RIP Eddie....such a talented guitarist.....one of a kind.
Will never be another like him. Hope he's rocking that great gig in the sky.
Rocking with the best... Neil peart on drums and Dimebag on back up guitar
@@frogmanwade oh s..t!!!
Jimmy Page: Im gonna use a violin bow on my guitar.
Eddie Van Halen: Hold my drill bits.
Lmao!😄
Fffffing....Hilarious
Don't forget about Paul Gilbert, he used the electric drill on a commercial for Musicians Institute here is the link:
ua-cam.com/video/h375_VGUSGg/v-deo.html
a lot of times this performance was faked tho. obv it would ruin the strings sometimes. I believed Eddie did this in recording but live its too risky.
Best comment 🥇🎖🏆. Lmfao 🤣
Can we acknowledge the great bass playing by Mr. Micheal Anthony. All four albums with Sammy were stellar.
He just shreds the bass. And his back up vocals? Just spot on
I saw Van Halen, Bon Jovi, and Aerosmith. Nobody, no....BODY, comes close to touching what Van Halen were live back then. I've seen everybody, but nobody lifted you up off the ground like Van Halen did. The good vibes poured off the stage like a tidal wave. It was the sound and experience of pure joy.
Eddie is making impossible guitar techniques look easy. That smile is his charm.
Everyone else had a frown on their face before him
I guess we found out that Lex likes power tools, lol. Fun song guys, even Brad liked it!! We know Brad likes it organic.
Yeah that’s awesome! LoL 😂
Van Halen music always uplifting and happy, never no sad songs
I saw VH in concert and they opened with this song . I enjoy your reactions. Best wishes to you both !!
Once you went to a Van Halen concert you wanted to go every time they came to your area!
R. I. P. Eddie Van Halen, a legend!!!
Amen
Van Halen & Motley Crue were always great shows!
“Don’t need basketballs in your pants”. You nailed it, Brad!
This is the 2nd singer Sammy Hagar a Damn good solo artist before he joined Van Halen when original singer David Lee Roth left for a solo career. Many Van Halen fans all over FB pages have split devotion from the Original VH to the Van Hagar(as it is called) years. Personally I was happy Sammy joined, so my fave band could continue. Yes, the orginal lineup with DLR is my fave(as my user name shows), but Hagar was perfect. He brought his legion of fans to VH if they weren't already VH fans. Dave did pretty good as a solo artist for his first 3 albums and you need to do some of his. Keep reacting. You 2 are the best!
..I could not have said it better...2 different bands excellent bands with a common nucleus(Eddie)...VH3 was also not a bad album...Also don't forget "DLR Band", featuring John#5. A lot of fun tracks that had a VH vibe...Let me sketch a quick family tree :VH 1, VH2, VH Women and Children First, VH Fair Warning, VH Diverdown, Then VH 1984, Then DLR "Crazy from the Heat",Then VH 5150...Then DLR "Eat em and Smile"..then VH 0U812 , then DLR "Skyscraper", then VH " For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge", then DLR "Little Aint Enough", then VH'Balance", then DLR "Your Filthy Little Mouth", then VH 3...then DLR Band...whew! that is a ton of excellent music and musicians! Eddie, Alex ,Michael Anthony,Steve Vai, Jason Becker, John # 5, Billy Sheehan, Gregg Bissonette, Sammy Hagar , Gary Cherone...I cant name em all...now we have Wolfgang to keep it all alive in a different time and culture...but an incredible amount of fun and excellent music was made because Eddie, Alex and Dave got together back in 1974
People say do you like David Lee Roth or Sammy Haggar... my answer to that question is always, I prefer Eddie!!! He was always there, and made Van Halen, RIP EDDIE VAN HALEN!!!!
I like both. Diamond Dave had the energy and personality that was perfect for a young and upcoming band trying to conquer the world. Sammy was a better singer and writer and was perfect for a mature Van Halen that may have run out of steam had they continued with DLR.
I loved all the iterations of VH. Each singer provided something different.
@@raymo6795 nice take on it and thanks for writing that. John 5 and Slipknot singer did a great Take your wisky home cover.
Saw van halen many times in concert, With Dave and Sammy both. One hell of a performance from the whole band. Eddie was one of a kind, there will Never be another Eddie Van Halen! RIP Goat.
The concert to support this song was fantastic … one of their best. Was chased by the cops out of the Minneapolis parking lot - will never forget that!!
I ❤ Sammy Hagar as lead singer! Check out "Dreams" & "Why Can't This Be Love".
His solo song "I Can't Drive 55" is such a huge part of pop culture. We've all said those words at some point since the song!
...and he can still sing, DLR can not
@@raymo6795 Did you read, I think it was last week, he tried to take credit for being the one to design Eddie's guitar into Frankenstein? Ray. I just can't even. A historian came out and chronicled a timeline of events to show he is a million percent not being truthful. 🙄
On the POSITIVE - do you remember the video for "Dreams"? It has the Blue Angels flying all over doing a show. Felt like all "Top Gun-ish". That's when I started my "I think I wanted to join the Navy & be a Blue Angel" phase. 🤣 Great song!
@@jennhurl …DLR could never be accused of being humble 😉…Happy Holidays Jen
....but Sammy never worse assless chaps on stage, I guess he is ashamed of his posterior?
@@pulsarlights2825 ..some things better left unseen
The greatest band ever . The goat of modern rock and roll . The most influential guitarist since Jimmy Hendrix
One of VH’s last commercial hits but probably my favorite.
I don't know what it is but watching your channel makes me smile and that's all that matters. Thank you 🤗
I was fortunate enough to see them on the tour that clip was recorded on. They put on an amazing show.
Big Mike just crushing the bass on this tune.
Great song. Good times
Greatest guitarist to ever walk the earth.
Easy now...
The version from the 1991 VMAs rules too!
Edit: check out "Runaround" and "Right Now" from the "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" album
Top of the World is great too
That’s a great album up and down.
The bass line in this song is incredible
Brad & Lex, the record was titled For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. These guys always stuck to a theme :). This came out when I was in the 2nd grade... back when I was hot for teacher... Lol. No track off that record was dirtier than "Spanked" which my dad always skipped...
I always think, the thing that made EVH's playing really special, in addition to his speed and technique, was his confidence and conviction
Eddie had incredible natural talent and plenty of classical piano training to go with his innovation; in my view, Eddie's brilliance was always bolstered by his nigh-obsessive approach to practice. I've heard some unpublished studio tapes (the footage went up on UA-cam, and you may be able to take a listen as well)...and the guy just...man, he just worked over riffs and riff ideas and scales the whole time. Apparently Eddie would do that for upwards of fourteen hours a day between album recordings and shows while in the 5150 studio.
I once had the idea that I would try to play like Eddie. Once I found out about his practice habits, I knew I'd never be able to play like Eddie. I can't be that focused for that long for days and weeks and even months on end. This is also what separates Eddie from damn near every copycat: none of them would ever be able to put in the practice time Eddie did.
Brad and Lex: Awesome to catch your reaction to this tune, and as mentioned elsewhere in the comments, I'd recommend Top of the World, Right Now, and Runaround. The music videos for Right Now and Runaround are good stuff, and the live version of Top of the World is perhaps the best song to end a show with.
Van Halen......wow...... incredibile performance.......this tour was incredibile.....i saw the band in Rome....(i'm Italian)....what a Great night....what a honor, listen king Eddie plays his Guitar......
Van Haven is by far my favorite rock band! I can’t believe Eddie is gone.😢
RIP Eddie Van Halen
Next in line Ozzy!!
It was a huge loss for us 80s rockers
@@erichinterschied8174
It sure was. He left us way too soon. I also read the other day that Valerie Bertinelli split from her second husband after Eddie passed. I think she was still in love with him. I read she was by his bedside every day.
I guess we don’t know if this is all true, but I always felt like they still loved each other.
I wonder if VH will ever do anything ever again? I’m not even sure who VH is anymore.
I know Alex is VH. Other than that, I couldn’t tell you.
@@aks4204 Alex is Van Halen and is all alone in that aspect. Mike Anthony is still in "The Circle" with Sammy Hagar. I love me some Van Halen but I feel that any type of reunion and/or new music would just be wrong without Eddie.
@@kaidenorgana5151
Yes we still have Alex & he is amazing on the drums. I’ve always felt bad for him. He never gets mentioned like the rest of the group, & he’s a VH. Eddie dying must have ripped his heart into tiny pieces. Eddie was his brother, his best friend, & one of the guys in the band.
Now Sammy,
I never really considered Sammy as a VH band member. I couldn’t get beyond Dave being gone. I always considered him as Van Hagar. That said, Sammy did a mighty fine job taking over for Dave. He also has a better voice, but just wasn’t Dave. Now, even if Dave had the chance to come back….. his voice now sounds like shit!
I saw him on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (I think. If not Fallon, it was Jimmy Kimmel).
Man did he sound like shit! I don’t think he could do the job anymore. There is no way he could perform live. His voice is just shot. Maybe if he did studio work they could make his voice sound okay. Idk 🤷♀️
I can’t imagine them putting out more music, but not touring. That would truly suck.
Then there’s Wolfie.
That poor kid, I don’t even know if he would want to be a part of VH. I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to, but it may hurt too much for him to be a permanent member. Again, Idk 🤷♀️ He also is moving in his own direction & doing quite well. His album did great. He may want to do the solo thing from now on.
Sadly I think VH may be done with. How sad is that! 😩
Well, this is just my opinion. Who knows what can happen. I would love to see them continue, but don’t know if it’s possible.
Oh and Michael Anthony. He was amazing too. His bass & backup singing was amazing. I think he was just a big jerk for leaving the band. He would never have balls enough to do that without Sammy. I hope if VH carries on, they keep Wolfie & keep Michael Anthony out. Again, this is just my opinion and I’m sticking to it. LoL 😂
Now it’s your turn Kaiden. What do you think is going to happen?
Mike Kean, what do you think?
@Michael Renne yeah I think you’re right. That too breaks my heart. We have lost so many in the last few years.
It’s so sad.
The pickups on a guitar are essentially microphones. My old band used to use a cell phone ringing through the pickups in a song.
YES!!!! Love all van Halen Sammy still very very entertaining! Still performing Live too!!!! Great show!
Yes your right girl. Just pure rock and roll is fun. No metal stuff but fun loving rock music. That's what rock and roll is all about, summer time electrifying fun. Cheers!
I’m with you Brad! I like it home-grown! 😂😂
I saw Van Halen twice in concert.... so good!
Brad & Lex: home-grown, down-home, always pure and authentic. This might be my favorite reaction from you guys.
Eddie was the Beethoven and Mozart of lead guitars.
RIP Eddie. Rust zacht Eddie! (Dutch). My favorite guitarist!
R.I.P. LEGEND EDDIE VAN HALEN!!!! 🤘😎🤘
Essentially, the little silver rectangles underneath the strings on the body of the guitar are microphones; they're called "pickups." They're designed to amplify the sound of the strings, but will amplify anything that is happening in the vicinity, including a power drill (in this instance). What you're hearing is the result of a power drill amplified through Eddie's guitar pedals and amplifier stacks. It's a pretty cool opening and a great example of Eddie's "out of the box" thinking when it came to guitar playing.
Van Halen, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. Saw all 3 live in the 80s!! Great times.
I was at this concert when they were filming it, was in ‘91 , filmed two shows in two day, sold out both days in Fresno California. . Was awesome. 🎸
Ahh yes....., thanks Brad & Lex .....
my fav!! A lil VH is good for ya!!!
Idk how he did it but i know how to play the whole song except that, i brought my drill in the house and scared the hell out of everyone when it sounded like thehouse was exploding lol.
Real quick you guys, how sick is the baseline in this song! And of course Eddie's riffs, solo and that bridge breakdown are magic.
The drill came about by chance. Eddie was in his 5150 studio playing while a soundtech worker was there. Eddie saw the tech's drill on the floor and got curious: how would the power tool sound going through the guitar's pickups? So, he picked up the drill and tried it. And that's that. He incorporated it into the tune that became 'Poundcake'.
They call them the mighty Van Halen for a reason.
Yay, Poundcake is one of my fav Van Halen songs
Eddie was an amazing innovator when it came to the guitar and creating his own sounds! RIP Eddie
Wow, it just hit me that I'm never going to see them in concert again! F'n Bummed!
Love when Lex does her little clap
Van Halen was just so refreshing in the day.
I love a behind that looks like an upside down heart. I've seen Van Halen 3 times. '82, 84 and '86.
Saw them twice..... everything you'd want in a concert...
Doing a drill against the pickup, AS A NOTE, in the middle of the solo. WOW.
The drill was a brief innovation in guitar in the early 90s. It happened a bit for 2-3 years. A band called Mr. Big had an Electric Drill Song.
Rest in powerEdward Van Halen !
I agree with Brad with like them Poundcakes natural 🤣👌
Love how Michael holds it down on the bass, so solid!!
Been one of my favorite VH songs since it came out.
Diamond Dave was the classic Rock frontman. Sammy was a true vocalist. Love both sides of VH! Rip Eddie 💔
Van Halen: best live Band ever!!
This might be one of my favorite reactions. I laughed so hard at the end. These two are hilarious and Lex is so f’ng cute!!
Few things in life could beat going to a Van Halen concert with a really cool rocker chick.
I love how Lex was bee-boppin and lovin this song! I thinks she likes her some Van Halen. Lol
For a better representation of the drill sound do the studio version. Only Ed would think of something like that…Genius!!!
Don't you think he maybe got the idea for the drill from Paul Gilbert (Racer X) ?
Also, check out Daddy, brother, lover, little boy from Mr. Big. It's Paul Gilbert getting Billy Sheehan to join in on bass with the cordless drill too.
@@jomojojo6603 actually Racer X and Mr Big actually put a pick on the drill and used it for speed picking, whereas Eddie discovered the pickup getting interference/hum when the power drill was near the pickup, so it's just the drill noise being amplified, not actually touching the string like in the other case.
Yes, I know. that's why I said "got the idea" and I didn't say "ripped off"
@@joelhammond4162 here we go,,, wonder who thunk up a electric .?pickup
WVH went on tour this year. There is a video he did where he actually played all the instruments and sang. He inherited Mammoth from dad.
He's his own thing but he'll get better, crap he's good now.
He IS good now.....good genes......the only thing he needs to do is stop worrying about what other people think.
Michael Anthony's Bass is driving force on this song.
Lex, I saw Van Halen in 84 & 86, Bon Jovi in 88, and Aerosmith in 87 and all were excellent live shows !!!!!!!!!!
Great job on this reaction video! I was fortunate to see this tour live! Van Halen is just so much fun! You see it in Eddie's smile and the energy from the band! Love your channel, so glad I found you guys!
Lex is a rocker at heart an would have fit in great during its heyday in the 80's .Keep on rocking it 🤘🇨🇦🤘
Let's not forget Michael Anthony. Drop Dead, In The Pocket. Steady. Perfect bass!
I stopped at the record store before we went to the party. This CD was played most of the night, lol. RIP Eddie Van Halen
My favorite Van Halen song too.
I saw Van Halen open for Black Sabbath in 1978 in Philly and believe me, it was everything you think it was.
I remember being a kid first learning to play guitar when I saw this performance. I immediately went out to the garage and got my dads power drill. His reaction was exactly the same as y'alls. It was the first time my dad was truly impressed with the sounds coming out of my room. Everyone else HATED it lol. The pickups in an electric guitar will amplify the sound of the drill, and if it's an already distorted signal it's even more gnarly. Brings back memories. Never found a use for it, though. The moment you try you're just reminding everyone that you're NOT Eddie Van Halen.
Seen Them A Hundred Times!!!!I Was In Love With Ed & His Playing & Story He Will Forever Be The GOAT! The Drilllllll! Also Seen Bon Jovi Was In Dead Or Alive Video ( It Was Clips From Concerts No You Can’t See Me..Was 18!😂) Seen Aerosmith 7 Times As Well But Nothing Beats Van Halen ( Especially With Sammy!!) In Concert ! Best Van Halen Concert I’ve Ever Seen …Live Without A Net World Tour!!! Damn I Miss Ed
you cant go wrong wiyth Van Halen, and you guys still have alot more of their music to go thru. they have so so so many bangers its hard to know where to go next
This is maybe my favorite Van Halen song.
One of their very best, that bass though...
8:45: "Ok Ok..." what more can I say? Love your reaction!
Van Halen is my all time Favorite!!!
You should review the entire album that Poundcake is on ( For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge)!!!
The official promo video for this is awesome as well!!!
The drill was cool, but how easily he transitioned from the drill to regular, well as regular as he got, guitar is what is amazing. Smooth! Thanks for sharing! You've helped me find my smile again!!
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is one of my favorite albums of all time, this was the first song. This had some of the best later VH songs IMO, and admitting I'm biased to Sammy's era. But still love all VH
In this episode of Brad & Lex, The upbeat rhythm gives an understanding to both participants to this tempo seemingly simultaneously as Brad enjoys a choppy but satisfied "side to side sway" while Lex broadcasts a shoulder involved "rock bop".
Having said that they seem like polar opposites in that Lex is 110% ready to rock while Brad kind of walks around with his shit hanging at 6 o'clock saying "yeah, whateva" LMAO
Van Halen my favorite
Van Halen is the Top Dogs of American Rock n Roll!
In all of their videos, I find myself only listening to the song cause my eyes are glued to Lex.
I’m with Brad on the injected😂😂
“Home grown and down home…. yea that’s my woman.” I always loved that.
If you want to see what a Van Halen concert was like, check out "Van Halen - Best of Both Worlds (OFFICIAL VIDEO)". There is a 9 minute version that shows you the crazy stuff they did on stage.
Hey! Brad actually LIKED that! I could see it all over his face! Smiled all the way through it! I was worried about Brad there for a minute! Lol He is starting to come around a bit! I love it. I love seeing this!
I've been requesting this one for awhile
Brad and Lex. You talk about wanting to go to a Van Halen concert. You need to react to "5150", "Best of Both Worlds", and "There's only One Way to Rock" from the Live Without a Net show. You will be blown away at the energy of the show.
What I like about Sammy is he makes singing look so easy and fun, and he’s always having a good time.
You may have noticed by now the two singers of VH. The original being David Lee Roth “the personality “ and then Sammy Hagar “the voice “. You also know of The 19 year old Sammy in Montrose.
Prob one of my fav VH tunes. RIP Eddie Van Halen..
I'd love see your reaction to Van Halen's Mean Street. Eddie's intro and solo is some of his best work. It's my favorite Van Halen song.
I miss you...my friend Edward Van Halen.
Love it. You two definitely have beautiful souls.
