Of course that system was a huge advantage, but their weapons are also stronger in general and can recharge and fire faster (based on what I saw on screen). I also imagine they can fire from longer range whereas others would have to come super close to manually targeting, but they`re doomed to that moment.
@@descendinguniverse In sheer destructive capability, Earth weapons were actually pretty on par with Minbari vessels, it was the inability to lock on that hurt them. Assuming that Omega's could lock on, the Sharlins would be more maneuverable due to not needing rotational sections. By the time we get Warlocks, they actually outclass the Sharlins.
@@seandlax9 I`ve seen even Hyperion managed to do a certain damage to Sharlin at close distance, true. Although I`m not sure if the firepower was equal. Sharlin`s beam weapons should be more powerful than Nova weapons. But I would totally want to see Omega engaging Sharlin. Agree about Warlock. I actually could never understand why Centauri even thought of declaring war to EA, when Minbari are their close friends since then. Or did they all die like Asgards from Stargate? Something I`m missing
As clean as the cut is the parts with dialog helps build the tension and the feeling of loss when the Churchill rams another ship as a last act of Valor.
This was the best "war" episode of Babylon 5. Not only did it have a great battle sequence, it also had fantastic personal scenes from the characters. IIRC, this episode was the most expensive one to make in the series and garnered them an award. An Emmy, I think.
Agreed. There was so much dramatic presentation in the personal scenes. From Sheridan talking to his father just before the battle to Ivanova's impassioned speech as to why she had to join the Starfury squadrons. Great stuff.

I read a novelization version of this episode a long time ago and it stated that every Narn that fell got the rest of B5's troops a meter closer to the Marines.

Many Minbari ships were destroyed in the war. Other then the Lexington, none of the attacking Earth ships survived. 20,000 humans were at the battle of the line. 200 survived. The difference between these 200 survivors and the Lexington vs Drala Fi is that they killed the Drala Fi. None of the attacking Minbari ships at the Line were destroyed.
Their Identification Friend or Foe systems must have been working really well! Also, love the detail that the Star fury engines don't light up until they have cleared the launch bay.
the reason why the graphics are still great is because their were to only be 6 major battles in the whole series. B5 vs raiders season 1, B5 vs EA, Sector 87 and Coriana 6 from the shadow wars, Proxmia 3 and the battle for Earth.

damn, i always have chills when the heavy pulse cannons of those two orion cruisers fire their volleys. there you get a feel on how powerful the EA ships got. still not enough to take on the minbari, but still. you definitly can se the development in comparison to the older ships from back in the days.
Interesting observation: Agrippa and Roanoak are accompanied by 2 Hyperion class heavy cruisers but they do nothing and magically disappear when the battle begins. What happened to them. Did they forget about the ships when they were making the scenes for the battle?
Prob when they saw the Omega destroyers get wrecked knew it would be suicide and maybe pulled back till reinforcements arrived and left when the Minbari come and make it clear that there no longer welcome
It's funny how in these later engagements the old Hyperion destroyers are not even worth a mention. Just a quick "me too!" shot. All the focus is on the Omegas.

ok, i know you only include the VFX parts in your clips.... but its almost painful you didnt include the dialog between Deleen and the EAF Commander... its SUCH a great moment, even if you just had the voices of the conversation overlaid behind the VFX

When Agrippa blew out the ship appeared to be mostly intact. Would’ve been nice or awesome to see a salvage team board her and repair it or at least salvage what they could to use on the other ships, not to mention an awesome opportunity to have a sad moment when the B5 crew sees the horror a civil war has by seeing friends or colleagues dead. Oh well, guess I’ll have to hope someone does some amateur cgi or fan film.
Extra sets that need to be made and more people who need to paid as dead bodies etc. It is a nice idea and may possibly have been considered but the cost would have been way too high

Has anyone calculated the equivalent defensive and offensive firepower of the space station? Does it have the same or more firepower than one destroyer and or heavy cruiser? Or does it have a defense grid comparable to or better than the same? I suspect the station (after refit) has the firepower of 1.5 destroyers (fighter compliment] included) and one heavy cruiser. With the defensive grid of two destroyers, only if the fighter compliment is at least >75%. Once the fighter compliment is

Omega Class destroyers can actually lock on to Sharlin class Warcruisers. They developed a sensor package that can burn through the Minbari Stealth systems. The Minbari would still either do heavy damage or destroy them though.
That would be an act of war. They came in guns cold for a reason. That way the Earth alliance ships would have to be willing to start another war with the Minbari. Which of course they weren't stupid enough to do, orders or no orders.

Even then, it wouldn't do them any good if they would be obliterated in the opening volley from the Sharlins! If those Minbari war cruisers had wanted to get serious even the Omega destroyer would find they were a serious fight individually. A pair of them with a white star to perform slashing attacks? Well 2 omegas vs 1 Sharlin? Maybe it would be a fair fight. But 2? Earthforce knew they were seriously outgunned and made the intelligent choice to leave while they were still flying

When I was a kid in school, this CGI was the shit. Now, I see they re-used alot of CGI scenes. An the TV port quality is...pretty shit...but thats to be expected.

they aren't laser! heavy paricle beams Laser - is photons, heavy Particle beams - ions of heavy particles. And rest was pulse cannons or missles.

I like these two types together. Other races mostly have just one type of battleship. But it makes sense to have many designs for different roles.

When I was a kid in school, this CGI was the shit. Now, I see they re-used alot of CGI scenes. An the TV port quality is...pretty shit...but thats to be expected.
