and the rest is history, LUST IS A FEELING, LOVE IS A CHOICE ❤️
I get goosebumps every time I see that video !
One of the most romantic songs of all time. If you never felt love like this then I'm sorry
1984 and 5150 are both iconic albums released back to back with completely different lead singers.
I heard her mention something like the maybe the guitar is the “5150”.
Eddie’s signature guitar is called the “Frankinstrat” because he built it from several parts to get the sound he was looking for. He was experimenting long before others of his era.
5150 is the address of his studio for which he named an Album and a song after.
Brad and Alex, please check out their song Can’t Stop Loving You, one of my favorites, next to this one you just reacted to.
Nice comments. Great song. Love is like a plant that needs to be cultivated and taken care of. If we abuse or mistreat it, it will be damaged. At the same time as we grow and change through life's experiences we need to keep working on our love, cultivating and watering it, and not take each other for granted. Then it can last forever.
Love Van Halen no matter the incarnation/era
My favorite song by this great band
Love this Van Halen song - one of the best and quite different from some of their others. Thanks so much for posting!
Love grows. In a relationship both partners need to grow together.
I was eleven years old when this came out and will always Love this song, everything about, but mainly the emotions that it stirred in me. Will always be one of my favorite songs.
Summer between soph and junior year, this was only cassette played in my car. Full of confidence and chasing the ladies. Fast car and great mullet, good times.
WHEN IT'S LOVE
Van Halen has a very sick song called "Amsterdam"
This brings back some of the best memories of my life,At 57 years old and a guitarist for 45 of those years. I don't think we will ever see talent like this again I listen to everything and I just don't hear it R.I.P. Edward Van Halen,The band Van Halen one the G.O.A.T.'s
It’s got what it takes is a great song as well ❤
Sammy is a great singer and a hell of a nice person! He had a show on and you got to see his personality! Awesome!
I remember a critic at the time this song came out calling it "Whitney Houston with a chest wig"!! Bands like Van Halen, Queen, Bon Jovi and Extreme are/were always unapologetically themselves, and that's what gives them longevity and makes them friggin' awesome.
5150 such an iconic Van Halen album.
Yeah Sammy!!! VH keeps "redefining" their songwriting capabilities. So cool!!
Love love love this. Thank you
...and I always love the sound of Axel´s drums! That, is also "the Van Halen"-sound! 😍
Loved this song great vibes.
You need to listen to their song “Cabo Wabo”, plus “Finished What Ya Started”. Awesome songs! Both singers for Van Halen were awesome just different styles and I was fortunate enough to enjoy seeing Van Halen in concert 4 times. 2 times with Dave and 2 times with Sammy.
He is 75 and STILL has a great voice. The Circle's new album is outstanding. Crazy Times especially strong performance by Sammy.
Brad, thanks for being more animated than usual, bruh! Lex, love how you smiled at the progression changes, like at the bridge before the solo. Would LOVE for you guys to react to Van Halen's songs CABO WABO and SOURCE of INFECTION!!! Cabo is my all-time #1 VH song and if you listen to it, you will see why!
My favorite from high school 🤗❤️
Love watching Eddie Van Halen play guitar. Great Sammy vocals too. Van Halen was so talented!!!
Yes they were the good times😊
