    Great video, may want to add that you should drain tranny or be ready to catch oil when you pull the axle out. I got a surprise when I pulled my axle...lol!

      Thanks! I replaced that bushing after this video, didn't post a video of it. The other side still needs to be done :|

    The driver's side I did needed a slide hammer to remove it. The passenger's side doesn't? Is it bc the carrier bearing clamp holds the axle in?

    Thanks man, one handed well done.. I will be doing this shortly, my 2005 cooper S is shuddering like a mofo.. Will do wheel bearings and some other work while I have it up on stands.

      Thanks man, haha I always end up doing these things one handed when I can just set up a tripod....I have a bearing video and some other front end videos too, I hope your job goes as smooth as possible!

    great vid.. question.. i have an 04 S manual... i am replacing the right front strut at the moment.. noticed the inner axle knuckle was very loose and came out of place.. it wont realign. so i should just replace the axle...wondering if i still need to remove the lower ball joint nut or do you think i can remove the axle with the strut assembly out.. seems like there would be enough room to wiggle the axle out..

    Hi, nice video. When you mention shuddering, is that something like rubbing/grinding noise? I have something similar and I can't pinpoint it. Maybe this is the problem that I'm having. The noise started as soon as I accelerate, even when I'm cruising in neutral I can hear it. It get louder when I accelerate.

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  8 років тому +1

      +Simon Quest That grinding and getting louder during acceleration might be a bad bearing. I have a bearing replacement video. Also if your tires have very low tread, make sure they aren't feathered on the inside; a grinding sound will come from that as well. The shuddering was more like a vibration as if a tire was oval.

      Thank you for your reply. I ordered a new hub bearing and going to see if that will fix my problem. I swapped the two front wheels and the noise still there, so it must be something with the hub bearing like your said. I checked your hub bearing replacement. You made it looked simple enough. Thanks! And Subscribed! :)

      Simon Quest You're welcome and thank you! Are you able to hear which side the noise is coming from?

    hmm interesting.. maybe you'll have an idea I've a RH drive mini s clubman & I've already changed both LH-side wheel bearings as I was getting a grinding sound (doing 1 didn't cure it) then rotating the wheels by hand I found the remaining bearing needed attention etc
    anyway after replacing them both I'm still getting a whirring sound, again this sounds like its coming from the LH-side still could this be the drive shaft requiring replacement aswell. or could it be the driver-side (RH-side) with the carrier bearing.. are you aware of any symptoms or have any clue to help pin point my issue!?!

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  5 років тому +1

      What kind of tires do you have? Run flats with low tread make a lot of noise. It could also be either of the things you said,,,bearing or driveshaft. Check the shaft for ripped boots or play, the shaft between it's two ends can slide side to side but should not wiggle or turn by itself without turning with the rest of the drive line. Check the carrier bearing for play. Since the noise is coming from the left I would check the shaft. Might also check the rear bearings....sounds from the back can sound like they're coming from the front because the car is so damn small.

      @@aDIYCarGuy Hi no its got normal sport tyres fitted, I've replaced the passenger side (LH UK car) cv axel yesterday. the driver-side was replaced about 5 days ago now.. however when I jacked the car up I noticed fluid dripping from that side seal (there wasn't a leak prior to replacing it) also noticed a gap of about 1cm between the dust cover & the gearbox housing, when I fitted it it slotted straight in no issues all the way to the plastic cover.. however like you mentioned the hardest part of the job was the carrier bearing, I've a R55 08 model & its a lot worse, 2 bolts however 1 of these bolts you've literally no space to work with to find the bolt hole & then to tighten it etc so I think my attention slipped when I struggled to fit the carrier bearing bolts & failed to recheck overall fitment etc
      I've not had chance yet to check the rear wheel bearings yet (1 is only afew months old now) so yes, as you mentioned the sound could also be a bad bearing aswell etc (so except for this new issue I've not had chance to test if the issue is resolved by the shafts etc

    That is the drivers side not the passenger side good video shame its not the side i wanted to see a video of.

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 років тому +2

      I am in the US so it's the passenger side. It's the same process for the other but there's no carrier bearing to unbolt, you just undo the hub like I did in this video, then pry the axle out of the transmission with a screwdriver.
