Love this song. It was in a Power Rangers movie.
Wendy you are correct. This song was in a movie called Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie starring JDF, Karen Ashley, Amy Jo Johnson, Steve Cardenas, David Yost, Johnny Yong Bosch, Paul Schier, Jason Narvy, and Paul Freeman.
Sammy sang his ass off on this one. RIP Eddie. The GOAT.
You really should check „Right now” (from Sammy Hagar’s Van Halen era), the official video is just amazing. Great reaction👏🏻
Yeah. Great song and very good (typical 90s) clip. Works without it but is way better with the official video.
YES. YES. YES.
Not just to Right Now, which is a phenomenal song, but Brad... Lex... this is one you really should choose the official video for! It's brilliant and they won Video of the Yearat the MTV VMAs.
FUN FACT: Sammy hated the concept. HATED IT! And it shows! And doesn't hurt the quality one bit. In fact, it's fun seeing him be moody when you know it was real AF!
I agree. VanHagar years were the best! 🤣👍🎸
Ya. Brad won't need the lyrics for Right here right now. Just watch the video
Why would he wanna listen to bad pop songs?
Brad & Lex, this was from the first Van Halen album where Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth as lead vocalist. That's why it sounds different
That's not why it sounds different to them, they've reacted to Van Hagar before. It sounds different because, as Brad said, it's a softer side of the group, a power ballad. Very different from the pure rocker Van Hagar song, "Poundcake", they recently reacted to.
Not a power ballad but inspirational
@@Cosmo-Kramer The softer side of Van Halen indeed-- and not intended as shade, but a more mature Van Halen by then, too. Eddie wanted to stretch his musical wings, and Sammy came along and said "Do it, man!", and 5150 happened, and the rest is history.
Van Halen was always pretty diverse, but starting with 5150, they really started covering a LOT of new musical territory.
This song in particular is probably my favorite inspirational Van Halen song. It's not about love between two people so much-- it's more about having hope and not giving up on your dreams, even when things are tough-- look to your dreams for inspiration and motivation. Song makes me smile every time I hear it.
That and heavy synth sound in mid 80's
@@woodch It's my favorite Van Hagar song. Especially when listened to while watching the video (the original one) of the Blue Angels flying.
Too bad you didn't play the official video of this featuring the Blue Angels, Cool video.
Nah the video sucked, had nothing to do with Van Halen and did not reflect the true meaning of the song..A bunch of planes don't reflect the intimate personal feel of aspiration, hopes, dreams and romance .
Cheers 🍻
@@trollgoodman7808 You have the perfect handle. Cheers.
@@metalmark1214 Thank you but I know that you know that I'm 110% correct.
@@trollgoodman7808 Good your correct. You get a cookie.

Brings me back to high school and everyone anticipating this album to see what Van Halen sounded like with Sammy. When it dropped, there were a lot of different reactions, but overall most people liked it. Still had a lot of people loyal to Dave though. Great times.
I didn't think Why Can't This Be Love was the right track to drop first. Just imo. I didn't do a spit take w/ my Cherry 7Up, but still thought it was a song w/ bass that sounded synthy that most people thought was Eddie instead of Mike.
My take on the Dave vs Sammy argument is that you can like both.
All their music is great with both front men. And the 🐐 in my opinion on guitar.Sammy Hagar the red rocker, was a great fit after the loss of David from the band.
Van Halen was one of those bands that you cranked at a house party after everyone had a few beers in them. But after Sally Hagar joined, it sure didn't sound like Van Halen anymore. She was cute and all, screeching out all those high-pitched love ballads... but most people I know longed for Dave's return.
I guess 5150 got decent radio play, but it just failed in every way possible as party music. Sadly, Van Halen just kinda faded from rock-god status, and melded themselves into the 1980's hair-band pop culture.
Class of 1988 here yes and my thought DLR era is and was better…that being said this was their album with Sammy
The video for this song featuring the the Blue Angels is amazing.
You really should watch the video of the Blue Angels with this playing in the background. To say it's mesmerizing is an understatement.
You are correct sir!
Totally agree!
As an 80s baby this is the only way to experience this song
You guys are funny.
You beat me to this comment 😂
Ed showing he was more than a guitar player, he was a composer and classically trained piano player. As well as Alex his brother.
Gotta admit, Sammy had some pipes on that album.
He's always could sing bar none
Love him
Great album, had many hits with Sammy. Was referred to as Van Hagar.
It was never called Van Hagar except by people upset Dave was gone. It has always been Van Halen
@@rileyandmike everyone I knew including me called it van hagar because we liked Sam more
@@celebrityinhiding4938 well, fortunately Eddie was the leader and didn’t change the name - VAN HALEN. Sammy is a much better singer and just as wild on stage; but less wild off
I heard them called that plenty of times but I never liked it and it never crossed my lips. To me they were still Van Halen and still great, just a little different. Having said that, though, all in all I prefer the older stuff with DLR.
I liked Van Hagar well enough, but it was just not _real_ Van Halen to me without Diamond Dave. =)
VANHAGAR!!!! ALL day and twice on Sunday
When your in the right mood nothing scratches the itch like Van Hagar!
"Why Can't This Be Love" next please...such an awesome song!!
Summer Nights
Agree...so many more great ones still to go
Definitely gotta do When it's love or human beings Eddie's most powerful solos .
Gotta disagree. Not a great song. Very pop radio friendly, but not a great VH tune.
@@rickdobmeier6871 with humans being from the twister soundtrack they should poke a peak of Respect the wind. In was playing durring the ending credits on twister. Probably the most powerful instrumental EVH has done, there's no singing but you gotta listen to it. RIP EVH
This is a power ballad. It was used in the closing credits of the Power Ranger movie: Secret of the Ooze.
That is correct my man. This was at the end of the MMPR movie when the Rangers were celebrating their victory to save the citizens of Angel Grove.
This was my class song when I graduated. The official video is footage of the Navy’s Blue Angels precision flying team, and the city I grew up in has a Navy base where the Blue Angels fly every year, and probably half the kids in school had a parent in the Navy, so it worked on several levels for us.
I can smell the jet exhaust and my eyes are stinging reading this.
@@raandyy Smells like winning.
Ready to have your mind blown? The song, "Right Now" which was featured on the Sammy Hagar era of VH album, "OU812", was written in 1983 shortly after the VH album, "Diver Down" was released. Ed was already exploring a new direction for their music, even back then when Dave was still a member of this incredible band. Imagine pre, "1984" and "Right Now" was already on tape sitting inside 5150. We were all lucky to live in a time period on earth that Edward Van Halen existed. He is truly missed. Dreams is a great song. Both eras were absolutely incredible.
Right Now is on For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge not OU812
Dreams is about picking yourself up, and going for achieving the visions in your mind and heart, when people tell you that you can't or won't. Sammy said he was inspired by Eddie's opening keyboard riff to write the song, because he needed to up his songwriting, as he was now in a band with someone who upped his musicianship. One of the 80s most inspiring songs, and one of my absolute favorites from the mighty Van Halen.
Couldn't have put it better. This song-- it's not a love song, it's not a ballad, it's not political. It's just a message about not giving up on your dreams and letting them inspire you, even when things are tough. It's one of those "Feel Good" songs (coincidently, the next song like this from VH was "Feels So Good" from OU812) from this era that seem all too rare these days.
I'm 57 this is my Van Halen, but any van halen is amazing
That's what fans refer to as Van Hagar. (when lead singer David Lee Roth was replaced by Sammy Hagar) Eddie and David Lee Roth weren't getting along after their hit album 1984, so they auditioned new singers and the band picked Sammy Hagar, and then released the album 5150 in 1986. This was the 2nd single released. Why Can't this Be Love, Love Comes Walkin' In, and Summer Nights were some other great songs form the album. They changed their style a bit with Hagar as he worked a lot with Eddie on writing the songs.
Masterpiece of a song.
5150 one the best albums ever! VanHalen & Sammy Hagar! The bet lead singer they had, imo. Diamond Dave was a great showman but Sammy had the chops to sing anything.
Agree 100%
100%
Calling Dave a singer is a stretch. Listen to his isolated vocals and remember that he had to do a line at a time and punch them in to even get it sound as bad as it does😂.
GOD I LOVE THIS THREAD OF FHE COMMENTS!!
Yeah. Sammy for me. I love the early albums but Dave was pretty bad live, vocally. Too focused on "putting on a show," and just didn't have the chops.
Anyway. God I love this band!
Completely agree
The original music video was to the Navy Blue Angels! You guys will love Right Now! A must reaction song!!
Not Enough & Love Walks In
This is their first album after David Lee Roth. It's the first album that was really done just by Eddie and Don Landee. Eddie always liked playing keyboards, but Roth always complained about how un rock n roll it was. He had to pull teeth to record the song Jump. So this was the album where Eddie got to really do the keyboard songs he always wanted to do instead of just playing guitar.
Also probably one of the hardest VH songs to sing because the range is so damn high up there.
Oddly you mention the hard to sing song, but it is crazy as a lot of people said I sounded like Hagar when I'd sing his songs including this one. Dave was more challenging for me to sound like as his was just a very different vocal sound. Probably why Dave's voice is shot now while Hagar still can sing pretty good.
Sammy Hagar was a huge rock star & great guitar player, prior to Van Hagar. Eddie loved he could do keyboards because Sammy could play guitar. Not as good as Eddie & he admits it.
When Eddie took to the keyboards. He, in fact, was a well trained classical pianist as a child. He never could read music either! He faked it with his teachers!
This is the type of that song you would hear in very late 80s movie about hockey
Both versions of VH created great music.
I don't understand why some people can't accept that some other people like both versions. They are both great. And if they had never changed well...then they'd just be plain old generic AC/DC.
(yep, I said it. If you have one AC/DC album, you have every AC/DC album)
This came out when I was in sixth grade, and has always been one of my favorites. Plus, I'm a lifelong Van Halen fan, grew up on them. Hello from northeast Ohio.
NILES OHIO!!!!!!!!
One day , the most underrated band in music history, Big Wreck will make an appearance on this channel.
Probably one the best songs I've ever heard only close to this in my mind is love walks in
There's no better 80s anthem than this song. You just can't help smiling and rocking along to this one :)
When Sammy came along, it was almost an entirely different band. A lot of people feel like they have to choose between David or Sammy era. I just see them as two different bands and enjoy both the same.
Correct! When it first happened yeah half our neighborhood was split and I chose to Dave side, but secretly liked the Hagar albums as well because I loved Sammy's solo work. Was happy Sammy took iver after Dave left. Dave's solo stuff was good as well.
Sammy brought the band where Ed wanted to take it
I had this album blasting last night. For all the trash talking between both the Hagar and Roth Van Halen eras I have to say…….both put out quality tunes…..just different.
While I prefer the Roth era, this album is strangely underrated by the critics at large. The only real dud is the last thing, "Inside". The rest of the songs are great, even the poppy songs that I've never liked (like this one). "1984" sucks all the oxygen, but this record is basically just as good. I think 1984, 5150, and OU812 constitute a distinct era, despite the first one having a different singer. Very ornate 80s pop with occasional blistering rockers. The VH records before and after don't have quite the same mix.
@@classiclife7204 I was also listening to Balance last night. Although not a huge success it has a few great songs in it that leaned to the heavier side than the previous few albums for sure. No matter what……you just can’t go wrong with some VH !!!
But all the music was written by Eddie, this is what he wanted
Van Halen - Humans Being. One of their best that gets forgot about IMO
Featured on the Twister soundtrack, which is actually a pretty damn good soundtrack.
The music video with the Blue Angels footage really lifts this song to a higher level
Lol! Richard Simmons in his short shorts doing aerobics to this song.
👀Lex looking stellar
🌹🤘💀👍
The Hagar era has many of my favorite tracks. This one, Love Walks In, Top of the World, Right Now, When It's Love, Why Can't This Be Love (they had a lot of songs with love in the title), Summer Nights, Black and Blue and Finish What Ya Started are all great.
One of Van Halen's greatest songs by far is (Take Your Whiskey Home)
This song was at the very end of original power rangers movie. That’s when I first heard it as a kid in the 90s. Fantastic song!
GunnerJay16, that is ✅ my friend. How old were you when this song came out
I like both VH. To me Roth was high school and Sammy was my 20’s. Both were great
Older Van Halen fans were not enthusiastic when the band announced that original singer David Lee Roth had left the band in 1985... but Eddie Van Halen (guitar) had been experimenting w/ keyboards & synthesizers in his studio. The success of keyboard-oriented VH songs like 'Jump' and "I'll wait" inspired Eddie to write more in that direction... but Roth was increasingly frustrated and unhappy w/ that musical direction. David Lee Roth released a solo EP in '85 and had aspirations (movies & music) outside of Van Halen, which led to the split that year.
A chance phone call w/ solo singer Sammy Hagar got Eddie Van Halen to persuade the veteran rocker to visit Eddie's studio, where he played Hagar his new music... Sammy Hagar was not looking to join Van Halen at the time, but he said he was blown away by the music Eddie was writing and added his lyrics and vocal melodies; after hearing the songs he had finished... he agreed to join Van Halen.
The 1986 album was titled '5150' and it went to #1 on the US charts... outselling David Lee Roth's solo album "Eat 'em and smile"... Sammy Hagar admitted that Eddie Van Halen was as good as any keyboard player he had worked with, and the music was incredible in his opinion. The '5150' record and the 'OU812' Van Halen albums were very keyboard-oriented, compared to guitar-heavy VH records w/ Roth on vocals... but Hagar encouraged Eddie to work on music he felt passionate about. One track from 1988 was a country-style tune "Finish what ya started" which Hagar played guitar on... Van Halen would return to their guitar-heavy roots on their 1991 album 'For unlawful carnal knowledge'.
More Van Halen please!!
VH definitely had a different sound with Sammy Hagar as the lead. He brought a new dimension to the band. Be sure to check out Best of Both Worlds, it's a great mix of the old and new eras.
Not just what Sammy brought - WHICH WAS A LOT - but what he enabled Eddie to do.
It's funny how so many lay the Sammy era sound to Sammy, but this is where Eddie was musically at the time.
God I love this band!
Heavy synth sound was major factor too haha
Best of Both worlds is my favorite song on that album.
I love listening to this song on the way to work. It makes me feel inspired for the day working with kids.
Loved Van Hagar! And love the video with ❤Blue Angels❤
Fun fact, Dreams was the Blue Angels theme song.
Best Van Halen songs from this era were… Cabo wabo, summer nights, pound cake, and love walks in!!!
This was during the Van Hagar period after Dave left the band. Most of their songs during this time were very power ballad and almost poppy.
Ummm rlly only half of them. What about Summer Nights, Best of Both Worlds, Get Up, Good Enough, Naturally Wired, Black and Blue, Poundcake, Dont Tell Me What Love Can Do… there are many more…
The thing is the record company and the radio stations always pushed the pop songs so when people think of the Hagar era that’s all they think
VAN HALEN- why can’t this be love
This takes me right back to my days in high school. Makes me miss those days.
Love when people do Van Hagar
Always great reactions. This was a second phase of Van Halen. They collaborated with a new lead singer named Sammy Hagar.
“... The Van Halen brothers learned to play the piano as children starting at the age of six. They commuted from Pasadena to San Pedro to study with an elderly man, Stasys (Stanley) Kalvaitis who taught them classical piano. Although they hated the commute, they continued as their mother would discipline them if they refused to go. Van Halen revealed in an interview that he never could read the music. Instead, he learned from watching and listening. During recitals of Bach or Mozart, he would simply wing it. From 1964 through 1967, Edward won first place in the annual piano competition held at Long Beach City College. Afterward, the judges would comment that he had an interesting interpretation of the classical piece. Van Halen’s view was, “What? I thought I was playing it correctly!” So Eddis was born in 1955, meaning that he was competing from age 9 to 13 on Piano and winning... keyboards weren't an afterthought to him and , to me, it kind of explains why it was natural to him to bring his right hand to the neck and start tapping notes that he couldn't reach with his (already busy) left hand. That's what you DO on a piano.
Takes me back to the Power Rangers movie when this song was featured at the end of it when my eldest son used to watch it all the time!!! Love it...
Phucken that is correct my dude.
Why Can't This Be Love!!!!!!
You should listen to Humans Being. This song was featured in the movie Twister. Eddie absolutely shreds the guitar and Sammy’s vocals take you to another dimension!! Keep rockin’
It's been over a year now and it still tears me up to think that Eddie is gone 😢 VH was my first concert back in '82 and he's been my favorite ever since.
such a good perception at the difference between Dave and Sammy!!! You nailed it!!! I love them both
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen
Back then Music was going through "Changes" and if you didn't roll with them....then you were Rolled Over!! With the Addition of the Red Rocker Van Halen I feel added more Complexity to Their Music that Redefined them as The Best All Around Rock Group!! ❤️❤️❤️ Them!! Eddy was an AMAZING INSPIRATION to sooooo Many people!! Miss Him Dearly!! 😭😭
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! LEX's big heart showing.
what a fantastic voice sammy has!
This song was used by the U.S.Navy's Blue Angels in demonstration flights at shows when this song came out. It is about your aspirations, what you want to reach out and attain.
This was the first album with Sammy Haggar as the singer and yes it was a different sound, but it was good and fresh. I still remember hearing this album for the first time.
In an interview with David Lee Roth he says his music with VH was about having relationships with no commitment / connection, "Aint talking about love". VH with Sammy was about connecting with someone you love, "This could be love"
The music video for this was so cool. Remember being like 12 & watching the Blue Angel's flying all around to this song. So cool. Great song too
Absolutely adore this song
Eddie was wanting to do Keyboard songs and David said no, our fans want guitars. So when he left and Sammy jumped in, he was willing to do whatever. Try Love Walks In.
Sammy was also in a contract with Van Halen and wasn't supposed to be strengthening his own agenda, which clashed with executives at the music label. HE was the end of Van Halen, just like Yoko Ono was the end of the Beatles.
The crazy thing about Van Hagar was how uplifting the music was.
omg...got goosebumps and tears welled up thinking of Eddie being gone....but it still put a smile on my face.
My favorite Van Hagar song! Pumps me up every time!
I saw Van Halen with Sammy Hagar on the this tour in 1986, BTO opened for them. This was a great show that I will always remember as an eighteen year old.
When my mom started working out to Van Hagar in our living room in the mid 80s, it was pretty obvious to my teen self that they weren't that cool anymore
At the time I thought that Eddie wanted to show everyone he could write perfect pop songs. The pop nature of this album was a bit of shock to me when it came out, I still played it to death though.
This is my favorite Van Halen song. So uplifting and positive!!!!!!!
Gotta watch the official video with this song. Really makes the song special.
Van Hagar for life!
Love the video for this one. The Blue Angels are amazing!!!
Love this song ❤❤❤
Yeah mid 80s Van Halen had a cool unique rock sound, utiliziling other intrumental arrangments. Try Love Walks In y'all!
Totally different feeling from David to Sammy Hagar but I love them both ❤️ David lee Roth was more fun to watch but I love Sammy’s vocals
" Top of the world" is a must
Damn you need to watch the video with Blue Angels. Its iconic.
The Official Theme Song for The Blue Angels.
This album was the first Van Halen album to hit number 1 on billboards top chart. The album was called 5150 a California police code.
This, along with "God Bless The USA", were played after our final FTX and ruck march in Basic Training.
My girlfriend miscarried a little over a year ago. Nothing I did or said would help her feel better that day. Then I got the idea to play this song. So I asked her if she wanted to go for a car ride, we got in, I played this song. And she kept replaying it. It helped her get through it. It’s a very emotional song and inspirational song. It means a lot to her, she plays it more often than not when she feels down.
DLR said it himself, his VH era is all about "Running with the devil" while Sammy Hagar's era is all about "Love walks in". There's a reason why my TOP2 favorite bands are Van Halen and Van Halen ;)
So true
Van halen &
Van hagar.....
Both awesome
Plus you can like both Sammy n Daves solo work lol
@@davidleeroth784 Hellyeah, Sammy just told me that in person the other day LOL ;)
I remember listening to this as a drunk under age teen in my cousins truck at a party. He had a killer car stereo. The song hits different when it's cranked up and the drum breaks in the chorus hit you in the chest.
Loved it, a great motivational rock songs, Dreams and Right Now are probably my favorites with Sammy.
Sammy Hagar taking over on lead vocals had a very successful career before VH, that particular song has been used for motivational training as it has such an uplifting sound to it.
Beautiful, wonderful, fantastic song.
Sammy is ALL about the love songs. That was one of the biggest shifts when he took over. DLR was gritty, funny, etc. Sammy, just about every song is about love :)
I remember this was a song on one of the Guitar Hero games. It's so immersive to play this while listening to it.
R i p the legend Eddy van halen🎸🎸🎸🎸from Sweden Sweden
I personally love Lex's "lovey, dovey" description of the song when it first started. 😂 As Brad related, this was a "softer" sound for Van Halen, but the song Jump was a prelude of things to come. As a keyboardist, I love that fat analogue Oberheim synth sound.
Saw VH with DLR & Sammy a few years apart. Both were outstanding. Always found the who was better than who argument silly.
The song was used for the Blue Angels the flying jets that was their theme song which is in the video which would have been cool for you to watch the video as well thank you that's one of my songs guys have a great one keep on rocking
I remember when this album came out. Many Van Halen fans hated the new synth sound in the album. I personally liked both David Lee Roth's and Sammy Hagar's Van Halen.
Yeah I wasn’t that into back when it came out on first listen. After giving it a chance I like a lot of Sammy stuff but prefer Roth.
Same
.loved both just Dave slightly more lol
