Ah, yes. The Minibar War. I always found it funny how personally the Minbari took Sheridan destroying one of their ships. They mopped the floor with the humans everywhere else, but their one defeat deserved decades of anger against the guy who pulled it off? Did they forget it was a war?
That's the whole point. It was a failure on both sides, not just "humans being primitive savages". Minbari scanners messed with human ships - act of aggression, because it was basically jamming, even if unintentional(btw, Mindari never studied the possibility of their scanner affecting ships this way?). Open weapon ports - sign of aggression for every species in galaxy aside from Minbari. They didn't turn their weapon system on? How other side supposed to know this, especially if it is lees technically developed (and like 90% of other species are LESS developed than Minbari) and jammed by Minbari scanners. Minbari were arrogant and with superiority complex. This is why they acted the way they did. And, btw, why someone would send their most important vessel to check on unknown military ships?
@@madzaisathe Valen'tha wasn't checking out unknown ships, she was on a secret reconnaissance mission to Za'hadum to check out recent Shadow activity when the Earth force expedition was detected
Able. They were angry not because the Minibari War Cruisers suffered a defeat, but because they lost their greatest War Cruiser and Captain in what was a "trap" even though the Black Star was using trap tactics itself.
To be more precise Black Star had the best of the best and children of the council and influential Minbari. So losing Black Star was a lot more emotional. So entire future generation of the council got killed leaving. The entire Minbari race is declining with a lower and lower birth rate.
Excellent video that I just loved to watch. The Minbari talked about the defeat of Black Star as the act of dishonor, cowardice. But the Minbari didn't fight a fair fight themselves. They merely slaughtered a weaker enemy that couldn't match their technological superiority. There is no honor in beating a much weaker opponent. However, the humanity learned an important lesson here, too. Don't be too cocky or it'll cost you.
B5 was one of the greatest epic science fiction programs ever. The storyline was basically a full 5 years long. Some episodes stood alone, but overall, everything fit togther. I don't think anyone could make another series like this one.
There were multiple story lines and there was at least a little something pushing a story line forward in every episode. Sometimes it was a 'blink and you'll miss it' moment. JMS had so much going that he actually dropped a few threads so he could keep everything moving.
In case any of the B5 fans on this page were unaware of it. We just had a Brand New Animated B5 movie released on August 14th. A project led by JMS himself and including the voice talents of the surviving cast members plus a few voice actors. A 30th Anniversary Tribute. Called Babylon 5: The Road Home.

When the aliens beat you in every single battle (except one), they bypass mars to go straight for Earth, then surrender their entire fleet, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, you know something is wrong. Sinclair == Valen. Greatest sci-fi story arc ever!
I wonder if Sheridan had been originally selected because he would override Jankowski if Jankowski proceeded to screw up. Unfortunately Sheridan bowed out and EarthForce had to select someone else.
@@kimnice Political connections? Jankowski was cleared of the Omega Incident, and perhaps they were hoping Sheridan would be high ranking enough to overrule Jankowski. G'ka and Londo Molari(Who was so much like my Grandfather lol) had some of the most unique combined storylines I've seen... Imagine what you could do with that storyline combined with modern film techniques and FX... It could be MINDBLOWING...😅
Loved the video. It's nice to see B5 get some love. I wonder if you have ever thought about doing videos for the Battletech Universe? If not, look into it. It might peak your interest :)
Beautiful video. But just one note--Koplann is the one who said "whether they fight or nor they know they will die anyway, so is this bravery or simple desperation?" Morann is the one who asked Delenn to cast the deciding vote to either pursue the Promotheus or to hold back (wherein Delenn, holding Dukhat's body, screamed "They deserve no mercy. Follow them to their bases and kill them all! All of them! No mercy!")
I know this story well, because I am a huge fan of the Babylon 5 series and movies! Even though, I thought this was a great retelling of the movie it is based off of. Great job, Mac!
The fundamental flaw of the lore was that an advanced, old race would fail to see the probability of misunderstanding arising from 'weapons drawn' being a greeting.
Haha... look at our own glorious history. You'd be surprised at the misunderstandings and stupidity that led to war. Technology advance does not equate to social enlightenment. B5 addresses this with the Minbari social hierarchy being constantly at odds.
Wow Ive seen this story lot and lots of times but this on of the first times ive see a new way of seeing and hearing told this way very nice i think i will subscribe and keep y eye out for more :) GJ
One of the most characteristic and apt characteristics of B5 is humanity's self-destructive arrogance which caused them not only to completely misjudge their position among the many galactic powers, but also to be plagued by civil war, internal conflicts such as secret organizations that were sometimes extremely self-defeating. In the end, humanity was bombed back to the Stone Age as the utter humiliation - it would take them millennia to return to the stars, more mature and wiser. The humanity in B5 was its own worst enemy. Londo Mollari was very apt when he pointed out people's arrogance and stupidity in one and the same package. The galaxy was not a merciful place for those who did not realize where they really stood in the hierarchy among the powers. In short; humans were a shameful upstart who ended up squandering their gains, their triumphs and their achievements because they were childish and self-absorbed. "Everyone" turned away from humanity - with a solitary exception, the rangers. The rangers managed to help the remnants of humanity, but not before they had reshaped it and stripped away its worst traits. It took them millennia, but the result was that humanity would take its place as one of the greatest civilizations in the history of the galaxy. That was what Straczynski had done, he did not create a humanity-centric reality as seen with Star Trek, but a story about the galaxy in one of the most important periods - which was communicated to the viewers through a non-human, Londo Mollari. Humanity came pretty far down there - the civil war showed their worst tendencies and that they are not to be trusted, so that only remarkable individuals who came to Babylon 5 station would be the exception. The earth-minbar war was just one episode in a sad story about humanity's foolishness and childishness that ended with them having to start all over again. Everything they had achieved ended up in nothing, so that Sinclair and Sheridan who chose to break with them for the sake of the galaxy with thousands of different civilizations, would remain as immortal legends for time immemorial. They were pearls pulled out of a pigpen.
Wow you did a great job with this video. Your 3D and 2D graphics are great. And it's a worthwhile tale of arrogance and biting off more than you can chew. Silly outfits and dated CG aside, Babylon 5 had great writing and acting. Londo's scene with the ambassador is terrific. It therefore stands head and shoulders above much of the modern schlock Hollywood currently excretes.
Star trek was a show with one episode after another. If you missed one - no problem, but the first sci fi show with an evolving story was Babylon 5. If you missed a show, there was a gap in information, what had happened in the last show.
To those watching this and learning about this great show for the first time, I would point out that during the instance when the narrator makes a joke about “Gil Dukhat…I mean Dukhat” that Babylon 5 predated Star Trek Deep Space Nine, that J. Michael Strazynski actually pitched the show to paramount, who declined, and then promptly stole several ideas and made DS9. This intellectual theft is well documented. Imagine if George Lucas pitched Star Wars to a studio. They decline. Then make their own movie called “Nova Battles” about a young farm boy named Steve Airrunner, and his cocky mercenary friend Dan Lone, fighting against the evil Vader. Yeah, they just use the same name, Vader. It’s about that blatant.
Wow, this was excellent. While, I normally prefer my space science fiction TV shows to be "stand-alone" episodes each. Babylon 5, was an outstanding exception and ts multi-season story was told to perfection (smile...smile).
Thank you for reminding me of my favorite series. I can only hope that they will fail to make a remake and leave one of the last not horribly mangeled franchises with new versions for modern audience alone.
I think the Earth-Minbari War shows that the Minbari are the most dangerous race in the galaxy. The Shadows may have been violent and dangerous too, but at least they had good intentions.
Very well made! EA ships could kick their butts if it wasn't for the short range weapons, and no counter to Minbari stealth. The Nova class could rip a Sharlin to shreds if it could get close enough. Range was a major factor in this war.
It makes sense. Why risk the dangers of close combat when you can annihilate everything with long-range beam wepons? It's a lesson EA learned when they developed the Warlock Cruiser.
Given it was set in the 1990s, everything seemed to reflect the Wars in Yugoslavia-especially how everyone will stab everyone in the back when the time is right.

I just dropped a link for this in the Babylon 5, FB group. Great doc! In the Beginning always gave me the most feelings of all the B5 movies.
Finally someone made a joke about Dukat being the leader of the Minbari
Fantastic high quality content. You deserve more eyes on this!
Simply one of the finest sci-fi shows ever made and sadly underrated in its time .Glad to see it finally getting the praise it truly deserves .
This is absolutely fantastic. So well produced and narrated. Beloved B5 fan from day one and it brought so many memories back. Thank you ! :D
Excellent summary. _In the Beginning_ was a fantastic special.
When the aliens beat you in every single battle (except one), they bypass mars to go straight for Earth, then surrender their entire fleet, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, you know something is wrong.
Sinclair == Valen.
Greatest sci-fi story arc ever!
It is criminal that more folks that are B5 fans, haven’t seems this! Love it! Great quality, graphics and voiceover.
“After the Omega Incident…” “The military tribunal cleared Jankowski of all charges.” Brilliant Human Resources guys.
I wonder if Sheridan had been originally selected because he would override Jankowski if Jankowski proceeded to screw up. Unfortunately Sheridan bowed out and EarthForce had to select someone else.
@@toddkes5890
Why Jankowski was chosen for that mission if they knew he was really bad choice for that exact mission?
@@kimnice Political connections? Jankowski was cleared of the Omega Incident, and perhaps they were hoping Sheridan would be high ranking enough to overrule Jankowski.
But without Sheridan they only had the original ship Captain who didn't have enough confidence to overrule Jankowski, and things kinda went bad.
Seems like ive waited a lifetime for this specific story ,Thank You
This is the best telling of the war other than the show itself that I've ever heard. Great job!!!
This is.. Wow... I love the CGI and the storytelling... Makes me want to watch my B5 series all over again... Hoping there are more videos like this...
Brilliant brilliant storytelling...
Really enjoyed listening to the to this and the voice is definitely easy to listen to.
Thankyou for recapping one if the greatest sci fi
B5 was one of the best sci-fi shows in the 90's. One reason was you didn't have to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy it. If you are into Drama, mystery and intrigue then you would love this show.
I love this series ... the story telling is epic ... well done telling the story of the Earth Minbari War ... i miss this show
Another banger very much worth the wait. Babylon 5 is one of my favourite series from my childhood so it's awesome seeing a video about it.
Yooo your quality is so good, loved the inserts of the characters. Hard to tell any B5 story without the great characters
It is amazing that only decades after this devastating defeat, the people are re-establishing not only their army, but also their authority and influence among the other races!
This was so awesome. Finally I get the whole story🎉 thank you so much
Love the channel. Best efforts are seen. Great way to experience lore! Cinematic and Ken Burns-esque.
You did an AMAZING JOB on the video.
I've watched this story from beginning to end at least 5 times. You gave a fantastic overview of this. I can only conclude that you love this as much as I do. Have a sub and my gratitude Sir.
I have always seen Babylon 5 as a sci-fi adaptation of Tolkien's works. And that just makes it amazing!
I can’t believe it has taken me this long to find your channel. I’ve binged most of your playlists the past couple of days and can’t wait to see what else you produce: you cover many of my favorite IPs from my middle school through college years (Wing Commander, Star Siege, Homeworld, and B5)! Thank you for your work and I will definitely support your channel on Patreon or whichever other preferred platform you have.
Great video,I absolutely love B.5., in my humble opinion probably the best Sci fi show in its Space combat and ship designs...
And the characters were brilliantly portrayed by a magnificent cast...
G'ka and Londo Molari(Who was so much like my Grandfather lol) had some of the most unique combined storylines I've seen...
Imagine what you could do with that storyline combined with modern film techniques and FX...
It could be MINDBLOWING...😅
Man, this was great! I'm going to rewatch this series again! Thanks 👍🏽
Been a while since you uploaded Mac and as soon as I Saw Babylon 5 I was hooked 😊
Same. He does shorts sometimes. I got hooked when he did the amazing homeworld videos.
Yeah, it's really easy for me to get lost in ~*The Process*~
@@MacsLore
Mac I hope you you'll in the future cover the epicness of the civil war between Sheridans forces and Clarks forces?
😊

Babylon 5 Is one of the Great sci fi shows I love
Loved the video. It's nice to see B5 get some love. I wonder if you have ever thought about doing videos for the Battletech Universe? If not, look into it. It might peak your interest :)
I always have a like put aside waiting to be used for great B5 content, thank you so much!
Amazing video! Babylon 5 is one of my favorite sci-fi shows!
Beautiful video. But just one note--Koplann is the one who said "whether they fight or nor they know they will die anyway, so is this bravery or simple desperation?"
Morann is the one who asked Delenn to cast the deciding vote to either pursue the Promotheus or to hold back (wherein Delenn, holding Dukhat's body, screamed "They deserve no mercy. Follow them to their bases and kill them all! All of them! No mercy!")
I know this story well, because I am a huge fan of the Babylon 5 series and movies! Even though, I thought this was a great retelling of the movie it is based off of. Great job, Mac!
I can honestly say I enjoyed listening to every moment of this video.....
B5 addresses this with the Minbari social hierarchy being constantly at odds.
excelent video again all the old memories that come back as i watched this video thx for making and uploading it.
I swear the writer must have been looking at his minibar while writing this and went 'mmmm what name can I give it."
Awesome, video of a great TV show. Thanks for making it.
A beautiful tribute to the B5 lore. I see Stephen Furst is named twice in the memory and tribute ending.
Yeah, unfortunately it was a mistake that I realized was in there and was far too late for me to pull the video and do a quick reupload.
Mate just found this channel, great content, sensational work on these videos. Thank you all your hard work.
I love this, I really hope you do more B5 videos, this is amazing.
The images and art are exquisite, great narrative as well, a love letter to the fans.
Also 6:09, "EULA'S REVENGE", fascinating.
Excellent Mac!
Wow Ive seen this story lot and lots of times but this on of the first times ive see a new way of seeing and hearing told this way very nice i think i will subscribe and keep y eye out for more :) GJ
WELL DONE !!!!! SO MUCH BABYLON 5 IN LESS THAN A MONTH... SOOOO HAPPY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My absolute favourite sci-fi series.
Another high quality video, very enjoyable
Outstanding work!
Awesome video...please keep up the good work :)
Man this show was fantastic, B5 and DS9 loved them both
Great video and visuals. Look forward to seeing where you take the channel. +1 subscriber.
Star trek was a show with one episode after another. If you missed one - no problem, but the first sci fi show with an evolving story was Babylon 5. If you missed a show, there was a gap in information, what had happened in the last show.
Nice job. Good tone speed and all that
Very well done. I really enjoyed this.
A well made and narrated video. Very well done.
Gul Dukat errr Dukhat... Had me rolling😂
Thank you for reminding me of my favorite series.
I can only hope that they will fail to make a remake and leave one of the last not horribly mangeled
franchises with new versions for modern audience alone.
One of the best written sci fi series in my opinion. I loved watching this show, one of the best tv series in the 1990s.
And "Minbari stealth" is probably something they get from Vorlons...
I cannot help watching this series and see how much it predicted in regards to ego and politics today.
Given it was set in the 1990s, everything seemed to reflect the Wars in Yugoslavia-especially how everyone will stab everyone in the back when the time is right.
